Tala, the Blood Wolf

User ImageAfter the encounter with D and Mina, the blood demon had withdrawn to her own makeshift den to gather supplies. The sounds she had heard off in the distance were familiar; the massive trucks caused such a distinctive din it was difficult to forget. As she had mentioned to Mina, she had encountered the Templar before and judging upon those experiences, it was yet another dance upon the razor's edge as to whether they would heal the recuperating slayers or exterminate them for their clouded bloodlines.

In any event, Tala wasn't about to leave such matters to chance; she had invested too much into those slayers now to allow that. Searching through her few belongings quickly she clasped a small handful of bracelets onto each wrist, also looping a small bag filled with gems as a necklace in addition to a change of clothes. While they merely appeared as accessories, the heirlooms she had adorned were in truth designed to mask her demonic aura from even the most inquisitive seeker. The ones she constantly wore about her ankle helped her to hide when she desired to, but if she were to be dealing closely with Templar she would need far more.

The illusory magics would cause all those who looked upon her to see her as a human, though as a precaution she still tucked in her tail and covered her ears within a cap. Her 'punishment wounds' were thankfully disguised as well, and with a quick check in a small mirror she put the final touches into her new appearance. After a cursory glance around her rudimentary home she confirmed that she had everything she needed and quickly exited once again, replacing the protective seals to keep it hidden and safe.

She knew where D and Mina would be heading, and without the burden of company she managed to slip ahead of them. From concealed vantage points she listened in on what was occurring with the refugees; one of them in particular stood out from the others as he broke away from his quiet disposition to bring the rioting crowd to order. Making a note of him, she slunk back into the shadows to continue her discrete observations. While she could not see the Teacher as he gave his rousing speech, she couldn't help but roll her eyes in response.

At last she picked up some useful information however: it seemed the still-standing ruins of the city's mall was to be the destination for their new camp. Once again she darted ahead, arriving several minutes ahead of the migrating refugees. It was not time squandered though, she spent every second of it examining and memorizing the layout and surrounding area; one could never be too well informed about their surroundings after all, and if she were to mingle around Templar she would need to know how to make a quick getaway.

It wasn't difficult for her to blend into the crowds as they filtered in, merely emerging from a dark corner as the throngs passed by and joining them wordlessly. In the distance she could sense the slayers approaching and she made sure to be far enough along the crowds as to be indistinguishable to them. What eventually caught her eye again was the man in the black jacket she had noted before. It seemed crowds were not to his liking and he began to ascend the stairwell to the rooftop. After ensuring she wouldn't be recognized Tala followed him, the basis of several more plots beginning to form within her cunning mind.

She ascended quietly, simply observing the man as he watched the sunset for a few moments. Tala approached from behind him soundlessly, stopping to stand just next to the man. "It is sights like these that make me glad to be alive." she mentioned off-handedly, her gaze transfixed upon the plethora of colors the setting sun cast upon the sky. Before he could ask anything of her she spoke up again with a smile beginning to play across her lips. "I really should thank you for earlier, settling the crowd the way you did. It takes a rare individual to be able to inspire cooperation in moments such as those." For the first time she then looked up to meet his eyes, her own displaying a grateful shimmer as a lighthearted giggle followed her words. "For a second there I thought I was going to be trampled!"

Memories fade into the silence
Haunting me tonight
With hope's last breath I take this moment in
It will be the last
That morning breaks
And sunlight takes the pain away

Luke's head shot up in surprise at the sound of another voice. Lost in his own world he did not realize that another person was on top the roof or had followed him. Relaxing a bit from the short fright, he was about to say something after her statement but she cut him off fast. He glance up at her but found that he was sucked in by her stare. He eyes seemed so familiar to him, he stuttered then broke gaze quickly.
"Well, ya ...I mean," he stumbled about his words, "Someone has to keep the human race from turning into a bunch a savages." he hummed a short laugh at his own joke, but glancing over the girl appearance he quickly stopped. "...Not like there is anything wrong with being a savage...but..there are better things to do with your life than that." Her gypsy like garb made him wonder though.
"So, are you one of the civilians of the newly destroyed town? Or are you a wanderer, like me, just caught up in this mess?" He looked back into her gaze, so intoxicating. "By the way my name is Luke." Walking past her he walked to the edge of the roof and looked over the sort barrier. It was about a three story drop, but that did not stop the human from sitting atop the ledge and dangling his legs out into the nothing.
"I always thought there was something I could do better with my life. So I've chosen to live on my own..." he sighed as he looked into the lingering color left in the sky. The bright blue and deep purple were merging perfectly into the deep blues and blacks of the night. " However, I've also stumbled upon the truth that one can't do much in this world without the powers of a Slayer or demon. So, I guess I'm stuck with this pack of humans until something better comes along." He paused awkwardly, but he did not even know the lady's name..
"So, how'd you end up here?"

