Its about recognizing the civil rights movement, slavery, Jim Crow, racism, present day racism, as well as celebrating how far we have come as a people. There would be no need for a Black History Month if black history was taught in schools along with regular history and if black people weren't still being marginalized.

I suppose, he does have a point. Black history month is not really just about celebrating all the good things black people have done though. It's more along the lines of how a nation like africa, once enslaved by white people, rose up out of opression, and conquered slavery. It is not ignorant to say that caucasion people need a white history month either, because we broke away from the levied taxes from Britain and became our own country. That deserves some type of showmanship if you ask me.

I don't know what school you go to or went to but whenever black people are mentioned in a history class its normally a brief section on slavery, ElI Whitley having his name mentioned, Crispus Attucks having his name mentioned, and Martin Luther King being briefly talked about.

the school I went to taught it with history, they didnt make a big deal about it, the same way they dont make a big deal about the rest of history. Now, certain black people, such as Martin Luther, we spent a couple weeks on. The college I go to now, we spent two months on black history, while no one elses history lasted thirty minutes.
