Hello there! If you are reading this then you are obviously looking at my roleplay. Whether you are set on joining or not, well I cannot answer that. Hopefully you want to though. Anyways, welcome to Ephemeral Ecstasy! EE, is my baby. Really. With the amount of world building and work I put into this...I basically had a child okay? Don't judge me. This is a story of two contrasting worlds; one full of magic and adventure, the other of technology and betrayal. I created this roleplay with two certain themes in mind. Hope and Despair. This roleplay will capture various moods and feelings. Sometimes depression and sadness, other times happiness and love. I ask that you refrain from joining this if you believe work/school/or any other outside force will keep you from posting. I want this to last a while, and currently I have multiple episodes and arcs in mind. I have to thank Cindo, because without her...this would probably still be in the test forums. Well, enjoy yourselves and let the games begin! /shot

The year was 2024AD, and Earth hadn't changed much in the past decade. New York City was still the Big Apple, and Las Vegas remained widely known as Sin City. Even technology remained in a sense of stasis. Most humans were too busy indulging in their own selfish needs to bother advancing technology, and the only humans who did care didn't have enough funds to produce or even study anything of value.

Scientists sent one spaceship into the sky, and that was three years before. The team of astronauts came back only with dejected faces and empty hands. It seemed Mars was desolate of any life, but it could be inhabitable. Technology wasn't important anymore though as people took it for granted, college students texted their friends, asking when the next party was, and adults drove to work and whined about gas prices. Even children took their video games and television for granted. If only they all knew how important it really was.

The day was May 31st 2024 when all technology stopped. Cars sputtered and jolted to a halt, televisions flickered then dimmed to darkness, and even light bulbs flashed before all luminosity disappeared. All sources of electricity seemed to vanish into thin air. Then, in the night sky, a flash of light blinded any onlookers. A moment passed, then another, and as if on command, meteors fell from the sky. They plunged towards Earth's surface, and when they made contact…all hell broke loose. Cars exploded, buildings toppled, people turned into dust. The meteors rained onto Earth for three days, and the damage was tremendous, but it could be repaired. That was, until a new danger became evident, the core. It wasn't set to explode for another three million years, but with the strange extraterrestrial occurrences, something had set it off. Scientists predicted Earth's inhabitants had roughly ten years before their home would be nothing but ash.

In an act of futility, everyone panicked. Parents held their children close, and adults took out their life savings. Only one group of people thought rationally; anyone who knew anything about space.

A group of people banded together, their minds grabbing at any idea that seemed beneficial. For five years they worked on prototype space crafts, but nothing seemed to work. In five years all of humanity would be decimated. Only the smallest flicker of hope remained, and with it, that group of scientists saved the human race.

Not everyone could be saved though. Out of the seven billion people on Earth, only two million would make it. The group of scientists became known as the “Saviors”, and with the help of the world's governments, they managed to create space stations. Each station would be set on course for Mars, the only other inhabitable planet known to humans.

As the two space stations launched into space, the fortunate people witnessed the destruction of their planet. They watched as Earth became enveloped in hot lava, and before long their home was nothing but a pebble floating in space. The survival of humanity was in their hands. It was either rebuild or perish.

Upon their landing, the colonists all marveled at the sight. They were the first colonists to land on Mars. If Earth and their society remained intact, it would have appeared on the news worldwide. Everyone would have stopped and applauded, and Earth itself would be changed. History would have been made. Textbooks would have to be rewritten. Alas, the only type of welcoming the lone colonists received was the warm air of their new home. Rebuilding wasn't easy, but no one said it would be, but with enough diligence and hope, humanity persevered. Any able-bodied person was required to assist in the reconstruction of society. It would take years before life would return to normal, and they knew it, but human determination can do great things.

Five hundred years it took. The colonists rebuilt their 'home' in five hundred years, and science and technology flourished. Humans found a way to grow crops without Earth's soil, cancer was cured, and Mars became a utopia. Cities and towns developed, the most popular being Neo-New York City. Its skyscrapers gleamed in the sun, hovercrafts buzzed around, the hustle and bustle of the city returned. It seemed life was finally normal again.

But happiness only lasts so long.

A cold and vile man, L o r dALEXANDER›, saw an opportunity arise, and didn't hesitate to take it. With his silver tongue and impeccable charisma, L o r dALEXANDER› began gaining power. People listened to him, related to him, flocked to him. The man wanted power, and power was what he received. Ten years is all he needed, and in those years, he managed to overthrow the government and create his own. The shining utopia became nothing but a cold and fear filled dystopia. Anyone who didn't bow down to L o r dALEXANDER› were killed or enslaved. A caste system became absolute. The lower class was forced into the slums, while the noblemen lived lavishly without a care. Mars needed a hero.