Ever after never came
And I'm still waiting for a love I'll never have
And all the dreams I lay to rest
Are ghosts that keep me
After all that I've become
I am only one
I'm on my own here
And no one's left to be the hero of
This fairy tale gone wrong
As night will fall my heart will die alone

Tala, the Blood Wolf

User ImageA human, living on their own? The man she now knew as Luke intrigued her more and more. With the constant threat of demons a lone human was a rarity, but for one to choose that life voluntarily? That was unheard of. Furthermore, unless he had left most of his equipment stashed away, Luke certainly didn't give off the air of someone incredibly well-armed. While he may not admit it - or possibly wasn't even aware - the man had tremendous willpower, and she had merely caught but a brief glimpse of it when he had settled the unruly crowd before.

Though she customarily evaded personal questions, she decided to answer Luke's at least half-truthfully as she folded her skirt delicately and sat next to her companion, her anklets clinking softly as she lightly swung her feet. "I have been a traveler for much of my time in this world, always searching for the next piece of my life to fulfill. I journeyed with a group once, though we parted ways some time ago. I had been in the city you called Anile for several days while planning my next destination when events began to unfold." She cast her eyes earthward in a simple act of sorrow, spying the last few stragglers that were making their way to what would be their new refuge. "Despite everything that happened, it would seem I am one of the lucky ones; as a wanderer, I lost nothing in the assault. So many lost so much in an unbelievably short amount of time..."

Rising to her feet, Tala scattered the somber air that had overtaken them with a lighthearted grin. "If there is one thing I have learned in my travels however, it is that to dwell in your sorrows will only result in your drowning in them." She bobbed up and down slightly as she took exaggeratedly long strides away from the ledge, speaking while facing away but loudly enough to be clearly heard. "As for what you said about humans not having the ability to make a difference in the world, allow me to share with you a tale."

If nothing else could be said about her, the demon in disguise was certainly apt at dramatic displays, making grandiose gestures and inflecting her voice to portray an impressive variety of emotions as her story unfolded. "We begin in a town full of laboring citizens, each of whom gives their all simply to survive the day and the day after. To their great dismay, a terrifying demon lays siege to the townspeople, forcing them to hide in fear and lose valuable time tending to their livelihoods. One day a visitor strangely arrives, a Slayer no less! He rids the people of their burden and is most joyously thanked. As he passes onward, the townsfolk once again resume their duties, ever grateful for his intervention. Months pass, and again a demon approaches. Again they hide, and pray for another savior to arrive. This time no one comes to their rescue, and those who try to flee are struck down until there are none left to defend the town. All are eventually lost.

"Then there is another town, identical to the last. It's people are likewise assailed by a demon, and are losing precious time. It is here that their story diverges, for their visitor is indeed not a Slayer, no. He is in fact merely a young man, wiser than his years would portray. It is he who notices that many of the townspeople are indeed fine hunters, others skilled craftsman. They devise a plan and lure the demon into town, where he finds himself at the dwindled mercy of dozens of hunters with steeled resolve and quickly meets his end. The strange visitor is again lavished with praise, but now the people know their worth. They rebuild, strengthened by their triumph over that which repressed them and better prepare themselves for the future. The next time a demon attempts to control them, they instead bond together defend themselves, proving to all that they are not to be trifled with. They drive off the demon, and are again uplifted by their own capability, ready to forge their own destiny."

