Kinara smiled at Danny's antics. He was so cute! None of the kids she'd gone to school with had been this easygoing. Then again, none of them had burst into flame upon human contact, either.
As the tour got underway again, Kin kept darting glances at the boy out of the corner of her eye. The fire incident had made her curious. Obviously he couldn't control it perfectly, otherwise, he wouldn't have used it at all. Had it been her touch specifically that had set it off, or just random chance? She wondered...
And stopped, her entire body tensing. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up. Someone...somewhere...was watching them.
Hunting them.
The phrase came, unbidden, to her mind, and Kin looked up, face averted from the group. If anyone had looked into her green eyes right now, they would have seen a blaze of fury.
No one hunted her.
But there was no one in sight. She heard nothing, felt nothing except the fact that someone was watching them.
And then not. The feeling went away, and she thought, maybe, straining to hear, that she heard the click of high heels walking away. But the sound was so distant, and she knew she would never have heard it if she was not what she was.
A soft sigh escaped her lips. Schooling her face into a passive mask, she started forward again. The only things that betrayed her hidden emotions was the white-knuckled grip on her bow-case, and a smoldering anger in her eyes.
