Raven watched as everyone gave their input regarding the festival. Then, he watched as Jay turn to him and ask if he was going. Of course, Raven wanted to go and have fun, but if he had too much fun, then it may get out of hand. A shrug of his shoulders and he was frowning. "If you're willing to put up with me chickening out in a very large group of people, I'm game." This was an excuse for not wanting to go. His left arm started feeling warm. It needed some kind of breather or else his cloak would burn like the last cloak he had.

He recalled it as if it was yesterday when he was in the marketplace in another city and his left arm was burning up. Oddly, Raven didn't notice the change in heat until the last minute when his whole body felt cooler than before. It was then that he looked at himself that he realized his left arm burned up his cloak and the cycle of people driving him out once again took effect. Another downside of his arm was that it can't stand being wrapped up. It's like it's alive and it needs air as much as the next guy, so it can't stay wrapped for too long. Right now, Raven noted that it can still last for a few more hours. Hopefully, it was enough to let him get away from everyone else before they found out about his left arm.

An embarrassment it would be to have to be kicked out of something he wasn't even part of yet just because of his imperfection. It was to be expected if they were going to throw him out the second they found out about his arm. Price's sigh caught Raven's attention and then he glanced up to realize Jay wasn't around. All Raven could do at that moment was sigh himself and try to imagine what would happen at the festival. The problem was that he couldn't even recall what happened during the festival, so his mind felt utterly blank at the moment.

User Image Lisa walked down the path to the Tower of Hope. The weather was absolutely beautiful for such a cold December day. She could still hear the sparrows chirping as they bounced around looking for food. She always wondered why the sparrows loved the snow so much, not that it was snowing, but you could tell that they were ready for it to fall. Her smile grew wider as she reached the tower, every time she saw it, it was more breath taking. To think that her skills and loyalty had given her such a place of honor was more than she could ever dream of. As she walked into the building, she was stopped momentarily and asked for her mark. They were made to let others believe that it was on their arm, having it covered with the band, but truthfully, she believed everyone's mark was place in a different location because hers truly wasn't on her arm. Slowly, she pulled up her hair, and moved her ear forward so the small mark made in the tiny space between her ear and her neck, which was always covered with her hair, was visible to the guards and they allowed her in. She wasn't quite sure why the mark needed to be kept secret, but she wasn't about to test it.

She was well prepared for the meeting and ready to get it started. As she bounded down the halls, she noticed Rand standing in the corridor. That wasn't typically a good sign, still she couldn't help but smile as he stood there with the cold expression on his face. She couldn't stop the small laugh she had with herself as she knew that he wasn't as cold as everyone thought he was. He was her best friend and loyal companion for years now. They had even started a relationship together in the past couple years, though no one knew about it. It was their little secret. She didn't even bother telling her brother, though it hurt her to keep things from him, she'd gotten a bit used to it with all the things that was necessary to keep away from him. He turned and greeted her formally, as always.

"Good morning, Rand." she said with a smile as he greeted her, though the smile was a bit short-lived as he delivered the news she had a feeling was coming. Sighing, she left her arms drop down a bit, "I really wish they'd let me know when they plan on cancelling these meetings beforehand. It makes it more difficult for me to do my job if I'm not communicated with." She was quite irritated that the others had left before they had a chance to greet her as well. "It's also quite rude that the others left," she stated, "Sometimes I wonder if the others even respect me as their leader or not."

She was still fuming over her thoughts when she realized he was still talking to her. Asking her about her plans for the festival. She felt her heart drop as she realized that he was already expecting her refusal before she had given it. They rarely had opportunities to spend time together, and being in a relationship usually needed that time together. Now she was a bit conflicted. Should she go with her brother, or Rand? Surely she could go with her brother, and then spend time with the both of them, not at the same time, though. The last thing she wanted was for her brother to realize that she was dating someone. "Well, I already have plans," she stated a bit quietly, "But it's just with my brother, and I don't have to spend the whole time with him. I'm sure we can make time for each other while we're there." That sounded more optimistic out loud than it did in her head. "If that's ok with you," she said with a smile.
User Image Sapphire jumped for joy as Price stated that they were going. "We're going! We're going!" She could help singing to herself as Jay jumped as well. Before he could bound out of the door to pack, Sapphire quickly grabbed him in a tight hug, spinning him around while still singing her happiness about the festival. She couldn't help the overwhelming feeling of joy she was having at the simple fact that she was going to the Festival of Lights again.