Ending her tale with a small curtsy, her voice was again conversational once she continued. "You may know of the old adage 'give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, but teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' It holds the basic principle, but there is something much more important to take from the story." Her gaze was powerful now, determined to see that this message was taken seriously. "Slayers are indeed adept at felling demons, there is no denying that; but they cannot prepare the world to recover what it has lost. Killing a demon relieves people of their burden, but it does not inspire them to achieve greater things as a fellow person can.

Even a simple human, with a fierce will and fiery determination, can change the world."
She smiled then, an expression that held in it a moving mixture of sorrow and hope. "We could really use someone like that right about now."

It was obvious that D made Mina somewhat uncomfortable. She didn't push the matter any further, knowing when to stop prodding. She didn't usually like people throwing their two cents into her affairs, so why should she do just that to others? She gave the pretty young human a comforting smile, hoping she would see that she was only playing. "Sounds like a plan to me. I just passed through their camp, spirits were low but I have a feeling with a little help they'll come around. They just need a little hope." she said as Mina helped her get Alex into her arms without hurting him, which felt necessary seeing as Deanne rarely knew her own strength after a blood rage and a long rest. The two left the small, dilapidated room and headed back to where the townsfolk were being wowed by a group of high and mighty Templars. Oh yes, D knew them well. They had allowed her to fight for the humans thanks to Gideon who was a knight within their ranks and once the war was over and her beloved was dead the Templars turned on her, accusing her of aiding the demons and causing the death of their greatest warriors. That was when the Dunpeel escaped and distanced herself from everyone, becoming the lone bounty hunter she was today. These were not the same men, those who knew her would be long since passed, but they wore the same aura about them.

It was only when the fellow spoke up about Mina's friends that D realized how similar her robes were to theirs. This did not change her opinion of the girl at all, simply made her more wary for Mina's safety. The young leader of the group addressed them speaking directly to Mina without even really seeming to care for her presence. The half breed's eyes narrowed as she watched from under the brim of her hat. Her human companion ran to the boy and bowed in respect... D did not move. This young man had the aura of the Teacher, a soul that had once basically sentenced Deanne to death for crimes she never committed. When Mina gestured back to her and the limp body in her embrace D simply looked down at Alex, the shadow of her hat hiding her face more.

Reluctantly the Dunpeel did as she was asked and stepped towards the two, following as they entered the mall in silence without even an upward glance. Her blood was boiling inside her but she knew she must do what was best for Alex and Mina. The staring eyes of the other Templars and the townsfolk before they quickly realized their gaze and averted it was bothersome. Obviously the Templars had already worked their mind tricks upon these people. This was confirmed when the girl child to whom D had returned the doll smiled, moving to run towards her before being caught by her father and scolded. His glare and her pouting face made Deanne sigh in disappointment. Would the Teacher remember her when he got a clear view of her face? Or would she be able to remain there at least until Alex recovered and she was sure the people were safe? These questions had yet to be answered, yet D had to risk it.

User ImageEventually the Teacher lead the trio of slayers into an empty room, which had once been a jewelry store. Anything of value had long since been looted, but at least the broken glass had been swept away and a slightly dusty mattress was in the center. He gestured to D with a pleasant, if tepid, smile to let down Alexander there. "This is the best we can do for now, I'm afraid," he said with a shake of his head. "There are many others who require our attention as well."

Mina had knelt down next to Alex's bed to make sure his condition hadn't deteriorated, and thankfully it hadn't, so she stood up and addressed her role model. "Please, allow me to help, Teacher," she offered, tagging along behind the boy and leaving Alex's care in D's hands. The truth was, ever since there had been mention of the Templar, it was like there was a little spring in Mina's step. With all of the demons and fighting and death recently, it was lifting her spirits considerably to know that her 'family' --not her real one, but her family nonetheless-- was here, with her. Many of the Templar she knew personally, from when she had visited the Teacher's home up in the northern temples, and they shared a mutual respect.

She spent the remainder of the day scurrying around, helping to treat injured survivors, sweep out debris, or move beds and other furniture. She worked late into the night, slept for a couple of hours on the floor somewhere, then went right back to work in the morning. Enthused by the mere presence of the Teacher, Mina's energy seemed to know no bounds. During this time, when she was with one of the Templar, she laughed for the first time in several days. Though her body was tired her spirit was still as vibrant as ever.

