A confident female wolf strode through the light, fluffy snow in strong bounds. She wasn't fully running, nor was she walking. It was more of a jog; allowing the fae to cover vast amount of land while using relatively little energy. She was constantly scouting for others; those of her pack who had survived, other loners, other packs... and, most of all; humans. They'd not returned since they'd spoiled the earth; and wouldn't return until next spring, most likely... but Rhea did not take chances. She did not let up in her scouting or alertness - lest she were to suffer the same fate as her parents and pack.

She paused a moment, ears forward, nose twitching in the cool air - her breath forming a mist just in front of her muzzle. The land was clear today; very cold, very crisp; but clear. The skies were a bright blue; no sign of cloud and thusly no fresh snowfall. What the Alphaess did fear, though; was the biting frost a bright clear night could bring. Still, it was high noon. Any amount of cloud cover could roll across during the afternoon.

Throwing her muzzle back, she let out a howl; her voice carrying over the still air; reaching to the far corners of her land. She was calling for any of her pack that might be close; and also to those wolves not of her pack. Padding over to a slight rise - snow covered fallen trees; she waited to hear a response. If there was one.

As the sun shone down on the landscape that had once been so very familiar, Mace heard Rhea's howl. He stopped what he was doing; currently trying to dig into the hard, semi-frozen earth underneath a tree. He'd seen a few mice get into the roots, but he couldn't quite figure out how he could get himself down there, too. Not only did he want to eat them, but it would be nice and warm underground, surely! He poked the end of his muzzle back into the small hole; wedging it in as his front claws scrabbled at the tree and ground next to it. His tail wagged furiously, though he couldn't let out much more than a muffled bark due to his muzzle being shoved into the base of the tree.

Mace blinked once or twice, before realising he'd kept the fae waiting long enough. With an irritated sigh, he removed his muzzle from the hole and marked it for later. As he raised his right-rear leg, he glanced around; tongue lolling out as he panted. His eyes were bright, having lost their puppy blue some time ago, the deep amber colour was coming through. Finishing the mark, he set off at a good pace; bounding over snowdrifts and frozen land as he made his way across the territory to Rhea.

Rhea hadn’t heard a response as yet, but she’d seen the tracks and scented the air. There were a couple of her pack around – clearly in the middle of something or simply making their way over without calling first. That was fine by her. She glanced around a little, and saw a rocky outcrop a few paces away. She’d have a far better vantage point from up there. The fae nodded, and leapt off the snow-covered fallen logs she’d kept sentry from, and began to make her way up the slight snow drift.

It took her only a few moments of well-timed jumps before she made it to the top; a good twelve feet off the ground with only a light dusting of snow. She took a while to sniff the air – the very slight breeze carrying news of creatures around on it. Satisfied, the Alpahess first sat, then lay down on the outcrop; her front paws dangling just over the edge. She remained alert and attentive; scouring the land for signs of movement.

Flint was strolling through the snow. His usual clove of mint in his mouth. He looked left and then right, something was off. He walked through a thicket of trees, his breath fogging up the area around him. He frowned. Again, he felt something was going wrong. He saw something he could remember, but only vaguely, in the snow.

The crystals gleamed and a indentation that was long, and had many ridges appeared in the snow. It looked fresh, it smelled odd, like something that was burned long ago. He felt he should Alert other wolves before he went on. A lone wolf cannot take down a deer. One of the chief rule of the pack.

He looked up at the sound of a howl. The Alfaess was calling tot eh pack. The mint panged at the sound his senses increased. Indeed something was wrong. He leapt off at high speed towards the howl and increased his usual pace. When Rhea called all wolves must come.

((Please make some feedback, sorry if it isn't that good...))
((It's alright, dont fret so much! 3nodding

It's "Alphaess" though, with the "ph" instead of the "f!" Also, "alert\" doesn't need the capital as it's in the middle of the sentence. smile ))
((Oh I didn't notice I did that. Hahaha.))

The Alphaess heard the snow crunching as paws approached at speed. Her ears twitched subtly and she shifted her gaze towards the sound; it was Flint. He nodded, and made a mental calculation. She could sense a sort of desperation in his run, and she pushed herself back into a sitting position; eyes and ears watching the male as he came closer. Her muzzle twitched as the scent of Mace reached her. One of the youngest in the pack; possibly the most foolish, to be fair. Rhea turned her head to look at the other wolf heading her way. Flint was closer, and faster; due to the size difference. She’d deal with Mace when he got here. If he hadn’t sunk into a snow drift first.

“Flint,” she greeted; her voice a low growl, sensing something was not quite right. “How are you? Have you seen something near the border?” she questioned; straight to the point. Whenever things were hard – and since their return, they had been; the fae found herself often quite blunt with the others. It was due to stress, and she knew it would fade along with the warmer months.

Flint nodded at the greeting. He paused to catch his breath, he dropped the mint into the snow in front of him and said, "I saw some strange tracks yonder by the west border. They were round and long, they had ridges like tiny mountains at the bottom rather than the typical paw pattern." Flint then picked up the mint and chewed it to reinstate the strong flavor. He panted a little before bowing. "My sincerest apologies Alphaess, I did not greet you very well. Oh and may I inquire whether or not if there was anything that went wrong on your end?"

He also heard young paws hitting the fresh white snow. A breeze sent the smell of a young wolf he knew as Mace. A young wolf he knew at the very birth of this particular mammal.

Kayko the Guard

Kayko walked through the snow, her ears flicked when she heard the howl and she ran off towards home. Her paws sunk in ever so often, making her have to dig herself out. As she ran, her fur mirrored the ripple of her muscles under it. Her tongue was hanging out by the time she reached the Alphaess. Her panting causing the cold air around her to crystallize and make the air fog around her muzzle. "what did you need ma'am?" She looked at the Alphaess, her eyes averted to look at her feet instead of her face.