Looking over at the man named Raven, that Jay had been so adamant to talk to and invite to the Festival, she couldn't help herself from smiling and walking over to him. He wasn't a part of their rebellion, but he had a mixed look on his face from desire to go, to regret or pain or something. She couldn't quite put her finger on it. "You should really come to the Festival," she said with a smile on her face, "It'd be so nice to get out and just enjoy ourselves for a time." She smiled as previous memories came across her mind. "It the only time of the year, where everyone is treated the same. No matter where they come from, or what they look like. Everyone is just enjoying life and celebrating the festivities." She could stop smiling, "When was the last time you went?"

He can feel his left arm getting warmer, but it still hasn't reached the limit of burning his cloak yet. Raven turned and was about to get ready to leave until he saw Sapphire heading to him. From what he recalled, she was the most positive person he has ever seen. As he listened to her words, he started questioning as to what kind of home she was raised in because apparently, it sounded as if she had no clue about how cruel the world could be. Then again, he started envying her and her bright demeanor. If only he had a life like hers, then he wouldn't be in the situation he was in right now.

"I can't recall the last time I went, but what I do remember was that I last went to the festival as a kid." He started recalling the times he would be just like Jay and ask his parents if they could go to the festival to enjoy themselves. Yet, no matter how many times he remembers his past, he was unable to bring himself to smile. Raven was tempted to ask Sapphire how she's able to stay so happy even when times like these were going on, but each man and woman is to their own reason and whatever her reason was, he was going to respect it by not asking about it in the end.

Taking note of her expression, Raven finally built up the courage to finally start a conversation. "Tell me... how was the festival like, last year?" Of course, he was forced into asking this, but for very good rhyme and reason. It was a personal question he desired an answer for, regardless of how she was going to answer it.

User Image Jed clenched his fists as Daryn made the comment about Lisa sleeping her way to the top. Lisa was no floozy, and she definitely wasn't sleeping around. He was more than ready take another go at him, until Daryn announced that he'd like to go to the festival, just to tick Jed off. Jed felt the dread come over him as everyone agreed to go against him. This was unexpected. Maybe if he would've waited until Daryn answered first, the response would've been different. The Festival of Lights had always been something that he and Lisa shared together. He wasn't sure how he was going to tell her that he couldn't go with her now. She had been looking forward to this all year, just this morning making him promise that he wouldn't go without her. He most definitely couldn't be seen there with her with all the rebels walking around. This was quite the predicament he found himself in. Well, maybe he could go up there with her, and then find a reason for them to have some separate time for him to meet up with the rebels and then come back to find her later. That could possibly work.

"Price," Jed stated, "If it's not too much of a problem, I don't think I can travel with our group to the festival. It's a tradition that I ride up there with my.....family each year." He wasn't technically lying, Lisa was his family, and even though she was the only one who went with him since their parents didn't attend it anymore, dealing with their own matters, what he was saying was truth. "Also, I haven't told them that I'm a part of the rebellion." He stated this, not knowing if others had told their families, though he knew that Daryn and Sapphire had no family to tell, but he didn't want his family to know. Maybe they would think that Jed was just protecting his family by withholding this information. Jed could only hope.
User Image Sapphire couldn't help but smile as the man actually talked to her. "Truthfully," she said softly, "I didn't go last year. In fact it's been nearly 10 years since I've been." The memories of the time flashing in her mind, how happy that one night during the year was to her, the way if could hold her hope up for another year just playing the memories to herself. "I guess that's why I'm so excited." She couldn't help but be happy again, she was going to the festival!

"I remember going all the time with my parents. We'd play all these little games and my dad would let me sit on his shoulders to watch a few of the light shows that were not in the sky." The memory of her parents made her a little sad, but she kept her smile on her face, "And then, when I was in the orphanage, they couldn't afford to take all of us kids on a trip for the festival. So we didn't go anymore......but there was this one day." She laughed a bit, wondering if Daryn would get mad at her for telling this story, "I was so upset that I couldn't go to the Festival, I just sat there crying on my bed, and you know what?" She smiled as she looked around to make sure Daryn wasn't paying attention, "Daryn told me to shut my yap and quit being a big baby. That the festival wasn't that great, and that's why he never cared to go."

