Gareth took the journal given to him and browsed through it. Amy seemed so hopeful and he didn't want to put a frown on her beautiful face so he read whatever this Leon said about Valryte but, nothing was really clear. "My time is never wasted when in good company, Lady Hawke." he said to lighten her fears on the subject and then returned to the journal while he tried not to scratch at the back of his head, thinking of a way to help her "I am sorry but I do not recall ever hearing of this man, however..." he took a pause as he thought the idea over "If you say you both reside in Elysia, maybe they have more solid information over there. I was going to send you there to deliver a message to the queen but seeing as this matter could be related to my kingdom and, you are under my care as well as your son..." Tabitha entered the room between giggles with the baby and Gareth finished his sentence "I will go to Elysia with you." Tabitha frowned "What? You're leaving? But... what about Valryte? Aldrick is leaving and so is Wraith. Who will take over things?" Gareth gave a soft smile "You will. With the help of the other councilmen, of course." Tabitha gave Leon back to Amy as if she was afraid she would suddenly lose the strength in her arms "Gareth. I can't-" Gareth went to her sister and caressed her cheek "I trust you, sister. I need you here in Valryte in case Verity sends a letter needing our help. You will keep me informed but if it is an urgent matter, I trust you to make the right decision. " Gareth kissed her forehead before turning to Amy "I believe you have some packing to do, Miss Hawke. I will see you in a couple of hours. Excuse me."

Gareth left both women and headed towards the library where his servants told him Aldrick, Wraith and Cristina were and caught the last sentence Cristina said and smiled to her "I will take care of your sister. Don't worry, my lady. I will escort her to Elysia where we both have matters to discuss." she looked to Wraith and Aldrick "I am leaving Tabitha in charge while I am gone. I trust she will do fine on my absence. Nonetheless I'll be back in a couple of days. I trust you are leaving soon." he said as he was rather curious about their arrangements for travelling and dealing with the issue. The sooner they left, the sooner they'll be back in Valryte where he wanted them.

She had been listening intently in the darkness…The thudding of her own heart reminded her of the drums, but somehow…Even though she could hear it in her ears, and feel it in her chest, neck, wrists, and fingertips, it went easily ignored. There were noises…A creaking from above. If one hadn’t been listening for anything but the sounds of the fight, it would have gone unnoticed. She was just reaching for her fan when a large form lunged into her, taking her off the balcony. If the Headmaster’s voice hadn’t hissed the obvious in her ear, he might have found himself in a very odd predicament. She was just about to tell him he needed to get off of her when he rolled away.

She found the wall and pressed her back against it, her fan slowly getting pulled from her sleeve as she heard two forms drop in front of her. She snapped open her fan and lashed out around the height of where she heard breathing. She felt a spray of warmth across her hand before the torch was lit and the drums nearly drown out the shriek of the second assassin, one of the matrons with a dagger in her hand looking around with hate filled eyes, as Anna’s wrist twisted slightly and brought fan back around across the woman’s throat, severing artery and jugular alike. She felt someone reach at her skirts and looked down to see the first one, trying to drag her dying corpse close enough to scratch her with what was surely a poisoned edged blade. She closed her fan and brought it down like a knife, right into her eye, stilling her fighting.

She yanked her fan free and made a face at the eye juice and brain matter that clung to the tip. That was never going to come out…And even if it did, she’d never get herself to look at it the same again…It would always be there…The proverbial spot that would never come out. “I won’t forget this. After the match you and I need to talk.” Anna’s eyes darted to the headmaster…It wasn’t as if she could claim deniability…She was streaked with blood that could have only hit her if she’d been the one to deliver the telling blows…She only nodded that she heard and understood him. Kotar came running over and gave Anna a look over that was blatant shock and horrification before he yanked his jacket off and covered her up, yanking her away from the dead bodies. “What the ********]

Anna kept her teeth clenched together, and tried to not get any of the gross stuff on Kotar’s jacket. He wouldn’t mind the blood, but he might care about eye juice and brains… “How’d the fight go?”

