- Eli walked out of his school to his car, his only thought was 'maybe if I keep walking, they won't catch me'. He was skipping his last hour, the most useless class of the day he would have said if you asked him, and was heading directly for his small blue Prius. It was a small car, not very fast and didn't run very well, but it got him from school to home without much trouble and that's all he really cared about - reliability. Unlocking the doors with the key, he pulled open the door and slid into the drivers seat and stifled a yawn. He'd stayed up most of the night running his pent up energy out and had ended up spending most of his classes asleep.
"Come on, let's go home," he said to his car, his British accent making his t's and h's nearly silent. Sniffing and blinking his eyes a few times in an attempt to wake himself up, Eli stuck the key in the ignition and turned it. A blast of cool air hit his face as soon as the car started and another blast, this time of sound, hit him as his CD player began playing Muse. He'd been in the middle of listening to Stockholm Syndrome that morning, and so that was what was playing through his rattling speakers that vibrated the car due to the level the bass was turned up. He grinned, feeling more relaxed as Matt Bellamy's voice sang out the chorus at a - for a human - ear splitting level that Eli actually found quite comforting, and fitting for Muse. He'd have killed to go to a concert that year as they were on tour, but New Jersey wasn't exactly close to home, and other than that he didn't have the cash.
After a minute of letting the sound of the song sink into his skin, Eli thought about where he'd go. Home was out, nothing to do there but stare at the TV for a few hours before probably crashing out on the couch and waking up with a stick neck. Figuring he might as well hang out with someone from the pack, having been avoiding everyone for a while due to overexposure from hell, Eli pulled out his cell phone and went down the list of people. The only name on the list that didn't make him feel even slightly irritated, was Vincent's. Eli smirked, knowing exactly where Vincent would be as their passion for books was equal - if Eli's wasn't greater. Putting his car into reverse, Eli backed his Prius out of his parking spot and gave the school a right British farewell through his rear view mirror. It was funny how here in the US the sign for peace, was the equivalent of "flipping the bird" in Britain. Eli smirked for a second time, this time at the irony of it all.
Skipping the song, Eli 'rocked out' to Butterflies and Hurricanes as he directed his car towards the library. "Best, you've got to be the best. You've got to change the world, and use this chance to be heard. Your time is now," Eli sang in perfect tune with Matt Bellamy as his fingers tapped in time with the beat on the steering wheel. He almost wished he could just forget going to the library, forget going home, and just drive to New Jersey. But, alas, the Alpha would probably not be happy about an unscheduled vacation to Jersey. Not only that, but the concert he was wanting to go to wasn't even until May. Eli's eyes smiled as he sang at that thought, thinking maybe he could convince the Alpha to let him go by then, passing a slow poke and then going the actual speed limit the rest of his way to the library.
Once at the library Eli parked his car next to Vincent's, smiling at the fact that he'd been right. Even though he'd only been back in the States three years, he still found the pack strangely predictable. Being able to read their minds when phased also helped the matter. Eli checked his wallet for his library card as he got out of his Prius, locking the doors and stuffing the keys in his pocket. He had it, and nodded in satisfaction as he put his wallet back in his jeans and headed for the double doors that made up the entrance. Right out in the open, Vincent was sitting and reading a pretty thick book. Eli walked over and sat down silently, not saying anything as he didn't want to interrupt his friend.
