"Forgive me, Your Majesty," Sarah said as she entered the room. She hadn't bothered to ask. She'd ignored the guards, and risked angering the queen, but they were both trivial matters. She no longer held any loyalty to Hackathorn. They were quickly sinking and damned if she'd sink with them. They'd already pushed the Howes under, and the only man who could pull them out of the water was being patronized by none other than the Queen Regent of Hackathorn. "but I don't think Lord Creedy here is as big of a coward as you make him out to be." She smirked.

"He made a mistake. I'm sure you, of all people, hailing from such a family as you do, would know about that." She subtly tapped her ring finger as she spoke. She had to fight the urge to smile and laugh. How often did one get to speak to a Queen like that? "I've been sent to Hackathorn to inform you of the Howe's collective decision to forfeit our loyalty to Your Majesty's great house. And, by an extension, Your Majesty herself. I also have one thing to return." She threw the bare crown of a queen on the desk, the set jewels picked free of their holdings and in the bank account of none other than Lord George Howe... but she wouldn't tell Verity that. "Angeline offers her best wishes."

She turned out of the room with a curtsy and waltzed straight past the guards once more. She'd had no intention of hurting the queen, but she had every intention of ruining her reputation. Sarah had decided it was a better idea to catch Robyn outside... she wasn't risking not having the ability to out-ride a guard if she had to.

Kostro only managed to follow Vorlander Solaris to the home that Kostro knew to belong to Draxus Acaelus... He supposed that had something to do with the man that Vorlander had been traveling with, one Slevin Acaelus, which just so happened to be the smith that The Gathering had employed. It was a curious thing, to watch them together. Kostro had been forced to keep his distance along the way, and thus the only time he was able to get close enough to hear them was when they stopped on the road... Even then, only if there trees or thick shrubs or outcrops of rock to hide behind.

Along the way, he had learned only one thing of great importance... And that was Vorlander's religion. Apart from that, there was nothing that Kostro had overheard that seemed overly interesting, aside from the obvious fact that they both had something invested in that safe. Its contents were truly important...

... But now, Kostro stood just down the street from the Acaelus estate. He could not just walk in, and sneaking in seemed a bit dangerous, given that the only way to get in without using the gate was to hop over the wall, which was exposed to the busy streets of the city from all sides... He would surely be seen.

A few minutes later, and he caught a glimpse of Slevin through the bars of the gate, being carried out of the front door around a corner, and down some steps to what Kostro assumed was a dungeon. Vorlander wasn't far behind, also being escorted by guards.

It was all far too enticing for Kostro not to get a closer look... "But how?" He wondered.

Cristina grabbed the order and slid it into her chest, knowing nobody would reach there unless they were a pervert. She gazed at the man as mentioned about making a permanent job at the palace itself. Her face expression was rather surprised. She never expected an offer like that but if it wasn't from King Gareth himself, somebody would speak of it to her anyway. She smirked a bit as she glanced at her feet, thinking. "Aldrick, that would be delightful, but I'm not sure. I feel it is my duty to help others and the people who spared my life, yet I am more..of a person who desires free range. I would rather not be kept in a cage.." she stated, as her gaze went from her feet to his eyes.

Cristina is a person who never stays in one place for long and having a permanent job at the palace would keep her locked down more than anything. She would rather travel or at least have traveling missions. Then she remembered her last mission on the road. That didn't turn out as well as she hoped...Mostly because of her whining about how long the traveling took. At the moment, she nodded. "I'll take the job, but i promise nothing. Whatever happens, happens." She bowed, not caring what her mission was anymore, then looked at her wolf, Aella, noticing how her posture has stiffened and the hair on her back was beginning to rise in a wild movement. Cristina got on her knees and petted the wolf, whispering, "Everything is fine. Relax." Her dog wouldn't do so. Aella kept her silence but kept staring at the man who was in front of them.

you're moving on, we'll never be apart, just drain my tears, I cry aloud,
you're moving on, you'll never be a part, of all my tears, I cry aloud.

Lake was surprised to hear the man's voice. "Many thanks, Archon..." he said, watching the outline of the bag lower in the darkness. He reached for it and opened the bag, taking the food before giving the rope a slight tug to let him know he was finished. "Best get back before someone misses you."

He leaned over as far as he could to hand Kelevra his share. The meat and bread would hold them over, better than nothing. If no one forgot about them, and with the Whippoorwills, none in The Academy were sure to anytime soon.

The thunder and rain increased, making the water flow faster down into the pit. It was the best night and it would be the best week to be in such a place...

When Sarah left the room, Robyn turned back to look at Verity, his own face conveying shock and bafflement. Sarah Howe had spoken to the queen as if the queen were a child, and in some ways Robyn could see how that wasn't too far off. Nevertheless, she was the queen... Even if only the regent, her position warranted all the respect of anyone else wearing the crown. "While my feelings are similar to Sarah's, I will not leave on such a sour note.