                                A savior.

What if a parallel world existed? A land filled with magic, and only the creatures told in fairy tales. A world called Epsum.

Previously, the fantastical world faced nothing but prosperity and blessings. Magic flowed through their world’s core. Mages and Scholars huddled over their books, while warriors and guardsmen sipped ale at the taverns. Life was exceptional. The only real problems that arose were petty crimes and new species in the wilderness. Nothing could go wrong, and Epsum was in its prime.

The Ilista, a small race of elves known for their intelligence and study of magic, began inquiring about magic and its origins. Where did it come from? How did the inhabitants of their world inherit it? Questions, they had so many questions. With years of study, they finally pinned the origin of magic itself: Kalicite, a type of crystal with magical properties. It was believed that at the very end of their world, a Kalicite deposit would be found.

A group of Ilista set up an expedition, five elves would travel to the end of Epsum and return with a piece of Kalicite. In retrospect, the task seemed impossible, but somehow the team managed to return safely. The small piece of crystal shone a brilliant hue of blue. Almost as if a fairy resided inside, the crystal flickered, its color changing to a vibrant pink. This was a landmark for the history of Espum, and this tiny crystal, would change history forever.

Hundreds of years past, and Kalicite became a drug. By ingesting it, anyone with magical capabilities would have a tenfold increase in power. The downside? Kalicite was extremely addictive, and through extended usage, could drive a man insane. Not only that, it could also 'change' a person, their figures would warp, changing into a gruesome beast.

With a possible disaster on their hands, the Grand Council of Oron called to order. Two main concerns presented themselves; the Kalicite monsters known as Hellions, and the strange deficit of magic. In the recent months, magic itself had been fluctuating. One month it would be on the rise, and the next it would be rapidly decreasing. From the calculations, all magic would cease to exist in roughly three years. If the abuse of Kalicite continued, their world would be void of magic. In desperate need of help, the two largest kingdoms of Epsum agreed to solve the problem. They would move all remaining Kalicite to the kingdom of Illarie. It would be safe there, so long as the secret location was never spoken of.

The ten man team set off for the Kalicite deposit with high hopes. If they succeeded, they would be known as heroes! However, the perilous journey before them beset their hope, and only a spark remained. The first expedition wasn't nearly as arduous as the second, and the ten journeyers faced starvation, Hellions, and wild beasts. When the brave souls didn't return, that spark of hope extinguished.

The Grand Council convened, this time they would meticulously select the greatest team of men and woman.

These brave souls would be the final expedition.

"...citizens of Mars, I am here to make an announcement.

The face of L o r dALEXANDER› seized every possible communication device, his face flickered in the sky, the corners of his cheeks tugged into a warm grin. The cold and sadistic baron sat comfortably in his office, his fingers drumming a rhythm on his wooden desk. His secretary stood beside him, holding a cellphone in her left hand. Whatever the announcement was, it was of utmost importance.

I have decided to initiate a new protocol, Protocol 12. With the new protocol, comes new rules and regulations. Failure to comply with these will result in immediate exile or death.” He paused, the smile faded into something more sinister. “In three years exactly, any citizen not residing in the Royal, Knight, or Lord districts will be exiled to the Outer Orbit.

This man wanted to rid the world of vermin, and in his skewed mind the lower and middle class were vermin. How did you get rid of vermin? You exterminated them. L o r dALEXANDER›, paranoid and delusional, believed the lower classes were plotting against him. Protocol 12 was the 'Final Solution', with the rebels dispatched, L o r dALEXANDER› believed he would be in total control.

A curfew will be enforced, all transportation in and out of the Page and Slave district is to be ceased immediately. No citizen is allowed in, or out of said districts.” He winked at the camera, then snapped his fingers. The woman beside him took his seat and began reading a list of newly enforced rules, while L o r dALEXANDER› stood up a thin finger brushed the hair from his face. He smiled once more before exiting his office.

The shrill beeping of a HMS caused L o r dALEXANDER› to raise his brows, gently pushing the accept button, he waited for a hologram to manifest.

                                What are you calling for?

                                Protocol 13 is ready.

Good. We will commence in a year.

                                User Image

L o r dALEXANDER› had nearly total control over Mars. His eyes and ears were everywhere, always watching and listening for chatter of an uprising. There was however, one small town on the outskirts of Neo-New York, that homed a rebellion group. The Resistance they called themselves. Residing in an old weapon factory, the small group planned the overthrow of L o r dALEXANDER›. How they would achieve it hadn't been established yet. Ideas had been tossed around for months and the leader, C o d e n a m eANDROMEDA›, wasn't convinced.