She laughed at the memory a bit. After he had scolded her, she discovered that he had never gone to the Festival before. "But he'd actually never gone before, so you know what we did?" Her eyes lit up with excitement as she remembered her first rebellious act. "We took off! Ran away and to the Festival!" That was probably her favorite memory out of all her festival adventures. They had gotten the beating of their lifetime by the Orphanage Headmistress when they returned a week later, but it was completely worth it. Other than that time, she had never actually seen Daryn smile or be happy, but she knew that it could happen. "Truthfully, I think Daryn wants to go back, but he doesn't want to admit it, so he used disagreeing with Jed as an excuse." She brought her fingers to her lips and made the 'sshhh' noise, trying to keep it their little secret.
User Image Daryn was quite happy that even though it was a small victory, he had won the last argument over with Jed. They were going to the Festival. In a bit, it was a shallow victory because he didn't really want to go. He didn't like being around all of those people. He had only ever been to the Festival once, and while he had enjoyed it, he couldn't deny that it was unsettling to be around so many people at one time.

Listening to Jed's excuses not to travel with them, Daryn's eyes narrowed at him. How come Jed had never mentioned his family before? Suddenly now, Jed was wanting to spend time with his family. Truthfully, Daryn had never even considered Jed having family members. A lot of the rebels were orphans, himself and Sapphire included. He had just assumed Jed was too since there wasn't anything ever said about them. Those who had living families were always happy to brag about them, unless they were pathetic. He was curious as to exactly what Jed's family was like for him to never have brought them up before. Jed was the kind of guy who liked to talk about things that he was proud of, so why hide them? "You should let us meet your family sometime." he stated, "Not as rebels of course, but as your friends. I'm sure we'd all like to meet them."

He was busy enjoying this moment of torment that must be racking Jed's brain when he heard Sapphir talking about him, and their days back at the orphanage to a complete stranger. One that wasn't even a rebel no less. She had no need to be giving out his business. "It's not your place to be sharing other people's personal stories," he hissed at her. He wasn't too awfully mean to her, out of all the people in the group, he knew her the longest and probably trusted her more than anyone else in the room too. Though she was too optimistic and an open book at times, she was definitely a good person to go to if you needed a person to talk to.

"Ten years, huh?" Normally, he wouldn't bother hearing the story of another, but this story was in regards to the festival of lights-- the only time in anyone's life to enjoy themselves without the cares of the world to follow them. A nod of his head, and he moved a bit in his seat as he heard her story of the time she went to the festival. It was her smile that made him know that people were still into things like that, even though the world got plunged into the chaos after the death of the king. Then, something confusing came into mind when she mentioned about an orphanage. Why would she speak about such a place when clearly she was talking about her family? It wasn't until he realized that she lost her parents. Raven hoped she didn't lose them the way he lost his.

Then, this second story regarding Sapphire and Daryn amused him, but his face was still expressionless. The adventures of a child were always the best ones a person would have in their life and he was glad to see that she enjoyed it. Thinking about her words regarding Daryn making excuses, it reminded Raven of the numerous times he made excuses to his parents, wanting to go to the festival himself. He recalled one time an excuse he made up and it made his father laugh and play along. The excuse was that if they couldn't go to the festival, that Raven would have a heart attack. Years after that, Raven had to laugh at that excuse when he realized that getting heart attacks were much more complicated and serious than that.

A 'sshhh' was heard and Raven snapped back into reality when he noticed Sapphire putting her finger to her lips and motioning a secretive motion. Raven couldn't help, but take his right hand and do the same thing. He couldn't do it with his left or else she would notice his 'claws.' And then he heard Daryn, requesting to Sapphire to not address his life story. It sounded more like a command, but it was a request nonetheless. Raven thought it was a sign of denial of a past Daryn didn't want to talk about unless it was between him and this woman here. All Raven could do is shrug his shoulders to the guy, then turn back to Sapphire. "Heh... that's very interesting, ma'am. You should hear the stories I have regarding the times I went to the festival. One year, I actually tried to tell my parents we should go or else something bad would happen to me!"

He was about to lift up his left hand, only to realize it was starting to burn a bit. If only he could stay there for just a few more minutes. At this rate, his arm may as well burn off his cloak. He had to made this quick enough to let him get out and literally tear off his binding off his arm. Raven counted the seconds as the heat continued building slowly, but surely.

          ════════════════════════════════╝
User Image Phi couldn't help but smile as Raven made the motion back at her. Her joy was cut a bit short as Daryn hissed at her. She gave a small nervous chuckle as she turned back to look at him, "You were just so adorable back then, I couldn't help myself." She tried to give him her sweetest smile before turning her attention back to Raven intrigued by what he bad thing he had said would happen to him that he could've convinced his parents to take hi to the Festival. "What did you tell them?" she asked excitedly, "Oh! Where are my manners, my name's Sapphire, but everyone calls me Phi."

