Cepheus escorted his eldest daughter into the estate where Lady Dorian received her to take over the comforting job, which was not Cepheus' specialty. Once inside, he held a brief meeting with all of the heads of his security for his house and city. "Two guild members this morning alone have breached the walls of my city and my home. This will not be tolerated! Until we can make certain another guild member has not breached our walls, I want the gate patrol doubled, validating the identity of every person who comes in and out of our gates. If you see any, and I mean any, suspicious activity, you will report it straight to me. Am I understood? I will not see anymore bloodshed in my city." "Yes, my lord!" The guards replied in unison, taking their leave.

Rubbing the temples of his forehead, Lord Dorian made his way to the drawing room where he kept his stationary. A guild was the most believable assassin of his future son-in-law. However, there was still one person that Lord Dorian wanted to speak with. He sat at his desk, pulling out a scroll and writing:

                                            Kelevra LeCarde,

I hope this letter finds you and well and happy. I have been informed of your presence in the city and request you to meet with me as soon as possible. The matter of which I want to discuss cannot be trusted to a raven.

                                            Lord Cepheus Dorian

After imprinting his royal seal, Cepheus gave the letter to one of his servants who immediately took it to the Aviary, which was still being cleaned. The raven chosen was one of Dorian's best and was not distracted by all of the "meat" laying about the room. The servant sent the raven off and returned to Lord Dorian. "Good. See to it someone watches the door for our guest. I have other matters to attend to." The first guild member had been impersonating one of his own advisers. Cepheus had to make sure none of the others in his house had been hidden in closets or worse.

"You have a fine staff. They did well, did they not?"

They would not be my staff if they were not the best.” Overlord Slade was congratulating himself for his staff, she was a vision in white. She was breathtaking in her looks and her attitude towards himself and the court. It was…. Refreshing.

Sit down my dear. I believe that we will get along just fine. We will be having roasted Pork this evening. I do hope that is acceptable, the kitchens can make something else for you if you’d prefer.

Just to impress her he used his Physical Manipulation powers to lift the wine jug and her wine glass to pour her a drink and set it in front of her. He hoped that tonight would be…. Stimulating for the both of them.

Kelevra sat at the bar, drinking a cup of wine. He was by no means drunk, but he still felt off. The barkeep had no interest in speaking with him and Kelevra didn't mind in the least. He had no interest in speaking with anyone either. It had been quite some time since Victor and his lady friend had gone upstairs, and they hadn't even shown their faces yet. They must be ********]

Kelevra still didn't believe the woman was a whore. But perhaps Victor's wife or lover. He had never asked Victor if he was married, and it didn't seem unlikely. He was a man of high status, and it made sense for him to be married by his age. He didn't have his own home here in Dorian, and Lord Dorian more than likely wanted them gone while the murder scene was being cleaned up... So where better to shag than the finest inn in the city?

"Kelevra LeCarde?!" A voice shouted from the door.

Kelevra spun in his seat and looked to who had said it. It was a man, dressed in light armor. Nothing more than a chain-mail hauberk, embroidered with the crest of the Dorian Family, and a pair of pants and boots. A guard. But not a soldier.

"Kelevra LeCarde?!" He shouted again.

"That would be me, sir." Kelevra spoke up and stood from his stool.

The guard stepped forward and held out a piece of paper with Lord Dorian's unbroken seal. "This arrived in the Aviary a few minutes ago. A summons, I believe."

"Thank you." Kelevra said. The man spun on his heel and left the inn. Kelevra looked at the rolled letter and debated whether or not to open it. But it was a summons. There would be no doubt that Kelevra had received it. Not showing up would make him look guilty. But he loathed the idea of standing before Lord Dorian.

Kelevra broke the seal and read. Sure enough, the guard was right. Kelevra was being summoned to the castle. "Damn..." Kelevra tossed the man behind the bar a gold coin and left.