Their hope began to dwindle, each plan they had executed failed.

C o d e n a m eANDROMEDA›, sat at her own metal desk. Her right hand man stood in front of her, his face sullen and eyes somber.

We lost Jupiter in the firefight last night. C o d e n a m eCORONA› gritted his teeth, traces of annoyance and sadness shown on his face.

The previous night a simple recon mission backfired, and The Resistance found themselves dodging a hailstorm of bullets. In the hysteria and panic their soldier, Jupiter, received a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Another member of The Resistance had been killed, and their numbers dwindled.

                                Find a replacement, we can't risk - C o d e n a m eANDROMEDA› was cut off by C o d e n a m eMETEOR›'s bursting into the room. Something showed on her face. Excitement? Hope? Joy? A mix of the three.

Boss! I have good news!” she stammered, struggling to keep her joy suppressed. “We found something! It's a strange rift in the Page district. We're not sure what it is, but it left me a ping on my tracker.

The Resistance had found something not yet discovered. A tear in the very fabric of space and time, a portal.

                                A portal to Epsum.

                                Meanwhile....

Two men and two woman faced the grand council, E l d e rANDERS› looked up from his podium. These brave men and adventurous women, would journey to the ends of the world. He knew deep down, that it was a nearly impossible task. There would be an insurmountable amount of danger, and it was unlikely they would all survive. With a sigh and a forlorn look, he spoke.

The four of you have been chosen. Of all Espum, the four of you are the most likely to succeed. Have you been told of your quest?” He asked giving the other five counselors a smile. “The four of you are to journey to Crystal Cave.

The four chosen ones gasped in unison. Utter shock filled their faces, and one of them closed his eyes.

That is an almost impossible journey High Counselor.” he retorted.

We know, but with the recent fall of magic, we need to preserve the Kalicite. Only one deposit remains, and it is your task to retrieve it.

Without warning a castle guard barreled through the doors, his breathing erratic and face flushed, crimson stained his steel armor. A moment passed before he spoke. “Malta, has declared war on Oron! They are assembling an army! We don- we don't have...much...time.” The guard coughed, and blood spattered the ground.

High Counselor, E l d e rANDERS› took in a breath, his face calm and collected. “You four! Go now. You know what you are tasked with. Oron will provide anything you need, tell them I sent you. GO NOW!

The four heroes retired from the council room, only a night remained before they departed for Crystal Cave. If they had any loose ends to tie up, it was then that they would do it.

                                User Image

E l d e rANDERS› slammed his hands against his hardwood desk. “War! Why would Malta declare war on us? We have done nothing wrong!

An elf, the third counselor spoke up, his voice shaky but confident. “Their king, Leonard, he wants all of the Kalicite. He has an addiction. In fact, he is beginning to change. We need to act now, our army isn't strong enough to take on theirs.

                                Send L e g e n d a r yOGRE to assist the four chosen.

But High Counselor!” With wide eyes and a fearful expression, the elf interjected.

I said....release it. It is time.

Two worlds would soon collide. A world of magic and a world of technology would soon discover there was more than one world.

And only one of them will remain.

On an ordinary day this wouldn't really pique her interest, however after looking at his records, she realized how much of an asset he would be for the Resistance. After congregating with her superior, the ordinary day turned into a jailbreak mission. The duo will travel to the arena, and participate in a two v. two death-match. What they don't realize is the arena still has some kinks left to be worked out. Inhale. One. Exhale. Two. Inhale. One. Exhale. Two.

'Note to self ... make these suits sweatproof.' Slowly, but surely, she was getting better at keeping herself collected. She had to. This assignment required the traits of stealth and precision, traits that she had not mastered so well and yet her life depended on it. Hell, she had barely pulled off faking her own death a couple of months ago and here she was going back to the scene of the crime. Here she was, home again, and even more side by side with her sister, Evelynn, and the infamous sleazeball Gavin. And now they were just minutes away from breaking into a heavily guarded prison to rescue him. Oh, how she hoped his health had not yet deteriorated too much or that he was not yet dead. The Resistance could use someone like him.

Pascaline closed her eyes for a split second and recollected how such an ordinary day turned into the exact opposite of ordinary.

                                                      -----------------------

"Mmmf... firewall, check. Checkpoints, filled. Green zone, clear. Security passwords... suuuper secure." Pascaline mumbled to herself between bites of her cherry and toffee muffin. As she leaned back in her seat, the reflection in her eyes showed that of all eight buzzing, dimly lit monitors. It was a June afternoon, and around this time of day Pascaline was just about to finish her routinely scan of the Resistance's entire computer and networking system. It was her responsibility to ensure no viruses, hackers, or any other unwanted and unnecessary pests had tracked their muddy paws into her programs. But of course -- how could they? She had set up and installed a software with multiple backup copies of one of history's most innovative and impenetrable security systems known to man. Such an accomplishment is one of her few pride and joys.