“I’d say you gave them hell! But if you’re referring to the Arena, Hellcats won…Obviously…” He grinned. “Lita told the sweet prince to win for her. That Kelevra LeCarde is going to have a hard time now…Someone should remind him not to go off on his own. Olga’s going to be going for his throat now.” Anna’s steps faltered slightly…She knew that name, and not just from the delivering his schedule. For some reason…It hadn’t jogged her memory before now…Her gaze moved to see him stuck in the middle of the Hellcats despite them having been told to stop. They looked murderous, but they finally gave in to the headmaster’s wishes. He hadn’t been a prince last time she’d seen him, only a nephew of a King…“Put that fan under the jacket. I can clean it. Don’t need anyone else seeing it. Let them think you fell off the balcony in the dark when the headmaster got grabby in the dark. Everyone will think it so long as you don’t show them any evidence to the contrary.” He closed his coat over her front, letting her keep the soiled fan concealed. “The headmaster wants to have a chat after the match.”

“Then let’s go get you cleaned up.” He whistled a sound that sounded much like their team name…Anna had named the team after the bird, because you might hear it, but it was hard to see it, and if you found it, you were surprised by what you beheld. Lake caught a look at Anna and his gaze turned towards the headmaster, murder lighting their depths. Kotar whistled again and opened the jacket enough when Lake looked to show that it wasn’t what it looked like and he nodded, tilting his head to the others to follow. Lita was going to be annoyed…No attention on her after inciting Olga’s wrath on the other team…Or one member in particular.

“Hurry up. It’s not going to take long for the Headmaster to address the teams.” Kotar grabbed her clean clothing and walked her to the baths, checking everything to make sure it was clear before he took the jacket and soiled fan. “I can clean it. Do you need me to clean the other one?” Anna shook her head and set the unsullied one by the tub before Kotar nodded and made his way to the hall to stand guard. She heard Kotar explaining to Lake about noticing that she and the headmaster were gone when the torch came on and went to look and found her standing over two of the matrons in that state, and if he wanted more answers, it would be best to wait since she was probably naked and they did their best to keep from seeing her as the gods intended-no matter how hard a temptation it was. That seemed to get Lita to keep him from shoving into the baths to find out what happened. He wasn’t allowed to see naked girls without Lita’s consent.

It was a quick wash before she was dried and in a clean dress, her hair drying thanks to a towel as she opened the door to see her team staring at her with more questions than she was sure she had answers for. “I was told to speak to the headmaster after the match.” Phillip smirked. “He can wait a minute. I think Lake has a few questions.”

She put her head down…All she wanted to do was go to sleep right there on the desk…How could she be so used to going two or three days with no rest and feeling fine to…This? It was just papers. She lifted her head and looked at the pile that still waited and tears threatened to fall down from her eyes before a knock had her banishing them away. She looked up to see Astaroth entering with…Flowers…She felt her fatigue recede slightly as he handed them to her and she noticed one wasn’t real. She read the note and those damn tears threatened again. She’d done more crying since Victor’s accident than she had her entire life before!

“They’re beautiful.” She stood up and went around the desk, hugging him. She hoped her cracked voice would be seen as a sign of fatigue. “Thank you.” She felt him moving as he pulled something out and she looked it over…A deed to some land…She gave him a look that was tinted with amusement and joy. If he was buying land…He might be staying? She didn’t want to tempt fate by asking, so she only smiled, her head resting on his shoulder, her arm around his waist as the other cradled the precious roses.

“Going out?” She smiled. It’d be nice to get out of the office for a little while…And she hadn’t even begun to make a dent in the audiences…She felt that invisible weight of burden try to bend her back and she stiffened it. “It’ll be nice to get out for a little while.” After all, she had pretended to be crazy for years…She’d been useful that way…She doubted she’d be so useful if she did indeed go stir crazy in the palace walls. “Is it dinner time yet?”

“The healers are on their way.” He said as he approached the two men. He had heard a good deal of the conversation, but eavesdropping did that-let you hear things. Luckily he had been looking busy while he’d done it. Sure enough, a group of men and women were escorted onto the ship. One of the women went to check those who were ambulatory, the others set to work on the one with the gouged eye and cut face, and the one who seemed to have his back broken. He heard something about a poison and someone rushed down to a cart that they had brought, going through things and putting some sort of concoction together.