* * *

As soon as daybreak came, the Templar took action. Squads of hooded men and women in the white and red garb of the Templar moved about the mall, posturing themselves at various points. All of the exits were covered, and the settlers were told not to wander outside of their rooms. Four squads of six Templar each then began to converge on the location of the Reaver demon's son and the Dunpeel, all from different sides. Despite the hat covering half her face, the Teacher had recognized D from the very beginning. She could have been masked, for all he cared, and he would have smelled the vampire's blood coursing within her. The memories of his predecessors were still clear in his mind, marking D as 'the one who got away'. Not only that, he also felt the slumbering demon inside of Alex, and not just any demon at that. A Reaver demon, one with a very special purpose. For the sake of mankind, it was imperative that this demon was destroyed. The very notion that this Omen of the apocalypse was masquerading as a slayer of demons, his own kind, was laughable to the Teacher. Lifetimes of experience had told him that demons were all the same. Savage, bloodthirsty, but also cunning. And in order to match them, the forces of good would need to be cunning as well.

While his Templar were getting ready to finish off what they believed to be a lone Dunpeel and unconscious Reaver demon, the Teacher himself approached the young priestess who had been busying herself with relief work. As soon as she saw him, she stood up and bowed, but his cool blue eyes just stared back at her, with the same intensity as ever. Constant, unwavering, and piercing. Even though he was physically shorter, he seemed to look down on her.

"Mina," he said quietly. What little compassion had once been in his voice was gone, replaced with something like... disappointment. "How long would you have continued your deception?"
The priestess's heart dropped, and her body froze up. With that simple question, she knew exactly what was happening.

Alexander Roh, The Omen

Killing is all i know.

After what felt like forever Alexander opened his eyes. Even in his unconscious state he could feel what was going on around him. Now that very feeling provided the need to come back tot he waking world. Seeing himself inside the remains of a local mall the young slayer put two and two together. He could sense the Templar as the closed in. Bringing himself back to his feet Alex turned to see D.
"Take a little nap and everything goes to hell. Would have been better off leaving me in the cave. Now we have those religious nutjobs to deal with. To make things worse my head is still swimming in the info i gained from my blood memories. Gods..... the s**t i now know would turn a normal persons stomach."

It was true, images and memories were flooding the young mans mind as time passed. More and more he came too understand what he was and why he was made. Even what the plan his father had to overthrown the blood court. What made it worse was the fact that Alex now knew that it would have worked. But without his father's decades of wisdom and control the demon blood in him was nothing more then a brute that needed to fight. This however was for another time as the young slayers mind changed its focus. Moving for the door only to poke his head out the door. Ya it was clear that they weren't going to just like them "stay peacefully" by the looks of things. What was worse was he knew well that striking even one of the Templar striking down ,even in self defense, would bring down the hammer. Guess it was a good thing that Alex wasn't limited to the use of his swords.

As one Templar entered the door a swift and heavy blow to the gut buckled the warrior. Giving the half blood a chance to pick him up and toss him over his shoulder. Leverage was needed in a situation such as this. Even if it was a human life he was being forced to use. Alexander had came in contact with the order many times in the past. Every time they attacked him as if he simply a mindless demon despite the work he had done. They listened to their own logic only and left reason behind. They were, in Alexander's eyes, No better then the cult that followed the blood court. Either side would use what ever means needed to accomplish their goals. Even going as far as using forbidden magic to make it so. If it wasn't for Mina and alex's little interaction he had with her the half blood would have simply struck these men down and moved on. But that was no longer an option. Moving to the main hall Alex left the Templar on his shoulder until he saw Mina and her so called teacher. Tossing the unconscious body of his attack at the feet of the teacher.
"Seems like your kind is still as blind as i remember. Sad that a so called holy order would kill someone based on their own beliefs rather then their actions. " Alexander's voice had returned to its cold emotionless state that it had originally held. No longer holding any warmth that had been brought upon by the young priestess. No, even with her only a few feet away Omen had returned to his normal state of mind.

