Vanessa walked down an empty street in the nice part of New York City alone, with a cell phone as her light. She was used to walking to her friends houses, seeing it was enough of a burden for them letting her stay, so as a punishment, or at least to make herself feel better, she would walk to their houses.
It was in the late hour, yet she wasn't afraid. That didn't stop her from jumping as her cell phone buzzed unexpectedly...
"HELLO?" She yelled as she stopped in the middle of the road.
Her face fell almost as soon as her cell phone had opened.
Apparently there was no vacancy where she was planning to go.
And with that, she turned on her heel and started walking in the opposite direction. She had to get to a main street to find a crappy motel. She could earn enough for one night, but not for months and months of rent. She started making her way down the quiet street and out into the main street.
She saw people walking down it, and cars whizzing by. It made her feel more at ease, because there was so much more noise and less quiet. She non-chalantly swung her tiny purse, giving blank looks to the people that walked by as she made her way toward the hopefully vacant motel.
