The moon shines on the midnight sea

Layla was talking with Cain and the experience was surprisingly amusing as it were. The man was right now, avoiding her questions and trying to get her to leave it seemed. Now that just wasn't right. Layla's eyes narrowed as he carefully avoided her gaze for a moment before looking up at her once again. She agreed with him as far as the whole 'better for fieldwork' went but she could tell that underneath his calm exterior there was an interesting (perhaps aginizing) past. She knew all this but she didn't ask about it. His past was his own and as long as he stayed out of her personal business, she would stay out of his. "yeah I can see how that would work... but it's always nice to look attractve." she replied easily. She had heard that Cain was bad at talking to women but he seemed fine to her... maybe people just overexagerated? With a slight smile she decided to ask him about it. "so I heard you were bad at talking to girls..." she said, trailing off to see what his reply would be.

"It's not very attractive to be dead," Cain pointed out. When she commented on his inability to speak to women, he stiffened. He was NOT going to discuss that topic, especially with her. The knight sighed, finally looking at the pirate queen. "Are you trying to annoy me, or is this just a natural talent?" Layla seemed to ask him about everything that he hated talking about...

Zenith smiled brightly at the food arrived. "Perfect timing." He started eating, glancing over at Abel after a minute. His friend was very quiet... "Is something wrong?"

"Hm?" Abel blinked out of his daze and shook his head. "Just thinking, that's all." The knight definitely had a lot to think about... Where do we go from here? We're going to help Ethra with its war, and then what? Would they go home to rescue their wasted homeland, or would they be forced to forget about it and live on this side of the ocean?

Layla nodded thoughtfully at his words, her hands coming up to finger brush her long ebony hair. The motion was an old habit and she didn't even realize she was doing it anymore. "true..." she replied, her voice matching her expression perfectly. Her eyes widened in surprise as he stiffened, his face abruptly turning from sullen to something much worse. She winced internally at the expression before turning her own face into that light teasing expression she wore so often. "well, I'm going to say that it's a natural talent. Something about you just brings out the joker in me I guess" she replied jokingly, chuckling softly before eyeing him once again. "well, seeing as all my topics are failures, what do you want to talk about?" she asked curiously, wondering wether he would decide to actually choose some general topic or question her like she had him. somehow, she thought it was going to be the latter.

Anne looked over at Abel as he snapped out of a daze, taking a drink of water. "You know... Sometimes it's better just to look at what's in front of our noses instead of over the horizon. If not... Well, we might end up tripping over a few stones on the way and getting even more hurt than we already are."
She smiled at him before going back to eating.

Why? Why did it have to be like this? Why did God have to play his life so cruely, so harshly, that he couldn't have one thing of happiness before it was ripped right out of his hands?
Vincent stood there, watching Trinity's back leave his doorway like a statue. His voice was caught in his throat. 'Move! Don't let her walk away!' His mind was screaming at him, but his body couldn't find the will to breathe, let alone move after the woman he loved and try to convince her to stay and not sign herself off to death.
When she was gone his gut dropped to his feet and straight through the floor all the way to the core of the earth. He felt like he was right back where he was before, standing in the forest with his sword raised to his neck.
Except this time it was worse. He might as well have stabbed himself through the heart and survived still, so he wouldn't be able to even have the peacefulness of death's embrace.
Slowly the Prince sat down on his bed, the very bed Trinity and himself shared the previous night. He bent forward, held his face in his hands, and just broke down. Tears ran down his face, but he said nothing.
Raine looked up at Vincent from the bed next to him, keening sadly. She flew over to the door and carefully pushed it shut before going back to her best friend. He's had such a hard life... Just when things were starting to look up, it all came crashing down. And when he thought he had a chance to rebuild it... the very person he's come to love more than anyone signed herself off to death, and wouldn't even tell him why...
Why? Why God? Do you like torturing people like this? So many feel so much pain, every single day. Nothing has gotten better. Is this a sick game you play? Is this what happens to Sinners? Murderers? People who take things for granted? Lovers?
Oh God... If this was what happened to Sinners... May he be reincarnated again as a Saint who could never love again...

(( Apologies in advance to any religious in here! Just drumming up the dramatics! sweatdrop ))

Cain couldn't help rolling his eyes when she said that he brought the joker out in her. "Apparently I do that with a lot of royalty." When Layla asked him what he wanted to talk about, he shrugged. The knight caught her eyeing him, but didn't say anything about it. "If I had my way, I wouldn't be talking at all," he told her bluntly, holding up a piece of armor. Why is it that everyone always shows up when I want to be alone? Cain turned his attention to the ships at the dock below, one of them catching his interest. "... I didn't know Eronian ships sailed this far." It was quite a distance away... I guess they needed to find new trading partners after Hindrah fell.

Abel blinked in surprise, then smiled and nodded. He glanced at Zenith and laughed. "I guess she beat you to it, Zen." He could tell by his friend's expression that he was about to say the same thing.

Zane shrugged and grinned before turning his attention back to his food. It seemed Anne didn't think that differently than he did.

Anne blinked and glanced over at Zenith, catching his expression. She couldn't help but smile and glance away. She thought like Zenith because she learned it from him.
Anne soon finished up her food, sighing in relief and relaxing. It felt good not to have her stomach growl and try to it itself out.

Zane smiled at Anne after he finished. There really wasn't much to do until everyone was together again... "Want to go see if we can find a quiet spot to practice?" Practice knife-throwing and blending in, but still...

Anne blinked and looked at Zenith next to her. She smiled at him and nodded. "Sure. Sounds good to me." More time alone with him was nothing she could complain about.
Anne looked over at Abel and smiled sheepishly. "Um, you don't mind, right?" She didn't want to leave him on his own and lonely. That didn't seem very fair to her.

Abel smiled and shook his head. "It's fine. Besides, one of us has to stay here and make sure Cain doesn't think we ditched him." The knight glanced at Zenith.

Zane grinned sheepishly. "Aw, way to ruin my fun." He stood up and put the money for the food on the table, taking Anne's hand.

Anne smiled at Abel and nodded, her smile widening when Zenith took her hand. She squeezed his hand gently as she stood up and walked out of the tavern with him.
She liked these turn of events... The ocean seems to have led her to a lot of things. Her past, her memories, and the one she'd end up falling in love with...

Layla grinned as he rolled his eyes in exasperation before replying to his words. "well you should be happy! I'm pretty sure this is the fastest I've ever recovered from a pissed off mood without any alcohal in well, ever." she said with a laugh before letting her gaze go past him to where James was sitting at the edge of the cliff with his lady friend on his lap. She shook her head in mute disgust before turning back to Cain with a bright smile.. it didn't matter if it was completely forced as far as she was concerned. The woman knew that come tomorrow James would find himself alone in the bed the couple would have shared the night before and then where would he be? She knew he would try to come back to her but the rules stood and though the life of a pirate was a relatively free one, you had to follow the code. A captain who let the screw ups back on their crew were the ones who found themelves captured and killed the next day. She refused to be the fool that all the pirates (including herelf) looked down upon.

She shook herself from her thoughts just in time to hear him make that not so subtle comment about wanting to be alone. "why do you want to be alone so bad? I mean, I'm all for keeping your problems to yourself but still" she said easily, chuckling softly before following his gaze towards the large vessel that she reconized just as he said the name. "Eronian eh?" she said more to herself then anyone else "we've sunk a few of those in the past..."
