Often are tales spun
by the most wicked,
cunning thieves
After the encounter with D and Mina, the blood demon had withdrawn to her own makeshift den to gather supplies. The sounds she had heard off in the distance were familiar; the massive trucks caused such a distinctive din it was difficult to forget. As she had mentioned to Mina, she had encountered the Templar before and judging upon those experiences, it was yet another dance upon the razor's edge as to whether they would heal the recuperating slayers or exterminate them for their clouded bloodlines.
In any event, Tala wasn't about to leave such matters to chance; she had invested too much into those slayers now to allow that. Searching through her few belongings quickly she clasped a small handful of bracelets onto each wrist, also looping a small bag filled with gems as a necklace in addition to a change of clothes. While they merely appeared as accessories, the heirlooms she had adorned were in truth designed to mask her demonic aura from even the most inquisitive seeker. The ones she constantly wore about her ankle helped her to hide when she desired to, but if she were to be dealing closely with Templar she would need far more.
The illusory magics would cause all those who looked upon her to see her as a human, though as a precaution she still tucked in her tail and covered her ears within a cap. Her 'punishment wounds' were thankfully disguised as well, and with a quick check in a small mirror she put the final touches into her new appearance. After a cursory glance around her rudimentary home she confirmed that she had everything she needed and quickly exited once again, replacing the protective seals to keep it hidden and safe.
She knew where D and Mina would be heading, and without the burden of company she managed to slip ahead of them. From concealed vantage points she listened in on what was occurring with the refugees; one of them in particular stood out from the others as he broke away from his quiet disposition to bring the rioting crowd to order. Making a note of him, she slunk back into the shadows to continue her discrete observations. While she could not see the Teacher as he gave his rousing speech, she couldn't help but roll her eyes in response.
At last she picked up some useful information however: it seemed the still-standing ruins of the city's mall was to be the destination for their new camp. Once again she darted ahead, arriving several minutes ahead of the migrating refugees. It was not time squandered though, she spent every second of it examining and memorizing the layout and surrounding area; one could never be too well informed about their surroundings after all, and if she were to mingle around Templar she would need to know how to make a quick getaway.
It wasn't difficult for her to blend into the crowds as they filtered in, merely emerging from a dark corner as the throngs passed by and joining them wordlessly. In the distance she could sense the slayers approaching and she made sure to be far enough along the crowds as to be indistinguishable to them. What eventually caught her eye again was the man in the black jacket she had noted before. It seemed crowds were not to his liking and he began to ascend the stairwell to the rooftop. After ensuring she wouldn't be recognized Tala followed him, the basis of several more plots beginning to form within her cunning mind.
She ascended quietly, simply observing the man as he watched the sunset for a few moments. Tala approached from behind him soundlessly, stopping to stand just next to the man. "It is sights like these that make me glad to be alive." she mentioned off-handedly, her gaze transfixed upon the plethora of colors the setting sun cast upon the sky. Before he could ask anything of her she spoke up again with a smile beginning to play across her lips. "I really should thank you for earlier, settling the crowd the way you did. It takes a rare individual to be able to inspire cooperation in moments such as those." For the first time she then looked up to meet his eyes, her own displaying a grateful shimmer as a lighthearted giggle followed her words. "For a second there I thought I was going to be trampled!"
And perhaps I am
one such trickster,
such tangled webs I weave
