Luca pulled on Aphaxad's reins, altering his course from the road and falling off to the shoulder and finally down the small slope behind Alicia and Arathasis. He spoke up when she said that she thought this was where they turned off. "I believe you are right, milady." He had said that, because he felt it strange to call one of royal blood by their name. That is always how it had been in Braegh.

He snapped the reins slightly, ushering Aphaxad to speed up enough to ride side by side with Alicia. "If I may, when we find your brothers, you intend on resurrecting them I know, but you could cause irrevocable damage to yourself. I do not know the ways of magic, but is no other way to use it? Perhaps there is a way to use it through something stronger, that can take the force." He thought for a second about what he could relate his theory to. "Like my sword for instance. I could kill with my hands, but using the sword allows me to fight without damaging myself," he said, trying to allow her to understand his train of thought.

Alicia thought deeply about that as her horse plodded through the woods. Luca had a point. She'd nearly killed herself with those past two resurrections. And although she didn't want to admit it, she was still fatigued from it, despite getting sleep. Her body needed time to heal before attempting magic of that magnitude again. "...I'm not sure," she said. "I was never taught anything about that in my lessons. But now that you mention it, perhaps there is something that can channel the power and handle it better than my own body." She paused. "Maybe not, though. I mean...resurrection is a big thing. Considering the amount of energy involved, it's no surprise it comes at such a big risk to the mage. Otherwise we'd see people getting revived left and right."

Luca nodded as she explained everything. He got caught deep in own thoughts for a moment. He thought that if he could cast resurrection magic, that perhaps he could help her but sadly his holy power was with fighting not healing. As they continued he didn't say another word, his mind trapped deep in thought. He couldn't let Alicia do this if it was going to harm her. He had to find another way.

They rode in silence for a while. Alicia thought the path they were taking looked familiar--she was almost positive that what remained of Nex's castle was somewhere ahead.

"Are you all right?" she asked Luca, looking over at him. The man was one of few words, it was true, but they seemed to have been carrying on a reasonably good conversation. He seemed deep in thought, as if concerned about something.

Luca, a bit taken back by her question, looked to her with confusion. "Why would you ask that?" he inquired for a moment, before answering her completely. "I am quite alright. I just think about what could happen to you when you resurrect your brothers." He looked back towards the path ahead of them, noticing just beyond them, the edge of the trees. In the massive clearing he could see the ruins of the castle.

"There it is!"
he exclaimed, pointed a gloved finger in the direction ahead of them. "It should not be long until we find them." Even as he spoke, the thoughts danced in his head like butterflies. How could he prevent her from the damage of these resurrections. Surely there had to be some way.

She raised an eyebrow at him. "I'll be fine. Even if something does happen to me..." She looked off in the distance. "It is better that I die so that my brothers might live. Dothan is the crown prince, after all. I'm...rather expendable." Her expression was solemn. She was set on doing this, even if it cost her her life. She loved her brothers dearly and would rather they survive to watch over the kingdom than she.

When Luca pointed, she looked over at the ruins grimly. They were not a happy sight. But at least all of those souls were now free. "Let's go," she said to her horse, urging him into a trot. "Keep on the lookout for them," she called to Luca, her eyes darting frantically around the landscape for any sign of the zombified princes. "I don't know how far they could have gotten."

He decided to put aside his worries until they found the princes now. He snapped his reins as well, urging the horse to move forward. He looked around for anything to move. He could see nothing that seemed to jump out at him directly. His eyes searching the ruins as well as the outlying area. "I don't see them anywhere," he called to her. "You don't suppose they would have left the ruins do you?"

"I don't know," she replied, alighting from off the horse and landing in a fine black powder that covered the earth. She kicked at it with her shoe, sending up a small cloud of it. Bending over, she pinched some between her fingers and held it up to look at it closely. "Is this...ash?" she asked Luca. Something was strange here. Other than the ash piled up on the ground, there were no signs of anything having been burnt. The castle, while collapsed, didn't seem to have suffered any fire damage. And where was Nex's army of corpses? Why weren't their bones littering the landscape?

"You don't think...this is what happened to Nex's army, do you?" She held up the pinch of ash in disgust, wondering if it really had once been the body of a zombie.

Luca dismounted from the horse, just as she asked that question. Surverying the land in the distance as well as Nex's castle, he solemnly said, "I hope it is not, but where are the corpses of his army?" Removing his helm, slinging it under one arm, he knelt and sifted his armed hand in the ash. It indeed looked like the ashes that remained after a burning of a dead body. Standing he took another look around before his blue eyes came to fall upon her again. "What if it is? Would your brother have turned to ash like this?" A thought then came to him, resulting in an addition to his statement. "Perhaps not though, for I did not become like this. They may still be out there somewhere. We must continue our search milady."

Alicia stiffened. "No...they couldn't have! That would be awful!" She looked around the landscape at the mounds of ash, which just made everything look even more desolate than it already was. "I hope, for their sake, that you're right..." she said. "Let's keep looking--oh?" A glimmer in the soot caught her eye, and she picked up a small gold object. "...This is Norwalk's ring," she choked in horror.
