~`『Vaulken "Kenny" Noctem』`~xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

“Is cigarettes the only thing you can think about?” Apparently the silver haired male did not react to his sudden choice of words which Vaulken did not mind in the slightest. Yes, he did not mind at all. The tall silent types were usually the most deadly meaning he could deal great damage if he wanted to. If he was tempted to… If he was tempted to, Vaulken wondered for a moment what the man would do. Since he was not sure what the man before him was actually capable of, the shadow creeper was not quite sure what type of damage, if any, the man could do. But, seeing as he was sent on this dangerous mission with them, the general probably felt the silver haired one held much power or potential than many of the men of his court. The guy probably impressed him which is why he was brought onto the mission. However, something bugged the small youth about this mission….

“A promise?” Vaulken asked curiously as his mouth pulled back softly to only give a semi-smile. “You know what they say about promises…” He alluded as he places his hands down on the ground below him as support after suddenly being let go. The boy did not know how much of his weight he was letting the man hold up until the guy suddenly decided to let go. So ungrateful this man was. But the simple thought of torture made him think about all the things that could be done to him. It sounded like music to his ears.

Vaulken felt a cool spot on the earth as he rubbed the soft soil against his finger tips. The spot was cooler than the area around it meaning one thing. His hand was in the shadow of something. From the looks of it, it had to be Sachi. Vaulken cringed at the idea that he named that silver haired thing before him. Shaking of that thought he felt like he could do anything and get what he wanted without much effort. Taking his chances, Vaulken readied his strength for what he was about to perform. If he was caught before he was able to process the deed, the man would surely make sure he won’t run away. And if he isn’t successful in running away, the small masochist boy won’t be able to get his share of delightful pain. He had to make it look like he actually tried to get away or the giant bird might not think he was seriously try to run away. “Promises are meant to be broken.” With that the seemingly feeble boy pressed his strength into forcing his body through the shadow looming over his shoulder and hand. It was a quick movement since the movement of shadows is faster than that of the speed of light. He was pulled into the shadow world.

The boy almost instantly appeared a few trees down from the bird demon which was about a good 50 or so yards away from his current location. Vaulken was drained from his adventures with the purple haired to last very long in the shadows. Looking over at the deadly silver haired one and cursing softly underneath his breath, he hulled his tired body up using the trunk of the tree before turning and sprinting down the opened path. The boy thought of throwing himself in the water but he felt he had enough contact with the wet substance to deal with it again. After all, he just needed it to look like he was trying hard enough to get away to get that sweet torture that was promise to him for being a naughty little boy. That simple thought made Vaulken smirk almost laughingly before disappearing all together.

You should have seen this coming- him going on about about how'd you'd be able to catch without a problem and whatnot. Sachi thought to himself, dull smile straightening into a line. The kid really did like riling him up, didn't he? Patting the head of the orchid-haired hunter quickly, as if to reassure that he'd come back to tortu- er, retrieve his still form later, the bird demon looked back up to see Vaulken quite a distance away.

"Fool." He muttered, wind beginning to pick up around him again as he stretched his wings and finally took off- teeth bared and the maniacal look back in his eyes. Shoot, after he got his cigarettes- he could put them out on the shrimp- yes, that sounded completely fair for depriving Sachi of his cigarettes.

He wouldn't give the little one a chance to slip through his fingers anymore either- nope, instead of stopping in front of him, Sachi slowed his speed to get behind the dark-haired boy before making a grab for the pale column that was his neck.

((Yeeeah- Sorry, I fell asleep.))

Vaulken though the guy called him something along the lines of fool or moron which made the small boy snicker softly at the idea. After this, there was probably no way Sachi was going to let him out of his sights without some type of lashing whether it be from the tone or physically. “Has anyone told you to lay off the cigarettes? They can mess with your mind!” Vaulken stated with a small laugh as he propelled his body further along the line of trees. Again his mind went to the stream he was running along.

No, he didn’t want to get wet even if it was an interesting idea. After all, the catch is only half the fun. That simple thought made Vaulken’s eyes smile as if he knew a deadly little secret.

