The noises outside made very little noise seeing as everything was dead now. Barely any sound could be heard in the dark living room where her family used to reside. The floor was stained with blood and tears that had been shed the hour or two before. Footsteps could finally be heard. They came from the stairs where Bethany, a nineteen year old eased her way downstairs. She made a quick glance at her lifeless family and quickly turned to the hall by the stairs that led to the outside world.

Bethany sighed walking down the rest of the hallway, she clenched her hand where her mothers necklace rested. She slid it on and opened the door seeing a clear path. Beth kept walking weaponless, she finally arrived at another house that had a baseball bat which she took almost right away. She turned and began her journey once again to find a new life.

James awoke to an unfamiliar sound. It was human, it seemed, but the heavy, slow scraping walk burst alarm bells into his dream and roused him immediately. It wasn't the careful footfalls of a security guard or officer trying to sneak silently up to him, and it wasn't the oblivious steps of a cleaner that came toward him.

He unfolded carefully and looked out from where he had wedged himself behind a stack of unused trestle tables and his heart stopped cold. The.. Well, it was a human, but the thing that walked toward him was dragging the remains of a leg behind them, looking more like a land-mine victim than a living being. There was no way somebody could survive injuries so horrific. The man's throat. Oh god. It was wide open, James could see the muscles flex as the thing rattled a low moan from it's chest that turned into an airy rasp as it flowed from the gaping wound.

It was a dream, surely. But that didn't stop James leaping to his feet, and barrelling his way past whatever it was that was coming for him. He slipped for a moment on the blood that slicked the cheap linoleum.

Until that moment, he had always considered himself to be a charitable man, helping those in need. But right now, damn. Right now, there was no way he was going to hang around.

Jayani Mora

As Jayani drove, she flicked through the radio stations. Most of them were static, except for the emergency broadcast. It seemed to be on repeat telling everyone to stay indoors until help arrived. She couldn't help but laugh. "There is no one coming. If they were, they would have been here already. They're more than likely dead...ish.." Shaking her head, she turned the radio off. Slowly driving around wrecked cars was a pain, but what else could she do? It wasn't like the SUV was a tank or something. She knew soon enough that she would more than likely have to ditch the car. She was sure that there would be roads filled with cars, and Jayani certainly did not look forward to that moment.

As she turned onto another street littered with the dead, she noticed a girl walking along the road, bat held in hand. Jayani slow the car, and came up beside the girl. She roll the window down, only a small amount. She had seen the Undead walk with items that they had died with in their hands and she wanted to be more than careful. "Hey... Are you alright? Are you by yourself? ... Are you bitten?" Shesaid as she leaned toward the passenger window to look down at this girl and added "Are you bitten?" She hated it, but she had to ask...

Beth kept walking, from what? she didn't have the slightest clue. All she knew was that they bit, scratched and screeched, that was a good enough reason to run. She slung the bat over her shoulder like a baseball player would, and she continued to walk. She didn't know where she would go exactly, but where took her in is where her alliance would stand. Her knees were still weak from what she had just done, and her mind was still blank, the only thing she was aware of was that she was walking, and she still didn't know where she was walking.

Eventually a car appeared almost out of nowhere, or so it seemed. The woman asked "Are you alright? Are you by yourself? ... Are you bitten?" Bitten....the word she hated most. Beth put the baseball bat down quickly and checked herself. Even she was unsure of being bitten or scratched. She didn't see anything from her current position, her clothes barely had any rips in them, that was a high chance of survival. She turned to the woman in the SUV and nodded. "I am alone, and I have not been bitten yet" She said trying not to freak her out too much. Beth had a soft British accent that was as if she had been British her whole life. She thanked her English teacher and cousins for it.

"What about you? Are you injured or anything?" She asked quickly picking her bat up incase a random walker appeared.

