Only a year ago, Kikuto shared the Savannah with a pride of lions known as Vumbi, once the clan grew of a certain size hey were capable of over throwing the lions and chasing them from their newly claimed territory. Now, The Kikuto Clan is one of the most largest clans known among the Serengeti, and with the current Matriarch, Mira, in charge they are getting bigger for the respect is high. But of course being strong is no flaw within their ranks. They are extremely territorial and in their mind, after all they are the biggest clan within Africa. Will Kikuto gain more land, will they find other clans? Or will their be an inevitable war within their future?

Hyena's come in four different species. The Spotted hyena, the Brown Hyena, the Striped hyena and the Aardwolf. The more popular of the four species is the Spotted hyena, better known as the laughing hyena. The hyena has a rather strong neck, allowing it to have an exceptionally strong bite force. Where the front part of its body is strong and masculine, the back legs are rather underdeveloped. With no significant amount of muscles. Their coat base is a pale greyish-brown or a yellowish-grey. And their bodies are covered in irregular pattern of spots differentiating in size and colors. Their chest and belly are usually clear of spots and their lips are predominantly black. Although phylogenetically close to felines, hyenas are behaviorally and morphological similar to canines in several aspects; both hyenas and canines are nonarboreal, cursorial hunters that catch prey with their teeth rather than claws. Both eat food quickly and may store it, and their calloused feet with large, blunt, nonretractable nails are adapted for running and making sharp turns. However, the hyenas' grooming, scent marking, defecating habits, mating, and parental behaviour are consistent with the behaviour of other felines. Although long reputed to be cowardly scavengers, hyenas, especially spotted hyenas, kill as much as 95% of the food they eat, and have been known to drive off leopards or lionesses from their kills. Hyenas are primarily nocturnal animals, but may venture from their lairs in the early-morning hours. With the exception of the highly social spotted hyena, hyenas are generally not gregarious animals, though they may live in family groups and congregate at kills.

                          A N A T O M Y
The spotted hyena has a strong and well developed neck and forequarters, but relatively underdeveloped hindquarters. The rump is rounded rather than angular, which prevents attackers coming from behind from getting a firm grip on it. The head is wide and flat with a blunt muzzle and broad rhinarium. Each foot has four digits, which are webbed and armed with short, stout and blunt claws. Unusually among hyaenids, and mammals in general, the female spotted hyena is considerably larger than the male. The spotted hyena has a proportionately large heart, constituting close to 1% of its body weight, thus giving it great endurance in long chases. In contrast, a lion's heart makes up only 0.45–0.57 percent of its body weight.

The spotted hyena has an extensive vocal range, with sounds ranging from whoops, fast whoops, grunts, groans, lows, giggles, yells, growls, soft grunt-laughs, loud grunt-laughs, whines and soft squeals. The loud "who-oop" call, along with the maniacal laughter, are among the most recognizable sounds of Africa. Typically, very high-pitched calls indicate fear or submission, while loud, lower-pitched calls express aggression. The pitch of the laugh indicates the hyena's age, while variations in the frequency of notes used when hyenas make noises convey information about the animal's social rank.

Hyena's have a very complex and wide area of body language and vocalization. Body language is very similar to that of pack animals, such as wolves. When a low ranking member goes to great a high ranking member, they will walk on the knees of their forelegs in as a sigh of submission. When a hyena is afraid their ears will flatten back and their mane to stay pressed against their neck. When attacking, their mane bristles and their tail stand erect. Before and during an assertive attack, the hyena's head is held high with their ears erect, mouth closed and mane erect and hindquarters held high. When the animal is in fear or feeling the need to flee, their tail is pressed against their belly. When the animal is happy or about to attack, their tails are held up above their back. Greeting ceremonies consist of the animals standing parallel to each other facing opposite direction grooming one another. Their vocalization, again like their body language, come in a wide verity. Ranging from whoops, fast whoops, grunts, groans, lows, giggles, yells, growls, soft grunt-laughs, loud grunt-laughs, whines and soft squeals. The Spotted Hyena is known as the laughing hyena, to the grunting sound it makes when harassing others.

The hyena Hierarchy is STRICKLTY Matriarchal and clan based.. Males hold no high position above females. Hyena's social status are similar to that of apes. Where you are born is where your position is based. If a female was born under the lead female, she is of higher standing than that of an adult female as a hunter. Males mean nothing in hyena society but to help bring in cubs. The least subordinate female of the clan is still higher ranking than the highest ranking male. If a female is born to a hunter than a hunter that female will be, even if she is no good at the position. The Spotted hyena have a very complex way at looking t their clan members. Often being kinder to those who are more useful than another. Hyena's can live in clans from ten up to eighty members. Where there is one Queen, she will have under her, those in the clan she respect higher than others and will rely on them to react to insubordination.