... When he finally reached th castle, there were more guards than he thought were necessary. After explaining why he was there, and a few more minutes of verifying he was who he said he was, they let him in. He made his way through the halls, up a small set of stairs and through a pair of large oak doors to the council room. Lord Dorian was seated in his chair at the head of the table.

"You called for me?" Kelevra asked, purposely neglecting to say 'You called for me, My Lord?'

Once Gilia entered his room he shut the door and locked it. He turned to the young woman and began to speak, “I want to make a few things clear. As of now you are not a Guild Member, you work for me. Your unique talents will help us create an effective network of spies in Slade’s Empire."

He paused for a moment and then summoned a illusion of Kelevra and Varys. Second, I want you to start looking for these men in the city, as soon as possible. I have reason to believe that they are coming, or are already here.

Third, I want you to tell me exactly what happened to your brother, if someone in Dorian is guilty of murder I want them found. This city is one of the last defenses if the Sister Cities fall. Now, have a seat and have some dinner. We’ll talk while we eat.”

He gestured to a chair at the table and took the opposite one. He was beginning to think he was going to enjoy their time together.

"You called for me?" How... casual. Cepheus knew that he was not one of Kelevra's favorite people, not after he had broken off Kelevra's engagement with his eldest daughter for a better suitor. The two of them had not exactly spoken or seen each other since this incident. With a small sigh, Cepheus gestured to a chair and said in monotone, "Have a seat." If Lord Dorian had one pet peeve, it would be people who did not know their place, and Kelevra seemed as if he might need some reminding of what his place was.

"Kelevra, your personal beliefs aside, I consider myself a fair man. So, when I ask you this, please do not assume that I am accusing you of anything. Do you know what happened in the Aviary today? My daughter's fiance was murdered brutally. A little convenient considering our last meeting, don't you think? Like I said before, do not think I am accusing you because I am not. I am simply observing the details and looking for more information. Do you have any information about this? I know you have been traveling. Perhaps, you have heard something about someone wanting to attack my family? Any information you could provide would be most appreciated."

Cepheus paused now, giving Kelevra a chance to speak. Did he really think Kelevra had returned to Dorian after all this time to kill his daughter's soon to be husband? Not entirely. However, Lord Dorian wanted to rule out all possibilities in order to find the answers quickly. The message the supposed assassin left was curious as well. "Courtesy of the Overlord." A guild member could have left that to confuse everyone. Then again, Kelevra, here, was considered a rogue, no affiliation with the families or guilds. If Kelevra was the assassin, then part of his problem would be easily solved. So, in a way, Cepheus wanted Kelevra to be responsible for this.

After Gilia entered the room, Victor closed the door and said, “I want to make a few things clear. As of now you are not a Guild Member, you work for me. Your unique talents will help us create an effective network of spies in Slade’s Empire." No longer a guild member? Well, Gilia had not been involved in the Faceless Guild for long. It was not as if she had spent years in the guild, like her brother, ranking up with missions. She was not really losing any rank with this. However, she was concerned about Faelan hearing of this. Would he send an assassin after her? If she had not taken the drink containing the Faceless magic, he probably would have let her go. But, she had indeed taken the drink, so surely, there would be consequences.

Victor did not give her much time to think about that before he added, "I want you to start looking for these men in the city, as soon as possible. I have reason to believe that they are coming, or are already here." Gilia analyzed the two men Victor had cast in an illusion. The second man, the one with golden hair, sent a shiver down Gilia's spine, one she could not explain. Something about him frightened her, but she could not put her finger on it. What did these two men have to do with anything? What did it matter if they were in Dorian? Were they guild members? Were they dangerous?

Again, Victor gave her something else to think about before she could answer any of her thoughts, "Third, I want you to tell me exactly what happened to your brother, if someone in Dorian is guilty of murder I want them found. This city is one of the last defenses if the Sister Cities fall. Now, have a seat and have some dinner. Lord Dorian, ever polite, offered Kelevra a seat...

Kelevra stayed standing.