                                                      Oh, and so was hacking.

And Pascaline had found that hacking into one of her own databases was more than amusing. Although Alexander had thought he had rid of most of her software in his database, before her "death," Pascaline had installed a few hidden microchip bugs to ensure she could go unnoticed while easily regaining access to whatever program she needed to see. And of course, going through Alexander's files was all part of her routinely scan. "Oh, you have nothing new for me yet again Alexander?" She quietly said to herself, as she speedily clicked through the assortment of private files on her main screen. After four minutes of mumbling to herself, or more specifically, paraphrasing every text that came on screen, Pascaline's stomach began to grumble. 'Time to get more muffins.' She thought as she looked down on her now empty napkin, crumbs sprawled about her lap.

And then some thing appeared on the main screen that caught her full attention.

As her eyes widened more and more as she continued to scroll downwards, she could feel the pace of her heart beat with an increasing rhythm. She found, in herself, this thrill, this excitation, that rarely made its way into her heart unless she had discovered or created something new. After she had finally finished reading his files, she exited out of Alexander's database and shut all her monitors off. And then, she began to brainstorm through everything she had just discovered. Within this brainstorming appeared connections, that connected to bigger ideas that in turn became several specific ones. Yes, she could see how this could all play out. She could see how he could help them. She pressed a small green button on the right side of her head set and cleared her throat. "M'am! I-I have some exciting news for you. Please meet me in the lower deck in ten minutes. T-thank you." Pascaline could hardly contain her euphoria. The Resistance, hopefully, was about to become stronger than it already was.

                                                      -----------------------

Pascaline rubbed her palms together and softly pushed against her stomach in an attempt to subdue and hide her anxiousness from her comrades. The Lord District was as cold and eerie as ever. With a subtle gulp, she tugged on Evelynn's suit sleeve and looked up at her sister with deep, overly concerned blue eyes. "T-the percentage of us failing is 54.6% 'sis..." Pascaline whispered, hoping Gavin had not heard her. If only she was as euphoric as she was earlier in the day.

SHOW ME WHERE FOREVER DIES TAKE THE PATH THAT LEADS TO NOWHERE

Rhys counted five barugons, and three morithals all circling the only prey they were likely to come across in such a deserted wasteland. It was the pair’s own fault for wandering off and getting themselves lost in the ruins. Now they were going to be lunch. Well they would’ve been if Rhys didn’t recognize the animals for what they were. A goldmine just waiting for him to take advantage of it. There were people in Demorali who’d give their right arm for a barugon horn and sell their mother too for a vial of morithal venom.

He couldn’t help it. Greed was as much a part of being an assassin as the killing was. Already an entire plan was unfolding in his mind. Morithal’s had terrible eyesight in general, doubly so when the sun was out as it was now. They saw by the flickering of their many tongues lolling out of several gaping mouths all over their bodies; tasting the air around them but otherwise virtually blind. All the better for him. Taking a deep breath he closed his eyes and cranked his neck, allowing his muscles to loosen and relax as he felt the magical energy inside of him begin to pool at his center. While he hadn’t exactly followed in the footsteps of his parents magic wise, they had managed to teach him enough so that he might avoid their mistakes. Namely; getting caught.

While he wasn’t as magically inclined as some, he’d had years of training and learning how to use what gifts he did possess and utilizing them to their full potential. It had helped that the people teaching him hadn’t exactly been keen on playing fair with the rules. Exhaling the breath slowly he felt the current of energy run over his skin and resisted the urge to shiver as his skin crawled. To the other two with him, it wouldn’t look like he’d done more than breathe. The spell was meant to wrap him up in shadows and erase his presence after all. In broad daylight he’d have been better off wrapping the rays of the sun around him until he reflected the light and became invisible. But it wasn’t the princess and her stand-in father he was trying to kill. It was the near blind beasts before them that could no longer taste him on the air.

Twin blades were familiar in his grasp as he withdrew them from seemingly nowhere. Death black and wicked sharp, there was no warning to his attack as he was simply there one moment, and gone the next- a maniacal grin plastered across his face. It wasn’t a job, it wasn’t something he was being paid to do- he didn’t have to feel sick or guilty for ending these monster’s lives and so he fully intended on enjoying the every last second of the impending slaughter.