“We didn’t take anyone else from the sea. If you can give me a bit more to go off of, I can talk to a few of the temples. Unmistakeable eyes and armed to the teeth isn’t much to go off of. Unmistakeable eyes has different meanings for different people, and a woman armed to the teeth- well, there’s a whole nation of them across the Basin of Bliss. She could easily be mistaken for a Noverian who was caught by the currents. Nicknames, defining scars, something like that.” He wasn’t going to ask for their names if he could keep from it. And there was always a chance they had survived…Albeit a very slim chance, but he wasn’t going to say something like to help their corpses be identified so you can claim them. They’d been through enough, no need to remind them of how bad things could get.

One of the healers broke away from the group and approached. “The big one who has lost his eye will be alright. The care he received was sufficient to stave off infection. He’ll be another four to six weeks healing, and we’ll give him ointment to do him to keep infection from setting in. The other one…” She bit her lip. “He was poisoned, but most was purged. He should do a little better now that we’ve given something neutralize any that lingers in his system. He’ll be months in recovery. At least four in a special harness to let his back heal. He may never walk again, but if we keep him in the sling, he will hopefully still have use of his arms. The College of Healing has had some remarkable results with rehabilitating those who have broken backs…I’m not sure how severe the cases were, but it’ll be at least four months before he can even begin to see what he will be capable of. The sling…It must remain stationary…”

Aryk looked to the one the general was speaking with. “She means he’ll need to stay here.” She nodded. “I’m sorry, but a ship that is constantly rocking back and forth or can get caught in a storm…It could do far too much damage for him to have any chance of recovering enough to use his arms and hands. Captain Hunter is held in high regard by the Queen, and we will be happy to take care of your friend until he can be moved safely to wherever you find yourselves.” Aryk gave the woman a startled look. ]“The Queen does not like me.” She smiled. “She doesn’t have to like you to hold you in high regard, Captain. When she returned from Rochford, all towns that might come across you in your journeys were notified you had done her a great service and that we should help you however we can. We can take care of this man until he can be moved and his friends have a place where he may finish recovering. If you and your other friends have any skills, we can even help shelter, feed, and clothe you in trade while your friend recovers if you don’t wish to be separated.”

Aryk looked to the other man. “You have decisions to make. Do you need to talk to your friends? I don‘t mean to rush you, but we have to leave come morning. If you wish to continue, my ship will take us to where we are going in Elysia and they can take you across the way to Montarra if you wish. Otherwise, you can stay here and if I learn anything of the women who were with you, I can send word.”

Vesper left Verity in the office and returned to Victor's side. He opened to the page he had stopped on, after that of the Noverian family and their confusing claims to the throne. "Montarra has been ruled by several families, unlike the reigning Allandors in Noveria or the Rochford Kingdom. Every king or queen, have met untimely ends in the middle of their rule and thus is always expected as an unstable one." He read, "Elysia has been ruled by the Aislin family since her founding, yet forever with single surviving children as the only ones to take the throne." Vesper continued on with their unlucky births and deaths. It held no mention of the current Queen Soraya, given it was written before her reappearance, merely a guess at the last child.

"The Acaelus family had ruled for generations before it was, more or less, handed to the LeCarde family willingly. In the case of the Valryte family, they were overthrown and the crown was taken by the Alistairs for a more stable rule. Generally, the common people in Valryte care little for politics and it has been a solid reign for two kings." That was... comforting, he supposed. Vesper took a moment to have a drink, looking at Victor over the edge of the cup. He gulped it down and set aside the mug half-full. He continued, "Rochford has a troubling family, with the appointment of their relatives to high offices, it is often a complicated court which has resulted in the first public execution of a queen during peace. King Rock appointed the next in line, Oak Rochford, as the Baron of Beacon. The third highest populated city where, despite his unmarried status, is looked upon favorably by the people..." and stopped when he noticed Victor's hand. His fingers curled and uncurled, as if he were trying to make a fist, ever so slowly.

Vesper was struck dumb and he stared, a while after it had passed as a simple twitch. The Maester nearby said it was a good sign for his recovery and Vesper quickly returned to reading about the Baron of Beacon further into the book.