Now Kelevra sat... It was an accusation. Or at least a hopeful incrimination. But Kelevra couldn't find it in himself to care anymore.

"The guard at the gate said he was cut into bits and pieces." Kelevra said, nonchalantly. "Honestly, I can't say I haven't thought about killing him... Or you for that matter. The last month has been tough, and I've been angry and lost." Kelevra placed his feet on the table and reclined the seat back, making himself more at home than he should have, given the severity of the situation. "I have no heirs, and I have no other women to woo, no backup plans for marriages. My bloodline will either die out or lose it's nobility. Surely you can't find it odd that I would have such dark thoughts. But no... I did not kill him. Nor do I know who did."

Kelevra let his seat drop back to the floor noisily, then leaned in to the table and placed his chin on his folded arms. "I'm sorry for your loss. Truly, I am. I'm sure that marriage would have given you more wealth and more soldiers to aid you in the war. But I would have loved your daughter. She would have loved me. And you traded that for gold and swords. So pardon me for my lack of empathy."

Andraste felt butterflies form in her stomach as she realized he was trying to impress her. That he wanted her. She calmly smiled at him as she took a sip of her wine, but if she had been a weaker lady she would've been in tears. She was a virgin, sworn to chastity until the day she was wed, and so far she was sure that the Overlord was very intent on bedding her that night.

She put the cup down and stood up. She'd promised herself she'd make herself different. "Again, I must tell you how honored I am that you would have a girl like me dine with you." She ran her right hand along the dark wood as she approached Slade. She caught his eye just in time to momentarily distract him for an illusion. The dress appeared to fall off of her body in shimmery pieces, her smile growing as she used physical manipulation to push both the Overlord and the chair back. Gods, she hoped she knew what she was doing or this was going to get messy.

"Let me make this clear to you, your Majesty. I am not another one of your mistresses." She began, as the illusion faded and she leaned down in front of him, running her fingers down his jaw. "I bet you thought that an angel swept you off of your feet." She laughed. "Well, Slade, not even close." Their lips were so close they nearly touched, but Andraste pulled back and moved back to her seat swiftly, just in time for their dinner to arrive.

Her hands shook in her lap as her fiery gaze took the Overlord's once more, just to catch his reaction to her display.

                              "Iryx!"

Iryx ignored the urgent voice calling her name, continuing to kiss the gorgeous woman she had pressed between her and the wall. The other woman seemed a little distressed by it, but Iryx soothed her by smiling and running a hand down the leg that was hooked around her waist.

                              "IRYX!"

She busied herself with unlacing the woman's dress, kissing her neck before yelling back. "What the [********] do you want so badly that you see fit to interrupt my time with this lovely lady?" The pounding of a fist on the big wooden door did little to deter her, but apparently her partner found it to be a major turn off. Iryx dropped her, losing interest before walking over to throw the door open.

The guard looked at her in awe, pleased with the fact that she was clad in lingerie only. "What, you act as if you've never seen breasts, my friend. Your mother fed you, surely." She snorted, turning behind her to whisper. "'m pretty sure that's the only time he's ever seen 'em."

"M'lady, you're needed at the theater immediately. The actress who was to play tonight broke her leg after she fell-"

"Through the stairs?" Iryx laughed. She'd volunteered to tell the actress that the stairs had rotted out, but seeing as she was the only person up there who used them as an entryway, it was useless. That and, Iryx didn't like her. "Oh, what a shame! I'll be right there."

                              - - - -

Iryx smiled at the poor actress, who now was being tended to be doctors just offstage. "Darling, break a leg is a figure of speech!" She spat, wrinkling her nose before moving onstage to hear the cheers of her crowd. If the other b***h had any sense, she wouldn't come back.

At this, Cepheus wondered if he should have stationed a few guards in the room with them. However, he assumed that Kelevra was smart enough not to try anything of the sort in Lord Dorian's own home. Then again, many a strange things had happened under his roof today. "I have no heirs, and I have no other women to woo, no backup plans for marriages. My bloodline will either die out or lose it's nobility. Surely you can't find it odd that I would have such dark thoughts. But no... I did not kill him. Nor do I know who did."