† † † Melchizedek † † †
"The Teacher"

User ImageWhen Mina stayed silent, the Teacher began to pace. "We could have slain your... 'friends' as soon as they stepped foot in this place. Do you know why we didn't?" He stopped pacing right in front of her, looking at her dead in the eye. "It was because I had faith in you, Mina. I believed that you would realize the error of your ways and confess their wickedness. But it has been an entire day and now it is quite clear to me that you intend to do no such thing." With each word that the Teacher spoke, more guilt coursed through her like venom, paralyzing her. The Teacher whom Mina had practically worshipped her entire life had put his trust in her... and she had let him down. She wished nothing more than for the ground to open up and swallow her hole, sending her to hell to be punished for all eternity. It certainly would have been better than facing a disappointed Melchizedek.

There was a terrible silence where all Mina could think about was what a failure of a priestess she had turned out to be, but it was soon broken by Alexander's arrival. She looked up at him with hazy eyes, as though she was barely seeing him. His words sounded muffled, like he was talking underwater.

"An abomination like you could never understand," responded the Teacher coldly, unfazed by his presence. He didn't even take a second glance at the Templar that had been tossed at his feet. He should have known better; a Reaver demon would only take a day or two to recover from most injuries thanks to their unholy regeneration. Giving the priestess a full day to confess her wrongdoing had turned out to be too much of an indulgence. But the end result would be the same. "You're surrounded, little Omen. There is no hope of escape for you now. You shall be yet another minion of evil to be cleansed by the forces of good."

Memories fade into the silence
Haunting me tonight
With hope's last breath I take this moment in
It will be the last
That morning breaks

The gypsy girl was seemingly right, and her story was intriguing to the human. However he wondered if it was based on truth or fiction. Besides the point though they chatted until the sun was down and the moon in the sky. Eventually Luke departed ways and settled into a small room with a few other displaced individuals. Sleep was something that evaded him, the sounds of the old building, children crying, and the Templars rounds were not as calming as spending the night under the calming sky. Eventually the morning broke the sky and Luke stirred from the tattered blanket he used as a bed. Steatch his eyes looked around the room at the others sleeping silently. He then wondered where that young girl he talked to had gone. He had not even gotten her name, and finding her may be a harder task then he realized. However finding a young girl with dark red hair and eyes would not be that hard, his hope argued against his mind.

Slowly the human got up and went to the entrance of the door. A conversation had broke out, the voices sounded young but wise...confusing to Luke. He rested up against to old frame of the door way that was a office in it's earlier life. Gazing at the individuals he noticed Mina and that injured Slayer. The leader of the Templar group, the Teacher was speaking. Abomination?!, the teen used to address the battered boy in front of the two. Omen.... the human thought reviewing the fables that were spread around campfires and used as bed time stories. the name came to him through a story Sophia told him once...a silly little thing, that the boy with demon's blood would find a way to return this world to normal, but it was just a wives tale told to young children so they would not cry when their daddies were torn apart by a demon and did not return home. Still Luke kept a hand at the door frame wondering if this comment would agitate the Slayer. Children were also in the room with him and a blood bath was something they particularly did not need that day.

Waiting for his words Luke wanted to see that Slayer explode in anger. Giving that Teacher something to think about would make his day. A snear ran across his face as the the gypsy girls comment ran through his head, Slayers are indeed adept at felling demons....but it does not inspire them to achieve greater things as a fellow person can. Why could not half breeds establish themselves in the human community? Where they really that dangerous..is so wouldn't Mina be dead by now? Demon were the creatures humans were suppose to revere with hatred, their spawn were something completely different. This slayer standing up for the half breeds would be a sight to see now, but guards soon started to crowd the hallway, but gave the three their room.

Ever after never came

Killing is all i know.

"Forces of good? Don't make me laugh. An order that pushes their ways on others and forces them to conform to their way of life is no force of good. As for your little man there if i was evil i would have simply snapped his neck. But as you can see he is still alive and breathing. Then again a blind puppet of a slowly crumbling faith would know nothing."
Omen made no attempt to put up a fighting stance. No, these mindless zealots were not worth the effort. If they struck him down for simply being then it only showed how wrong their faith was. Alexander had no intention of dropping to the level of those who feel their way of life was perfect.