Laughter was a mad sound bubbling up in the back of his throat and as the hot blood of the youngest morithal sprayed over the ground after he slit its throat from its back. He couldn’t help the strangled sound of glee that escaped at the sight and the laugh was enough to shatter his already tenuous control on the spell masking his presence and he narrowly avoided losing his right arm to the tail that slammed down where he’d stood triumphantly only seconds ago after dismounting the felled corpse. While Rhys might not have been the strongest or most magically inclined of the trio- he had honed his body for years and knew how to work it to the very last drop of blood. And it showed in the way he dodged the furious swipes of the mother morithal with a fluidity and grace that seemed out of place given that death was currently snarling right there in his face and closing in fast.

Magic broken; he laughed whole-heartedly instead- a manic gleam in his eyes as he lunged towards the charging morithal, increasing his speed until he was running full force. Just as she reared up to attack, he slid underneath her; burying his blades in her to the hilt and digging twin trenches down the length of her underbelly- blood soaking him to the bone in an instant. He was a terrifying sight to behold as he rolled out from underneath the body- covered in blood and bruises but grinning like a madman; body shaking and eyes bright with excitement. Who needed kalicite when there was slaughter?

Between the male and his new companion, there was a void of silence. The boy had numerous chances to strike a conversation – but was uncertain if this was the right course of action. He tilted his head slowly to glance at the dark-haired female besides him. Even had he decided to speak, she exuded unwillingness or a lack of comprehension for socializing. The youth stifled a sigh. In an attempt to learn more he’d discreetly questioned both the elder, who had accompanied him, and the summoner – though neither of which was willing to budge on any information. He knew not to surprised, however. Neither seemed intent on delivering his words back to his father – one of the other councilmen.

“ Just .. Tell him I said thank you, Elder Anders. Please, ” he’d begged before the older male departed – leaving both him and the mysterious girl at the entrance of the darkened coliseum. Perhaps his father would think his son odd, for thanking him. The young male was grateful, nonetheless, that he was given the honor – as hopeless as their mission seemed.

Suddenly the boy’s attention was brought back to the present as an unmistakable growl resounded from inside the coliseum. It wasn’t loud, but deep. He was able to tell that whatever was making that sound was rather large. ‘ They were quick to release the ogre, ’ he thought quietly to himself.

“ The elder told me that your name was Aine, ” he spoke in a soft tone, removing his stare from the entrance to focus on the female before him.

“ I’m Khyber Faelon. The instructions are for you to defeat the ogre they released into the coliseum. I realize you were just summoned though, ” he paused for a moment, maintaining a quiet but tender voice. “ You don’t have to, if you don’t want to.

A second growl echoed, pulling his immediate attention back to the entrance. The young human male pulled out his sword, which glowed with a dull light at first, but brightened steadily as he took closer steps. A nervous tension surrounded Khyber, but his movements and expression suggested otherwise. His face was pacified – as though he were doing nothing more than taking a casual stroll around the garden. “ There’s more than one .. ” he concluded.

He turned to Aine once more. “ This is your decision. There might be more enemies than what I’d been informed, ” he said patiently. “ Do you want to fight regardless?

The elder had instructed that Khyber do nothing more than observe her progress – but if the dangers surpassed what the elder had told him; he wasn’t going to simply watch her.

Her instructions were clear. Simple. Aine knew what she had to do. Maintaining small talk with the boy beside her wasn't part of it. So, she remained silent and kept her gaze straight ahead, neither feeling the want or the need to assess her companion. He wasn't an enemy—the Elder had said she wouldn't be alone—but he wasn't a friend, either, and Aine wasn't going to waste time getting to know him unnecessarily. She'd paid no particular heed to the rest of the conversation, and instead, chose to survey her environment. How long had it been, exactly? Aine wasn't exactly sure—the passage of time was hard to keep track of without the sun—but she knew that she should take advantage of this situation. Make the most of it. After all, who's to say how long it'll be before she's allowed out, again?

Now, they stood outside the coliseum, the two of them, as a roar echoed from within the heavy doors. Aine steeled her gaze, feeling the anticipation well within her. Finally, she could hit something.

But first: "It is; you may call me that," she mused. Actually, Aine wasn't exactly sure when she'd gotten that name, but details didn't matter, "I am aware of the instructions given to me, thank you." Khyber Faelon. Aine committed the name to memory, since it'd be easier to recognize him as an ally if she could put a name to his face. "What I want doesn't matter. I'll complete the task given to me." Aine frowned; this was the only option, no?

Another growl interrupted her thoughts and she turned back to the entrance. "I was told to defeat the champion of the coliseum. The others are not my concern." she said, "If they get in my way, however, then they're as good as dead."

