With each passing moment came more tension; Was someone or something trying to play with their minds? Perhaps their aim was to instill fear into the group. These thoughts were mere guesses, whatever Shiki had caught sound of could be anything. The first guess was obviously that whatever lurked within the woods belonged to Shai's army...but the question which remained was, was it a mere soldier, or...a Juuishi general...? Fubuki swallowed hard, her eyes scanning the trees despite the fact she could see nothing but leaves, yet her hopes drove her into believing she might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of any unnatural movement of some kind...
Just then, a few seconds after glancing around, Shiki turned to and shot a rather unnerving glare her way...but what really caught Fubuki off guard, were his words. "..What..?!" Wh-what was this all of a sudden?! The entire time after having revealed the truth to her Shiki's behavior was that of melancholy! So...why was he saying these things...? It was true she was upset with him, but...not enough to want to take his life! The fox boy continued to mock her while Veiya exhibited signs of a wild beast ready to go for the kill, causing Fubuki to freeze in place. "Th-that's not true!!" A cold chill ran down her spine as her heart began to pound, her breath growing heavy with utter confusion written all over her face. "S-Shiki...Veiya...Wh..what has gotten into you..!?"

Suddenly, the fox boy drew his bow and arrow, taking aim while continuing to mock her. Hearing about her family caused her to flinch and, for a moment, lowering her head as if unaffected by their threatening gestures. Could she have really done something back then...? Could she have changed the fates of a select villagers if she'd remained to fight? Fubuki bit her lip, her hands clenching tightly with the memory.
"Shes just a weak little human girl...if she wasn't so pathetic she may of even stopped me from killing her family back then."
They were the kind of words she wished never to hear again...such remarks reminded her of her father, who many times insulted her due to her lack of skill. Even if she was not as strong as her brothers physically, the fact that she never gave up should have been enough! Still...knowing she only managed to nick Nagato made her realize how much strength she really was lacking...but was was a human to do against a god?! It was then Fubuki also realized how little she had done since joining Kaito; very few times had she lifted her sword. Why? It was because she was afraid of dying. And her healing abilities...the last time she'd really used them was after meeting Kaito as well. Many were suffering, and yet...she was feeling as if she'd completely forgotten about them...how long had she been selfish like this?

Fubuki raised her head to look upon the two antrho's, biting the inside of her lip in hesitation of what to say first. What could she say...? A long pause followed after, then finally, she spoke. "...You're right..." she said, "I'm not strong, I can't do much of anything, much less against a higher Juuishi..." Just watching these two was making her uncomfortable, yet she continued. "I...even so, I want to do whatever is possible to help Kaito and those who are suffering..!" It was then she looked to the brown earth. Either the killing stares of Shiki and Veiya were getting to her, or she felt ashamed...perhaps the reason was both. "...I've done little to nothing since I started on my own...I was even afraid to life my weapon during the attack on Torcia because I feared death!"
Why was she saying these things now? Why in the world was she admitting her weaknesses? Was it because she never wanted to see herself as weak, or...did she just not want to admit it...? Once more she bit her lip, raising her head to look at the fox boy. "I...I don't even know if I could have done anything back then, but...even knowing the truth about your involvement, I never wished to raise my sword against you, Shiki! It's the truth!" Because she still had not decided whether or not to forgive him...Once more a crow's caw rang through the air, putting her more on edge than before. Her sword remained at her side, waiting to see if what the two would do...was she right to admit to her weakness? Even if she did, a big part of her didn't want to...

When will I ever find a place to call my home? Sadness and loneliness, a falcon in the sky...
When will I ever find a way to speak my heart, to someone who knows, what it is to be alone?

私の家を呼ぶとIが場所が見つける時? 悲しさおよび孤独, 空の隼...
Iが私の中心を話す方法を見つける時, 知っている誰かに, それがだけであることである何?
Kaen felt his body jolt at the sensation of Shai's hand thrusting into his body. He felt time slow as he fell to his knees, his blood falling to the ground as he fell from Shai's hand. A strange sense of relief came over him with the knowledge that he would at last have some measure of peace. Even at the cost of his own life he was glad to be done with fighting. Although being reminded of the reincarnation that all the gods go through quickly diminished his relief. "Reincarnation ... so i will never see her in whatever is beyond death ...." he whispered to himself.