As they exited the arena, the girls were tended to and since Hannah was still pretty much out with a scar on her forehead, there was no much punishment for her yet. Jade and Berta were fighting since Jade couldn't help teasing Berta's lack of teeth. Berta threatened to punch Jade but she quickly evaded it, grabbing her arm and tossing her aside like a rag doll. Olga was bored and she deserved some type of reward. Whatever that good for nothing headmaster gave her, it wouldn't be good enough for her. She didn't care for freedom, that dream was long gone and anything else she might get, she got it from the other superiors when they abused of her and her girls. No, there was only one thing she wanted.

Olga kicked the door to Lita's room with her dead foot. It had some wrappings and some nasty s**t was put on it and in it to counterattack the poison. She used the foot for anything now since she couldn't feel much there. After spotting Lita, a sickening wide smile settled on her impressively white teeth "Hey baby." before anyone could say anything, Olga made a quick stride to Lita, holding her by her cheeks and pressing her against a wall before her lips went to her mouth and stole a kiss from her delectable lips "You're my reward for the night, b***h." her other hand went between her legs and felt her warmth with a sickening grin as she pressed her body against Lita. She was the hottest b***h Olga had ever laid eyes on. "Such a perfect kitty. Such a waste of good p***y."

Donovan stood at the edge of the balcony considering what to do. He hadn’t expected the Hellcats to murder most of Shadow Reign. That needed to be addressed, and quickly, he wouldn’t be seen as a weak headmaster. The Hellcats needed to be punished, especially since they left without Donovan confirming their win/

After a moment he was ready,Although the Hellcats achieved victory, deaths were not allowed. For every death the Hellcats will be lowered two ranks. Four deaths, eight ranks. Therefore the Wildunf Hellcats are now rank ten. As for punishment for the deaths, half rations and give each woman a chastity belt. Guards, go and detain them.” He knew how much the Hellcats liked sex, let’s see them deal without having any. The guards nodded and moments later they heard screams as the woman were unceremoniously given chastity belts.

He then turned to Kelevra and the remains of his team, The remaining member of Shadow Reign will be put on another team until Shadow Reign can be filled with new members. He nodded and the boy was led away, another team would have to pick him up. He’d put it out for Kelevra to pick his top three choices.

Brushing himself off he headed to his office and waited for Anna to show up.

Astaroth smiled at her and nodded, It’s dinner time for you. Come with me.” He took her by the hand and laid the flowers on her desk before leading her away. Out of the castle they went, horses were waiting for them. Mounting up he led her out of Venereia and to a nearby glade.

Morgan was waiting for them there and a large fire was slowly roasting a deer. There were vegetables cut and being cooked slowly in a broth that was also simmering on a fire. Morgan was smart enough to dig dirt onto the fire if it got out of control.

There was also a bottle of wine and two glasses sitting on a rock. “Tonight, you’re going to relax. And help me celebrate becoming a citizen of Hackathorn.” There was one last surprise, but he needed to know if Verity was willing to take the last step with him. He knew what he wanted, and what he wanted... was her.

Rosalda made a noise that sounded much like annoyance. "We both knew that he was a fool," She said, looking annoyed as she turned away from Eliias, feeling the anger still boil in her chest. "This is not something that my brother would have thought on his own. He would have thought his friendship with Victor would have been enough...no...someone had this idea before he came to have the throne..." She said softly.

Was it a way of her reconciling what her brother did? In a way. Rose knew, deep down, that Peter wouldn't have thought of something like this. It was half the reason why he turned to Victor, because he thought of it an easy alliance. Someone had to have put it in his head that it was necessary to have the marriage between Hackathorn and Montarra, and to use Rosealda. But, she wasn't sure who yet. Her brother had many friends who were in politics, so she could only guess, but she knew Peter wouldn't have want to do that to her.

Not his little Lala.