After adjusting the bracers on her arms, Aine entered the coliseum."You are to observe my performance, is that right, Khyber Faelon? But considering the circumstances, I believe it is within reason for you to refuse this task." A pause. "Your life is not my problem, and your death will not be on my head." With this, Aine turned her full attention to the champion she was to bring down.

The ogres—large and particularly hairy—stood in the middle of the coliseum, brandishing their huge clubs. Aine approached them cautiously, pulling at her blood, at her magic. The magic flowed, it came easily to her, and with that reassurance, she charged, rushing at the ogre closest to her. The beast saw her coming—she had many things, but speed wasn't one of them—and growled, swinging its club down at her. Her green eyes blazed and she raised her arm to meet the weapon, using the sigils already carved on her bracers to enhance her defense. Still, the ogre was strong, and the force of the impact made her clench her teeth.

Eyes flashing, Aine took a step back—out of the club's reach—and jumped, swinging her left hand—palm open—towards the ogre's face. A moment before she hit, Aine drew a blade from her palm, blood red in color with jagged edges, fully intending on shoving it through the monster's head. However, the ogre wasn't as stupid or slow as it looked, and it shifted before she could make contact. Instead of hitting the ogre through the head, her blade swept the ogre's neck, causing it to roar in fury and pain. She scowled. The cut wasn't deep enough to sever the monster's head, and her blade had broken after meeting the ogre's skin.

Before she leaped in for another attack, however, Aine glanced at the other ogres, glanced at where Khyber was, and, upon seeing the second of the two beasts aim a club at the male, fired the remnants of her blade at its eye, her blood shifting from a ruined hilt to a sharpened dagger.

Despite what she said, she had a feeling that the High Council would be extremely displeased with her should she let her ally die not two hours after being introduced to him.

She had seen no one around here for days. It was empty, and bleak, and… cold. Even with the rays of the sun to shine down upon them.

Ikrina flew over the First War Ruins, trying to get through them as fast as possible. Fying was much faster than walking, and she didn’t want to stay for longer than necessary. These ruins creeped her out.

This place is terrible. I hope I get to Oron soon.

A few hundred yards away, she saw a trio. It looked as if they were searching. Ikrina turned her head and shrieked, veering slightly off her course to follow them. It pleased her to see new people, especially in such a dark place as this. But what are you doing here?

They walked for a while, before a few hundred yards away she saw a couple surrounded by eight monsters. The trio was on a course for them, but Ikrina found a crumbling wall to perch upon. She was not one for fighting or hostilities, and it seemed like this trio could handle it. Ikrina also had not had a dose of her daily kalicite, and that made her feel weak and incapable. She hated how dependent she had become, but it was nearly impossible to stop.

So, she watched, and waited. It was not a show to her, just that she was afraid to help. The monsters were large in size and stature – she was not sure if she could handle them. Then again, if I join the others, I would not be fighting alone. And how desperately she wanted to meet these people, to know more other than those of the Sands.

Or… maybe she would rather not.

One man of the trio acted. The monsters seemed not to notice him at all, then, suddenly, he was there, sliding his blade across the throat of one of the smaller ones (Ikrina did not know their names; simply that there were three monsters with mouths and tongues across their bodies, and five more huge lizards with horns). He quickly killed one of the bigger ones as well, emerging from under its body red in form. Ikrina was startled; she jumped from her perch, screeching. Who were these people? The man was laughing! He was enjoying this slaughter… What is happening? What had she gotten herself into now?

The other two that came with him began to attack as well. The girl of the couple who she assumed they had been sent to rescue trembled, hanging onto the man. Her father maybe? Then, a horned lizard approached them, and she screamed. She tried to run – but another reptile blocked her path. The others were enraptured in their fighting; Ika wasn’t sure if they had noticed. But she did. I can’t just let her get killed!

She swooped down quickly – not as fast as she would have like, but with enough proficiency to distract the lizard. It roared, swiping its tail at her, spikes narrowly missing her right wing. Ikrina called out again. A vine snaked along the ground, before wrapping around the tail of the lizard. It tried to move it, but was limited due to the restraint. Ikrina acted quickly, coming down and attacking its eyes with her talons. The monster shook its head, trying to throw her off. It roared again, shocking her into changing form.

She landed on her side a few feet from the lizard, as she lost her balance from shifting. But maybe the teeth and claws of her new self would help her more. Ikrina noticed that the girl was running back to her father, but she tripped. She tried to run for her, but another lizard blocked her path.