"What you call cowardice, I call self-preservation. It was not my choice to leave Noveria, it was my father's. When we see someone ascend to the throne that is not yet ready for the position, we leave before we brought down by a ruler that we did not truly believe in. Perhaps you will do well for Hackathorn, and I hope that is the case. I hope you can prove me wrong, for the sake of the people.

"But if I am right and you are not yet ready to lead, why would I stay?"
It was rhetorical, but Robyn still took the opportunity to pause and sigh. "I respect the crown, but as a person, Verity Thornias, you should not be the one wearing it. Aside from the fact that some think you mad, the person you chose to marry was a noble, yes... But a noble that willingly chose to live in the woods for extended periods of time, away from the political arena. That is not a man that is ready to lead a country.

"And of all the times you could have married, you chose to do so just after your brother had been gravely injured and you ascended to the position of Queen Regent. Some would see your marriage as nothing more than a ploy to solidify your position on the throne, to take it from your brother... And then that also raises the question of whether or not you may be involved in his fall.

"Aye, I left my key where it ought not to have been left. I thought it safe. I should have given it to Victor, but it would be a cold day in Vargroth before I handed it to you. Again, because people think you are mad. Myself included. Now, please do not mistake this for accusations. I do not think you would really harm your brother. Victor is a good man, and I know that you know that. I think you are a good woman, incapable of hurting your own kin.

"But, not all see you that way. And I and Sarah will not be the only ones to move to another country before this is over. You need an alliance. It is only a matter of time before what little wealth is left in Hackathorn is paid to another country, and you are left with nothing. You need another kingdom to care for this land while you figure out the financial crisis.

"Wherever I end up, I will let you know, and I will do whatever I can within the power of my next position to help... But I will not stay and fall into poverty as well...

"... I wish you luck. Goodbye, Your Grace."
Robyn left the room and, once out of sight, ran to the stables. He wasn't sure what mood he had left Verity in, but he wanted out of the city just in case. Once he was on his horse, he saw Sarah and rode beside her. "I have a caravan ready to leave. Is there somewhere we can go to talk? I think it goes without saying that it would have to be somewhere far away."

"Come, quickly." Sarah turned her horse round and beckoned for him to do as she'd said. It didn't take him long to follow orders and she was off, riding as quickly as she could, him trailing quickly behind her. She was off in the direction of the East Venerian Portal, where she would reunite her family and they would all embark on a journey to Rochford, where there new home was located. Her adrenaline had not yet run out, and while her heart was thundering in her chest, she felt no fear. Only elation.

A Howe was a great friend, and a greater enemy. Sarah had seen to it that she changed her own personal motto to just that. It was nothing but the truth, but it had taken Hackathorn too long to learn the last part. Sarah Howe was not one to cross. She was still smiling when she brought her tired horse down from a gallop, panting herself. Her hair was wind-whipped and her skin turned pink from the bitter chill of the wind. She laughed and turned back to Robyn, who had slowed his horse to match the pace of her own. "Where are you headed, Robyn? You should know well that my family would welcome your.. service any day." She beamed, arching an eyebrow. "The Howes are due to return to their original place in Rochford. Far out of Hackathorn's jurisdiction, close to the Montarran border just in case."

"Thank you." Reid smiled. "I don't think you're average either." He couldn't see what she saw in himself, and while sometimes it made him sad, he was an overall happy person. "I think the wine is starting to wear off. And uh..." He gestured to his clothes, still wet. He had yet to change into something dry, for he had been purposely putting it off because it made him nervous to change his clothes in front of Sidonine.

It had been far too long since anyone other than himself had seen him without clothes. He didn't have a screen in his room, for he had never needed one. Nobody ever came to visit his quarters, and thus he had never had to change clothes with another person in the room, so his only options were for her to turn around, have her leave the room, stay in wet clothes, or just let her watch while he got naked and dressed again.

Richard felt the wind against him as he traveled back towards his home. It has rather been a long two years without his wife and a long two years of lying and working. Constantly on the move because of his work, he finally thought of returning and leaving his past behind, hoping that it would leave him alone in return. The long travel was taking a toll on how much energy he had left, but it was enough for him to walk down the gravel road that led to their fancy white house. He kept his pace as he walked and crossed through the grass that contained a hill that led straight to the home. He heaved himself up and across the land as he got closer to the house.

"I'd rather my 'services' be exclusive to you. Promise me that and I'll join you." He had already made up his mind. He had been intending to go to Rochford as well, and he was going to ask Sarah to come with him. Obviously, they were on the same page. "I'll send word to my caravan to join yours at your families home, and they can travel together. I suggest that you and I ride ahead and see what we can do to establish ourselves in Rochford..."