She looked to Eliias. "It will be easier to just go to you chambers. I dare say now it shall be the only place where my Aunt won't have ears placed around." she said softly as she looked to Iago. "How are the cures?" Iago looked at her. "They are coming together well, Your Majesty. I just need to have them sit over night, to see the long term effects before I send them to Hackathorn," Rosalda nodded. "Thank you, your swift work is appreciated," She said. Iago crossed the room, over to Ellias, "I'll keep an eye on Lady Mallow," He said as Rose turned to move out of the room, and he stuffed a piece of parchment into his hand. "We have more to worry about that the Witch and her black cat now," He said in a low undertone, before motioning his head for Eliias to catch up with the Queen. "I hope I don't have to advise you to burn that after you've read it, do I?" And with that, he left, leaving Ellias alone with his note:

The Master of Coin has been poking around, and noticing the large sums that King Peter signed off on. Came questioning me about it while I was working. He plans to go to Rosalda.

I'll be more than happy to deal with it.

She followed him to his new property. Every step of the horse had her wishing for a bed…It was getting to be a trial staying up in the saddle, but she managed. She was too stubborn to fall prey to fatigue. Though…Exhaustion might show up to drop kick her in the face if she wasn’t careful. It was a nice ride, pleasant. Though she had dozed off twice in the saddle on the way.

When she saw the campfire and Morgan tending it, she laughed softly. The smell of the cooking stew had her stomach growling softly, but not loud enough to be heard over her laugh. “Morgan fixed us dinner?”

Astaroth laughed as they dismounted and set the horses to graze as he fixed the two of them bowls. “Oh yes, she taught me everything I know about food."

She laughed harder, wiping the tears from her eyes. “I don’t know how much of a reveler I will be tonight, but I’ll do my best for you.” She blushed softly and ate the food. He seemed nervous about something…She had a feeling she knew what it was… “Vesper and I had a discussion about how we never know when something might happen to us. How we should talk to the people in our lives…Let me tell you something about my mother. Since you’re becoming a citizen, you should know a little bit of history.” She grinned, eating another bite. “I was fourteen or so. Maybe fifteen. It was just before the plague struck-again…Anyways, my mother was telling me how she couldn’t wait for me to fall in love and get married.” She refrained from telling him it had been Oak her mother had been referring to. He still got that jealous glint in his eye when he spotted one of the accursed trees.

“Me, pretending even madder than I did when you met me asked her how I was supposed to know if someone loved me, or I loved them. She smiled, and said ‘Love is complex, and never simple, Verity. Does he treat you kindly? Do you treat him kindly? Does he get jealous at the thought of you being with another, but still give you your freedom? Do you? Does he value your opinion? Do you value his? Does he consult with you on matters even if they seem trivial? And do you do the same? Does he make you laugh and smile? Do you do the same for him? Does he give you pleasure? Do you give him? Does the passion burn hot and fierce and then warm your blood throughout the day so you never feel cold? If so, then it should him as well. That is how I know love.’”

She looked up and smiled at him. “She meant it to comfort me, and give me, the insane child, a touchstone to begin with. I hope I treat you kindly. I know I have a temper, but anyone who is even passably acquainted with me knows I treat you different. I also hold you to a different standard, but they often comment it’s because I care so much. I hope that is kind. I know you get jealous, at least where one particular tree is concerned, and I will honestly say if I thought you were sneaking around with someone or even blatantly doing so, I might be none too pleased, but you give me freedom and I give it to you. I ask after you so I know you’re safe, not because I don’t trust you, and I feel sure you do the same for me. I value your opinion. I can’t consult with you on everything, but if I think you have some knowledge on something, not matter how silly, I ask. Many times it brightens my day and makes me laugh, and I try to make you laugh. I’m not good at it.”

She stopped there, giving him a long look over. He looked as if he were holding his breath. She scooted closer to him, her hand sliding up to his hair as she pulled him into a soft kiss. “I like to think I give you a great deal of pleasure.” She nibbled on his lower lip and his fingers wrapped around her wrist. “Keep talking.” His voice was strained. Harsh. Almost pleading. “When I’m with you, I feel like I can burn alive and not give one ********, and every time I think about it during the day, it takes every bit of willpower I have to not come looking for you. Do you feel the same.” He met her gaze and she could easily read the answer there. “If that is love, and I believe it is, then I love you Astaroth Dwyn.”