                          C O U R T S H I P & B R E E D I N G
Female hyena's don't have a specific season in which they go into heat, but tend to go into heat so when their cubs are born, it times well with the wet season. Females are in heat for two weeks and in that time, they will be with many partners often copulating with a male they are more familiar with, compared to a male who had just recently joined the clan. Males who are more passive will breed more than aggressive males. Mating is a difficult process seeing how a Hyena's genitalia are different than other mammals. In stead of vaginal copulation and births a female hyena has a pseudo-p***s. The pseudo-p***s is in actuality the clitoris that hangs more like a male. The vaginal are of hyena's is closed up by a false scrotum and testes. Copulation between male and female is done alone and in the cover of night, due to the tricky mating process. A hyena's pregnancy is up too a hundred and ten days, like a lion, but they give birth in dens. During the pregnancy, females of higher ranks tend to produce higher levels of androgen which causes the cubs, once born to be very aggressive. The birthing process is very difficult for females and normally only two cubs are born. Unlike other mammalia, hyena cubs are born with their eyes opened and six to seven mm long canines with four mm long incisors. Hyena cubs are born with soft brownish black fur that slowly changes to the coloring of the adults at two to three months. Upon birth, hyena cubs will start attacking each other, asserting dominance. The strong of the cubs often kills its siblings. In Hyena clans, its survival of the fittest. Male cubs that survive will grow faster that their sisters. Cubs will drink milk for twelve to sixteen months, even though they will begin to eat meat as early as three months.

                          H U N T I N G & F E E D I N G
Unlike other large African carnivores, spotted hyenas do not preferentially prey on any species, and only buffalo and giraffe are significantly avoided. Spotted hyenas prefer prey with a body mass range of 56–182 kg (123.5–401 lb). When hunting medium to large sized prey, spotted hyenas tend to select certain categories of animal; young animals are frequently targeted, as are old ones, though the latter category is not so significant when hunting zebras, due to their aggressive antipredator behaviours. The spotted hyena tracks live prey by sight, hearing and smell. Carrion is detected by smell and the sound of other predators feeding. During daylight hours, it watches vultures descending upon carcasses. Its auditory perception is powerful enough for it to detect sounds of predators killing prey or feeding on carcasses over distances of up to 10 km (6 miles). Unlike the grey wolf, the spotted hyena relies more on sight than smell when hunting, and does not follow its prey's prints or travel in single file. Small prey is killed by being shaken in the mouth, while large prey is eaten alive.

Spotted hyenas usually hunt wildebeest either singly, or in groups of two or three. They catch adult wildebeest usually after 5 km (3 mile) chases at speeds of up to 60 km/h (37 miles/h). Chases are usually initiated by one hyena and, with the exception of cows with calves, there is little active defense from the wildebeest herd. Wildebeest will sometimes attempt to escape hyenas by taking to water though, in such cases, the hyenas almost invariably catch them. Zebras require different hunting methods to those used for wildebeest, due to their habit of running in tight groups and aggressive defense from stallions. Typical zebra hunting groups consist of 10–25 hyenas, though there is one record of a hyena killing an adult zebra unaided. During a chase, zebras typically move in tight bunches, with the hyenas pursuing behind in a crescent formation. Chases are usually relatively slow, with an average speed of 15–30 km/h. A stallion will attempt to place himself between the hyenas and the herd, though once a zebra falls behind the protective formation it is immediately set upon, usually after a chase of 3 km (1.8 miles). Though hyenas may harass the stallion, they usually only concentrate on the herd and attempt to dodge the stallion's assaults. Unlike stallions, mares typically only react aggressively to hyenas when their foals are threatened. Unlike wildebeest, zebras rarely take to water when escaping hyenas. When hunting Thomson's gazelles, spotted hyenas usually operate alone, and prey primarily on young fawns. Chases against both adult and young gazelles can cover distances of 5 km (3 miles) with speeds of 60 km/h (37 miles/h). Female gazelles do not defend their fawns, though they may attempt to distract hyenas by feigning weakness. Hyena's have special glands and stomach acid that enable them to eat everything, bones and all.

                          E N E M I E S & C O M P E T I T O R S
Hyena's and lions don't get along to well. Both groups will readily try and steal each others kills. Lions will push their way through to take over a kill where Hyena's harass lionesses on kills. When Hyena's outnumber a group of lionesses four to one they'll easily chase them off. When lion's aren't their primary group competitor's, its the Africa Wild dog. Hyena's are known to actively follow packs of wild dogs to take over their kills. Other competitor are the cheetahs and leopard's. Where lions would fight off hyena's, leopards and cheetahs run.

Top-ranking females have priority of access to any meals they may come across. This rank also increases the reproductive success in comparison with low-ranking females.

The highest ranked of the two parents will have the choice to murder their weaker kin in order to guarantee success of their name. Outside of the breeding ring, the heir's are considered the second highest rank of hyena clans. After all, relations between one another are largely important. However the hierarchy goes that the younger female pups are higher than the older female offspring.

This will be a post action, you choose a random number within the drop down list on the right hand side of the box you type your post within. Make sure you have the correct numbers starting at 1 and ending on the last increment of your specific rank.

Three misses in a row is a failed hunt.
At least half of the hunting party need to get a hit in order for the hunt to be successful.
So, if 4 hunt - 2 need to get hits.
5 hunt - 3 need to get hits.
6 hunt - 3 need to get hits and so on so forth.
                          You may each roll twice.

Also, when fighting let's try and keep it to three attacks each to determine who wins or if it's a tie.

Literate, realistic wolf role play; Both Uktena [the tranquil and trusting wolves], and Sioux [the vicious and cannibalistic wolves] are fighting for territory within the same forest. Will one pack prevail and take over the other?