Ikrina stood up and her hackles rose; she appeared larger than she actually was, but the monsters still towered over her by at least half a foot. There were now two with their sights honed on her. Her eyes shifted as she gazed upon her situation, but fear began to creep into her mind again. Before, she had acted purely on instinct – now that she’d had a chance to breathe, she actually realized what she was doing. But she could not stop now. She focused on more vines; they twisted around the first monster to constrain it, one extremely thick one wrapping around its neck tightly. It was losing air, and had been blinded by her.

Ikrina acted, running and jumping for the underside of its throat, teeth bared.

Anxiety ridden. That is exactly how Terru felt at the moment. She had not only okayed a mission that was, at the least, impossible but she had sent Pascaline, Evelynn and Gavin. Evelynn; reluctantly so. Chewing on her nails, a bad habit that mirrored her inner turmoil, she paced back and forth as she thought of all of the worst possible outcomes to the mission she had cleared for her friends. This was dangerous. If something went wrong, if some of the information was faulty, if they timed it incorrectly, it would be game over. Alexander would have them right in his hands. Pray… A voice at the back of her mind offered this weak and intangible suggestion. Halting in mid stride she straightened her back and let her hand fall to her side. Prayer was useless in this world. Those who strove to change the world could not afford to rely on the hope that some invisible higher power would save them. Especially after all of the hell she had seen. It was a disgusting concept to Terru. She was strong enough to rely on her own strength and thus she would never be reduced to prayer. Taking a deep breath she reached for a duffle bag that was tossed off to the side of her direct line of walkway. Slipping the strap over one shoulder, she unzipped the bag with one fluid motion to make sure she had her gear. Gloves, goggles, P.T band; all was ready. Off to the Hologram room. It was a suggestion from Tobias. Initially Terru was wary of this idea. She would rather be at the ready, waiting for her troops to return but after rationalizing with herself she realized the importance of testing out the Hologram room before the others. If something went wrong at least Terru could handle it. She didn’t want the others getting hurt in a trial run she could have worked out first. Tobias said the room was fine but he didn’t disagree with her reserves about testing it out. So off they went.

Strapping her sword carry on her back, the large weapon jutted out a good five inches over her head. Terru was not tall enough to pass it once it was strapped to her back. The sword hummed as it lay at rest. Twitching slightly as she adjusted to the feel of it, she slid her pistols into the holsters strapped around her thighs. She was more than ready now and itching for something to do; anything. She could not sit here and wait to hear the news anymore. She had to trust in her troops. They were just as skilled as she was and just as passionate about the cause. They would find this asset to the team and save them. That was the extent in her faith. Searching for Tobias she came to him directly to inform him she was ready to go. “I’m heading out now…” Letting her voice trail off at the end was a habit of hers. It was one of her forms of letting someone know she was giving them the opportunity to invite themselves or say something. In this case it was a chance for Tobias to say, ‘I’m ready to, let’s move out’ or something along those lines. Clearing her throat, a nervous habit of hers, she turned on her heel and stalked out of the room with about as much grace as a newborn calf. Terru never claimed she was the most coordinated person on the planet, much to Pascaline’s dismay. A fact she just affirmed as she banged her shoulder into the door way arch. Rubbing her shoulder she winced and exited the room, not looking back out of embarrassment.

Terru’s thoughts clouded her mind as she ventured to the Hologram arena. Her enhanced knight tech abilities were her only saving grace at this point in time; that and her knowledge against her brother. Sometimes she wondered if the group would need her if she didn’t have her abilities. Everyone hated Alexander with as much passion as she did. There was no reason for her to specifically be leading this project forward; other than the higher stakes she had hanging over her head. It was as interesting a concept to analyze as it was pathetic and self-pitying. No sooner had she thought these thoughts that she regretted doing so and attempted to busy her mind by going over some of the hologram instructions Pascaline had informed her about a few days ago.

Once she had reached the arena, Terru donned her small, cropped, fingerless floves and attatched the P.T device to her earlobe. It snapped together, sending a small jolt running up and down her spine. She hated the dratted device but needed it to communicate wirelessly. Laceing up her combat boots, she looked about for Tobias. Apparently he hadn't been ready. She could wait for him but she needed to do something. She was growing anxious again. Setting the level to two on two she took a deep breath and entered the playing field. Tobias could jump in whenever he wanted. This was just practice afterall. Not like she couldn't handle to meha's. Things in the plain white grounds began to shift and distort, images suddenly projected all along the room. It looked as if she had entered another location altogether. On edge, Terru reached behind her and pulled her sword out of it's sheath. The broad sword rested lightly in her grip, humming as it anticipated the exercise. Continuing to walk further into the room she was halted midstep by a whirring noise to her right. Bringing her weapon up and sucking the energy in the room around her to lace her blade with power, a thick, mechanical, limb clashed against her sword. It cried out, it's jubilation reaching it's highest point.