"Don't be stupid." Kelevra slid over to the fallen Ruby and checked for a pulse. Clearly the Hellcats were often keen on killing their targets, and possibly even effective at it. But Ruby was breathing, even if only slightly. Sorrin was dead, and it looked like Darren might have been as well. "Don't just assume they're dead, do something!" Kelevra barked orders at the arena attendants with as much authority in his tone as he could muster. Even though he had no authority, they set to it.

"This one's alive as well." It was Darren.

Kelevra picked up Ruby and cradled her in his arms while the attendants grabbed Darren. "Follow us to the infirmary." Kelevra did, and when they arrived, Kelevra set Ruby down on a cot and let the physicians get to working on her. Kelevra stayed nearby, but out of the way. He wanted to know all that was going on. These were two people that had made the decision to protect him, and he would do the same.

Reports came into the infirmary, and Kelevra listened, and sighed, and even though he did not personally believe, he said a prayer for Dyllan and Sorrin, just in case they had believed in some god.

A couple hours passed before Darren stirred and woke, Kelevra stood and walked to the side of his cot. "Did we win?"

"The Baron seems more angry with the Hellcats. So I would say we may have lost the battle, but won the war... Sorrin died in the fight... And so did Dyllan... I'm sorry."

Darren, usually full of words, said nothing for several minutes, then looked back to Kelevra. "What of Ruby?"

"She's not going to be in fighting shape for a while. One of the Hellcats stabbed her in the stomach. It's a deep wound, and the poison coating the weapons has done extra damage. The physicians are still tending to her in the other room, but they are confident that she will survive."

Dyllan sighed and sat up in his cot, wincing at the pain he felt in his back and neck. "What did the Baron say about the fight?"

"He thought you were all dead. I was the only one that thought to check and make sure. But the Hellcats were taken down several ranks for breaking the rules of the match. Things may change now, since you and Ruby are alive, but the Baron wanted me to choose who would replace the four of you."

"Interesting... Any ideas as to who you would have chosen?"

"Other than the four of you, the only I've met so far were the girl that brought me my schedule... And the Hellcats. But I'd rather avoid them."

"A wise choice."

"Once you and Ruby have made a decent recovery, I'm going to insist on giving Sorrin and Dyllan a proper burial. I don't know how deaths are handled here."

"They're handled too often for anyone to care. Most bodies are just thrown out and picked apart by the wildlife. And occasionally bodies are brought to the kitchens and cooked before being given to the less compliant slaves kept in the torture chambers."

"That's barbaric. I'm going to try to make sure that doesn't happen to your brother and Sorrin."

Darren huffed. "You aren't a prince here, lad... You can't make demands... You're going to get a beating."

"Where I come from, we honor the dead. Especially if they are family. I'll take as many beatings as I have to to give our team a proper burial."

"If you could take us to Fellglow Keep, it would be a great kindness." Rune sighed and used his spit to wet his lips. They still stung when anything, even moisture touched them. "There are talented physicians there, and it will give those of us capable some opportunities for work. That is all that I would ask of you." If they complied, the moment they were in Fellglow Keep, and these people left them, they would head to the meeting place to find Gadget and send word to Eliias Crowley, informing him of all that had happened.

He would also begin a search for Isolde and Vex, as well as Elly. It would have been enough to set them adrift, but her attempt to murder Gore and Chef had been two steps too far. "Tell Master Weeks that I wish to meet with him over dinner. Tell him I want to discuss the budget for the queen's coronation." Eliias turned on his heel and walked quickly in order to catch up with the queen, while the messenger set off in the opposite direction to deliver the message to the Master of Coin. Eliias tucked the note into his pocket as he fell in beside the queen.

They walked in silence until they reached his study, and then after turning the key and opening the door, Eliias ushered her inside. "The notes are here." Eliias swept them off his desk and placed them in a leather covering before handing them to the queen. "You will find that Peter was also looking into something about a Vorlander Solaris. We know the man is one of business. Almost as wealthy as the royal families... Almost. The man has made himself known these last few months. He has lost businesses in Rochford, and some in Acaelus are starting to be absorbed as well. Currently, we know that he resides in Elysia... Likely in close proximity to the Queen.

