Oh! I've heard of the Earthsea trilogy! My friend raved to me about them, but I've yet to pick them up. Hmm, now I must read them, if a famed author claims them interesting. Thanks for the suggestion! ^^

~Oh, and if you have the time, what originally got you interested in writing?

GAIA Michael Scott
I think the simplest answer would be...that I was (and still am when I get a spare moment!) an avid reader..when you read many different authors and in a variety of styles, your own ideas and stories start to crop up in your mind..eventually you decide to commit the ideas to paper (or computer!) and then it just grows from there.

Oh, that's really interesting, because I feel that that's exactly why I plan on writing! ^^ I've read a lot, *and I'm only 18*, but I feel that when I read I'm taken to a whole new world with fantastic adventures. I'm going to college this fall, and plan on majoring in either journalism or creative writing. Either way, I want to pursue a career in the written language.

~What would, in your opinion, be the best route to follow if wanting to pursue a career in writing?
~Did you go to college, and if so, what did you major in?

*Thank you for answering, by the way.*

I am not so great at writing the beginning of a story, any hints on how I should? I'm trying to write it on 12 kids, 6 good, 6 bad, each gaining a mask of a certain king, giving them unusual powers. Well, messing with the idea of it, so as before:
Got any hints on the first few paragraph/pages of a book?

I would say..start with the end so that you know where you're heading for, then go back and decide who they are, and how they will act or think..then start with the beginning! But, as I have said before, every writer works differently, so if another method works for you then go with that!
hmm... it seems to be going a lot slower today...

lets see...

actually, I think I'm pretty satisfied with the answers, so I'm all out of questions.

Well thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit us here on Gaia! mrgreen

Now I guess... I'm going to go ahead and keep lurking around in case someone asks a really good question

Ah, I don't know if you've already answered this before... probably have... but what are your thoughts on Alchemy as a science/philosophy/metaphysical study?
mr. scott! big fan of the series. smile
okay. question. in your opinion, how much worth does the fantasy genre hold? i'm a sci-fi/fantasy writer, and i've been having a TOUGH time getting anything looked at. it there promise in the future?

Thanks, I'll try that method biggrin My grandma said one way of starting is to start with the middle of the book, and stop and what might be a climax to get the reader going then show how it happened. Do you think that that might work?

I do that but with a bit of a twist.
I make my characters first, then i make the end, then i start the beginning. (this next part i do not suggest) after that i just kinda go with out a plan and let it flow. and if i need editing i turn to my friend Mizu-chan.

I think it's fascinating, given what they learned at the time about the behaviour of different substances..and without all the fancy equipment that science has to offer in our modern world!

Always persevere, keep looking at your work to see if you can see ways to improve it..remember even the likes of Ms Rowling herself didn't get published immediately! So don't give up!

I think you should try a variety of methods and find the one that works the very best for you, you'll soon know when you have found the one that's right for you!
