What would you give up to have a perfect life? How about everything. Unfortunately, you were never given that choice. Stolen from your home, your family, your companions. You’ve lost everything you’ve ever known, and the worst part is this; you’ll never know it. Welcome to the floating isle, where dreams and delusions thrive.

Welcome to the floating isle, we’re a group rp that aims to mix fantasy settings and intense world building with psychological profiling of our characters to build a fantasy world subtly controlled by their imagination, fears, and memories. As the characters mature, so does the world; collecting lore and characteristics akin to its creators.

As a player, your goal is to create one of the souls plunged into this fantastic world. Although initially they will not remember their mundane lives in the real world, instead replacing those recollections with what they once would have considered “an ideal life,” as memories of their previous existence start to bubble to the surface, they will either grow to love or loathe the constant manipulation at play in the dreamlike paradise they’ve been trapped in.

Hello, everyone! Let me start out by thanking everyone who views this -- it is very much appreciated and we hope you'll consider joining us!

We realize that this can be slightly confusing, as there is a lot here that needs to be elaborated on. You'll find all the information you need on our blog, http://thefloatingisle.tumblr.com/ and we highly recommend that you check it out. However, if you have any questions then we are more than happy to answer them right here in the forums or by PM. Don't hesitate to ask anything that might be on your mind!

☾ THE MAP ☽

You are hedged into the corner of a packed, dimly-lit pub, a din of raucous laughter momentarily pulling you out of your reverie. You seemed to have suffered a brief lapse in memory while staring at a familiar piece of parchment on the wall. The crinkled and age-stained landscape leaves you feeling stupefied, a certain detachment to the entire thing making your tongue itch to find the correct words to label it. Ithaca. That’s right. This is your home, and has been since you were born. You blame your temporary bewilderment on the fact that all of the chunks of land and sea are left nameless, and there is a veritable rainbow of pins stuck in the face of it; perhaps to mark where wayward visitors of the pub are originally from. As your brain blinks back to life, you begin identifying names and titles that had slipped your mind previously. You spot the town you’re in at the moment, a cozy area named…

Note: The entire land of Ithaca, as stated in the Handbook, will be determined by your characters, their desires, and expectations. This empty map will steadily be filled in with appropriate names and landscapes as we go, the first pieces being implemented once we figure out what kind of place everyone wants to start out in.

☾ APPLICATION ☽

Recently we've ditched the application system, since we're more keen on getting to know our writers on a personal level before accepting them. If you don't have a Tumblr, don't fret! This is a Skype roleplay with some forum elements. We now require an interview with aspiring members over Skype, in which we'll ask you about one or two of your favorite OCs, your writing experience, etc., in order to really wrangle some dedicated members who love this genre as much as we do!

So why am I including the app into this advertisement anyways?

Well, if you showed us your writing chops it most likely wouldn't hurt your chances of being accepted! In fact, it would really help your odds of joining if you at least gave us a sample of your writing, since we are a literate roleplay group. We may turn an interviewee down if they have no proof of intellectual writing.

Aside from that, most of the information on the app form still applies. The only difference is you'll be speaking with us in a chat over Skype, and the purpose of it will be to simply see that you're not a troublemaker or anything of the sort so that we can assure everyone in the rpg has a good time!

For writing samples, feel free to give us links to pre-existing roleplays or solo writing pieces. Anything will do, so long as we have something!
