Adelline was surprised to hear a voice behind her and at first thought it was Christopher, but she was mistaken. It was a different man who had heard her playing. Adelline smiled at him. "Why thank you for that, I taught myself to play. " She turned a bit more and looked down at him, "We people of fire can have a calm heart as well you know." It appeared that no one else was around at the moment, it appeared as though they were completely alone on the grounds of a beautiful starlit castle.

Adelline sighed, "I'm sorry you will have to forgive me. This entire week has been pretty hard for me to swallow." Pocketing the flute she jumped down from the wall and landed gracefully on her feet.

He smiled up at her and said calmly, “And I do not doubt that.” His golden eyes looked up at the sky as he placed his hands in his pockets as he continued, “We of the Dark Kingdom know how to laugh and are not all dark and sinister.” He flipped his hair out of his yellow eyes so he could make some eye contact, “Stereotypes based on origins are hardly ever true.” He said it with a small shrug of his shoulders.

As she jumped down from the wall he felt slightly awkward. It was then that he realized that they were all alone. During broad day light it might not have made a different, but the darkness always changed things. James hoped she didn’t think he was trying to pull anything because of this. That would be a fabulous start to our stay here, huh? Be dubbed a flirt. He couldn’t deny it was a beautiful night though. There was hardly a cloud in the sky and the stars lit up the sky like thousand of candles.

He was snapped out of his thoughts as he heard Adelline continue. He returned her sigh with a sigh of his own, “It’s alright. You certainly aren’t the only one here like that.” James had never been great at comforting people, but he certainly did care about what the girl said, “We’ll all just have to make the most of our situation I suppose, otherwise it’s going to be a long year.

He leaned against the wall and his hair shone in the moonlight as he spoke softly a slither of hope in his voice and he offered her a small smile, “Maybe we’ll all luck out though and something good with come out of this arranged marriage nonsense. If not love, maybe friendships.” His golden eyes watched her carefully wondering how she would respond. He hardly knew anything about her other than playing the flute and being of the Fire Kingdom. Hardly the information needed to judge one’s reaction.

Watching him for a moment, it seemed as though he were the type of person who thought a lot, she was very good at reading people. Even if she was not, she would be able to tell, she liked to think as well. Mimicking him she looked up into the sky and smiled at his comments. For a while she didn't answer him, her thoughts were wandering. Thinking about the last things he had said. "Love... hm, come to think of it does anyone really know what it means anymore?"

Of course it was a rhetorical question that she asked so she continued on. "I really do wish we had come here on happier times. Part of the problem is the tension between all of us, we are all strangers to one another here. Well, besides our siblings." She shook her head and then cleared her throat. "I'm sorry, I didn't get to meet you in the dining hall. My name is Adelline Eris Hartnet." She extended a hand to him along with a warm smile.

He smiled in return and outstretched a cold, pale hand of his own. Her hand was pleasantly warm in his. He couldn’t be sure if that was because of her origin or if it was just that everything felt warm in relation to his own skin. It was times like this where he longed to know what it was like to be human so he could know the difference between hot and cold. Unfortunately that was impossible for him to ever experience that sensation. He was born a vampire and would die a vampire.

As he took her hand in his he turned his mind to less gloomy thoughts. He smiled warmly in return, but it was his eyes like always that really expressed his feelings. It could be a curse and gift at the same time. Currently it was on his side though since he was genuinely happy to meet her, “It is a pleasure to meet you Adelline. My name is James.” He brought her hand to his lips and lowered it again. If he was the sort to act shy he’d probably be blushing if he could. That was not the case though. So instead he straightened back up and asked, “So what brings you out on this fine night?” He eyes twinkled pleased to finally be talking to someone other than his sister. Rather pathetic he had talked to her more than anyone else so far.