Time returned, and he found his breathing was strained as he summoned the strength to talk. " I never wished for fathers death ... I ... I only wanted to protect him ... " He needed to support himself with left hand as his right clutched his sword, " If you knew this ... would happen ... why couldn't you change it? ... make the outcome different? Or is the god of time and fate ... as powerless to it ... as everyone else. " He tried to bring himself to his feet using his sword for support, but was only able to climb to a kneeling position.

" You could have told us all about this ... so long ago ... we ... we could have helped prevent this ... found some way to make ... the world a better ... place. Maybe ... asked father ... for some kind of .. help." He fell to the ground, a coughing fit shook through him as his blood pooled beneath him. " Hate ... maybe i did hate you ... but now ... i would say i pity you Shai ... "

He looked up at Kaito, still lying still, and reached out to him, " I'm sorry ... so sorry father ... I tried ... " His hand fell to the floor as he lay his head and darkness clouded his vision. Kaen felt fear and sadness for what would come next. Fear for who he might be in the next life, and what would befall the world and his companions. He hoped that they would succeed where he failed in trying to save Kaito, and that they would all survive.

His sadness came at the knowledge that he would never see the woman he loved ever again, or they child she bore for him. Never would he set eyes on the quiet little valley he had once called home so long ago. As the darkness overcame his vision and he felt the last breathe of life escape his body, he relented his emotions, his soul leaving his flesh to await the moment of its eventual rebirth.

XXXXXXXXXThe feeling in the air made her hackles stand on end. It was magic, she could smell it. The taste of it left a horrible sensation in the back of her throat, and she could feel herself involuntarily snarl. Oh, how she hated magic.

Except for his magic. Even when she saw how it could be deadly, it never bothered her, never made her fear him. But this... this feeling in the air made her sick. She was never given much of a chance to announce her concerns to anyone else, because in a moment she felt the world spin around her.

Her stomach rolled in her stomach. She couldn't focus, feeling like she was passing out-but-not-quite passing out. Barely holding the small contents of her stomach in place, she tried jerking her arms down to hold her stomach instinctively, but she quickly found they wouldn't move. Panic started to set in at the thought of not being able to move and the confusion of how she could become in this state without even being able to put up a fight. Her mind flickered to that horrible thing. Magic. She snarled, trying to focus in on her surroundings when she saw him. Freezing every muscle in her body like only a trained predator can her eye widened as the creature thrust the sword through Shiki and then to Fubuki as well. She felt the red drops splatter against her white fur, but she didn't really notice it. Her heart felt as though it stopped beating completely, skipping a beat in the worst possible way. Her pupil constricted and dilated quickly as her brain tried to comprehend what was happening in front of her.

The chains didn't budge as she strained against them, a howl of pure misery and hatred straining her vocal cords. The fur at her wrists were now colored pink as her wrists tore open but she didn't feel it. The part of her that was a separate section of her personae, but no less her clawed it's way at the entrance of it's metaphorical cave. The huge creature with snow white fur and coal black ears and tail, ruby red eye glowing with rage. It had lost everything once before and been unable to do anything but bury them all, waiting months and moths to extract her revenge.

It wouldn't happen again.

The beast raised it's hackles as Veiya did, inhaling deeply. Veiya followed suit.

They were not separate entities.

Veiya needed to stop fighting that part of her.

They needed to fight. Cut. Their duty. Their purpose. Their hunger.

Cut. No hesitation. She would destroy this thing that brought so much pain.

Blinking away the thing blurring her eye as quickly as it came she bit her tongue hard and concentrated. The fur from her elbows to her fingertips shrunk in, the bones snapping and reconstructing into something smaller. Human. Slipping them through the shackles, she focused her concentration on her feet instead and repeated the process. Once slipped free she dropped the half shifting focus, letting her bones snap and reform correctly for her current form. She hadn't become Mar of her pack by sitting on her a**. There was strength behind her.

In tiny moments she brought her attention to the thing that wormed its way behind their lines, and brought so much pain.

Snarling as she pushed off the ground and the tree behind her she launched herself at that thing. Her arms were aimed at its, hoping to tear them from their sockets, her jaw aimed for its throat. Even if the creatures in the darkness converged on her, if she could dispose of this thing that took everything from her, even the hope of saving those that were gone.

