What Monsters Are You Hiding?

The Diner

Kaia entered the door hurriedly, she had to get the orders out at once! She had eight coffee's to deliver to tables 10, 4, 7 and 14. Then she had to run back for the burgers, and pies that were nearly done. The cafe/diner was once again packed and somehow always understaffed. She never had time for a break, and she never got home on time. At least this way she was earning just enough money to keep the flat that she rented a few streets away. Heaven knows her "boyfriend" didn't earn anything.
He was never officially her boyfriend. He smoked all day, playing his guitar. He wasn't any good and never practiced. But somehow he always managed to get random chicks to come home with him. She saw one once. And there were traces he'd been with other women before. Though if she questioned him about it he would become angry and accuse her of cheating. She never did. Though even when she spoke to other men he'd fly into a rage. There were more times than one when she'd bled because of him.
One he'd broken her arm in a door. He was so high he thought she was trying to kill him. So he tried to kill her first. She should have left him. Called police, had him kicked out and moved house. He'd always told her if she left him he would find her. She never left. She always found some excuse, some pathetic reason she should stay.

A moment later she was snapped back to reality,
"Hello?" The pudgy woman in front of her was saying, she waved her hand in front of Kaia's face. Kaia blinked,
"Oh, I'm sorry," She stuttered, the woman scoffed,
"It's about time. You gave me this it's far too hot!" She pointed at the coffee in front of her. The bell at the counter dinged, indicating they needed her back in the kitchen to take orders out to people.
"Oh... well I'm sure if you let it sit, it will cool down--" She started
"No I will not let it sit! I want to drink it NOW!" She then proceeded to jab her fat finger in Kaia's face, "YOU go back and get me another coffee! AND a refund!" Kaia blinked, the manager had told her company policy was not to give refunds AND replacements unless there was no way of fixing the item. The bell was hit again.
"Uh, well, if I get Sandra to make you a new cup, it would take longer than if you let it cool--" This time the woman stood up, she looked like an over filled water-balloon, and an angry one at that.
"Of all the nerve! I want to see your manager! I am so SICK of all the incompetent staff here!" The bell hit again, more agitated. Someone at the counter called for her, Kaia stepped back from the woman.
"I-I'll go get Mr. Smithy--" The woman was obviously so enraged that Kaia wasn't fighting back that she picked up the paper cup.
"Take this with you!"
In the next moment Kaia was splashed with piping hot coffee. Her scream silenced the whole diner. She tried to hold the clothes away from her body as another waitress ran over and helped Kaia out the back where she stripped in the change room. Her skin was red raw. Her only other clothes was a spare uniform that was a little too big. After a few moments the other waitress had to run out again, and Kaia was able to run her skin under cold water for a while. Hopefully it would prevent a serious burn. After she had re-dressed the manager came in, demanding to know what had happened. Kaia tried to explain the best she could but apparently the customer led her boss to believe Kaia had insulted her and spilt the coffee on herself. Kaia could not believe her ears. But when she tried to defend herself Mr. Smithy held his hand up,
"Why don't you go home?" After her left Kaia found herself in tears. Crying and crying. How had her life become this?

Aidyn's life had always been too busy for anything he wanted. His time was consumed with taking care of his alcoholic mother, whom stayed in his house, working, and going to school. His friend's kept trying to tell him, that he needed a break even if it was only for a few hours, they kept trying to get him out of the house. Aidyn just wouldn't listen... until Felicia left. Felicia had been his on-again off-again girlfriend for the past three years. Felicia may have always been keeping secrets and running off but when he really needed her she was there, she even understood. Normally when Felicia decided to leave it was in dramatic flair and never lasted more than a month, it was now four months and counting. Aidyn was starting to feel not only overwhelmed and stressed but, also, very lonely... almost the beginning of a depression.
Aidyn's friend's had, had just about enough of his moping around and decided that either he could take himself to the diner a block or two over, or they would drag him, it was completely his choice.