Cepheus could have cared less about how Kelevra had been fairing, despite the pleasantries in his letter. The young man finally got around to answering Lord Dorian's question at the end, stating that he had not nor knew who killed the noble. The question was whether or not his word could be trusted. Cepheus' attention was distracted at Kelevra's... disregard for manners, propping his feet on the table and what not, unwittingly pressing Lord Dorian's buttons. With a bang, his guest let his chair hit the floor and said, "I'm sorry for your loss. Truly, I am. I'm sure that marriage would have given you more wealth and more soldiers to aid you in the war. But I would have loved your daughter. She would have loved me. And you traded that for gold and swords. So pardon me for my lack of empathy."

The hint of bitterness in the man's voice did not miss Cepheus' ears nor did his blatant accusation. Suddenly, Lord Dorian stood from his chair and firmly placed his hands on the table. "Listen to me, boy. I have tolerated you until this point. I could have had you arrested upon entering my city for being suspected of being the murderer, but I did not. I made the false assumption that you could be mature enough to sit and have a conversation with me. In my last attempt to have faith in you, and believe me when I say my last, I do not hold you responsible for my son-in-laws death. Until I can find the true assassin, you need to leave this city. No matter what thoughts of hope you have in your arrogant, little head. I still stand by my decision from our last conversation and find you an unfitting suitor for my daughter."

After letting all that steam out, Cepheus returned to his seat, waiting for Kelevra to leave, so he could return to changing the security of Dorian.

Kelevra scoffed and looked at Lord Dorian coldly. "He wasn't your son-in-law, Cepheus. He didn't live long enough for that honor..." Kelevra averted his gaze to the door. He'd figured he had already gotten what he wanted. He'd spoken with Lord Dorian and let him know just what he felt. It was over at this point. Had he not been the son of Lord Dorian's trusted advisor, he would have already been thrown in a prison. Of that he was sure.

He stepped to the door, and turned to the Lord of the city one last time. "It's humorous in a sense, that you don't find me to be a proper suitor for your daughter. After my travels, I have to agree with you. But I still hate you. Tell my father that I'm sorry. I'm renouncing my title, and my claim as his heir." Kelevra left the room, closing the doors behind him. His heart was beating faster than he thought it could. He was amazed at his own boldness. A month and a half ago, he would have shown Lord Dorian the utmost respect. But now, he just hated him, and his tongue refused to convey anything but his hatred when speaking to Cepheus Dorian.

Kelevra made it out of the castle and went back to the inn. He was without gold, and only had a horse. After this encounter, and given his current situation, he knew exactly what his next move was.

"You failed, Ezra." Guild Master Kestus said "First time for everything, I suppose."

"You may see it as failing. I see it as redefining success." Ezra said with an arrogant smile.

"And how is that? Your orders were clear. Kill the girl, prevent their marriage." The Guild Master looked calm, but he always looked calm. He could have been furious, and Ezra never would have known.

"But instead I killed the double agent, preventing their marriage, and brought you proof that he was working for Slade. Had I killed the girl, who is to say that Lord Dorian wouldn't just marry his next daughter off to Slade's spy? Who is to say he wouldn't have made him an advisor out of sympathy?"

"But your orders were --"

"They were stupid, and half-assed thoughts of a man seeking nothing more than to strike at a Family of Power for revenge. Perhaps you have forgotten that us guilds don't indulge in revenge. We deliver justice and retribution. We only kill those who need killing, and those who see the things they shouldn't. There was no reason for Lord Dorian's daughter to die."

"Your orders were a test, Ezra."

"...Excuse me?" Ezra wasn't sure he heard right.

"You did the right thing. Had you followed the orders exactly as written, you wouldn't have received your promotion. We don't make murderers in the guild. We make assassins. You aren't supposed to like your job. You're just supposed to do it. You demonstrated judgement. Well done. You're promoted."