Ignoring the tears that flew from her eye behind her, all of her being focused on destroying this demon.

If she destroyed it, and fought the things... She could tend to Shiki.

Right?

He couldn't be dead.

He was a god now.

He can't die now.

She wouldn't let him.

~~Fubuki's Nightmare~~
Shiki just looked at Fubuki with disgust at her amendment to the already obvious. He spit on the ground in front of her. "Pathetic..." He lowered his bow un-notching the arrow as he scowled at her. "In the end humans only seek to destroy themselves and the things they fear you say now you'd never turn on me in truth in your heart your grip is firm around the hilt of your blade ready to strike me down. For revenge for self preservation....." He turned around floating in place looking to Veiya. "You know what though..." He quickly turned back around facing her drawing the arrow back and letting fry freely towards her heart. Shouting as loud as he could with his booming voice making the whole forest shake from the force.
"Animals can be just as fearful!!!" As the arrow whistled its way towards her a sudden thump and image blurred as a long scarf trailed behind him swaying in the wind. The tip sticking threw the other side as blood oozed out from the wound suddenly he collapsed on his knees. "Damnit.... Fubuki how many people have to die in your stead......" With that last out cry Kenshiki fell to his side as blood began to pool around him his eyes staring wide open towards Veiya and Shiki. Vieya only snarled as she drug her nails across the bark of a tree impatiently waiting.

"Stupid human first your family dies in your place and now that fool of a demon.... Grrrr you more of a blight on Fariesee then the Juuishi are." She started to step forward as Shiki placed his hand on her shoulder shaking his head no. "Come on lets just leave her not like she could ever come close to breaking us apart or harming either of us she is just a weak little girl after all pretending to play hero..." Veiya nodded and started to follow behind her floating mate making their way towards the vastness of the forest. The woods seem more unnaturally thick with foliage and plant life then before.
A single crow remained high on top the branches above Fubuki cawing out a mocking cry.

"Weak, Weak, Weak!"

It called out among the top of the trees as it took off into the air flying to another near by branch. Tilting and turning its head looking on at the little human with unnatural interest to the scene being played out before it.

~~Shiki's Nightmare~~
Shai stood there looking on as he tilted his head tapping the side of his mask no sign of emotion behind the masked god. "Curious.... it seems even now your trying to protect yourself form the truth my dear boy. Think about it the time you changed back when facing that idiot of a magician with Veiya you followed through allowing her to guide you back to your targets and successfully killed them." He raised a hand extend to him pointing at the bodies. "Any thoughts of after are no doubt your mind still trying to protect you from the deeds you commit and are still doing for me even now as "My" Shikigama. You are my tool after all... How cruel the shikigama in you does not simply consume this weaker side of your persona...."

All the trees in the forest seem to twitch and shift the branches becoming accusing hands as they pointed directly at the blood beneath his feet and Shiki. Despite the drop of a single bit of blood still dripping from the fox's drenched clothing the blood pool had seemed to settle around him as he stood in the center. His reflection clear and visible in the blood as the drop caused it to ripple every so often. His form twisted and grinning in his shikigami form just like it was behind him in the reflective mirror. Just as the one behind him began to talk so did the one in his reflection. "Just accept it this is who we are, who I truly am. Just accept it. Your nothing without me nothing!" The image from the mirror seem to crawl out just a bit affectionately wrapping its arms around Shiki embracing him in a hug. Resting its head on his shoulder. "I could take all this pain all this hurt away all you have to do my little fox is let go...."

It placed a gentle kiss on his cheek and caressed gently under his chin. The image in the blood spoke again. "Yes, once you've done it we can go and destroy more families more homes just like we did to Fubuki. Don't you remember the smell of death as you smell it now back then as the fires burned high that night." It started to cackle raising it hands up laughing maniacally as the image continued to ripple with each drop. However every few drops the image in the blood seem to shift from Shiki to a black figure shrouded in darkness. Large black wings behind it and glowing red eyes with horns and a sharp beak with rows of fangs. No matter what though it returned back to looking like Shiki.

