Lady Mariana Brouquette

Deep in the woods that surrounded Evonnia, an old estate stood in solitude. The oddly placed, sprawling manor could easily have been as much as two hundred years old. Despite it's faded and dilapidated outer appearance, it was an impressive sight to behold. One would be surprised by the appearance of it, for it's architecture seemed overly grand for something that would be off in the woods and isolated. A large veranda surrounded the bottom floor, and for now, it was empty. A porch swing that seemed a slight bit newer creaked as it gently swayed with the summer breeze, just hinting at the life that the manor truly contained. Another clue would be the heavy drapes that shut out the green-filtered sunlight that was shining through the trees.
Four stories up, on the top floor, someone was stirring, as was her usual manner in the late afternoon. She shifted her brown hair back over one shoulder as she wandered back and forth in her room, looking to the massive bookshelves that lined the walls of her room, and the volumes that the shelves held. Lady Mariana had awoken later than she meant, and she was having trouble finding the book she was looking for. Her displeasure became obvious on her face, and when she heard a knock on her door, her expression became extremely annoyed. A few quick steps brought the woman to the heavy door, which she flung open easily. “What do you want?” She half snarled at the younger vampire who'd knocked. He jumped back slightly, but regained his composure, for the most part, as he looked up at the matriarch. “I just thought you should know....that when I went to check on Miss Josselynne, she wasn't in her room....I-i...I think she's gone into town again,” He stuttered out, taking another step back, expecting a rather unhappy reaction from the woman.
Mariana's face went blank for a moment, as if she was unsure of how exactly she wanted to react. “Now, my dear,” She started, a dark smile spreading on her lips. “Had I not told you to keep an eye on her? She's been wandering off too frequently, and has been getting very, very ill,” Her tone had a mother's concern, but the woman's expression was turning cruel. She snatched the vampire by his hair and pulled him downwards, angry orbs staring at him intensely. “The next time I tell you to watch her, you best not let her run off,” Mariana snarled, before letting him drop to the floor. Then, her door slammed shut.
The elder sat down in her large reading chair, sighing a bit, her eyes glancing to her window. Her adopted daughter had been more of a handful than ever in that last few months, and the immature vampire was becoming more and more reckless. Now, not only did she bring her meals back to the castle, but she was spending time in the sunlight. Just last week, Josselynne had stumbled back to the manor, and completely collapsed on the front porch. She'd laid there for three hours before anyone realized she was out there. The sun was especially toxic to the youngling, Lady Mariana was not entirely sure why, but that didn't mean the fact could be ignored. But, for now, all she could really do is wait for the girl to return home.