With being forced into the diner, Aidyn decided it was better to just go alone, maybe then he might be able to think about everything going on and get some peace. Aidyn walked into the restaurant, getting an earful of screaming. Glancing sideways he felt bad for the poor waitress who had to listen to the over demanding, completely trying to compensate, and too controlling woman. Aidyn continued to watch carefully as the costumer purposefully spilled the piping-hot coffee onto the waitress. Aidyn felt the need, more of a compulsion, to help the waitress. He started to walk over towards her but then thought better of the idea. Instead he headed out the restaurant, and towards the employee entrance in the back. Leaning up against the wall, he waited for her.

I am waiting for a woman, who
A. does not know me and
B. probably does not want any type of social interaction.
Why am I doing this? I think I have lost my entire mind. I should probably figure out what I am going to say to her.

Kaia sniffed as she collected her things, she wished she could sink into the floor and wake up in a world where people loved her, needed her. And she felt valued. If only. The saddest words in any language. If only.
She sighed to herself her wet and now cold stained uniform in her bag, and the loose jeans and shirt one of the other girls had leant her. They smelled faintly of mothballs, having been in a closet for a while. She washed her face in the sink before heading out the back door. The garbage bin reeked of old food, trash and other disgusting things she didn't want to know about. She headed out the side gate that lead out to the street. She knew her soft blue eyes were red, she knew her face was puffy, but she hoped her ebony hair would hide it.
Her skin, usually a pale tone, felt sore, and every time her clothes brushed against it, she winced. She wanted to go home to sleep. It's all she ever wanted to do lately, it was so hard to get up in the mornings now... So hard to do anything without the crushing weight of her life's responsibilities falling on her shoulders like a ton of bricks.
She had tried to end it once before. There were scars on her wrists from a few months ago. But she never told anyone. She'd managed to convince people that she'd smashed a mirror and it had cut her. Noone cared enough to question further anyway.
A moment later she felt something against her, she looked up to find she'd literally walked into someone, a young man.

This seems like it's taking forever for her to come out. I wonder if I was even right.... Midway through Aidyn's thought process, he was interrupted with the waitress running into him. Aidyn was knocked off guard and with his lacking balance, naturally, began to fall, hitting the filth ridden, wet concrete sidewalk with a fairly loud clunk. His first reaction was anger and disappointment for him falling, yet what proceeded to come out of his mouth was neither, Aidyn wholeheartedly laughed. As he continued to laugh for the next minute or so, anyone could see his smile increasing in length until it reached his eyes. Finally he pulled himself off the ground, feeling much better.
"Hello. I know this is awkward and more than a bit strange but I couldn't help but want to know if you were okay. I walked into Aidyn points obviously to the diner this place and saw this woman yelling and then her spill the coffee on you. I know it must have been hard not, uh, well still continuing to be polite to that woman. And it is probably really creepy that I came all the way to the back to ask you how you were." Aidyn's piercing green eyes stared straight at the waitress, judging her. He always did that, but there wasn't much to judge she was clearly wearing someone else's clothing because of the coffee incident. So none of the clothes she was wearing really represented her.

Kaia blinked up at him. On the one hand she'd just bowled him over, for which she felt really bad. But he'd come out the back here to find her. The fact that a stranger would come over to see how she was, it really touched her. Kindness from a stranger was a rare thing. She smiled,
"Uhm, thank you. Thank you so much, I... I think I'm alright." She replied, her voice soft and musical. She felt nervous, just talking to this boy could get her into trouble. Should her "boyfriend" Michael see her. Though he rarely left the apartment, unless it was to get pot. Though she didn't know why she felt guilty, Michael wasn't really her boyfriend. He never said "I love you" he never did anything nice for her... in fact the only thing he did do was get her to clean up all the time. Kaia looked down again, here this boy was standing there, looking at her. Most likely regretting his decision to come back here and meet her. She glanced back up at him, "I... I hope I'm not taking you away from anything important?" she asked, she gave him the opportunity to leave if he wanted, without any guilt of making her feel bad. As if he'd want to hang out here with her when he most likely had heaps of friends and a beautiful girlfriend?
Looking at him, she could see he was most certainly handsome. And he looked confident. Something Kaia wished she had but knew she couldn't get. Not in the life she lived. But that was her lot and she would deal with it.