"I still find it funny that so many people cling to that way of life. Even after heaven has decided to turn the other cheek to these matters. Hell i've even had the pleasure of meeting an angel in person. Now, tell me this. If i'm so wicked then why had this angel given me his sword to use? After all if i was so dark and evil i wouldn't have even been able to see him.Need proof? i'll give you some."
Again The Reaver summoned his weapons only to grab the feathery golden blade.Stabbing in into the floor before him.
"See this? he gave it to me just before his soul faded. Before you say i stole it you'll find yourself thinking twice before using those words. Holy weapons can't be obtained unless a holy being grants you it."

A smile returned to his face as he tapped the hilt of his weapon. If they made made a move he would show them what the weapon would do. Other then that it was simply a showdown to see who would react first. Willingly Alexander had just put out in the open that there were flaws in these men's Order. Would it be enough to push them to start a fight in front of so many people? It would be simple to just grab one of these men and take the fight outside. Still now it was up in the air.

The Teacher showed them the old jewelers and the mattress that would have to serve as a bed. Deanne nodded and set the boy down before moving over to the wall and leaning on it, allowing the Teacher and Mina their time. The Dunpeel had a bad feeling about this, everything part of her screamed for her to run before it was too late. But if she did what would happen to the others. The two soon left the room and D sighed, moving back over to Alex and kneeling beside him. "There's no harm in me speeding up the recovery a little. It very well could be the only thing I can do for you now." She closed her eyes and placed her hands together, rubbing them against each other for a moment as she muttered something that sounded like it was in another tongue. As she did so a beautiful silver light formed between them, slowly seeping out in a strange slithering form making sluggish loops around her hands as it grew. Soon it resembled a small Chinese dragon and curled itself around her hands as if binding them together, looking up at Deanne's face waiting. D opened her eyes and smiled down at the creature. "Reiki, I need you to do all you can for this boy. I know you don't usually heal demons, but he is like me." The dragon nodded and made a sound that resembled purring before leaping into the air from Deanne's hands and diving into Alex's chest. This action caused Alex's body to jolt slightly but there was no pain.

With Reiki working his own magic on the boy Deanne returned to the wall and rested there waiting. It wasn't long before the Templar bastards surrounded them but D made no move to leave. Not until Alex was awake. Reiki returned to D, his graceful flight through the air almost hypnotizing. He gently slithered around her neck, rubbing his cheek against hers before once again wrapping around her hands and working in reverse, disappearing into her hands. The Dunpeel stood, watching as Alex shot up out if his slumber and started raving. "Kid... calm down. Anger will not solve anything now. We came here not knowing what waited and once we were here it was too late. Mina is with The Teacher now. You must tread lightly..." But he was not listening. It was a wonder why she felt so much for this boy and Mina when they seemed to only see her when she was needed. But in a way... that was a very good thing. If she were to leave now maybe they would not notice or even care until it was too late. Deanne watched as he accosted a Templar and brought him into the room before storming off.

Left alone with the limp and useless Templar's body Deanne sighed. "Maybe it is time to leave. They can handle themselves just fine..." Why did the thought of leaving them hurt her so much? She didn't even know the boy's name! It was time she got back to her only real purpose in life. The Dunpeel melted into the shadows of the room and in the blink of an eye was gone. When she reappeared it was outside where she found the little girl from earlier playing alone. She smiled and crouched down. "Hey." She whispered. The child turned to see her there and beamed, running to her and hugging the half breed around the neck. "It's you! Daddy said they were going to kill you." She muttered, happy he'd been wrong. D grumbled at this news but placed her arm around the child before separating them. "Don't you worry about that little one, they'd have to actually catch me first. I came because I need to leave. I must..." she paused, not wanting to frighten the child. "I must see my own daddy, but I haven't been able to find my friends. Could you do me a favor?" the little girl nodded, her dirty but still adorable piggy tails swishing around with the movement. "I need you to find the boy and girl I came here with. Tell the girl to listen to her heart and not her past. And the boy... tell him we are not our fathers, the battle inside him is a tiring one but he will prevail." The child frowned. "Please don't go lady. I don't like these men. They make my daddy scary." Deanne smiled gently and place a hand on the child's cheek. "Don't be frightened, your daddy loves you that's all. When adults are scared they cling to whatever gives them hope." D took off the necklace she wore, the pendant a shimmering white gold angel holding a diamond heart, and placed it around the child's neck. "This was given to me by someone very special. He said that as long as I wore it he would always be with me. He's an angel now... and I think you need him more than I do. May Gideon guide you." The little girl's tiny fingers touched the pendant and she smiled again. D stood up and adjusted her cloak. "And if things get too scary and Gideon just isn't enough, call for D and I'll come running if I can." With that said D slunk back into the shadows and the little girl happily hurried off to do as she was asked.

