an old book I read once upon a time

Have you ever had one of those moments when you remember reading a book as a kid and all of a sudden wish you could read it again, because it stuck with you that much?

Recently I have had several of those moments:
The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Frank... (something or other) reread it, loved it again, now I can't remember the name for the life of me. Two kids run away from home and decide to live at a museum in the middle of NYC. Fun read, got so much more out of it as an adult. It's funny when I go back and read some of the stuff that I read as a child I realize how many of them have deeper plots that I just didn't catch as a child.

Now I have a book in mind that I started to read when I was younger and never finished but wished I had...

[The Sycamore Lady]

The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Yup. I read that too and loved it.

And The Boxcar Children too. Man did I want to live in a boxcar as a kid.

Also Sideways Stories from Wayside School. The potato tattoo story always stuck with me after reading those. I really, really liked that one.

I read that one in fourth grade. I loved it. biggrin

I read the Claudi Journals series. Loved them and wishes I hadn't given them away.

The two that really stuck with me the most growing up, and I wish I still owned them because I'd love to read them again, were "Bridge to Terabithia" and "Catherine Called Birdy". The first stuck with me because it was a wonderful story of childhood but with a heartbreaking end, and the second is a hilarious (and at times brutally honest) book but quite educational as well, as it is the journal of a young girl growing up in the Middle Ages in Europe. I think I might try to find them now...