The shikigama hanging on him whispered sweetly into Shiki's ear. "Only I love you, she never could have she was nothing but a sweet lie. Don't worry though I'll always be here apart of you forever...." It nuzzled into his neck as Nagato looked on his eyes filled with sadness despite the blackness and milky blindness to them. "No matter how you judged me for what I became at least I was never such a weak and pathetic creature as you were Shiki Septette. I at least embraced what I was and held on to the pride that I was once a god...."

~~Veiya's Nightmare~~

Kenshiki stood there laughing as hard as he could watching Veiya struggle to get free. As she broke free he only grinned wickedly as he stood there pointing one of his katana at her. "If only you followed your instincts at the start and stopped me then maybe.... " As she flew at him he was interrupted feeling her claws snag his left arm yowling out in pain as he stepped to the side feeling it ripped from his body. [********..... you b***h....." He cried out jumping back from her before she could take another strike at him so close to her. Only one arm now and a blade still firmly gripping the hilt of his blade. "Stupid b***h you don't get it do you even if you strike me down they won't come back your precious angel is already at the encampment no doubt a puppet for Shai. You've lost everything why even bother still fighting this lost war...." He laughed as he looked at Shiki grinning slyly. "Oh, you think there is still a chance for hope huh?" He spit on Shiki's corpse giving it a firm kick with his left boot. Continuing to do so knowing it would only infuriate the she wolf more so.

The poor fox boy laying there kicked over and over again defenselessly as he suddenly coughed out in pain waking up struggling to move. Coughing out in cried pains."S-stop..... p-please....." Kenshiki stopped as he looked down his missing arm seeming to slowly repair itself as bone marrow and bone began to reform slowly. Hanging lifelessly at his side with no muscles to guide it yet. He was curious as he looked down putting his heel on Shiki's throat. The little fox struggling to push it off as he gasped for air. His tails twitching and shifting as he fought with all his might. "Here I'll help. Help you with a quick death!." Using his one good arm and blade he quickly brought it along the foxs neck severing it cleaning as his head rolled lifelessly free as blood sprayed across Kenshiki's form. The demon licked it clean from his blade looking at Veiya. "Pitiful little she wolf you could of stopped me ya know. Or do you like the sight of blood as much as I do." He started to laugh again as the muscle started to reform and grow around the exposed bone. Kenshiki shifted his stance as he gave a firm kick of Shiki's head towards Veiya.

Blade raised high next to his head as his arm continued to reform and regenerate. In the reflection of the blade showed a different image of a shadowy form with deep crimson eyes. "Come on then b***h slay the demon and then run wild and free homeless and alone forever!" He firmly gripped the blade with his one hand as the creatures in the darkness howled and growled with ferocity at the demons words.

But, Can you keep your fear from controlling you?
No true face of its own...

~Just what am I...?~

Everything... everything made sense. Too much sense, much more than it should have. It had been nothing short of divine intervention that saved both him and Veiya when they he had been given that detestable order. The more he thought back on it, the more he realized that it was nothing short of impossible for him to defy that final order that he had been assigned. Even the fight afterwards, with Nagato, had been something right out of a dream. He should have died twice in nothing short of a few hours, but both times he had been miraculously saved by one of the Gods, and even one of their priestesses. Was she even real...? Were any of those fights even real?!

The denial tried to spread further within the tortured fox's thoughts, but realization slowly began to take over his frenzied doubts. No, he couldn't truly explain what had happened either of those times, especially that sudden light that had saved him from his fetters of servitude to Shai!

"B-But..." he stammered out, but he couldn't finish his sentence. Why... why hadn't his former Master simply taken away his rational side? Deep down, there was something inside of him that truly wanted to give up whatever sanity he had, letting that familiar inner presence take over his consciousness. He thought of Veiya, he thought of Kaen, he thought of Kaito... and finally Fubuki. He had never known whether or not she had truly forgiven him for his horrific actions before. But now... now she was dead. Hee would remain unforgiven.

The hands that pointed accusingly at him taunted him, even more so because he knew that they were pointing in the right directions. The guilty was standing there, in the midst of his own crime, with nothing left to separate him from madness. As if symbolizing that comforting madness, that nothingness that he wished to return to, the distorted mirror image showed him warmth. The pain truly would go away if he just let his thoughts slip... if just gave up the fight. Was it truly worth it... to go on? Hearing those recollections of his sins was more than enough to drive him over the edge. Without Veiya... without Veiya...! He loved her, he didn't care what any stupid Shikigami had to say about it! He didn't care-!

