Carlisle Oxford III
"I don't like to commit myself about heaven and hell - you see, I have friends in both places."
Carlisle was asleep in seconds. He lay on the ground, curled up. He would have looked peaceful to any who would have happened to walk in. In the realm of dreams, he was very active. One might imagine he would be having nightmares, but really, he was having pleasent dreams.
He dreamed of his daughter and his wife, alive and well. The little one who used to nudge his hand inside his wife's belly was in his arms, giggling. The little girl had his sleek blonde hair and blue-green eyes, but she most certainly had her mother's curls in her hair and her face. She was beautiful, so tinny and innocent. His wife kissed him and said something that he wouldn't remember when he awoke. But then, his dream changed, and Lilacinus was there. She was standing in a meadow full of beautiful flowers, lilacs to be specific. She was naked as in the real world, and her hair was slightly wet. He didn't know why her hair was wet but it didn't occur to him to be odd in this dream. "Hello," she said, walking over to him. Her walk was... somehow different. He couldn't place why, but when she approached him, she did something that would have shocked him in the real world. She gently placed her hands on his face, and stood on her toes to kiss him.
Carlisle heard a noise in the real world, and discovered his secretary had come in. He opened his eyes slightly, barely able to make her out without his glasses. He was too tired to speak, and the dream was on his mind. He was agitated she had interrupted it."Oh, I'm sorry Dr. Oxford," she said. "I didn't know you were asleep. I'll... leave you alone then," she said, turning off the light and leaving. This left Carlisle quite annoyed, and he turned over so that he was facing the wall. He straightened out his back, and tried to sleep. But that didn't seem to come so easily. His mind was on the dreams he was having, of his wife and daughter... He began to cry again, curling into a ball on the floor. He remained in this state for another hour and a half, then was finally done. He just lay there now, thinking. And then the rest of the dream crossed his mind, the last part... Lilacinus had kissed him, actually kissed him. He blushed, clearing his throat for no apparent reason. But then, the most shocking part occured to him. He had kissed her back. This made him feel ashamed- how could he have done that? "It's just a dream Carlisle," he said, yawning. He turned back over and fell asleep.
