She stayed silent, unhappy with the results of her effort.
"Well...alright then..." she mumbled, still staying in tow.

This was miserable. Her knees were sore from crawling. Her hands were scratched by the rough
floor. There was gravel under her fingernails. Even her wings were beginning to cramp. But I won't be
a baby about this. I've lived for this.

"I've dreamed of this....." she murmured below her breath, silently wishing the others hadn't heard.

"I mean, the thought was nice and all but, it didn't help," he whispered back in shame. He was starting to tire from the monk's weight but didn't give. Any more trauma to him and the monk could die, which after all this work, was not happening on Jerimiah's watch.

"So, my name's Jerimiah," he said while extending a hand for a handshake. He had been taught that you can judge someone on the firmness of their handshake. "What's your name?" he asked.

She turned around, looking him up and down.
"I-i'm Lynn...." she said, looking at Jeremiah's outstretched limb like she'd never seen a hand
before.

She looked away for embarrassment. "I-i'm sorry, I'm...I'm just...not used to conversation..."

It was true. Her peers had avoided contact with her whenever they could, and eventually became
negative towards her. Before today, she'd really believed that in a short span of a few months the
whole world had turned evil. Maybe...maybe I can trust this one..., she thought.

"Not the handshake type huh?" he asked laughing. He thought about what she said for a few seconds and said back "Well, it's not the most common thing, a succubus. But, you obviously deserve no less respect than me, well, maybe more. I don't know."

He found a little pool of clean water and advised "You should give this guy some water."

She sighed as she got up, wondering why he was so nice. Maybe it's just the way humans are...
she thought. Most of her life she'd spent in a school set specially aside for the children of the elite,
most of which, not surprisingly, we not human.

She trudged over to the shallow pool, wishing she had on a pair of slip-ons rather than her lace-up
platform boots. They would have been much more useful for walking, that was for sure....

She dipped her hands in the cool water, sealing the gaps between her fingers with energy, then
carefully got back up and returned to them, offering it to the monk.

"You'll need this."

Jerimiah watched the water disappear into the monk. He was glad the monk was alive and wanted to know his name too. But then he remembered; His parents were still back in the town. "Great!" he shouted out loud, until going back into his thoughts.
"Man, they're going to be so worried and angry!" he thought to himself, disgusted at forgetting about how they would feel.
Too little, too late though. There was no way he could go back. Hopefully his dad and mom would appreciate that he was defending an innocent man.

She watched his face as he watched the monk drink. He seemed to be glad that he was doing at
least a little better... Knowing that he cared for others' wellbeing was good.... It put her at ease
around him...

"So...your parents will be concerned of this matter?" Lucky. she thought, If only mine would...

"You can read thoughts can't you," he chuckled back. He didn't know much about succubi to be honest, o he wasn't completely surprised. "Anyways, yes," he replied, "They'll probably go insane, crazy, or be ecstatic. I don't know"

He started up again to stay with the leader of the group. He was hearing noise from the city still, but it was moreso of panic and gunfire. It worried him but he knew his parents would be okay, they knew where to put their noses when.

She looked directly in his eyes, despite herself. "Your parents are wise." she paused in thought.
"My parents never seem to care about me while I'm at home, but when I'm at school there isn't one
thing thay can keep from getting into.

She recalled the time in seventh when there had been a competition...it was specifically for eighth-
graders...but her father had come to the school with several servants, a cardboard sign, and a
megaphone and started to preach the injustices of grade segregation in front of the school...

She could practically hear him now stading in front of the Governor's building doing something
much similar...only this time there would be people listening. If he cared anything for what
happened to her he'd have realized she was part of this...and knew he was putting her in imminent
danger.

"That bad huh?" he asked, in a more depressing tone. He had parents who weren't perfect, none were, but they cared and loved for him. He just hoped they didn't get in trouble because of his unthought out actions.

"Well, some people are just not the caring type and think strength is in something material, like money," he said as analytical as he could, "they think more can be done with the dollar bill or bullet then pure kindness."

He blinked and laughed a little. "Welcome to the mind of me!" he said laughing all the while.

She looked down, thinking that that was exactly the way her father was...

Her mother mostly stood off to the sidelines, admiring his handiwork and all the while managing to
still adulterate. She should face it. Her family was generally screwed up people. Her grandfather,
known for many things that didn't honor the family name, had been governor once...and it was part
of Baridya's worst slum ever... It had turned out that he had been taking money here and there out
of the taxes and using them for...well, whatever he pleased.

And not to even mention the crimes other members had commited...

"Your world and my world are one in the same...." she whispered. "Yours is just so much brighter..."

Why?

"Well, that's because I already figured it out," he smiled while he said all this, "that life ain't fair, but, it is when you even the odds. That's what I do. It's what I keep planning on doing."

He started to wander in his thoughts from his parents, to how people deal with life, to the fairness of life, to how messed up Lynn made her life sound. He felt bad for her and felt a little saddened by it, and decided not to hide his feelings because she'd be able to tell anyways.

She sighed, his thoughts seeping deep into the depths of her mind as if they were her own. "I won't
find anything out down here..." she shifted her weight to the other leg once more before deciding to
sit on the sides of her legs rather than her feet. She'd get much dirtier like this, but it wouldn't
matter once she reached the surface. She smoothed the wrinkles in her skirt, thinking it would be
such a blessing to be able to do that with her life.

"When I go to the surface...there will be sun. I heard about it in a book that I found in an unlocked
safe...in my grandfather's room. It's...like a great yellow ball of light that floats in the sky...,"
she looked at Jeremiah. Judging by his face, he'd seen a book with details of the surface as well.

"When I go up there...I will be able clear my thoughts. And there will be fresh air, like there is here
by this stream...."

"Ah, the studious illegal type eh?" he inquired jokingly. He adjusted the monk on him and commanded "Get up, we barely have any time to rest." Jerimiah could hear the soldiers coming their way, having figured it out. They were still a way off but movement was necessary.

((We may have to wait on the OP soon.))
User ImageHer face remained blank, but her mind filled with worry.

"Yes, they'll be on us if we don't move..."
