I posted this in another thread but I think it actually needs to go here:

I remember going to the Smithsonian in high school and reading a story about how a Black woman was on a train going to a Christian prayer camp with her "mixed" Church in which had brought tickets for all the members for first class cart or whatever trains parts are called. The ticket guy made her and a few other Black move to very back of the train and went so far to say that the WHOLE train was for whites only unless the "Nergoes" worked for the company. NONE of the White christian members spoke up to do anything even though it was only members of the chruch in that whole area and the Black members had paid for their tickets. So WTF?

I found that to be such a gut wrenching story.

However, since that wasn't part my assignment and such I didn't take notes. I think I took a picture of it though but I probably didn't print out and now that camera is gone. Tsk such a lost moment. Anyway I also walked right into half a real slave ship and EWW even after all these years it was very foul and I swear I think it hunted. (Fun fact I got yelled at by one of the guards for getting that close neutral but I didn't see the line so...)

Another important moment was reading the Dear American series book Color me Dark which was set during the Chicago riots. It was the first time I found out that Blacks had screwed up families just like mines so I related to it. I know it sounds odd but yeah.

No, in all seriousness, there are some things that really opened my eyes.

Not so much anything to do with history, but my own personal experiences. And honestly it's not injustices. More like just... an obvious sign that something is still wrong.

I don't know if it's changed since I graduated, but back when I was in high school, I remember seeing groups of people. Like full on sections of people. Our cafeteria looked like it was segregated. A section for white people. A section for black people. A table of "asian people." It baffles me that children still end up grouping themselves up in such a way. But it happens. It really does.

And this is god awful. But just another thing to remind us that people are clearly still way ******** up.

Actually this forum is a good learning experience as you can clearly see how racially divided people still are and how totally disrespectful people can be. Coupled with the lack of education in diversity education as half the people on this forum don't have a clue about anything they are babbling about. And we wonder why we have these months? emotion_facepalm

Anyway yeah my school was pretty much the same though we did have some mixed groups but mainly those types of groups ate outside. (Of course this was only when the pipes didn't leak or other health hazards happened in the cafeteria/locker area) Yeah we didn't really have a cafeteria it was just one big open space with a library in the center. My high school design was really freaky. emotion_8c Anyhow, yeah youtube is another good place to see how truly humans can suck.

I came across this when reading a book about famous cannibals and cult killers. It's absolutely sickening.

The serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was about to murder 14 year old Konerak Sinthasomphone when the lad managed to escape, running naked through the street. He came across two black woman, cousins called Sandra Smith and Nicole Childress. They called the police and when they arrived the police completely ignored what the black women and asian boy had to say. Instead they took the word of the white Dahmer who claimed the lad was his 18 year old lover and he'd run off after a fight. So what did the police do? They escorted the boy back to Dahmer's house where he was murdered after they left.

The police showing racial preference sounds like something from the 50's but this happened in Milwaukee on the 27th of May 1991.