"Oh don't worry, there is nothing too important not to make sure you're okay. There are too many people who don't receive enough kindness, in the world, ya' know? You look pretty shaken up, would you mind if I got you a cup of cof--" Aidyn had almost said coffee but remember that the waitress had just received scorching hot coffee, all over her body, he quickly fixed and adjusted his sentence. "a smoothie?" Aidyn was getting more nervous with each passing second, hoping that he won't sound as creepy to her as he sounds in his head. With his anxiousness increasing he also began rambling at almost incoherent speeds. "If you don't have anything to do or you would like to, I mean. It's just that I believe that for every bad thing I see happen I have to do at least one good thing about it or for that person. It's kinda like the movie seven pounds™, with Will Smith. I don't know, why but I just feel better when I help people. So actually you would totally be helping me out, if you let me do this." Aidyn's expression changed yet again, from the piercing eyes to more of a softer look. He honestly was concerned for this waitress. He wanted to see a smile on her face, he could already imagine just how much more beautiful she is with a smile. He honestly blanked completely forgetting his manners, which rarely happened. "Oh, I am so sorry, My name is Aidyn... and yours is? And by any chance, would you like to start walking out of this filth ridden alley?"

Kaia looked up at him surprised, he offered to take her out! Well, to go get a smoothie. She blushed, her cheeks tinging a light pink. She never thought she'd find someone -anyone- who would be so selfless. Such a simple act was astounding! She bit her lip and nodded. Taking a few steps to walk by his side she had her head down by habit and tried to keep up.
"M-my name is Kaia." She said offering his hand, "it's very nice to meet you Aidyn..." she said softly. If she would be helping him by going with him, well, how could she say no? She did like helping people... She blushed again and walked out to the street, a step behind him. There was another cafe down the street, she didn't really want to go back inside. Not with her boss and that woman in there. It was something she didn't want to face right now. She decided she'd follow him wherever he led.

Kaia offered Aidyn her hand, while they actually introduced themselves, though another problem arose inside of Aidyn, he hated handshakes-- they are so cold-- he much rather a hug any day. Aidyn made a slight twitch first, he tends to do this when he forces himself to do something he doesn't want to do , then took Kaia's hand and shook it, as if she or them both were businessmen. "As it is also absolutely wonderful to meet you, Kaia." As the two walked out of the alleyway Aidyn studied her, out of natural curiosity. His curiosity which also translated two years into a psychology major, his favourite off brand-- sociology. Though Aidyn did not need to study her to reveal how shy she is, her voice and tone did that enough for her but her tone depicted more than just shyness he just couldn't put his figure on what the more was, yet. I really want to get to know Kaia. I wonder what is it, that makes her look down when she walks. Professor would say it's a lack of confidence, I don't think it's quite that. I think it's that she doesn't know how strong she is. Just like when she smiles, It could make the sun think she was showing off.
Naturally Aidyn took long, distant strides before he really thought that Kaia is smaller, than he is, and has a disadvantage to walking with him. Thinking this through and noticing Kaia was at least one good step behind him even with the fact they started equal distance, he slowed his pace reminding himself, this is for her not you, a*****e. And thanks to my handy work, I now have to start doing the seven pounds, selfless thing. Even if that is the last thing I am, selfless. I know I did it, just to see her smile. But is that really so selfish? At first Aidyn began to drag out his car keys, but he reconsidered the idea. I can walk with Kaia, and get to know her, to the three-block-over Jamba Juice™ or I can make this outing just as cold as that handshake. Stop being so selfish, Aidyn. Ask her." So, Kaia, would you rather take the car ::nodding towards the 'a couple years old, only slightly beat up' Jeep Grand Cherokee:: to the three-block-over Jamba Juice™ or take a lovely walk to the place?" Aidyn walked a few more steps before pausing and waiting for her answer. "It is completely up to you, you are the guest to this journey. As he said this, completely cliche quote, he held a slight smile, and looked at her. There sure is something different about her. I wish I could place what it is.