Part of the reason he was saying that was because he wanted to quickly find status in Rochford, and the other reason was because he wanted to be as far from Hackathorn as possible before the mad queen could catch up with him. Hackathorn had recently found its way onto Rochford's most hated list, thanks to a hasty and impulsive divorce that Victor had decided to begin while at the wedding of King Rock and Lady Morrigan. For that reason, if Verity asked, it was doubtful that the royal family of Rochford would extradite them.

She beamed at him, and reached over and squeezed his hand. "As much as warriors are necessary, we need mathematicians and scientists as well," She said softly. "Or else we just stay where we are now, never moving forward, with a possibility of moving backward," She said softly, looking from Dinah who was pawing at her arm, back to his face again.

Sido smiled at him, but the smile faded when he motioned to his wet clothes. She immediately flushed, feeling foolish once again. "I'm so sorry! You've been...oh, my, I'm so sorry," She said as she stood up, looking a bit unsure. She too had noticed that he, like most men, didn't have a changing screen, and she felt it rude to watch him change. "Did you wish for me to wait outside?" She asked as she scooped up Dinah, who immediately tried to worm her way into Sido's blouse, and Sido had to hold her tightly to keep her from doing so.

"I'm sorry..." She added again quietly, looking up at him with those big eyes again.

Morrigan was careful to sit herself perfectly on her horse as not to bounce around too much. She didn't want to disturb the baby, and she was already riding against the wishes of the midwife. She was still young in her pregnancy, and if not for her high position, she would not have had the ability to be so assured of the baby growing inside of her. She rode proudly, sidesaddle while under the ruse of a queen (though her husband knew her well enough to know she could ride wonderfully astride). "I'll go wherever it is you'd like, my love." She crooned when her husband inquired about Roth.

And she followed. They stayed in Roth for a brief time and were quickly on the road to Montarra again. The travel was quite an affair... Morrigan insisted on riding through even the tiniest of villages, wanting only to please her new subjects. It was the first time many had seen her. She didn't stay long, for fear of catching an illness that could harm her and the baby, but she gladly gave her blessings to all that they passed with a smile on her face. They made her happier than any gift she'd ever been given, any title she could ever possess... this was why she loved Rochford so dearly: for the kind, loyal, faithful people it called its own.

They stopped twice, during both of which, Morrigan stayed close to her husband. They were still another day's journey from the Montarran border, and the cool morning air did not motivate her any to move her any from the bed she and her husband were closely pressed against one another in. They had stayed overnight in First Gate in the house of some noble Morrigan had been too tired to remember the name of. "Oh, what I wouldn't give for five more minutes." Morrigan kissed her husband's bearded cheek, curling her knees up and over his legs.

Elizabeth Knightley

Location:Outside of Somerset, Elysia Speaking with: Richard

'Things were different long ago.' Elizabeth thought as she read her book. Her mind kept escaping to the thoughts of her husband and how they fell in love. Her book had some relevance to the romantic past that she had but her attention span wasn't long today. It was rather short. She stood up and placed her book on a table as she walked to the bathroom to splash some cold water on her face. Why did he fall in love with her? Was it for her beauty? Her mind? Or was it just to have a lady by his side? Her heart turned sour and sick. If that was the reason, she was a fool. So was her family for letting it be. She splashed more cold water on her face as she tried to breathe. Then wiped her face off with a towel that was left on the counter.

She dragged herself back to the chair, remembering what her plans were for today. Chores, check. Reading, somewhat checked off. Visiting Gabriel...no check. She felt a need to see him but for no apparent reason. She blamed it on her addiction for seeing the lonely man and his sister, plus her husband always gone. She sighed, picked up her book and returned to reading where she left off.

Her reading was interrupted when one of the maids rushed over to her. "Lady Elizabeth, look outside. There is somebody walking towards our home." Elizabeth set her book down and dashed over to the window, examining the person walking on their property. She wrapped her arms around her chest, as her heart began to hurt again. She found that the man looked oddly similar to her husband but she didn't want to assume without making sure if it was really him. "I'll be right back." She said, as she grabbed the bottom hem of the dress and sprinted outside to meet the man face-to-face.

She watched as the man got closer and closer to her and the home, That's when she decided who he was. She ran up to him and jumped in his arms as tears slid down her face. Richard caught her with his arms and held her in a long, passionate embrace before he took a look at her face. "You're crying.." he said, as his finger wiped away her tears. For a moment, she forgot the pain in her chest and longed for the man who she fell in love with from the beginning.

As Vorlander was led to the dungeons he began to wonder if he would ever see the outside world again. Slevin’s father was as monstrous as the stories made him out to be, it was a wonder the son was different. But… he had heard a piece of information that disturbed him greatly, he had not heard about the death of the child.

The moment they were locked in their cells he stared across at the man and asked him point blank, “Is it true?” Slevin should be able to tell what he meant, Vorlander had made his feelings towards children exceptionally clear. If Slevin did not come clean with him about the incident he would remove his contract and make sure Slevin’s business never was used again by any of his allies. He would not betray his greatest belief just to see a project finished.