The child soon found Mina and Alex. They were standing with the leader of the Templar order and surrounded by his men. She was frightened of them but she clutched at the angel around her neck for courage and ran through the men, making it to Alex's side. " 'scuse me Mr. I gotta tell you something." She didn't understand what was happening, the hostility in the room. She peered over to Mina and smiled. "You too lady." the little darling still clutching at the pendant, believing in D... believing in Gideon.

"The Teacher"

User Image"I think you'll find that all of my followers do so quite voluntarily," said the Teacher with a calm smile, spreading his arms and gesturing to the robed Templar standing around them. "People join us because we offer them what you cannot. Unconditional safety. Aid with reconstruction. We are not mere killing machines such as yourself, although the sword of justice must remain sharp as well." He was in no hurry to attack; the situation was still entirely in his control. Although his adversary was powerful, he was outnumbered thirty to one, not to mention they were in the presence of the Teacher himself.

His smile briefly faded when Alexander summoned the golden sword. The spectators noticed the elegant weapon as well, and began to murmur at the sight of it. It didn't take long for Melchizedek to regain his composure, however. "Even the purest of beings can sometimes lose their way," he responded, shooting a significant glance at Mina who was still standing behind him. She withered under his glare, but said nothing. "Would you like to spew more lies before you are cleansed, demonspawn?" It was then that a little girl ran into the middle of the conflict before any of the Templar could stop her. She wore a brilliant gold pendant which she clutched in her tiny hands, and the Teacher recognized it as Gideon's. He was before Melchizedek's time, but he still remembered Gideon as one of the most talented and loyal followers the Templar had ever seen. He also remembered Gideon's fall, both physically and spiritually, when he defied orders and dared to love one of the very creatures he was supposed to hunt: the daughter of the vampire, Laurent. He had been expecting the vampire halfbreed to come along with the Reaver demon, but it seems that she had slipped away. It was no matter, the guards at stationed at each of the exits would stop her, and even if they didn't, it would simply make the 'cleansing' of Alexander even easier without her interference.

Mina was curled up in the corner, shivering, when she looked up and saw the little girl. The girl's innocence reminded her of herself when she was young and oh so impressionable. But though she saw the girl, her eyes were still dull and lifeless from the guilt that she was harboring for having betrayed the Teacher's trust. The Teacher may have been amused by the girl, but now was not the time to be entertaining children. "Run along now, child," he urged her, trying to get her out of the area so that Alexander could be executed without trouble.

Alexander Roh, The Omen

Killing is all i know.

Alexander brought himself to the little girl's level. This was the worst time for a child to get in the way of things. When he saw the pendent he slightly shook his head. It seemed that D planned on running off on her own. While there was nothing that he could do to stop her he couldn't help but blame his lack of interaction with her girl at the same time.
"How about this kiddo. I'll bring you over to Mina and to tell her what you need to and she can tell me later. These big mean men think that they can control everything. So i need to make them see that not all paths are black and white."
Not even giving the kid a second to respond Alex grasped the handle of his golden sword only to scoop the child in his free arm. Instantly the pair vanished from sight as if the were no long there only to appear beside the cowering priestess. Placing the girl down he slowly walked back past the Templar as if he was nothing but a ghost.Only to point at Mina.

"Do you see that girl. The one you demeaned and demoralized? She has more heart then your whole order. She will change the world, not you. Playing on the fears of the masses and claiming to be workers for god only puts you on a pedestal beyond your real standing. Just like any religion you bash anything that doesn't go your way. Discredit anything that you dislike. Its this that makes you no better then the demons that push to take over this world. But your simple mind might not understand that does it. You can strike at me but i will say this right now....."