((I have to go to bed now. I'll post as soon as I got home tomorrow though))

His hand was shockingly cold in hers, still it was quite pleasant to have something in her hands that was not burning hot. Oh but if he is James of the darkness then he must be the vampire... she thought though she was not quite sure. "It is very nice to meet you James." she said as he raised her hand to his lips, Oh he wouldn't... she felt a shiver run from her arm through her spine and straight into her stomach, making her cheeks grow warm with a blush.

Adelline was dazed by a moment from his actions then she shook herself and answered him. "Well, somehow I believe I believe that my betrothed is leaving this place. Though I am not quite sure." she shook her head. "I just don't want to dissappoint my family by not marrying, but what is a girl to do when placed in this kind of situation?" She looked up at the sky and then back down to him, the crickets around them had stopped chirping but those far away from them continued in song. It made the night seem less lonely. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be such a kill joy." Adelline said laughing.

Amerie nodded and held up 6 fingers. She frowned a bit and lowered one of them. She seemed upsed but she was trying her best to hide it

Because of the removal of a finger, however, he had to assume that it was probably the latter.
"Oh? I'm... I'm sorry," he said just in case his assumptions were true. "That's very sad," he added, trying to sound sympathetic, though in reality he couldn't imagine how she must truly be feeling. The loss of someone close to you must truly be a difficult thing, but in truth he really hadn't anyone that close to him; not even his parents who were often too busy with political dealings to spend time with him.
"I don't have any siblings..." he added a moment later, though wasn't quite sure why as he probably wasn't helping the situation, and he knew it. He was probably only making things worse and getting in the way-- again. That about him never seemed to change.
His eyes darted away briefly.

His face appeared as if he was deep in thought for a moment. He wanted to comfort her, but was unsure of how to go about it. Finally he offered a smile of comfort, "It's alright. You're actually holding up rather well given the situation. I'd probably have lost it by now." He sighed and continued on softly, "I know what you mean about not letting your family down. It is a lot of pressure on our soldiers. Nobody should have to go through this." James had been a strong believer of there being love out there growing up, but now the thought of arranged marriages had almost wiped out his hopes of ever finding love himself.

He considered her question then. It might have been meant to be rhetorical, but he felt like trying to help her, "I'm not sure what you can do about it. Your parents will probably just replace your fiance with someone else. They're sure to know by now your predicament." He felt slightly bad for whoever she was marrying's kingdom. He had chickened out and what that would do to his honor was unimaginable.

Adelline seemed like a kind person so far and she was definitely someone people could feel comfortable talking to. She seemed very down to Earth unlike how you'd expect some royals to be. He spoke out loud his next train of thought honestly, "If it makes you feel any better he is going to be missing out. Just from a few minutes of talking to you, I can tell you are an extraordinary young woman." He didn't care if it wasn't what acquaintances would usually tell each other, he simply hoped the truth made her feel better. His golden eyes reflected in the moonlight as his eyes looked into her crimson one, and a small smile never departed from his lips.

((Sorry for the delay. I'm going to the doctor's around 11:40, but will be home later.))

At each of his comments she nodded; what he said was completely true. The young man who had ran away from his destiny should be far from her thoughts, still she felt as though it were somehow her fault that he had left. This made her sigh sadly and look away. Though upon hearing his comment she blushed and laughed a bit. "Thank you, and I am sure that your spouse must be quite pleased with how things turned out for her." she felt a bit awkward saying this, as though she were cheating in some way. Technically she was not, she was still waiting for a spouse actually.

"From this meeting I can tell you are also a sweet and very kind gentleman." Again she looked up into his eyes, she could see the reflection of the moon in them, this made her smile a soft little smile that showed how happy she was that he had shown up. "Which reminds me... who is your spouse?" she asked curiously, wondering about what the paper had said about the rings being meant for true lovers alone. She still had the small box in a pocket on her dress.

He was pretty sure if he was human he'd be as red as a tomato right now. He was truly flattered by her compliment and smiled at her, "Why thank you, that means a lot to hear, from someone such as yourself." He was serious about that. His dead heart seemed to flutter when he thought of her words. It was an unfamiliar feeling to him and confused him greatly.