"You gambled with a young girls life in order to test me?"

"Yes. And you passed, because you have a conscience. Now get out of my office and fiddle with your new poisons."

"Uhmmm... Ok." Ezra left immediately, but not before grabbing his new key for the Shadows' poison storage.

Overlord Slade's Prophetess
When you were standing in the wake of devastation
when you were waiting on the edge of the unknown
with the cataclysm raining down, insides crying save me now
you were there and possibly alone.

Tristan sat at one end of a long table in the dining hall. There were a few guards sitting near her. As she gripped onto a gauntlet of wine, images flooded through her mind. She saw what was happening in Overlord Slade's chambers. It disgusted her, and made her angry. 'He's mine', she thought to herself.

As the young woman focused on her master, she started to see something in Dorian.. One of her master's servants was killed. This meant that he would not have supporters in the city anymore. Tristan attempted to see more, but her magic was weakening her a lot. She snapped herself from the vision, only to find herself in the arms of one of the guards.

"Wha..what?"
"You fell.."
"Get away from me."

The prophetess pushed the guard away, and stood up with the help of her staff. She started to walk to Overlord Slade's chambers, despite the exhaustion she was experiencing. She was determined to tell him of the events that had occurred, and to interrupt the dinner between him and Andraste. Because love and foresight were two things that were always obscure, she didn't want to give Andraste a chance to form a relationship with Overlord Slade. Unfortunately for her own sake, she had to rest on her way to Overlord Slade's chamber. She needed to recuperate some stamina.

I don't know where my brother was murdered... He was on a mission for the Faceless Guild. All I know is he did not return on time and was pronounced dead. My father and other brother were murdered here though... Cygnas never told me why.

That is interesting, we’ll need to ask around very quietly for information. I’m not willing to trust many people here, especially now that the Guild seems intent on causing chaos in this area. However, now that I have your attention, I have something for you.”

He drew from his robes a small medallion engraved with the crest of his house. This is a Mark of my House. Have it on you at all times. This will grant you limited protection when dealing with guards and other situations you may find yourself in while working for me. He handed it to her and then took a bite of his chicken and almost gagged, it was stone cold! Excuse me, I’m going to see the innkeeper about heating this food, I spoke for too long.

He hurried out of the room and down the stairs to find the last person on Drathia he expected to find in Dorian… Kelevra.

Hello… Kelevra.

“That is interesting, we’ll need to ask around very quietly for information. I’m not willing to trust many people here, especially now that the Guild seems intent on causing chaos in this area. However, now that I have your attention, I have something for you.” Ask around? Her father and brother were killed over six years ago. Who could they possibly ask for information? Victor's last sentence caught her attention. A gift? For her? Gilia could not help but feel curious and anxious for what Victor had for her. “This is a Mark of my House. Have it on you at all times. This will grant you limited protection when dealing with guards and other situations you may find yourself in while working for me.”

Gilia took the medallion in her hands, examining it in awe. The crest of his family was quite beautiful. After she had placed the medallion around her neck, she looked at Victor with a smile, "Thank you." Even though he was supposedly her enemy before today, for a member of a family of power, he was certainly treating her very nicely. Why did they hate the guilds so much? The thought of Faelan still bothered her, so she shifted her thoughts to what missions Victor might have her perform. Gathering information like she was supposed to do as a Masked Woman, more than likely.

Victor almost gagged on his food, which caught her attention, “Excuse me, I’m going to see the innkeeper about heating this food, I spoke for too long.” After he had left the room, she tasted the chicken as well to find that the food had indeed become cold as they had talked. As she waited for Victor's return, Gilia took a sip of her drink, which tasted fine, especially compared to the cold chicken. How long would he be? A minute or two? What would they talk about when he returned? Having nothing else to do, Gilia looked at the medallion around her neck, turning it back and forth with her hand idly.
