Thrice waved a hand to greet Alfred. He hadn't seen him for most of the day and was beginning to wonder if he had struck a nerve with him earlier. Grabbing a clean glass from the dry rack, he would fill it with whiskey before sliding it down the bar top to his comrade.
'How's it been Al? Its been a wh-- what is that thing??' A perplexed look fell upon his face as his gaze met with the Drome egg sitting next to Al.
She had not had a cigarette in a while. She could stop whenever she wanted, a rarity apparently among people and nicotine. Self control was a big characteristic of hers, and she generally prided her in it. She nodded with a smile before hearing another man step into the bar, greeting them. Pivoting around in her seat, she looked over to him with a sheepish smile and waved.
It was odd how friendly the woman could be in certain situations, considering her profession.
Her eyes trailed over the large egg slung on 'Al's' back, her own head tilting in curiosity.
Thrice set a smoke down on the bar top in front of Alex, in case she decided to join him and walked out towards the door to light up. He couldn't help but eye the massive white egg resting next to his buddy, curiosity peaked as he had an affection for new life. His thoughts lingered on what could be inside such a large egg for a moment before his focus came to creating a small fire in his palm to light the tip of his carcinogenic habit.
'It's good to see people coming in here more frequently since the move to Commerce eh Al?'
Alex smiled brightly and plucked the cigarette from the counter, holding it between her middle and index finger, she slid out of her seat and moved lithely across the room, following Thrice and holding her hand out, "Light?" She spoke, her bright green eyes focusing on the fire that emitted from his naked palm.
People were odd.
Who was this man if he could conjure up fire in his hands? Maybe she'll find out someday.
His gaze shifted up from his lit smoke, to Alex as she moved to stand next to him at the door. With a simple nod, his cigarette perched between his teeth, he held his hand out in front of her. A simple spark shot from the center of his palm, igniting what appeared to be an invisible ball of fuel that hovered in his hand. He would hold it back at first as to allow her to room before it ignited and then lit the tip of her smoke. As quickly as it had been there it ignited with a fizzle as he let his arm drop to his side.
He pulled on the ember burning at the tip of his own cancer stick, exhaling the smoke through his nose.
'So what do you do that keeps you moving so much? I've seen all kinds so don't worry about shocking me.' He chuckled a bit, some ash falling from the tip of his cig as he did.
"Thanks again. This isn't a habit, but every now and then, it's nice."
She pulled the tip to her lips and inhaled, letting the smoke infiltrated her lungs. Her eyes closed before smoke exhaled from her nostrils, fogging up a subtle septum piercing. Sighing and opening her eyes, she focused on his, her gaze becoming rather blank. This would be the part where she'd have to make a few lies to some stranger. Folding her arms, she shrugged. "It's a form of relaxation. I get paranoid when I'm in the same spot for too long."
She spoke with a slight grimace, while being able to keep the mood light. Alex would have hated to mar the moment with some melancholy bull crap. At least she didn't lie. He seemed like a decent man, and she didn't want to lie, despite him being a stranger to her. She just would try her best not to touch on her chosen career.
Alfred laid a hand on the elliptical orb laying on the bar and pulled it closer, sliding it to rest in front and center.
"This? This my dear friend, is a White Drome egg. It's a very distant, warm blooded cousin to the extinct veloceraptor. I picked it up in my travels. I've been incubating it for quite some time now, and I believe it should be ready to hatch over the next few days. Up until now I've left it in my old scrap-heap in the woods, but now that I'm sure it would be safe here, and the day's approaching for the little guy to find his way out of the shell, I figured I'd move him to the lab. I would prefer to be around when it happens so I can be imprinted as his caretaker."
He stroked the outer shell gently and patted it twice. It was apparent Alfred had alot invested in the unhatched Drome, beyond any monetary value that could be placed. He had come to care very much for the unborn saurian within. An eagerness was reflected in his face that could rarely be seen in Alfred.
He smiled a bit, taking another drag from his smoke and shrugged. 'I understand if you're not trying to go into detail, nor would I ask you to say anything you don't want to.'
Thrice was great at reading people, and this girl seemed to be hiding something. Although what that was, he cared not. For the time being he had company for the first time in a few days, that wasn't trying to pummel him as practice for the HOH competitions. And in Makai's absence, he had grown to miss the friendly side of having women around.
He turned some to look over to Al as he was told about the history of the massive egg.
