Welcome to Gaia! ::

The deputy had thought the stranger was a fed. They'd come in, make demands, and expect the world to bow down to the all-mighty Washington. Not in this town. Then again, no badge, no uniform. Might just be some yahoo detective.

"You have the paperwork to back that up, partner", he asked with an impetuous smirk on his face, "You haven't even said what agency you're working for. No badge, no paperwork, no info. Looks like your walkin', 'cause we've got all the manpower we need working this case, and we don't need some amateur who don't know the local business thinking they can run the show around here."

About five feet from where Cole was standing, a door opened, and a middle-aged, man with a strong face, albeit a little past his prime, poked his head out.

"What's going on out there, Henry", he asked the deputy, who's name was apparently Henry.

"Just dealin' with some amateur gumshoe who thinks he can solve the murders."

"Well, don't be rude, Henry. Let the boy over", he smiled at Cole, with a twinkle in his eye, "nice to meet you, son. I'm the Sheriff."

Bridgette ignored Hectic's comment about the size of the team. She was used to operating alone.

"Gentlemen, our mission is simple. Rudolpho Vanderleigh, CEO and founder of Vanderleigh limited is poised to take over another American company, Robo-Gentech, weapons and cybernetics research company. This would not seem a problem, but, there is reason to believe that Rudolpho Vanderleigh is not only a vampire, but one with enough power and inclination to challenge our activities. Left unchecked, we could have another GL-0 on our hands."

She waited for reactions and possible questions.

((Alright. Have a good sleep, Neku.))
((Must run a couple errands. Be back in about an hour.))
Cole bristled, about to rip this pest of a deputy's head off. He hated idiots, and this one was not just an idiot but one with his head up his a**. Finally the sheriff walked in and he turned to the man. Taking his badge out of his pocket and showing it to the sheriff.
"I am Agent Cole Reed, from Section 8. I was sent here from Washington D.C." His eyes slid over to the deputy for a moment.
"I came here as a curtesy and to ask for your opinions on the recent murders as well to ask for the coroner's report as well as the case files."

((Alright. Bye.))
((Well, that took way longer than I thought it would...))
((*arches eyebrow* do i have to direct you to the OOC? now post!))

Lena rolled her eyes, "yeah yeah yeah. You go play with your toys. I'M going to the boiler room. Come find me when you're done fooling around."

She began to walk towards the hotel.
The sheriff looked Cole over.

"Sector 8? You with the IRS or the FBI? Well, whatever, come on into my office. We'd be happy to help, Washington with whatever they seem to be needin' help with", he said, walking back into his office and sitting down behind a large, but old wooden desk piled with paper and a little name plate that read "Sheriff Don White".

((Keep in mind that Sector 8's top secret))
//Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
//Come down from your fences, open the gate...

Evy scrunched up her nose but ran back up to her room anyway. She unlocked her computer and continued the installation of the program. Once it was finished, she retried the commands she had entered earlier. She blinked at the screen. "Oh frick..." She muttered.

After changing into more sensible shoes, Evy ran to the boiler room, stopping short when she saw Lena had just gotten to the entrance.

"Hey...uh...I found something behind that beep...thingy that interrupted the audio. There's a voice. Audible...but I can't make out any intelligible words." She informed Lena.

//It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
//You better let somebody love you...before it's too late...
((Dun worry i fully intend on lying))

"Actually we are an agency that works for homeland security." or close enough "Your cases here seem to be connected to an ongoing investigation with my department and I was sent to investigate." He walked behind the sheriff, standing in front of the desk.
"Most likely it is not connected but it is our policy to tie any and all loose ends, and investigate any and all leads." He glanced at the name plate and then back at the sheriff.
"I came here to ask you for your name and curtesy's sake. I do not desire to alienate you or your people in the investigation by having to go over and around your head for the information that I need."
((Kasumi, watch that. You just performed a large series of time-consuming gestures in the blink of an eye... I'll let it go, but please refrain in the future, alright?))

"What did you find", said Lena, genuinely amazed at how quickly the techie accomplished her tasks. But Lena was more than a little distracted. It seemed like something had indeed been moving around down there... She couldn't tell if it was a small dog or big rat. The tracks were strange.

"Wererats", she said, with an air of finality. Wererats were grotesque, often lived in old buildings, and were near undetectable, aiding their survival considerably... but they were usually more a nuisance, and harmless enough.
Don leaned back, at ease, "homeland security? Looks like these murders might just put little Cape Garis on the map, eh?"

He was joking, of course, "Well, you probably know as much as we do, then. Three dead passersby and an empty hotel."

He yawned, "yep, that's about all I kin say on the matter. I'm surprised you even need to ask, the way this town's been tittering about it."
//Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
//Come down from your fences, open the gate...

{{Eheh...my bad. I was a bit distracted at that moment and didn't realize what I was typing...sorry bout that.}}

Evy's eye twitched. She had read the manuals. Wererats weren't too dangerous. But anything with the word rat in it made her insides twist. Sure, mice, hamsters, and a few other rodents were cute, but rats were just something that made her want to vomit. Anyone who said that rats and mice were similar LIED. And wererats were even worse, at least in appearance.

"So...now what happens?" Evy asked Lena.

//It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
//You better let somebody love you...before it's too late...
"I still need to see the case files." he stated. "As well as the coroner's reports for all three victims. This is all standard procedure, as I am sure that you are aware of." He shifted from where he was standing.
"I intend to ask the townspeople as well. but they do not seem to enjoy the thought of having a goverment offical around." He made no mention of the trouble they had gotten from this office, or of the runaround his deputy had just tried to give him.

"Well, what did you hear, first? Like a lot of squeaking or something, or like scampering?"

She looked impatiently at the girl. Suddenly, there was a scuttling from somewhere in the darkness. The fire in the furnace began burning blue and roaring. Whatever it was in the dark was laughing. It was high-pitched and uncontrolled, like a music box off key, playing way too fast.

"Ok...", said Lena, crouching a bit, ready for anything, "that doesn't sound like a wererat..."