Wait....
Wait....!

A small spark erupted inside of Shiki's consciousness. A bright, unquenchable flame. Within moments, that one small bit of kindling had erupted into a wildfire, spreading through the Shikigami's thoughts. That flame... was hope.

Shiki's expression went from despairing to infuriated in the blink of an eye. This... this was all a lie! "Shikigami..." he growled angrily, his body trembling back to life as his tiny fists clenching. "Shikigami...!" He repeated, his anger stopping his breaths short until they came in short pants.

"Shikigami... are forbidden to love!"

Without bothering to hold himself back, Shiki shoved his fake copy away and drew his bow, having an arrow knocked before that other him could even hit the bloody ground. Even though his entire body shook with rage, the fox found himself wrapped in an aura of calm. This was a lie... this was all a lie! Shikigami were not allowed to love... and this imposter had broken that rule! No Shikigami could ever say that. It was a rule that he was all too well aware of.

"Who... who are you...?!" he growled, but his voice just didn't seem to fit the type. His voice was starting to even squeak a bit from the strain. "You're not a Shikigami... and neither am I! Now who are you?!" Fear still remained in the fox's trembling body as he held his bow, poised to let loose at any given moment. What still spooked him was the fact that if it wasn't for that little slip of the tongue... he would have given up. He would have abandoned his love, his friends, his life! And now, Shiki wanted to know who was responsible for this... and make them pay!

While the demon was taunting Veiya, he forgot the main law of combat that Veiya followed so dearly. In addition to that, he enfuriated a heartbroken werewolf, a Mar at that. Two things one should never, ever do in the middle of battle. She hesitated for just a moment when she heard Shiki speak, the spark of hope igniting.

It was quickly doused when Kenshiki beheaded him. Tears rekindled, the world blurred, but not with them. With the rage and fury only a beast could have she was on him. Since after all, a beast is what she was. That's what she always was. Knowing that rage always made her wonder if the humans had something small right in that battle, but now it simply embodied her. Before the demon could finish his kick, she was on him, fury and fangs. She could hardly hear the crow calling, anything but her desire to kill this creature feeling distant. For some reason, even in the middle of her anger, something tugged at the back of her mind.

Why did she hear a crow call?

                                                        Didn't the animals flee?

The questioning didn't last very long as she refocused on trying to destroy the demon, her eye on his sword as she tried to bite into his neck. She had nothing left, he made that very clear, but he must have forgotten when he became a demon that nothing fights stronger than one with nothing left to live for except revenge. The fact that his arm reformed itself enfuriated her as well. Magic. That disgusting, enfuriating thing. She understood some creatures needed it to live, and understood that, but using it in combat against a pristinely non-magic creature was low. Magic against magic, steel against steel. That's how, in her mind, the world should be.

                                                        Should have been.

After this, when she was finished with this, what was there to go back to? It was probably right. The war would be lost, and now she had nothing. She was alone.

The crow called again, and her ears stood tall on top of her head. Why did her brain keep trying to make her listen? The battle was here, not with the ridiculous bird...

No...you're wrong...! Fubuki thought, tightening the grip on the blade's hilt. If I really was set on getting revenge, I would have attempted to cut you down a long time ago! But deep within her thoughts, Shiki's words caused her to push things aside and think on them; Deep, deep down, part of her did wish to take revenge, and yet, she had continued to deny this. It was no lie she was upset and angry with him, but to allow her anger to overtake her and make the fruitless effort in taking his life? She knew better than to allow herself to take on such action! although...Shiki was right in regards to humans destroying things. Indeed they did create, but in many ends, they destroyed what they had created in battles and wars.