Kaia blinked and looked over at Aidyn's car, she knew never to get in the car with a stranger. And suddenly disappointment hit her, was he expecting more from their meeting than just a juice? Did he want more? Kaia didn't want to think that this nice guy just wanted to get in her pants... Though every encounter she'd had with men had sort of led her to the same conclusion. Though she was NOT a willing participant.
'No... I can't just assume that he wants to sleep with me, I have no proof or anything!' She thought. Clearing her head she gulped,
"ah... I'll walk... I need the fresh air..." She stuttered, hopefully this way he might subtly get the hint. She didn't wand Michael to find out and lay his hands on her again... She didn't want anymore briuses to have to explain...

Aidyn was so relieved when Kaia had said she would rather walk but her facial expression when he asked which mode of transportation, she would rather use. The expression was, it reminded him of, something familiar to him... fear. Aidyn began to walk towards where the Jamba Juice was, pausing only to wait for Kaia to begin to move. "So... the scene in the dinner, is that just an everyday occurrence? Some customer getting mad about something so frivolous, that is." As he was waiting for her response he looked around and enjoyed the scenery around him. He enjoyed spring time so much, the tulips beside him were blooming becoming three shades of beauty. He had the sudden urge to venture to the park but somehow, with how Kaia responded to the car question he thought that it would not go over so well. In his head he remembered the cherry blossoms, oh how he loved them so. His mother never called him a man, always a woman. Aidyn was sensitive, loved movies, flowers, and most things girly but he was not gay. As he looked at the tulips lifting the heavy petals, he grimaced.

Kaia gulped, she didn't want to make him nervous. But at the same time she didn't want to lead him on. She hoped that Michael was still in the apartment... She certainly didn't want him to have left for once in his life and see her talking to another guy. Michael could be violent. Not only with other men either. Kaia had her share of broken bones in this 'relationship' as well. She looked back at Aidyn, he was looking wistfully at the flowers in the park. She bit her lip, should she trust him?
'Well on the one hand he hasn't given you reason NOT to trust him...' she thought to herself. 'Then again whose to say... No... I've got to stop thinking negative. How can something positive happen to me if I mistrust everyone?' Taking a deep breath, her mind made up she turned to her new friend and asked,
"Would you... like to take a detour?" She gestured toward the park where there was a beautiful flower garden, and blossoming trees as well. It was gorgeous. She truly loved flowers. they were beautiful and innocent. Her father had told her she was like a white rose. She wished someone still thought of her that way...

Aidyn watched Kaia contemplate something, like she was arguing with herself, he had seen her do thins before but he really didn't notice it or thought it was a frequent occurrence, not that he minded. It was just different to see someone, who actually thought things through. He began to tell her just that, "You know it's so different finding....."
stressed He means uh, blaugh Aidyn was sure his expression didn't look too appealing, but as she spoke the words he was thinking. He reeled, he just, it was just like they might be on the same wave length. Aidyn was so happy for a moment, could he have actually have found a friend that had something in common with him. The park, now he felt so stupid for not asking but any whore, at least he knew he had something in common with Kaia. He wanted to strike up a conversation but every time he seemed to fail, when he tried. He keep thinking on just how to do that. "As a matter of fact I would love to, I adore flowers. I think my favourite is between the white rose or the sunflower. Both are so unique, delicate, yet breath taking. Or is that just me? Aidyn breathed out with the hint of a lingering laugh, still filling the air. "What is your favourite flower?" Aidyn posed the question looking kindly, yet directly into her eyes. If anyone who knew him saw him right now, they would think he was five again. Innocence was written clearly on his face, as well as the naivety that normally comes with the 'whole-five-year-old' thing. Aidyn began to stroll the opposite way, towards the flowers, the scents wafting through the air, the budding flowers from the trees gracefully to the earth. I wish I had my camera, this is gorgeous!