She watched as his expression changed on his face to one of unsurety and a small amount of pain. He was very subtly looking at his left arm through the corner of his eye. She couldn't see it, but she was wondering if it was hurting. Perhaps he needed to go outside for some space, it was quite crowded in the bar and people bumping into everyone now and then. If his arm was hurting, there was no doubt it'd probably get knock into about a hundred times just sitting there. "It's a bit stuffy in here," she said, "Why don't we go outside for some fresh air, and you can tell me your story out there?"

Raven looked to Sapphire as she asked her question regarding his excuse. He could help but raise his right hand and scratch the back of his head."I told them I would get a heart attack if we didn't go." Amusing, yet sad at the same time, he had to admit. What was more surprising was that his parents probably got used to him making excuses to go to the festival when they planned on going anyways. Then, he lowered his hand as she told him her name. "Ah, Sapphire, huh? Oh... Phi it is, then." Raven nodded.

His right hand slowly went to his left as he contemplated on if it was possible to make a small hole in the wrapping for venting out the heat. Maybe it could work, but what if it still kept heating up at this rate? Then, he felt his stomach drop when he heard Phi mentioning about BOTH of them-- not only him, but BOTH of them-- going outside to get a breather. Honestly, he was hoping he could go alone, but Phi wanted to hear more about his story. It was times like these he wish he didn't open his big mouth. Now it was making him want to stay even more quiet than before. "Ah... I can go myself." Raven said, quickly getting out of his seat. He was quick to his feet, but he was calm and casual as he walked out of the bar.

Immediately, he moved to the side in hopes that Phi didn't follow him. With his back turned towards the door of the bar, he took off his cloak and the wrapping of his left arm, noticing it steaming up a bit. His eyes trailed towards the wrapping and he noticed a few burnt marks on it. "...I need to remember to cut some holes into the next wrapping and hope it won't break on me." Raven said, fixing himself a bit. A few laughs were heard from the side and he noticed some thieves chasing a kid. The child fell and the thieves were about to go and attack the boy, but Raven clenched his left hand and shot fire at the thieves, making sure he didn't hit the child.

Thankfully, the thieves ran off, but the kid ran off as well in the other direction. Raven sighed and crossed his arms. One of these days, he would have to stop helping others in fear that someone would find him out. A few swings of his arms and he was ready to head back inside. He took his cloak and fixed it up a bit.

          ════════════════════════════════╝
User Image Phi couldn't help but giggle as he stated that he had told his parents that he was going to have a heart attack. She could just imagine a little boy making that statement to his parents, and having his parents laugh, agree jokingly before deciding to go to the Festival to 'prevent the attack'. She imagined that he must've been a funny child and had a good family. The thought made her sad a bit as she recalled her family, but she dismissed it. She didn't like to stay depressed about things.

She was about to ask what his name was. She had heard Price call him Raven, or something like that, but she liked to hear it from people themselves. But he responded to her previous question about going outside. Only not with the answer she wanted to hear. She watched as he got up and exited the bar by himself. Truthfully, though they were only having a simple conversation and no more, she couldn't help but feel rejected by his response and wondered if maybe she had offended him or something with her stories and nosiness.

Quickly she got up and walked out of the bar, trying to locate where he had gone, wanting to apologize for anything she might've said or done to upset him. She spotted him a bit of a distance away, and starting jotting towards him, about to call him, when she noticed his arm that he was fiddling with. What in the world... She paused as she saw the deformed appendage as Raven was rewrapping it. Was this why he kept glancing at his left arm, though it was concealed so well? She had to admit that it was the ugliest thing she had ever seen, and it made her cringe a little bit. A noise of laughter sounded to her left as she watched him turn and look, following his gaze she saw the poor boy and the thieves. Before she could think, a rush of heat suddenly fanned against her face as she turned to see Raven clenching his left hand as flames bursted towards the thieves, saving the boy.

The boy didn't stop to thank him though, he took off in fear and Phi couldn't help but feel bad for Raven. How often had he helped people but got that look instead of a thanks. Any disturbing thoughts about his arm immediately vanished, replaced by her mother's words telling her that no matter how horrible or scary a person might look, they are still people, and everyone has good inside. Immediately she wanted to run up to Raven and hug him for all the pain he must feel when he gets that look, but she held herself back. It wasn't her place to do that to a man she didn't really know. "That was wonderful." she said in awe as he started to walk back to the bar, "The way you helped that boy. I wouldn't be able to do that with my powers, they'd be electrocuted on the spot."

Raven took a deep sigh and put his hood back on along with banding up his left arm. He was ready to go in, but he took a few more seconds to glance at the area he caused a scene in. The kid had every right to fear him, but it seemed a bit rude to come off and quickly judge by looks. For the longest time, he has been used to this and had the thought that he would have to live with it for the rest of his life. Once he turned around, he was about to take a step only to find someone had followed him outside. In that one moment, he held in his breath and he stood perfectly still as if he was petrified. Well, he was definitely petrified with fear when he found Phi standing there.