And before she knew it, the ground was shaking, but most of all, Shiki had once again drawn and, released, his arrow. Fubuki's eyes widened in horror with the scene that followed; Kenshiki's chest, pierced with the very arrow meant to take her life. Within moments, Kenshiki was laying in a pool of his own blood. Fubuki began to tremble. No...she never wanted this! She never asked nor wanted anyone to die for her! And Veiya's words only added to her guilt, causing Fubuki to bite her lip, her body trembling. As Shiki announced taking their leave Fubuki's head hung. She never intended on 'playing hero..' Indeed she would like to be a hero in saving Fariaee, but it was not like she expected to do anything worthy of the title! She knew very well she may die in the final battle, even more so between the next encountered Elite of Shai's army. Even if she was not recognized for her efforts, she could at least be content in knowing she tried to do what she thought was right! Did...did they really think she would just give up right then and there?! Even if she was weak, how could they expect her to throw everything away?!
These..were not the companions she knew...

Suddenly, out of nowhere within the silence came a single caw. A crow..? The moment the call reached her ears Fubuki looked swiftly in all directions, yet the echo of the voice made it difficult to pinpoint just where it had come from exactly. What struck Fubuki as peculiar, tho, was the 'words' spoken. The continuing mocking call began to irritate her, anger her. This...was this all the doing of Juuishi?! Fir Shiki and Veiya to change their loyalties so swiftly, for Kenshiki to die and not return as before...something was not right here...but being addressed as weak..!
Gritting her teeth, Fubuki sharply returned her gaze to the backs of 'Shiki' and 'Veiya', with a stern look in her eyes as she spoke with a raised tone. "You certainly fooled me, with you looks and bitter words.." she began, "..although some of what you've said may be true, I know for a fact that, the Shiki I know, would never act out against me on his own will, even despite the tension between us." After all, she'd yet to give him her answer regarding her forgiveness. "And tho I have exchanged few words to her, I know for a fact Veiya is anything but a beast." She was a beast, yes, but Fubuki's words were in regard to her nature as a person. While she did not know Veiya's standing opinion on her, Fubuki was certain she did not hate her. Now turning halfway, Fubuki's head slightly rose as she called into the trees. "Show yourself, demon!"

~~Shiki's Nightmare~~

The false Shikigami fell backwards cursing as he hit the ground with a thud. Around them the forest and the trees started to burn in a warm calming blue flame. Spreading from tree to tree as they started to resemble a normal forest once more still lacking leafs. Yet the flames themselves seem to form the missing leaves and foliage as they danced along the branches not burning them to ashes. Shai stood there hand on the side of his mask shaking his head in disappointment. The false Shikigami seem to shatter like glass along with the mirror behind Shiki right before the little fox. The three bodies of friends seem to sink into the pool of blood as the weight of Shiki's clothes began to lighten themselves. No longer carrying the heavy scent of blood or the weight the soaked and stained clothes brought on. "How tragic when you were so close being freed from your suffering, you pull back to this false hope." He gestured to the blue flames around them now as Nagato also dissolved away leaving only Shiki and Shai standing there in the forest.

"You poor thing, I could of taken away all your pain and suffering, but no like all other foolish creatures in this world you cling to a false hope." Shai slowly removed his mask tossing it out in front of him revealing his face as he ran his fingers through his hair. His face would be very familiar to the little fox as his kind eyes looked on at Shiki. "Hey, Shiki." Shai waved casually without his mask though he had the face of Kaito. Just as Shiki would remember to have been. "I'm sorry for all the deception I just thought it be easier on you to learn this way. I'm still not use to accepting this truth myself you see..." He started to walk forward closing the distance between him and the fox. "I just wanted to make this transition to you easier for you to understand. Sorry, it seems I failed at that." He gave a half-hearted smile to him as he stood a few feet away from Shiki a distance wouldn't even be traveled if the fox decided to let an arrow fly free into Kaito's chest.

~~Fubuki's Nightmare~~

The images of Veiya and Shiki seem to dissolve away as if they were phantoms all along. A mocking call came from the top of the trees. Flying down on black wings as feathers fell freely onto the ground from the path he had taken. Landed in front of Fubuki's feet cocking its head looking up at her a little crow with glowing crimson eyes looked up at her. The forest around them seem to echo with his distorted voice. "Terrible I've failed with another one, how amusing the human girl would be the most resistant to my tactics, no matter, even if you know I'm behind it I won't just let you leave this world behind." Suddenly, the crow's form began to shift and change before Fubuki's eyes into a familiar one of her father brandishing the same sword as his daughter in front of him. "Always a disappointment to the family aren't you?" Fubuki's father smiled in front of her as his eyes still held the crimson glow the crow normally had. "You think you can leave me to go run off and play with your friends? Fine! Come then strike your father down if you can even if you know I'm not the real thing is it so easy for you Fubuki....." The false father looked down at her with a judgmental glare.

