Anyone in the mood to discuss the kinky rip off of Twilight? I found a rather thought provoking letter to the editor in an old issue of Entertainment Weekly.
Quote:
I've been trying to get a novel with original content published for nearly three years. Clearly I'm going about it all wrong. Therefore I'm going to take Gone with the Wind change some names, add some mad sex scenes, and call it Fifty Maids in Grey. Please alert the publishing industry in Hollywood.

A quick google search, and if I found the right person then it sounds like this person has some experience with magazine writing, which doesn't hurt.

Mean while, Meyer doesn't seem to be taking any action against Fifty Shades of Grey Porn , which is getting a movie.

So what do you think this means for original fiction? Will Fifty Shades of Grey Porn make original fiction something of the past, create an opening for a new genre (fan fiction rip offs), or just be a fad? I'm afraid it could be the second.

The sad part is, said movie is in the works from Universal. The same studio that made movies like Dracula and Frankenstein. As a fan of those movies, this betrayal stings.

How...how...IS THATPOS GETTING A MOVIE DEAL?!

Well, when Dark Shadows the movie comes out next week, maybe it won't be too bad. Then again, I don't know anything anymore. *cries*

@Mage: If it's the second option, then Hollywood really has no creativity WHATSOEVER!

"We should do a vampire movie. Like a real vampire movie. Where the vampire actually looks like a vampire." Thus says Johnny Depp, and I have to agree with him. One of my favorite aspects of the movie visually is the fact that Barnabas is the first vampire in a long ******** time who actually looks like one.

Watch the whole featurette on his appearance here.

He does, and he does it very well. I can't wait to see it next week! Despite the comedy that's played into it, I hope it's just as dark and gruesome as they say it's gonna be.

And normally, you don't get a lot of that nowadays, unless you want to be somewhat original. I wonder what made them decide on doing Dark Shadows. :/

They were both mega fans as kids, and Depp negotiated the purchase of the film rights before Dan Curtis died (Curtis wanted Depp to play him in a film). Depp bought the rights and talked to Burton about it, and here we are.

And those aren't the only rights he bought from the Curtis estate. Let's not forget, there's also Kolchack in the works, with Depp producing that like he did DS, and set to star. But that one's got Edgar Wright attached instead, and I have faith in him. He's proven his genre cred to me already.

WHAT?! WHHHHYYYYYYYY?!?! WHY IS IT GETTING A MOVIE?! *reads article*

EDIT: Bah, it's information on the author. She sounds likable enough, but knowing that she ripped off of another book. Can I have more information on the book? All I know is that it's a blatant copy of Twilight.
@Duet
The movie part is killing me. I mean really, you shouldn't reward someone for publishing her fan porn fiction, even if it will get you a lot of money.

@Belethiel
The article is about the person who said maybe she should make a porno fan fic of Gone with the Wind instead of trying to get her original fiction published. Sorry I didn't make that clear. I scanned her site and couldn't find much about the book other than she'd like an agent for it.

Unless you're talking about the author of Fifty Shades of Porn Grey, in which case I know even less.

I love Kolchack! I can't wait to see that movie be released! Isn't Johnny playing him? I don't know if that's right. I heard something a long time ago that he was going to be Carl Kolchack.

@Mage: ........I have no words to describe how much I'm hating Hollywood right now for that.

I was curious (damn you, curiosity) and I saw on MTV's lovely little article that there's already a huge consideration for some actors, like Ryan Gosling or poor Robert Patterson (going to be type-casted as Edward for an eternity, I swear), to play Creep-a-zoid Grey.

@Fifty Shades Movie Deal:

You do realize that this s**t won't see the light of day because trying to dull down that many sex scenes will make a screenwriter quit right there. Plus, some male actors aren't trying to lose their female following by portraying a misogynistic, piece of s**t human being disguised as a sexy, confident dom.
@Fifty Shades of Porn Grey Movie Deal
True, it sounds like NC17 waiting to happen. Although given this thing has a cult following for who knows why, the male actor will gain as many fans as he loses. I think when I was skimming articles about this it mentioned that Pattinson and Stewart liked the idea. If they both get cast, why don't they rename it Twilight: Porn addition