'You're gonna have a dinosaur!? HERE!? Oh no, I don't do reptiles man..' The thought of a four-hundred pound cheetah speed killing machine marching around through the Enclave did not suit his tastes at all. But seeing as Al was confident about being able to care for the creature he was somewhat at ease.
'Well, I tell you what..' he paused for a moment to take another drag, 'You can have it here, but if it even LOOKS at me funny.. I'll leave it to you to fill in the blanks, eh'
Alex appreciated his understanding and pressing her lips in a smirk before she moved her attention to the egg. She really didn't care about the inhabitants of some jet-reptile, in all aspects, if it didn't peck any piece of meat to death she'd probably like it. She took a few drags from her cigarette while leisurely letting the exhaled smoke pass her lips.
Her almond shaped eyes turned from the other man and peered around the room - she tended to observe a great deal.
"So...what is there to do around here? Skulking around bars tends to get...old.She inquired with a sly curl of her lips and another drag. "I wouldn't mind a tour."
"No worries! The Dromes are a highly patriarchal society. I've read several books about them and their behaviours before even considering taking one as a pet. They're highly patriarchal; Each Drome family unit consists of one or two lead Dromes, usually the mother and father, and three to four young. They tend to function in a pack mentality, and rarely do anything without first consulting the alphas of the group. Long as I'm there when it hatches, it will assume I'm the lead Drome and will take orders from me. At any rate, I'll be keeping it in the lab after it's born until it matures a bit so as to monitor it's behaviour in a bit more controlled environment."
Thrice nodded in approval. Al's go get it attitude and research ahead of time eased his nerves. It might be advantageous to have this Raptor roaming the grounds, might be a good guard dog, so to speak.
'Sounds good friend.' he reciprocates the thumbs up to his comrade before looking back to Alex.
'I'm not really feeling up to it at the moment, there is quite a bit to this place and some of the locales tend to take some time to get to. Maybe tomorrow?'
He finished his smoke and dropped the still burning butt into a coffee can just behind him.
'I've had a long day, myself, I'm gonna head to my place and get some sleep. If you need a place to crash just head to the back of the Enclave, there is a long flat building to the left of the Pit. Those are the barracks, feel free to shack up in there if you need.'
'Al! I'm out for the night brother, be easy!'
With that he waved to the two and headed for his quarters opposite the bar.
Alfred smiled warmly and turned to face the girl opposite him, getting up from his seat and gathering his things, carefully slinging the egg back over his shoulder.
"I'm afraid I share my counterpart's sentiment; I'm rather weary from my trip to into the forest to retrieve this little guy right here..."
He motioned with his free hand to the egg on his back.
"... I really should get him back to the lab and start working on an incubator, and I'm not afraid to say I'm rather interested in getting a bit of R&R before tomorro. It was nice to meet you-- Alex, was it? Feel free to explore a bit, if you like. I'm sure Kellen wouldn't mind too much. I'm sure we'll see each other around in the future."
Alfred smiled and turned to walk out the door, waving goodbye along the way.
Alex shrugged and waved, "Mmkay, sweet dreams."
She spoke with a pleasant smile and flicked the ash from her cigarette before taking another long drag. Dropping the butt to the ground, she crushed it beneath her boot and exhaled slowly as she nodded toward the other man with another wave of her hand, bidding him a good night.
She looked around the now empty bar. "Alex!?"
She spoke outloud, the name didn't seem to fit, but she had to use different names. She feared she was running out of names to use. Rolling her eyes, she rubbed her forehead. One day, she'd quit this business. But it was hard to see herself settling down. Thrice seemed like a man who has lived a hectic life and he still managed to have a real solid place to go back to. One day, maybe.
She approached the bar, grasped her bag and slung it over her shoulder. It wouldn't harm to go have some rest in the Barracks. 'Alex' dug into a side pocket in her bag and pulled out a few paper bills and placed it on the bar top for Thrice then turned her back and walked out in search of the Barracks.
Thrice moved about the space of his quarters up on the second floor. After a long day and a few drinks, he was not in the best shape. He had begun to smell a bit, although this was not too big of an issue for himself personally, but the other might not be as accepting of his odor. Especially since he was expecting Makai to be returning sometime soon, he hoped to be looking fresh for her arrival. Although the two had hardly spoken, it was interesting to him to see the effect she seemed to have on him. A warm yet cautious feeling would well up deep within his chest when he would see her approaching the gates, a feeling he had never felt before..
With that he would throw off his dirtied garments. Tossing them into a pile next to his bed before stepping into the shower and washing his body quite thoroughly.