Jayani watch the girl as she examined herself, her eyes darting occasionally to check for those things. "Good." She sigh in relief and shook her head. "I am not.. Listen.." She noticed the girl was smart, watching her surroundings. Jayani spoke quickly "Listen, I'm going to get out of this town.. Look for somewhere safe. If you want, you can come with me. We'll be safer in numbers... I know that we don't know each other... But that Idea makes sense... Especially now.." She pushed the button to unlock the door. "You don't have to, but.. Well... I wouldn't feel right leaving you by yourself..."

She glanced in the rear view mirror, and saw what could have been more that two dozen of them. They walking across the street that she had turned from, but noticed the tail lights from the car, and began to move toward it. "Make your decision quick, hun." She said as she motioned behind them....

Screeches could be heard and then Jayani warning Beth to get in. So she did she almost literally jumped in scared to death for her life. She looked back and they were closer than thirty seconds ago. She shut the door and rolled the window up. "So where do you plan on going?" she asked casually putting her bat between her legs in case she needed it. She relaxed a little and planned to keep it that way seeing as she was almost never calm.

In fact she was normally a very happy hyper person who never gave a crap about the world. But seeing the world end before her eyes was a whole new experience for her. I meant there was a reason to live.

As soon as the girl was in the SUV, Jayani began to drive away from the...Group? Heard? Flock?... Well, it didn't matter. Jayani listen to the question asked, and took a moment to think about what she was going to say. "Well... At the moment? Just out of this town. At least that much. Not thinking in long term, you know? Seems pointless with those..." She pause thinking back to her friend that she'd killed. "..Things. The only long term is to stay alive." She shook her head at how ridiculous that sounded. Staying alive? More like fighting to live.

She held her breath for a moment, watching the road, then said "My name is Jayani... some people call me Jay. It's crazy out there... I can tell you've seen your fair share of that. I don't know where I'm going... I doubt that any city is safe.." She wished she didn't have to say that, it scared the hell out of her just thinking about that. Was it really that way? God... She hoped not. "If you'd like, you can stay with me as long as you like. I know how to handle myself.." She hoped the girl understood what she meant.

Jayani slow the car down maneuver through some cars, although they were to close together, so she ended up pushing through them, the squeal of metal against metal was horrible, and it echoed it the terrible silence. "Sorry 'bout that.." She said aloud.

Marcus 'Zeke' Kinkade

zeke sat there looking out the front window as hank pulled his shotgun to the otherside of himself. Nodding as he told him he didn't neeb anything he smirked. "Well thanks for that." He told him, looking around as they drove, this place really was going to hell. "How did al this happen?" he asked no one in particular. "Zombies are just something out of a movie or video game." He muttered lowly. He watched as they passed up many walkers harmlessly. "No I ain't bit." He responded when asked.

"Name's Marcus Kinkade, but everyone calls me zeke for some reason...or used to I guess." He spoke in referrence that everybody that did call him that was probably dead.

Hank nodded, "Good to meet you. I'm Hank. That back there is my sister Maya. Glad you're alright." Zeke's question was a good one. How did this happen? His mind raced. A terrorist attack? Some kind of experiment gone wrong? God? He shook the thoughts off. He was glad he hadn't been out of the service enough to forget his training. Just like in war, there was no time, no use in wondering why. Even though the question burned inside of him. "I don't know how. I don't know why. Gotta concentrate on how we're getting out of this for now. DC, the northern part of the state, I'm sure they're gone by now. Let's just head south for the time being. We have to put distance between us and the city" He gazed out of the window as they followed the horse. A building burned in the back drop. There were no more aircraft in the sky. Smoke, and the distant sounds of gun fire were all that were left of downtown Richmond in the rear view. He was hit with a wave of desperation, shook it off, there would be time for that later. There was a gas station, a man in a pilot uniform was dangling by a parachute from it. Seemingly unharmed. There was only one walker he could see, it was behind a fence. "I bet that guy knows something." He said, his voice bitter and angry as he said it. Pulling up to the sign he parked the truck underneath it.