~~Veiya's Nightmare~~

As Veiya landed on top of Kenshiki he laid there having dropped his sword as he fell backwards feeling her teeth sink into his neck. As he felt it began to sink in he couldn't help but grin at her as blood began to fill his lungs and his body went limp in underneath her. She had done it Kenshiki was dead and she had obtained her revenge. In the forest only Veiya remained as even the eyes around her seem to have disappeared in the midst of their fight only her and the bodies of the ones she loved and the murder who took them from her. The nameless one watched up from up high, waiting and enjoying his view of the she-wolfs despair. Yes, yes a little more and were there. He thought to himself. Now all he had to was wait for her to engulf herself in her own despair. He may be failing with the other two but this one would surely succumb to her fear and realization of emptiness of her own victory back alone again and wild animal.

But, Can you keep your fear from controlling you?
No true face of its own...

~Just what am I...?~

More illusions, it was always more illusions! A righteous fury filled the fox to the point of bursting, though he managed to keep his actions in check. He had the sinking feeling that as soon as he fired an arrow at something... the illusions would be broken. Who knew what he would be shooting at in reality? For all he knew, that could be an illusion placed on top of Veiya, of-

Veiya! His heart jumped at the thought of her... and sunk when he began to wonder what was happening to her right now. He prayed that she was okay, that she was making her way through this problem better than he was. Whoever this was obviously knew way too much about them, and it honestly scared Shiki to know that Veiya and Fubuki were likely being attacked as well.

Even when Shai took his mask off, Shiki didn't seem phased at the slightest. Those words reflected off of him like nothing, not even registering to the fox's deep thoughts. There was nothing that would stop him from tearing this nightmare apart and bringing him back to the real world, the one where he and Veiya could be together. The world where he could finally earn Fubuki's forgiveness, and the world that he had to save.

"I don't care what you have to say, demon. You're digging yourself further into a hole... your web of lies has been torn apart. Now... release them! I will undergo whatever test, whatever torture you wish, just as long as you free Veiya and Fubuki from whatever spell you have us under. So I dare you... I dare you to face me, and show me the worst of your powers!" Shiki never said he wouldn't fight back, though. He could only pray that this demonic entity would release Fubuki and Veiya before it was too late...!

Far far above the clouds, against the setting sun...A falcon flies alone, soaring in the wind.
I hear his lonely cry, so sad must he be...

Fubuki watched as the fakes of Shiki and Veiya began to disperse into nothing, but her attention was not drawn to them for long; from the sky fell feathers darker than night itself, and the owner f those feathers was...a crow? No, it was not an ordinary crow...this creature had eyes the color of blood, rather unnerving, really. She stared down at the little feathered creature as it cocked its head her way, that is, until a disturbing voice rang in the air. It was as if the forest itself was speaking with the range and direction of the voice. Even if Fubuki had seen through the demon's act, to say she was not afraid would be nothing short of a lie. swallowing hard, her eyes scanned the darkness of the trees as if awaiting something to approach from beyond the shadows as she listened to the distorted voice. What did it mean, failed another one...? Did this imply that Shiki and Veiya were experiencing events similar to herself at this moment? Did this demo mean to break them? Just who were they, really? Fubuki swallowed hard at the thought she was against an Elite, but what had her concerned even more, was doing battle with it. Should this occur, she would not last even a moment. As much as she wanted to deny her lack of strength, Fubuki knew all to well it was the truth. Still, whether it was an Elite or not, was still open to debate. And unfortunately, it had no intention of letting her escape.

It was then Fubuki found herself stepping back; Suddenly, the small creature began to take shape - a shape she wished not to see again for some time. Her father, the first and only person she truly despised for his verbal treatment towards her. Thinking back on her days back home caused her grip to tighten on the hilt of her katana. He never wanted a daughter...he...never really loved her mother! The only reason they married was because it had been arranged, to continue the name in his family, and thus produce heirs for that name. Even when having two sons, he was still dissatisfied with having a daughter. The man was a sexist b*****d, Fubuki had become convinced of this. Any affection shown towards her mother was seen as fake in her eyes, and it was from his resentment of her did this thought stem. Many times Fubuki had spoke ill of her father, yet...in the sincerest truth, she wanted to know...why did he hate her? Why he never wanted a daughter. The very reason she learned to hold a sword was to prove herself to him! To show him she was not as weak as he so ignorantly assumed her to be! Perhaps, what she really wanted, was for her father to show at least some love for her; to treat her as any father would his child.