As he ran, trying not to stumble along the many tree roots that seem to just try and lift out of the ground to catch his feet, Vaulken something lightly brushed against his neck. After another moment, he felt a small yet lingering touch. No one touches the back of this shadow creeper’s neck. His reflexes, as always, kicks in as he quickly turns around and latches his hands around the wrist of the bird demon before the evil man could attach to his neck. But, as soon as he did, Vaulken dropped down to the floor with am ‘umph’ letting go of the man’s arm almost as soon as he grabbed a hold of it. Now the boy’s back was hurting and he got the wind knocked out of his lungs. Taking in deep breaths to stabilize them, Vaulken sat up and initiated a storm of coughing fits while rising to his feet.

It seems like every time his reflexes kick in, it makes him end up in an even worse situation. Vaulken, not exactly being the over exaggerating type, commented about his bones were acing from his body being over stimulated by everything and running for his life from an idiotic assassin that just happens to go crazy if he doesn’t have his cigarettes on his person at all times. Cursing the guy’s name over and over again in his mind, Vaulken found a place he thinks would be hard for the giant of a bird the man is to reach him. However, considering the guy was a bird demon, he probably is a natural tree climber, but, seeing as how he wanted to continue this little game of theirs for a short while at least, the boy decided to take the chance. With the last bit of energy he allowed himself to spend, Vaulken grabbed a branch and started to climb the tree he landed under. It was a huge tree and the branches were very thick so it would be hard for the little one to fall through. Not taking another second to look around for his hunter, the small shadow creeper went higher and higher up the tree branches, only stopping every once in a while to either catch his breath or to find the best looking limb to stand upon. Of course the boy was not stupid enough to climb to the top of the tree since it was obvious the bird demon would be able to catch him with his ability of flight so his destination was the most densely clustered area of the tree which happened to be in the middle of the large Oak. Yes, this would be a good place to stop and rest for however long he had left before being captured. This day was becoming even more tiring that Vaulken first imagined.

Sachi cursed when the boy evaded him- in Sachi's always blunt opinion- the most awkward way possible and scurried up the tree like some squirrel. It didn't help that the kid threw off his flight- forcing the assassin to slow to a complete stop. The General sure did know how to pick them- it was as if he wanted Sachi to kill his coworkers.

The bird demon made a mental note to ask the General about the odd topic the next time the two were fated to meet.

But there were more important things to worry about, namely cigarettes and the little shadow-walker that was currently keeping Sachi away from them. The boy was clever, the bird demon would give him that- people evading him wasn't a problem the hunter usually encountered. Not clever enough, though. He thought, grinning as he made his way over to the tree. Climbing it and wringing the boy's neck after he got to him would be easy- but attempting to knock it down would be much more fun.

And with that goal in his head, Sachi took out his sword and began the, if not crude, insane task of cutting down the thick tree.

Vaulken let out a breath as he leaned against the trunk of the tree making sure to keep his breath under control. But, the shadow creeper noticed something was rather strange as he looked around to see if he could find that giant bird assassin that just loves to abuse him. Well, from what he could tell. First the guy makes the poor little Vaulken endure that terrifying flight in a very uncomfortable position. During that time, the man just happened to feel like taking a nose dive not only knocking the wind out of the little one’s lungs but also knocked him out of consciousness! Soon after that, the guy nearly claimed his life again by dunking his unconscious self down into the stream coming out of the home that all the hunters would be sharing.

Yes, what a wonderful day it has been! So filled with passionate rage and irritation to last the shadow creeper a long time. Yes, a wonderful day indeed….. Now, to top the evening off, the branches seem to move against their own accord almost trying to knock him out from amongst the tree’s limbs. “Guh!” Vaulken grunted as the shock of something hitting the tree knocked him forward so he would be laying down on the branch he was currently on. His automatically reaction was to wrap his arms around the limb and hold on for dear life. Vaulken did not know the man was crazy enough to cut down a tree with a person still inside it!!!! Damn that man! Hopefully his grip will last or he would plummet to a place he currently doesn’t want to be.

