Don't turn your back

Upon reaching the street Telle howled loudly, announcing his arrival to his little brother. He was walking up to his door, still in wolf-form when he saw a human running down the street. He stopped in his tracks and his eyes widened like a deer in headlights. He crouched down, hoping she wouldn't see him. Humans didn't like wolves and who knew what they'd do if they saw one, especially this close to the houses.

The houses blended in with her surroundings as Amelia ran past. They became unclear, their forms twisting…She laughed, spreading her arms out wide. The night air crisp on her face. However, she was interrupted.
A figure, a little too strange and uncanny, caught her eye. She abruptly stopped, taking one further step forward to catch herself. From a first glance she thought it was a dog…no…
Wolf?
“That’s ridiculous Amelia…”

Ameilia shook her head, chuckling at herself, but she was frozen in place. It undeniably was not a dog…
She wearily crossed to the other side of the street and climbed a tree, once she settled herself about eight feet off the ground, she called out.

“Are you lost? Not that you can understand me, but wolves never get this close to houses…”
Amelia was a strange girl, always talking to inanimate objects…animals…wasn’t to good with people however.
This is weird…Amelia admitted to herself. She hoped no one would see this…
This will certainly bring something for others to discuss in school.
Amelia rolled her eyes, releasing a sigh.
“Well, I’m not leaving until you do so first…”

Don't turn your back

Lifting his eyes from the ground Telle saw the girl had climbed into a tree, was she afraid of him? He couldn't be sure, and it was too dark to see who the girl was, not that it mattered much, in his mind all humans hated wolves, and so it was not be a good thing to seen by one. Still crouched down he wondered whether he should run back to the forest or not. She'd seen him, yes, but would it be better to stay and hope she left or leave and risk her seeing his other pack members? She spoke to him, though, and it made him wonder if that meant she liked him. He had decided it would be better to stay, but then she said she wouldn't leave until he did. What am I supposed to now? he thought, blinking his yellow eyes. Maybe it would be best to stay anyway.

“Fine, have it your way.”

Amelia took out her sketch pad and some charcoal, drawing a few lines that began to take the basic shape of a wolf. She glanced up occasionally at the large animal on the doorstep, to get some details.
Amelia leaned back, relaxing a bit. She had a feeling that she would be here a while, considering the wolf appeared to be a statue now….not bad for her sketching however.

“I’m not lying, I won’t move.” Amelia’s left hand continued to move swiftly across the page although she looked up several times.

But you never want to loose.

Telle blinked once, what did she mean 'have it your way'? He squinted up at her, trying to figure out what she was doing. It took a while but he finally determined she was drawing... him. She kept looking from the paper to him, what else would she be drawing? Pulling his head back he considered running again, she didn't seem like the type to follow you into the forest and stab you with a pencil, but you never know. She said she wouldn't move. Oh, wonderful. he thought, looking up at her again. Still drawing away. "If she won't move, I won't move." he said to himself. He hadn't meant to say it out loud, and hoped she didn't hear him.

"If she won't move, I won't move."

Amelia stiffened, her eyes wide. From what she could tell, no one was outside other than herself. She hesitantly looked over to the doorstep and opened her mouth to speak, before being interrupted by her cell phone ringtone.
Amelia plummeted backwards, reaching for the branch which only cracked. She landed on her back. Her sketchbook coming down afterwards, on top of her. The noise echoed down the street. Amelia groaned and sat herself up, her hood falling back revealing her fiery red hair.

“Sh*t” she swore.

Telle jerked his head up as the girl fell out of the tree. She'd heard him. "s**t!" he yelled, running down an alley, not realizing that if she'd heard him say he wouldn't move she'd have heard that, too, an event that would probably cause her to have a heart attack. He hoped she wouldn't follow him, or, he was supposed to hope she wouldn't follow him. Something about her intrigued him. It was probably the closest he'd ever gotten to a human he realized suddenly. She didn't seem that bad... could he have been wrong about humans this whole time?

“Wait!”

Amelia pushed herself to her feet and began to run after the wolf, taking a sharp turn into the alleyway.
“Please stop running, I won’t hurt you. Honestly!”
What the hell! Well this is pure stupidity, I should just turn back now like a good girl…which I‘m not.

Amelia wasn’t quite sure exactly why she was chasing after a wolf…but she just couldn’t stop herself. It was true she wouldn’t hurt him, however, she was not aware of what he truly was.
“I have something for you!”
Amelia caught her breath, the ringing of the phone subsided.

Still runny, Telle noticed the girl was behind him. He knew he should be afraid, or angry... or anything except happy. His wolf instincts should be kicking in right now, telling him to run, but they weren't. Or maybe he just didn't notice them. Either way upon reaching the end of the alley he stopped, just as he rounded the corner, and turned to face the girl, seeing her her face for the first time.

Amelia placed her hands on her knees, panting as she was bent over.

"I knew wolves ran fast but sheesh! Seriously..."
Amelia ripped out the page of the creature and presented it before him.
"Well? What do you think? It's for you...not like you can take it…but anyways, here."
She placed the picture before the wolf, careful not to smudge the charcoal. She laughed at herself.
“Sorry if I scared you there, to be truthful, I thought you were rabid or something back there…seeing as you were on the streets…that‘s unusual. No offence or anything. You must think I‘m strange…I can‘t talk to humans, not easy for me…animals are much more perceptive. Yeah, I'm weird, huh? Name’s Amelia, but call me Grace…well…you can’t but-”
Amelia checked her cellphone, a grimace spreading across her face. She stuck out her tongue.
”And that was my mother who just called…caught me sneaking out, school starts soon too. School…hate that place…really. I should get going then, maybe I‘ll see you sometime?”
Amelia waved to the animal, smiling, before taking off.
Yup, I‘m bizarre.

Telle smiled as the girl tripped over her words. It was funny how she spoke to him as if he was human, though when he was human people didn't really talk to him like that. He leaned down as she put the picture before him. It was nice, and it did look a lot like him, surprising him since it was so dark out. He sniffed it carefully, inclined to thank her, but he remembered he was still a wolf. Damn... he thought sadly, looking back up at her. But all too soon she ran off. He frowned as he watched her run down the alley. "I hope I'll see you too." he said quietly, picking up the picture in his teeth and heading down the street to his house.