Shaking her head, Fubuki's eyes narrowed at the demon, staring him back in the eyes as she spoke with bitterness in her tone. "You are a fool if you actually believe I am going to fall for the same trick twice..." she said, "The night Shai's army raided my village, my father remained to fight off his soldiers...yet I managed to escape, unknowing of his fate." A brief pause followed before she finished. "With the number of soldiers present, there is a good chance he was killed in battle..."
Her last few words were laced with a hint of possible sorrow...the sorrow in knowing she might never get the chance to ask her father why he felt the way he did about her...if he ever held even the smallest hint of love for her and her...and her mother.
Taking her sword into both hands, Fubuki shifted her body into a ready position, legs parted as she stood ready for him. Watching the demon, Fubuki withdrew into her thoughts for a very brief moment; if her father had indeed been killed, she could only imagine him watching her from the afterlife, mocking and belittling her like he always did. If this was indeed so, then she would use this opportunity to prove him wrong. Even if the image she was facing was a fake, it was that very image that awoke the desire to prove her strength. She may not be able to defeat this demon, but she sure as hell wasn't going down without a fight! "I see you have no intention of letting me leave unless I defeat you...very well, I will give your your fill of battle. Don't expect anything extraordinary, though."
With her sword firmly in place, Fubuki lunged forward, making the first move of the duel.

(OOC; Decided I would change the type of sword, for convenience's sake. >>; Still has the whole dragon motif and all, I just figured it would prove more efficient for her to wield a smaller, lighter sword.)

There was a long pause after Veiya had sunk her teeth into her enemy. Other than the occasional caw of the crow it was silent. After a moment she finally stood, her fur now soaked with blood as well as tears. She looked as though someone had splashed a large bucket of red paint onto her with how covered in gore she was. Even with the warm blood soaking through to her skin, she felt hallow. Turning back to Shiki she knelt, trying to hold his head back onto his body.

After all that, all that she tried to give up on being lonely it had been too little too late. Now more life was wasted, and they could never be together after all, even if there had been a chance of them winning the war. It seemed so petty, her worrying about the possibility of them being together when he became a god. Instead of focusing on her happiness, she focused on the struggle. That's always how things were with her. Now there wouldn't even be the chance for them to try. She was sure there was no chance of her having children again, but that hadn't mattered.

Veiya was just sick of being lonely.

She felt numb as she sat there and wept, holding the corpse that once belonged to the man she had fallen in love with. Now, like before, more graves would be dug. After the war was over, win or lose, she would come back to this spot and make a proper memorial for all of them.

The crow cawed again, and her ears flicked back in aggravation. The stupid beast just didn't give up. It sounded like laughter, as if the horrid thing was mocking her loss. Baring her teeth she looked up, and that was when it hit her.

How was it she got to that point, anyway? Why did she not remember anything before waking up tied to the tree? Before that there was nothing... just them walking. No blow to the back of the head. No tripping. Nothing. She knew she blamed magic for it, but what if there was more to it than that? It was a long shot, but with the hallow feeling in her chest and absolutely nothing in her world left to lose. What was the worst that could happen? Death was nothing she feared anymore. In fact, she would embrace it if this was reality.

See, there was fault in her attackers plot. When you take away all that someone has to live for, they no longer concern themselves with making sure they make it back alive. Veiya's only concern was testing her new theory. If it proved right, she vowed to never over worry things. If she was wrong, what difference was it? If she was wrong, she would be better off dead anyway.

Gently setting Shiki's body back down, she stood as she looked into the tree. Her snout scrunched up in a half-snarl, and she jumped into the tree. "Here, birdy birdy birdy. You should have run with your friends. Now there's more than the other baddies to deal with." Her eye was narrowed and focused. She may have been half mad, but at least she was still half sane.