With each whack to the tree, Vaulken’s heart seemed to skip a panicky beat. The force exerted on the tree started t become more eminent and powerful. Vaulken started to shake though he was not sure why. Probably because he finally started to understand again why he hates heights so much. The simple fact that he could either plummet to his death or plummet into the arms or an assassin which will kill him sooner or later are prime examples of the reason heights should be feared and hated with the most deepest of passions.

Vaulken felt his grip loosen for only a second and he was suddenly clinging to the limb of a tree….with his world upside-down. Yes, wonderful day it was turning out to be. Not only that, but his grip was not so tight anymore which mean he was going to fall and do one of two things depending on where he was. Vaulken was not so sure he was above ground or above the water anymore since he can’t exactly look down or he knows he is going to fall. Well, it was too late now. The small shadow creeper couldn’t hold on anymore since he was physically drained. So, Vaulken closed his eyes and let out a loud “Aaah!” as he felt the dropping of his stomach as he made his way through the branches, some of them whacking his back as he fell threw them though none seemed to snap. The small shadow creeper also heard a loud snapping noise as the tree fell in the direction away from him over the river. Now, Vaulken waited for his inevitable doom.

((Sorry for the long wait. Playing with new toys. An I probably won't get on until late tomorrow depending if I have a computer or not....))

Sachi was as giddy as a schoolchild when, with the last thwack of his sword against the oak, the tree fell down. Whether he was giddy because this meant the successful retrieval of the cigarette-hoarding shadow-walker or simply because he destroyed another life-form could be examined later. Now was time to obtain his cigarettes and possibly wring the shadow-shrimp's neck.

The bird youkai strode over to his victim, the dull smile replacing the ecstatic and bloodthirsty one he wore for while hacking down the tree. He pulled the boy up by his skinny arms and brought him close enough to see the murderous twinkling in his eyes.

"Cigarettes."

When Vaulken hit the ground. Oh, yes, he was hurting. He was hurting like hell. The boy knew he at least dislocated a few bones since he heard the popping of his ribs and shoulders when he hit the ground. Plus, his bones are not brittle enough to snap with any type of fall. Luckily he was not underneath the tree which would have been a pain in the neck to keep from being crushed. He now has to push them back into place or his slightly quicker ability to heal will force them to move in strange ways. That, he found out, was a horrible experience and very painful to fix so he did not want to deal with a trip to the medic if he had a way to actually avoid it with simply moving his bones around. Vaulken had the strength to push them back and would only take a few seconds to fix.

Using one of his unoccupied hands, he pushed one shoulder back until it came to a loud and painful pop in his shoulder. Holding it there for a second, he then does the same to his other. Now his ribs were a slight bit complicated since one had to work individually on each one of them to keep from jolting too much pain through the nervous system which can take a lot of time he apparently did not have. So, he decided to do them all at once. Pop! Poppoppoppoppoppop. That had to be at least seven ribs and he was currently curled up in excruciating pain. That has got to hurt even for a demon. Before he was able to recover from the shock of the pain, Vaulken was picked up by his arms and brought up close to the lumberjack assassin whom had this murderous twinkle in his eye when the shadow creeper’s glazed over eyes looked into his captors.

This man had to be one of the most irritating. “Is that all you can think…about?” The small one asked starting to feel the numbness in his body start to settle in from the chock of his bones. It should go away in a few minutes if the assassin doesn’t treat him too roughly. “Well….you caught me. Where’s that torture you promised? Apparently you don’t keep to your word, you b*****d.” Vaulken couldn’t move considering he would not know where he is swinging his legs or his fist from the numbness settling in his body. But that fact did not affect his decisions as he just smirked at the assassin before spitting in his face. “You might want to look in the stream.” Of course that was a lie, but this person was fun to mess with even if he was irritating and talked like a broke record.

Sachi stood in silence for a whole minute- his grip on the shadow-walker did not tighten, did not relax- nothing. He just stood still, as if frozen. It was one thing for the teen- his junior is many ways- to openly mock him, Sachi was indifferent to such things- they were rewarded with violence as most interactions with the bird demon were.