Kaia blushed, he... he liked white roses too? In that moment she felt her heart flutter. Like a tiny butterfly it flitted around in her chest making her need to take several deep breaths, she tried to keep her cool, so he wouldn't notice.
"My favourite flower? Well... I always liked roses..." She said softly. Almost embarrassed. She felt nervous and happy at the same time. He was a blessing that had come to her. Someone in heaven must be watching over her... She hoped at least she would make good friends with him. "And Sakura Blossoms..."
As she walked with him she noticed the blossoms in the tree above her... there were so many in the tree, and falling from it too, the breeze brought some over and they graced her cheek, tickling her as she walked. She giggled softly as she felt some of the blossom petals grace her hair with an almost crown like array of soft pink petals. She fought the urge to dance in the leaves, she was far too shy and embarrassed to do so. She looked up at Aidyn, her huge doe like blue eyes gazing up at him through her black silky hair. Her cheeks tinged a slight pink, similar to the colours of the blossom Petals

As they walked through the garden, almost overrun by the cherry blossoms, Aidyn couldn't help but to keep glancing at Kaia. Walking through the garden Aidyn noticed her blush and her glow, maybe he was just making it up in his mind but she seemed happier than she had an hour or so ago. You like the cherry tree, really?! Isn't it so beautiful! Aidyn then began to dance in the falling blossoms, spinning and twirling. His cares seems to be fading out of reality, now was just a point with his imagination running wild. Any moment now he was waiting for him to be awoken by his drunken mother. Nonchalantly he pinched himself. Today was going too well, it was too weird. Almost creepy. Aidyn just shrugged these thoughts away, though, and continued to be caught in the day. Nothing could rain on his parade now, even when it began to rain. The rain, only made him want to dance more. Then, one thought crossed his mind, he didn't want Kaia to get a cold. Swiftly without much attention, he took of his jacket and wrapped it around Kaia's shoulders. With the rain running down his face and his hair beginning to dampen Aidyn said, I wouldn't want you to get sick. If only today wasn't make believe, if only he could actually be this person. This real nice sincere guy. If only...

If only every day was like this. If only she didn't have to go home to that filthy apartment that would never be clean no matter how many times she washed and scrubbed. If only Michael wasn't there anymore. If only he didn't beat her. Bruise her and make her feel like dirt. If only...
All these thoughts flowed through her as she felt the rain fall. It was dampening, but as she looked up she saw Aidyn dancing in the rain! She giggled as the sight, as well as amusing it was captivating. Like a dream, like it was in slow motion. she didn't notice he was right beside her until she felt his jacket over her shoulders, hesitantly she slipped her arms inside.
"Wh-what about you? Wont you be cold?" She asked, concerned. He would really give up his jacket for her? It was such a touching moment she felt she might cry. However she refrained from doing so. She felt something warm on her hand but in her tunnel vision didn't realize her hand in fact rested on his arm. she felt drawn in. The scenery, the rain and this young man. He truly seemed to be her knight in shining armor. Scenes flashed through her mind, of her leaving Michael, and Aidyn sweeping her off her feet. Where the ghosts of this life would disappear.
Mentally she shook her head. And the words echoed to her again, if only... She sighed quietly and looked back up at him, "Thank you." For the moment she could enjoy this day. For now she could live a pretend lie. If only for one afternoon. She smiled, glad that the rain could hide her tears of happiness.