Narrowing his eyes and flaring his aura.
"I still have things to do and i can't let some fanatical cultist stop me. So if you attack me now i will not show any mercy. I shall burn this blades image into your mind."
Swinging the blade around it almost made a humming sound. As if the weapon was singing to those willing to hear it. Returning the blade back into the very same hole he had stabbed before Alexander just held his ground. If wasn't going to be the one to start the fight. Oh no, he planned on showing just how corrupt this so called "Holy Order" really was. Plus it was more fun this way.

The sweet child cowered slightly when the Teacher spoke to her, his eyes on the necklace. Her hand tightened around the tiny angel and she closed her eyes tightly against his gaze, shaking her head. "No! I don't wanna go and you can't make me you big meanie!" Her father was in the group around them, dressed like the others after being converted to their ranks. His heart fell seeing his little girl standing up to his leader like that and he stepped forward. "Ophelia! Leave here now. This isn't.." The little girl shook her head again. "I won't go!" there were tears welling up in her eyes, that poor girl so frightened but trying to stay brave. When Alex brought himself down to her she faced him, sparing one hand to wipe away her tears quickly. "The slayer lady wanted me to tell you..." but he cut her off. It all happened so quickly and soon enough she was left beside the quivering Mina. Ophelia pouted but turned to Mina and put her little arms around her. "Don't be scared Miss Mina. These men are big and mean but Gideon will keep us safe, your friend told me so!" one of her tiny hands stroked Mina's hair comfortingly, just as her mother used to do for her before the demons took her. The other hand offered the pendant to Mina to hold with her, the chain being long enough of the girl as not to choke her. She tried to get her to look at her now. "She wanted me to tell you to listen to your heart and not your past." Ophelia didn't really understand what these words meant at all but she had faith in D and believed that Mina would understand them. "and the man over there, she wanted to tell him they aren't their daddies. That what is in him is tiring but he will pr... prevail." that was a hard word for the little one to say and she paraphrased a bit but surely the message would get through.

User Image"You won't show any mercy?" repeated the Teacher, almost laughing. "You're hardly in a position to be saying something like that." He raised his hand into the air, signalling to the Templar around them. He then dropped his arm, pointing his finger at the lone slayer. "Templar! Carry out our sacred duty, and erase this fiend!" he ordered. The white-clad fanatics closed in on Alex, weapons raised.

Mina lifted her head to face the child that had embraced her. She felt so dirty, so... unworthy. It would have been easier of the Teacher had yelled at her, struck her, or insulted her. At least that would have helped to ease the guilt she was feeling. She looked up confusedly at the girl, and hesitantly grasped the pendant in her hand. It was cool to the touch, and beautiful to see. Whoever crafted it had obviously worked painstakingly on the details of the angelic figure, down to the very folds in its clothes. She had no idea who this 'Gideon' was, but he was probably connected to the pendant. With a sad smile, she released her hold on the pendant and her hand retreated back to her knees. Listen to your heart and not your past... she repeated in her head, but it was much easier said than done. Unlike Tala, her past was filled with good memories and a loving family. Temporarily leaving it behind to go on a pilgrimage was one thing, but rejecting it all outright, especially with her idol present, was another thing entirely. She shook her head, and patted the girl on the head. Her voice sounded like she had made up her mind.

"Thank you. I now know what I must do," she told her, finally standing up.

Memories fade into the silence
Haunting me tonight
With hope's last breath I take this moment in
It will be the last
That morning breaks
And sunlight takes the pain away

Like Luke expected the situation had escalated. Every taunt they threw at each other seemed to be absorbed by the opponent. The use of weapons did not help the situation either, though the angelic gift given to the Slayer was a beautiful piece of metalwork. When one of the kids slipped through the guard Luke clenched his hand at the bow to his back. One thing Luke did not like was when children got int the way. The Slayer bending down and gentle giving the child to Mina, meant to Luke that the Slayer meant no harm. However with the call of the guard Luke's adrenaline picked up again. Quickly he pulled his bow to the front of him. Mina's voice broke the commotion and the settled amungst the crowd.

Ever after never came
And I'm still waiting for a love I'll never have
And all the dreams I lay to rest
Are ghosts that keep me
After all that I've become
I am only one
I'm on my own here
And no one's left to be the hero of
This fairy tale gone wrong
As night will fall my heart will die alone