The weight of the mecha had caught her off guard, Terru digging her heel into the makeshift soil that this arena had produced, the weight of the mecha barring down on her. Gritting her teeth she let out a grunt and pushed the damned tech junk off of her. It spun mid air and rolled easily to it's feet. It's faceless shift watched her, the glow from it's ocipital lens's reflected Terru's serious expression back at her. Wasting no time she charged her foe, bringing her massive sword down on it. She aimed for a spot on it's shoulder, trying to cripple it piece by piece. It was a learned strategy and was usually effective....if she could land the blow. Unfortunately for Terru she was unable to catch the mecha off guard. Swinging at empty air, the mecha siezed the opportunity to pounce on her. Tensing her arms she followed through with her swing and ducked, letting gravity pull her down and her momentum swing her in a sort of pivot. The mecha landed with it's back facing her after missing and she struck out, running her blade from it's bottom to facial core. It cried out in that creepy mecha screech before splitting in two and dissolving into nothingless. Her sword glowed a dim orange color, the energy she was pulling from around her was warming it up. "This is too eas--." Before she could even utter the rest of the sentence the room began to crackle and pop. It was as if the system was malfunctioning, the reality not far off the mark, a second mecha appeared suddenly, Terru tensing in preperation to take it on but stopped short when another and another and another was produced in quick sucession. This was supposed to be a simple two on two. What the hell was going on? "System reboot." She tried, hopeing to restore the system by voice command. Nothing happened. Instead the mecha creatures around her began to mobilize, all of them with their sights set on her. "s**t..." Terru muttered, taking a small step back in order to keep them in front of her and within her peripherals. Where was Tobias and was it too much to hope for that he was on his way already?

“We will rescue your husband and daughter,” he had said brusquely as he strode away.

There was absolutely no way he was just going to sit back and let a family be destroyed. Not when there was something he could do about it.

                                “Let’s go.”

He did not look back, for he knew his companions would follow.

Eight monsters had surrounded the man and his daughter, foul creatures he had seen and battled before. Already his young male companion had charged in, felling the smallest of the foe and then fighting off what seemed to be its mother. If Rhaegon had not been distracted by the situation, he would have been made uneasy by that young man’s laughter, but there were more pressing matters at stake.

With Rhys having taken care of two, six were left, mostly still unaware of their new visitors. If he were alone with this number he would have immediately activated his ability TORRENT OF PAIN, which would have given him an ample opening for slaughter before the creatures recovered from the initial shock, but there were too many others that would also be affected. He would have to go about this the old-fashioned way.

In one swift motion he drew his katana to strike at one, wounding its back and capturing the attention of one nearby. They advanced on him, throwing their heads back and snarling. On instinct he roared back in return, and the fight began. He acted methodically, dodging when they lunged with their claws and jaws, and slashing during the openings when they missed and jumped passed him. All the while he kept an eye out for the others, especially for his ward, and for the little girl.

So when that child screamed, his heart seemed to drop with apprehension. The monsters were frightening her; she was running away, she was in danger! He needed to reach her, but these damn monsters were in the way. With a well-timed strike he finished off one, but the other was still lively, and impeding his progress. Unable to get to her, he could only watch, agonized, as a monster poised to strike at her.

Suddenly, a harpy eagle swooped down to claw at the attacking monster. An ally? It struck him as odd, a creature fighting other creatures. Then, it shifted, and he knew. A Druid. He would have dwelled longer on the topic—wondered who it was and why it was there fighting with them—if he had not seen the little girl fall into danger again. No, he was not going to let her die!

With a powerful strike he hacked into the throat of the incoming creature to end it for good, blood gushing out like a waterfall and spraying him thoroughly. Now free, he could run for the child. But there was also Nerys, fighting beside him—he could not just leave her on the outskirts unprotected. In the three seconds he spent going through his options, he came up with but one conclusion.

So he turned, sheathed his katana, grabbed her by the waist, slung her over his shoulder so that she was upside-down and backwards but still had her arms free for casting with her rod, and charged in head first for the child. He just hoped Rys wouldn’t be too angry afterwards, but he reasoned that the end justified the means.

With his other arm he scooped up the child and then ran to her father. “Hold on tightly to her!” he said, almost growled, as he set her down at his feet. Carefully he let his other cargo down as well, and at once drew his katana once more. This battle was irritating him; he needed to end it quickly. Activating SACRIFICIAL FRENZY, his katana began to glow with a deep blue light. The usage of his life force mattered not to him—it was not as though he had much to live for anyway. He would protect his companions and the innocent no matter the cost, and make those remaining beasts regret they ever came into existence.
