It seemed that Zachary's test of knowledge certainly made the girl fumble with her own ideas. He had put himself on a level playing field and regained some of the confidence that he had lost in those devilish eyes of hers.
Zach grinned"So you believe that love is only skin deep?" Zachary said before putting out and throwing the rest of his cigar out the window, he went through those things like copy paper. "Perhaps you should read into Plato's ideas of love; the ideas you can find in his philosophy may bring you into the light of understanding." He followed up with a chuckle. "Perhaps destiny has placed you here to learn what it truly means, if that is the case then I would be more than happy to enlighten you on what I know."
He brought it onto himself to lead his posse of knowledgeable piers elsewhere in the ballroom. He felt that it was becoming boring to stand around and spew his words out. A change in aesthetics would do the mind wonders, so he took it upon himself to lead the group out to the courtyard just outside the ballroom. The sun was gone for the night, but lanterns kept the outside as bright as the inside of the building. The courtyard was paved with slabs of stone to guide one through the decadent rose bushes. Everything was wide a spread out nicely; every now and again there was a wooden bench in front of the hall of rose bushes to sit and bask in the aroma and the scenery. Arches in the courtyard represented reaching the center of the courtyard where the fountain kept the air wafting with the sound of water dripping off of the ceramics and into the pool, like rain falling swiftly into a pond; it was all serene and peaceful.
Zachary turned his head to see if the lady with the sapphire hair continued to grace the crowd with her presence before sitting himself on the edge of the fountain. There were only a handful of other people left, approximately a half a dozen who decided to leave the estate into the courtyard with Zachary; he guessed the others were going to enjoy the festivities indoors before, or maybe they just didn't want to go out at night.
"Love, I can assure, is more than skin deep like you may believe, miss." Zachary announced as he turned his head to the water for a moment. "What you speak of is the lowest form of love; a cosmetic love, a lust without rationality. While these things are sought out by most beings, we need to remind ourselves that we are rational beings that long for more than just other beings. He turned back to his piers and shut his eyes while he adjusted the Cthulhu mask on his face before placing his eyes on the desirable demon with a smile, as if speaking directly to her.
"Humans love to love, but what is love? Love begins as an experience of lacking something; this lacking provokes thought and effort to find what it is that you lack. Love is to go from imperfection and ignorance and transform that longing into perfection and true knowledge.
"And the greater the thought, the greater the love. With love, human beings can ascend to to a higher state of perfection and being. We begin to see that love is already within us. . . we just have to start thinking about it.
"This brings us all back to your ideas of love and beauty; beauty is not skin deep either. Can you honestly say that beauty is only the physical aspects of a being? Have you never met a person with a beautiful heart? Beauty in their soul instead of their wrinkled skin or scarred body?
Zachary spoke with exponentially more passion as he continued on. His century old curse allowed for him to view things in a different perspective than anyone else. With only a week to find a worthy candidate, Zachary believed that philosophy would lead him to such a person. Sure, he may not find them today among the half dozen participants listening to him now, but there were plenty more days to sift through the members that swayed in and out of the estate in the days to come.
He was able to break eye contact for another moment to look back at the water. He felt as if he was hallucinating as he stared at his own reflection in the water. His eyes lost their pale sheen as the water revealed a ruby red glow in them. He blinked, and huffed the cool air, the reflection returned to normal.
"Such a view of love is among the level of opinions, it lacks any truth or beauty. . .do you agree?