How much did she see of his arm? She was probably speechless just like everyone else that took sight of his disfigured arm. He wasn't going to stay here any longer. It was time he took his leave, so he was sure that she would be able to pass on the word to Jay and Price. As soon as he opened his mouth to speak and his feet walked him to the door of the bar, the first words of praise came out to him. Such an odd moment to tell him that his justice act was encouraging, but that's only because he has never heard such words before from anyone. All his life, ever since he got the arm, he has been put down as if he was a nobody. Who was this woman, exactly, to say such words to him as if he was a normal person? Has she seen worse things in her life that made his arm look like a silly bump? "Ah..." He turned to Phi and just stared at her with a look of uncertainty.

His mind was at a lost for words because he didn't know how to respond to such words. All he could do is give a small nod to her. This time, he lifted his left hand, his claw like fingertips and then finally spoke up. "...This is OUR secret. No one is to know about what you saw." Raven said before his free hand let go of the door handle. He had to make sure he got Phi's cooperation in hopes she wouldn't report him to any guards or anything to throw him out.

          ════════════════════════════════╝
User Image She wasn't surprised by the look of uncertainty or shock on his face when he had turned around and spotted her. She highly doubted that anyone stayed around him long enough after they saw his arm other than to point and scream before taking off. But Phi wasn't like that, people should be praised where it was earned, and in her opinion, it looked like Raven had been starved of praise that he truly deserved.

As he made his way to the bar, blocking her from returning inside, she couldn't help but notice how he was struggling to find something to say. Like he was unsure of exactly what was going on at that moment. She wasn't surprised at all when he told her that she needed to keep it their little secret. Smiling brightly, she played off of their little fun from earlier and lifted her finger to her lips and sshh'ed. Before he could open the door, "Why do you want to hide such an amazing talent?" she said to him, "You're amazing and we could definitely us someone like you in the rebellion." She kind of felt like her squad leader recruiting drive was kicking in.

He was actually surprised that she called his "curse" of his an amazing talent. Raven never saw it as anything amazing, but rather, he saw it has a hindrance since it provoked so many people and caused him to be exiled. A sigh came from his lips. "Er... Personal reasons." He mentioned, getting ready to open the door into the bar to let Phi in. And then he heard her invitation to the group. It stop him in place, letting him think about her invitation. It has been at least 3 times he has been invited to the rebellion by 3 different people. To be quite honest, he was getting tired of it, but for some reason, it kept bringing him back. Of course, he wanted to belong to a group, but who's to say that he might cause something bad to happen?

To be useful to a group was one of Raven's desires, but that was long ago. To be recruited now made him feel as if he has wasted so much time that it would be beyond late to even consider joining. All he could do was shrug his shoulders and just weakly nodded. "If I decide to join, I'll let you know." He then opened up the bar and let Phi in before he went inside himself and closed the door behind him. Back to his chair, he start considering ordering another cup of water, but it made him ponder a bit. Maybe that's why his arm was burning up earlier? It had to let go of some steam, but if he was going to continue drinking water, might as well do it at times when he was alone. Instead, he got more food, paid for it, and went straight to eating.

If she could convince him to join their cause, there would be plenty of time to learn about him. He hadn't flat out denied her, but he didn't accept it either. It was a start, more so than what Price had gotten out of him, she figured.

She didn't even hesitate to follow him to the bar as he ordered his food, and sat down next to him. "Think about it..." she said, being as subtle as possible so no one could know exactly what she was talking about, "What better place would there be for you than here with all of us other strangers? I don't think anyone here would be too horrified by your...." She tried to think of a word to use that wouldn't give away their secret that she was talking about if anyone were listening. ".....gift." She said after a moment. Her eyes lit up as another thought crossed her mind. "Plus it's no fun being alone. Wouldn't it be better for you to be around someone who knows and still accepts you? If you join us, I can convince Price to let you be on my squad. I could watch your back for you if anything ever gets out of hand."

She was smiling brighter now, reassured in herself that she was making valid points and happy to be helping someone who seemed like he had been hurt for so long. She was hoping he would accept the welcome to the rebels' family. Dis-functional as it was, this place was her home and they were her family. She'd take care of everyone and anyone who would call this place home. She gave him a hopeful and genuine smile, "What do you say? Doesn't that sound better than living alone with people looking at you constantly like they did?"