Looking around he turned to the group. "Stay here. Maya take the truck if this doesn't go like I plan it to." Stepping out made him nervous, a very familiar butterfly entered his stomach as his boots hit the sidewalk. Just then the walker behind the fence began rattling it's links, moaning the entire time. There was movement to his right. Turning around he saw the gas station attendant stumble out into the afternoon sun. [******** me." Mumbled the former Marine. [******** me to hell." The man's uniform was covered in blood, his head hung to the side, neck ripped wide open, but he bared his teeth, blood gurgling out of his filthy teeth, he lumbered forward. Shambling slowly at first but picking up speed with every step. His hand went to his revolver. It would attract too much attention though, shooting it could ruin his chances of finding out what the pilot knew. Hank jogged over to the truck bed and opened his tool box. From it he drew his hammer, a heavy carpenter's hammer, shiny with a rubber grip. He approached the walker at a quick pace, grabbing it by the shirt his swung. There was a crack but the infected man only responded by grabbing his hand and pulling it from his shirt toward his mouth. Hank swung again, the skull caved. Shoving the walker to the ground he swung once more for good measure. He stopped and looked around, the walker behind the fence was going crazy, but it wasn't getting through. Walking back to the truck he addressed the pilot. "Drop down and climb in the front seat. It's 2 feet to the truck. Not a request. Do it now." He said bluntly. Climbing back into the driver seat he looked back at Zeke. "You get to ride in the back now." He said as if it were a promotion.

Maya Norley

Maya listened as the young man introduced himself, her brother replying. She frowned at Zeke's question, pulling out the gun her brother had given her, loading it. Musing to herself out loud, she said "Disease from medications, maybe? Or all the chemicals we put in food and water and the earth?" Maya shook her head. It was baffling how this had all happened, and so fast too! It was awful. She noticed a flare, and the person waving it looked to be in a Marine uniform, hanging from a parachute. Maya was about to point him out to her brother, when he noticed and pulled over from following the horse. Before she could say anything, her brother was telling her to take the truck if anything happened to him. If anything happens to him?! Too late he was out of the truck and going to free the man. Maya felt fear squeeze her chest as a zombie came out of the gas station, picking up speed and going after her brother. She watched as he quickly went to the truck bed and his tool box, getting a hammer. He then went and swung at it, but the thing didn't go down, instead grabbing her brother's hand and pulling it towards the creature's mouth. Getting ready to go out there, despite her brother's instructions, Maya forced herself to trust that her brother would be okay. Her fear grew, seeing a zombie rattle behind the chain link fence as well, but luckily that one couldn't get through. With relief, Maya saw her brother take the zombie down and go talk to the man that was dangling from the parachute.

When he came back in the truck, she leaned forward and slugged her brother on the arm as hard as she could, which was pretty damn hard. Her eyes were bright with fear for Hank. It didn't matter to her that he had been in wars, all she could think about was now, if he died or was bitten by a zombie and it came down to her to shoot him for the safety of the remaining survivors. Her brother was all she had left, she couldn't lose him. Their parents had died the previous year, and Maya and Hank were all alone, all they had was each other. Trying to keep how scared she was from her voice, Maya growled, "What the bloody hell, bro!!! Be careful! You could've gotten hurt! You could've gotten bit and then you would've had to be shot!!" She took a deep breath and sat back in the seat with a scowl as her brother informed them that the man would be joining them and so Zeke could go sit in the back. She rolled her eyes at the way he said it, making it sound like it was some sort of honor to move to the back seat from the front. Nonetheless, she made room for Zeke in the back, scooting over to the window. Maya went over what she knew about zombies, which wasn't much except for the fact that if you got bitten, you turned into one. Or at least that seemed to be the rule for all mythical creatures, but there were no real guidelines to go off of. She kept the gun in her hand, prepared in case she had to shoot, but hopefully Maya wouldn't have to.

James watched in relief as the truck drove down the road actually stopped, he carefully discarded the flare by tossing it at the zombie behind the chain link fence. James watched as the truck driver took on the Gas station attendant he fumbled in his pockets going for his side arm but by the time he had got a touch of its cold metal the driver had disposed of the zombie.H watched carefully as the driver approached the base of the sign and gave him an order..... the whole US government and military had just fallen apart and here he was again under someone else's command..... how Ironic!

