Maya Norley
Maya listened as the young man introduced himself, her brother replying. She frowned at Zeke's question, pulling out the gun her brother had given her, loading it. Musing to herself out loud, she said
"Disease from medications, maybe? Or all the chemicals we put in food and water and the earth?" Maya shook her head. It was baffling how this had all happened, and so
fast too! It was awful. She noticed a flare, and the person waving it looked to be in a Marine uniform, hanging from a parachute. Maya was about to point him out to her brother, when he noticed and pulled over from following the horse. Before she could say anything, her brother was telling her to take the truck if anything happened to him.
If anything happens to him?! Too late he was out of the truck and going to free the man. Maya felt fear squeeze her chest as a zombie came out of the gas station, picking up speed and going after her brother. She watched as he quickly went to the truck bed and his tool box, getting a hammer. He then went and swung at it, but the thing didn't go down, instead grabbing her brother's hand and pulling it towards the creature's mouth. Getting ready to go out there, despite her brother's instructions, Maya forced herself to trust that her brother would be okay. Her fear grew, seeing a zombie rattle behind the chain link fence as well, but luckily that one couldn't get through. With relief, Maya saw her brother take the zombie down and go talk to the man that was dangling from the parachute.
When he came back in the truck, she leaned forward and slugged her brother on the arm as hard as she could, which was pretty damn hard. Her eyes were bright with fear for Hank. It didn't matter to her that he had been in wars, all she could think about was now, if he died or was bitten by a zombie and it came down to her to shoot him for the safety of the remaining survivors. Her brother was all she had left, she couldn't lose him. Their parents had died the previous year, and Maya and Hank were all alone, all they had was each other. Trying to keep how scared she was from her voice, Maya growled,
"What the bloody hell, bro!!! Be careful! You could've gotten hurt! You could've gotten bit and then you would've had to be shot!!" She took a deep breath and sat back in the seat with a scowl as her brother informed them that the man would be joining them and so Zeke could go sit in the back. She rolled her eyes at the way he said it, making it sound like it was some sort of honor to move to the back seat from the front. Nonetheless, she made room for Zeke in the back, scooting over to the window. Maya went over what she knew about zombies, which wasn't much except for the fact that if you got bitten, you turned into one. Or at least that seemed to be the rule for all mythical creatures, but there were no real guidelines to go off of. She kept the gun in her hand, prepared in case she had to shoot, but hopefully Maya wouldn't have to.
