- oooBreathing. Labored, heavy breathing. It was all she could hear at the moment, all she could focus on. Every so often it would be broken up into sections by a dry swallow, followed up by a gasp and another fit of breathing. She needed to get a hold of herself. If not then they might hear her, and if they heard her there would be more trouble than she cared for. Taking in a deep breath she held it in, fighting against the burning sensation in her chest. The true culprit emerged then, the thundering in her ears overtaking the place of the nuisance. Next, she would have to control the speed. Closing her eyes she began to concentrate on the sound of her heart, thinking only of what it should have sounded like: steady and strong. For a while it would seem this tactic wasn't going to work. Then, slowly, the beating began to still itself, falling and falling into a more normal rhythm. The burning in her chest ceased, and with great relief she released the breath she had been holding and opened her eyes. Now that she had control once again, what was their situation?
Chaeli's emerald gaze darted over to the furthest corner where a figure crouched down. A familiar and comforting sapphire stare was there to greet her's, several thin locks of similar raven hair cutting angles into them. They held a sense of uncertainty. It had been almost an hour since they had found themselves in the little supply locker. Of course this wasn't the most ideal place to be stuck in any situation, but when a hoard of flesh-crazed demons was on your tail any reinforced door was a welcome one. Placing her back against the steel plating Chaeli leaned in and listened closely. The frantic sounds of scratching and growling had stopped coming from the other side; a very good sign. Sure there was still a chance of their being stragglers mulling about in the alleyway beyond, but it was better than an angry mob. They needed to move and find a better place before nightfall or risk being cornered by something even worse.
Looking back to Eri Chaeli nodded her head. "When I count to three, we run. Just stay behind me, okay?" As she spoke her hand reached down to grip the handle of her bat, lifting it from the small pool of blood that it rested in. It was obvious the thing had seen some action in its time. Dents littered the body up and down, each and every one with blood residue stuck inside of the crook. That alone was enough to make Eri turn his head away. He had never liked blood, and the events following up until now just seemed to reinforce this fear. Holding his bokken close Eri gave Chaeli a nod in return. With the two in agreement Chaeli reached up and pulled the pin from the safety position. "One... two... three!" Using her shoulder Chaeli shoved the door open, forcing it back against the wall behind it.
The couple of infected around turned to inspect the sound, but the only thing they would get to see was the glint of a steel bat heading right for them.