He quickly emptied all the pouches and pockets of their survival gear into his uniform tunic before wrapping one arm around the parachute strap and with the other twisted the locking mechanism which released the three straps. He only dropped a small distance before the Harness took his weight again, and with it he gradually lowered himself the extra couple of feet, before swinging a little bit so his feet could touch the roof of the cab. He could see the front seat was occupied and as he didn't want to cause his rescuers any further grievances he simply bounced off the cab roof onto the flat bed, sticking a thumbs up out drivers side so Hank could see he was safely in the vehicle from the wing mirror.

Jenna sat there, gripping the wooden sword still. She was almost in a shocked phase, but snapped out of it when asked if she was bitten. "No, I'm not bitten" she said softly, then added. "Name's Jenna." she stayed silent when they started tossing around theories, shaking her head. "It's a ******** nightmare.." she finally muttered. When Hank got out of the truck, she eyed the walker warily. She wasn't sure if getting that guy down was a good idea with the zombie there. But it all turned out fairly okay when he dropped into the truck bed.

"I want them to stop screaming ...

Alice eventually stopped crying. The streams on her face was almost dry and the tears only made her more thirsty. She stood up, looking up to both ends of the road. Where did he go? She didn't know. It would be a matter of picking a side and then start walking.

...

She was tired to death when she saw a car parked to the side of the road. The front of it was smashed against a tree. Maybe the driver was a bad one. Maybe he didn't have a license. She remembered dad driving. He was gentle and calm and always smiling. She wanted to cry again, but the tears didn't come. There was only two doors on that car. The drivers one was locked, but the other was left open. She was about to leave when she heard that disgusting sound that meant nothing but death. Turning on her feet, she faced the monster on the other side of the road. The monster roared to her on a frenzy and came to her. She froze at start, but then instinct saved her by moving her little legs around the car and into it, closing the door behind her. The monster shocked itself against the door and the glass, a disgusting goo left on it. The monster kept hitting the car, trying at all cost to get Alice. The girl panicked and start to scream in terror, a very acute scream. "Ahhhhhh!"

... Mom, Dad, are you ever coming back again?"

James had scrambled his way onto the roof of the community building through a small trapdoor in the roof that he had practically vaulted into to escape the airy moans of the dead flesh that stalked him.
He walked to the edge of the building and looked down into the street. Further up the road, he saw a zombie ramming relentlessly against a crashed car. Only then did he hear the sharp scream echo up at him, and he looked closer, narrowing his eyes as he tried to see. Was someone in that car?

The chance that someone was alive, and would be the first living human he had seen in almost half a week spurred him off the edge of the building, dropping to the ground via the fire escape. As he ran, he pulled a broken length of metal from the side of the road and levelled it like a lance.
He knew he only had a few moments before that pitching scream would draw more zombies, and as each step brought him closer he saw the glass craze across the car's window.

With a wet schlick, the metal protruded through the front of the beast's head, and it fell lifeless to the ground.
As soon as it dropped, James wrenched the door open and reached inside. Without much more than "Come here, girl!" he grabbed the occupant of the car and pulled her out.
James took two seconds to look frantically around himself and ran for the nearest alleyway, the small girl clutched so close to his body that her feet barely touched the ground. He heaved her onto a dumpster and then leaped for the fire escape. As the spring-held ladder lowered under his weight, he half lifted her to the ladder and then lowered himself to the bottom rung and with all his strength kicked at the large bin until it rolled away from the ladder.
"Climb!" He urged. He didn't have time to check that the rooftop was safe, but he could already hear the chilling growl of walking dead approaching the neck of the alley.

((Hey guys, I'm waiting for Crayon to post before I do so again since our characters are following her's, but let's try to keep OOC to the OOC Thread if possible. And I actually went to a 21st birthday party last weekend over St. Paddy's day, it had to be one of the greatest events ever. Also Stewie, Alice is supposed to be outside of the city I think so just magically pretend you both are now so we can meet up, make it a community center in the industrial center or something if you would.))