He knew just talking to her without supervision was wrong etiquette though. He had a fiance, after all. Sure for all he knew it could be a cyclops or some terrible creature, but a vampire wasn't one to talk. And yet he couldn't bring himself to act on proper behavior and go away. Something about her made him want to stay and get to know her more.

James suspected she had been dwelling on the same prospect when she mentioned fiances. He sighed and his eyes fell slightly, "I wish I had a clue." His hands were in his pockets as he looked down at her. He hadn't realized it, but they had gotten closer as they talked. Or maybe that was just him. He continued on softly because there was no need to shoat due to the silence surrounding them, "I received the ring, but evidently there was some problem with my engagement. So like you I haven't got a clue what to do yet." As he spoke he fingered the ring that was in his pocket. The box was light, but he knew the ring was in there.

She smiled at this comment. It was amazing how she had known of his existence for quite some time, since her father had brought it to her attention that there were other kingdoms outside of their own. Perhaps if I had only met him before all the arrangements were made things could have been different. There was no time to think about such things. Not now anyway, she simply had to wait for her new spouse to arrive.

"I am glad that I make you feel that way." she said just as soft as he had spoken. Even though she knew it shouldn't her heart was pounding now and she felt like the butterflies were going to eat a whole into her stomach. "I do wonder what became of your fiance though." She said looking down trying to hide her nervousness.

His signature half grin was created as she spoke. He was glad someone could make him feel this happy through the stress of an arranged marriage. The young man had gone from somewhat depressed to elated between the time of their voyage to this conversation. One thing that had come out of this was he had met Adelline. Hopefully they could be friends even after everyone went back home and their stay here was finished. That was assuming she wanted to.

The moonlight hit behind her and danced off her hair making it appear as if she had a halo behind her head. Adelline, an angel, was talking to a dark creature such as James. The world made truly no sense at the moment for him. She was truly stunning. He didn't think twice about the thought though. It was a fact, he wasn't just admiring a woman he wasn't betrothed to, right?

His ears picked up the sound of her heart beat pounding and he wondered if he had a heart if it would be doing the same. He frowned slightly as she hid her face looking down. Slowly he outstretched a hand and gently tilted her chin up. He felt the pulse of blood under his fingertip, but ignored it. Blood lust would not control him now. Looking into her crimson eyes he whispered, "You really shouldn't hide your face. It's by far too beautiful for that." His brain had not fully registered what he had said. He silently prayed he had not overstepped his boundaries.

Her heart pounded so hard it almost hurt when he tilted her chin up and spoke to her. Suddenly she felt as though nothing in the world could or should ruin this moment. He was not her betrothed and that was ok, since neither of them knew who was supposed to love who. Her mouth opened only once, only for her to close it again, finding that if she spoke she would probably lose the air remaining still in her lungs.

After a tense moment of staring at him however she had to say something, "Then I will not hide my face, James." she smiled up at him closing her eyes slightly, feeling a bit faint Saying those words had made her go pale and her heart kick into double time once more. "I am just so elated to have someone as amazing as you in my company tonight, even if it's just for tonight." she said realizing that the only thing they could ever be was friends, considering the fact that the marriage was arranged, not chosen.

His golden eyes gleamed in satisfaction as she said his name. There was something so much more significant about her saying it than anyone else before her. His happiness didn't last as Adelline reminded him of how their would company would only last tonight. If only they had met before this arrangement. Then maybe he would be able to have no regrets after tonight.

He sighed and used his thumb to move a loose strand of her hair behind her ear. The contact sent a tingling sensation through his thumb and left him craving for the same feeling again. He spoke his mind as he looked into her eyes. He didn't think he'd be able to look anywhere else, "I only wish we had met before this arrangement." He let out a small sigh as he continued just as softly, "I suppose one night of talking to you like this is better than none at all." Or was it? Would he ever be able to look at his betrothed and not recall how this one girl had sent tingles down his spine like no other before her. James longed to know what made Adelline different.