Spitting in his face, as if he was no more than a dirty criminal- because while he was a criminal in many ways, he was certainly not dirty.- was inexcusable. It came as such a shock, the demon temporarily forgot about his oh-so precious cigarettes and threw the boy down, and then proceeding to place his foot on the boy's throat.

"Who do you think you are, child?" It was a rhetorical question, but necessary all the same, "Do you think I- no, the General values your life that much? You are expendable- we all are- but you are shortening your pitiful lifespan by angering me, boy." As if to prove his point- the bird demon began to increase the pressure he put on the boy's throat with nary a thought in his head, but the idea that the boy would probably turn a lovely shade of blue.

Yup, he was pissed.

Vaulken notice the giant bird man did not move for a few moments as if frozen in time. Actually, this is the first time he has seen the man so….silent. It was almost unnatural to say the least. But, this also meant the man before him was unpredictable. However, wasn’t he like that since the beginning? The small shadow creeper could not tell what he was thinking and the man always seemed to surprise him to no extent with his blunt and almost horrendous actions like chopping down trees just to see the person in them fall. Doing nose dives without considering the package he may have with him is deathly afraid of heights. This man was literally all about himself. Well, himself and torture or death. Usually the last two go together in some way, shape, or fashion. But, at the moment, Vaulken was curious as to what was on the man’s mind.

He got his answer when he was thrown to the ground and the heel of a foot was forced down onto his throat.

At first Vaulken was not sure what was actually going on, but the intense atmosphere around the man indicated he was not mad. No, angry wouldn’t even begin to describe it. The man was insane with blunt fury. It seems that he struck a chord with whatever he did and nothing he would say could reverse the possible outcome of his survival. The thought of his survive was obviously dwindling down to near nothingness. It was even possible the guy could kill him right here with his foot locking all the air within his lungs from ever reaching the outside world. In other words, Vaulken was screwed. He was probably going to die. And he was fine with that.

The shadow creeper heard the man sprouting off words which Vaulken half registered, but he got the basic jist of the meaning behind them. All of the F.A.T.E. Hunters were expendable. They were all there probably to die. That actually would explain why Vaulken was chosen out of many of the more experienced groups available. His family probably put the General up to it along with the reason that the small shadow creeper was excellent at his work. He probably thought the family was trying to show how strong their offspring were. In all actuality, they just wanted to see the small Vaulken disappear and never return again. His mother would be very sad. That thought hurt the small one though it did not show as he closed his eyes narrowed in a daze and a soft smile swept across his face. It was not one of fear or any added affects. It was a genuine smile. The small shadow creeper came to terms with his possibility of never reaching the age of 21. Hell, he predicted he probably wouldn’t make it to the age of 18 when he would be claimed as a man. They didn’t want that to happen. And now, those lying bastards will be getting their wish.

Vaulken could feel the pressure in his lungs building up and his body starting to spas out from the lack of air, but that look never left his face as he dug his fingernails into the ground to hold himself steady. He was still numb but the lack of oxygen was starting to mess with his mind, his thoughts and memories just like someone would think of as a flash back. He wanted to die so badly, to bleed that man out of his veins, but this was could be all right too. But, Vaulken still had this small thought that knew he was not going to die that day no matter how pissed off that giant b*****d of a bird was. His spirit, though broken, would never allow it until he killed that man. He was going to either die before Vaulken or with him. Whatever fate decided.

It might have just been the tobacco withdrawal, but the boy's peaceful expression- even as it was clear he was beginning to asphyxiate- unsettled Sachi. He was used to his victims begging and sobbing; laughing madly, cursing him with their last breath- sometimes fighting for one last swipe at the bird demon,- but not smiling. At least, not so peacefully, he had encountered that expression only once in his career and it happened to be on the face of a person who had died before Sachi could even reach them.

And that person wasn't a target- which was what shook the hunter so badly at the time.

As silent as he had been the moment before, Sachi removed his foot and turned his back on the boy. The bird demon was ashamed of himself, he had not only attacked a person that was his coworker- and not a particularly strong one at that-, but he had hesitated in killing him when it was his clear intent. "Get up, boy." The gray-haired man ordered, pinching the bridge of his nose as he felt a migraine come on.
