Now then...sigh...Fifty Shades of Grey.

Good lord, that pile of s**t. I read the first fifty pages of the first book and found that my little lady is not excited by corporate assholes. stare

Oh...wow...you read the first fifty pages, I could barely get through an article about it in the Entertainment Weekly. How do you make a trilogy out of a Twilight porn fic? No...I don't want to know. I kinda hope Meyers beats these guys in court. I support fan fiction, but from the point of view of an aspiring author, changing the names of characters that belong to someone else so your fic can be published is very wrong. This guys mooching off of someone else for just about everything but plot.

Oh? I heard rumors that Meyer might be taking E.L. James to court about this and for once, I support this effort. I mean, there are billions of people who are waiting for the big break to have their work recognized and loved by people and this woman got it just by taking out names and changing them so she won't get sued by the creator? Good lord, that pile of s**t. I read the first fifty pages of the first book and found that my little lady is not excited by corporate assholes. stare

Speaking of corporate assholes, am I the only one who realizes the irony that in age of growing protest and anger toward corporate assholes, the biggest superheroes people are looking up to right now are Batman and Iron Man? Meanwhile Superman is still considered to be a flag-waving tool, even though he works for a living as a journalist who, presumably, would sympathize with the plight of the working man more than-

Okay, sorry, I was getting into another way-off-topic rant there for a second. Yeah, Fifty Shades of Grey sounds like a pile of s**t.

Even as a little girl, I hated Superman with a growing passion. =_=

But yeah, Fifty Shades of Grey was even laughable as porn. PORN now, a genre that where you can get away with having zero plot.

When I was much younger I didn't care much for Superman. However, Superman means a lot more to me now, and I realize not only the cultural significance of the character and the mythology around him, but I see the truth about Superman that people tend to ignore in favor of non-truths that have been perpetuated by the willfully ignorant. Such people suggest that he's too powerful (and he's not), too perfect (which he's not), a flag-waving government tool (which he's not), and so on. I find it incredibly ironic that in an age where corporate billionaires are demonized everywhere else, they are looked up to with characters like Batman. Batman, who in his last film was turned into a symbolized appraisal of the Bush administration, is worn on the T-shirts of anti-establishment hipsters all around while Superman - who has been attacked numerous times recently by bigoted super-conservative flag wavers for being a far more world-conscious figure concerned not with protecting the politicians who spend their afternoons stroking the egos of rich white corporate executives, but with defending the human rights of the downtrodden - is hated for being a propaganda-fueled figure he hasn't been since at least the 1980s, when every action hero had to be a pro-America anti-Soviet figure.

If you can't tell, I'm a Superman fan. I think the hate for the character in pop culture is, for the most part, unjustified. It's based on things that are either not true about the character anymore, or on things that were true about him when they were true about every superhero. The stereotypical negative image of Superman as it exists in pop culture today was created during an age where, for instance, Batman had a closet full of different colored costumes, one for every color in the rainbow. The propaganda-fueled stereotype about him was created in the 40s when every comic book hero was used as propaganda, encouraging kids to buy war-bonds. It doesn't take rocket science to figure out that's not true about superheroes anymore, but for some reason the stigma associated with that is still there when it comes to Superman.

...********, I went on my rant anyway. gonk

User Image

Wonderful rant, man. I don't have the strength to muster up a beauty of a rant like that!

Trust me, it could have gone on a lot longer. Sadly, us Superman fans are well accustomed to being defensive and having to explain why we're Superman fans and why the hate makes no sense.

Meanwhile, as people line up to unfairly hate on Superman...Fifty Shades of Grey...god damn...

As a woman, I did not want to jump in bed with types like Christian Grey, the corporate a*****e in Fifty Shades, just because I'm too defiant to obey and I would cut a b***h if they try to boss me around. Granted I'm 17 and a half years old so I haven't experienced being depraved to the point that I would read fodder like Fifty Shades. =_=

Indeed he was. It was his baby. He did the same thing James did, but with Dracula. And did not get away with it. It's just a happy coincidence that his illegal rip-off would turn out to be probably the scariest vampire movie ever.

That sucks. James is seriously the worst when it comes to telling about how Fifty Shades came from. Dumbass, do not tell ANYONE that this was originally a fanfic so when Meyer's case sees a judge, your a** will be charged with copyright infringement!

Maybe Meyer does have a brain cell after all. confused I'll support her doing that, but nothing else afterwards. :/

Yeah, Fifty Shades of Grey sounds more like kitty porn, if anything. I'm not interested in that. I'm more interested in how the plot works, or basically how the story works--NOT PORNOS!

Well, at least, the good folks at Goodreads (the readers) saw how disgusting this s**t was. biggrin