"Peter wanted to consult with Vorlander Solaris on a business venture, but never got around to sending for him."
Eliias handed her one of the journals. "It is mentioned in here, the second to last entry. Peter had an idea for a new weapon that, as he described, would give an army an advantage from the skies. It sounds like a fantasy to me, and it would be expensive... That is why he wanted to have Vorlander Solaris help with the funding toward it...

"Since you are to be the new queen, whether or not this is worth looking into is your choice."

"Send this to Vorlander Solaris at once. He is currently in Elysia." He handed the sealed note to the messenger and watched as it was placed on a raven and sent away. Once the bird faded from view, Slevin turned on his heel and ran back to the forge. He had already looked over the forge more than a dozen times, each time knowing it was useless. All his weapons were there, all his shields, every piece of armor.

But what mattered most was the one thing that was missing. He had looked about the forge, hoping against hope that he had simply moved it and didn't remember, but it was nowhere to be seen. His safe was gone. Despite how difficult it would be to open, it was likely going to be just as impossible to find... But he needed to find it. It contained everything that mattered to him and his family. The formula and mixtures for coloring steel, the gems he used to decorate his creations, the ledger that showed his customers and their orders. Luckily, he had a copy of that last one, but it wouldn't do much good for those that had ordered colored steel.

The note he had sent to Vorlander had been short and simple.

"Vorlander Solaris,

My safe has been stolen.
Inside were the plans for your cannon. This safe is just as important to you as it is to me. Those plans have your name on them, as well as the name of your alchemist. If whoever stole the safe figures out how to open it, the contents will be enough to make you an enemy of every kingdom.

Help me find it.
Slevin Acaelus."

With nothing left to do, he returned home, hoping that Fae would be able to do something to soothe his thoughts. When he walked through the door, he saw his wife sitting on the sofa with the baby in her arms. He slid onto the couch and rested his head on her lap. "We're in trouble, Fae."

“Fellglow Keep!? Yeah, I’d say that’d be doing a kindness. They aren’t exactly right off the shore kid.” He ran his fingers through his hair. It’d be impossible for him to get a ride with anyone else. He didn’t have any money…No way to pay for passage for himself, more or less his friends-one of which needed constant attending.

He rubbed his lips with the back of his hand, noticing that he was having trouble with his own. He fished a small tin of ointment from his pocket. “That should help.” He tossed it to him. He easily caught it. They had a cart, and could easily hire a mule to pull it. There was no way the one with the broken back would be sitting astride a horse…The others could manage, but not that one. “You’re sure you don’t want to leave him to be cared for here?” He knew by the look. “Fine. Let me see if anyone is willing to take you to Fellglow Keep. If no one wants to go that far inland. We‘re getting paid to take this one and the others to Haven, so I‘ll be stopping on the coast of Elysia and we‘ll be on our way. If any of my men wish to take you to Fellglow Keep, then the ship will take you as far as it can and my men will escort you the rest of the way. I‘ll also inquire about two women popping up along the shores.”

He was muttering about stubborn idiots as he walked away. He spoke to the Healers about his female companions, but none of them had heard anything. Someone nearby was eavesdropping and he grabbed her. “Hear anything you like sweetheart?” The girl smiled. “My father is a herald. There is a Temple in Neverspring that took in two women quite a few days ago. They washed up onto the shore and someone found them. One of the guards said the one that was walking looked like a one woman army. The other one looked near death, she’d been stabbed and it was a miracle she was still alive. She was pale as a ghost. He wasn’t told to announce it, but if anyone came inquiring about anything similar to let them know.”

Aryk smiled and gave the girl a gold coin for her trouble. He could spare it. It might be false hope, but it was more than the boy had now. He walked back up to Rune. “Four of my men will escort you and yours to Fellglow Keep. A girl mentioned that her father is a herald. He had news of two women found on the shores of Neverspring. One looked like a walking army, the other had been stabbed and the ones who saw her didn’t think she should even be alive. If you want to send an inquiry, back by dawn.” He looked around to his men. “That goes for the rest of you too! Find a bath house! You’re all starting to stink.” He laughed at the mixture of cheers and jeers that followed.
