The year is 1944. The world might be at war, but in here...inside Batemea Penitentiary, there is no sense of time, day, night, or even "war". The world is at war but there are still criminals. This prison stands within the state of Georgia, and not many get out of it alive. However there is one place where the people, all of them, seem to be close. Like family. Well, here there is no hope for these criminals, they need someone but their family has forsaken them, disowned them for their heinous crimes. And here, they await death by electric chair, as proclaimed by state Law.
Some that have grown close to the guard are still alive. They will all die eventually, but on good behavior, you get to live longer. But in the end, all must go.
Please no posting without permission. To obtain permission fill out a profile code using the coding provided. Send this to me via private message labeled "Behind Bars". Most death sentenced people are murderers, keep that in mind. However they can be accidental or not the real criminal. I don't want everyone being innocent but believed guilty though. Also we need guards too, I am accepting five of each.

God Moding is not acceptable, people hurt, bleed, get hit, and miss now and then too. Auto hitting is acceptable IF you discuss it with the person first and it is alright for both involved parties. So if you see auto hitting, it is 100% fine if both people have agreed to it.
Fights. These can be done more than one way, with the previous method involving discussed auto hitting above or as follows: OOC it out. Use the ooc thread or the pad chat. Make it simple *star text 'throws punch'* bull. Once the fight is done, discuss who will post the entire thing and include with the post an ooc saying it is alright for this to have been done. Don't do it in PM I want to be able to see that it has been done.
Keep ooc posts to the ooc thread, and use the chat room. The password for the Chat is "don't drop the soap".
Keep the beef between each other out of any of the threads or the ooc. We're vegetarians here.

I'm thinking around the corner at the far end from the entrance to the rest of the prison is the guard room, off of that another corridor with some storage and a rubberized solitary room. Most people that would end up in there get put there because they've done something unacceptable, and most definitely put in a huggycoat (lol).
Off of the guard's room is a stairway that leads to the guards' rooms. This door is nearly always locked and by no means is any inmate allowed inside. They aren't large, but not cells either. They are complete with linoleum floors, bed dresser and closet, as well as a small chamber off to one side that contains personal toilets and sinks for each room. Sure, the beds are slightly more comfortable, blankets slightly warmer, but it really isn't all that much better. However, the doors to the individual rooms do not lock.

Cell Specs:
The cells are no more than 4ft squared, maybe five. Each has a small window barred off about seven feet from the floor on the center back wall. The cells run parallel to each other and there's about six total in the corridor. Each has a bed, a little walking space, and a toilet. Not sure what state the plumbing is in though, might be temperamental at most. Like it only flushes sometimes.
The ceilings are also gated with something similar to thick, wide chicken wire. Or like a common chain-link fence. The more agile of inmates try to hang from it. Things can be tossed from cell to cell over the top. This fencing runs directly below the light fixtures.
The front is barred six feet high, followed with a stone panel that runs along over that where the sliding door track runs, followed by another foot of bars then another of stone. However, the cell top runs just under the second length of stone, giving the cell an eight foot height.
Hygiene
There is a semi-large shower room down a short corridor past the cells, where inmates are expected to cleanse themselves once per week on a day assigned to their cell number. Ie; cell one would be Monday. Sundays it isn't used by inmates, for the guards live in the prison as well so to be on call 24 hours a day. Therefore if the guards wish to shower, Sunday is the day they can do it.
Prisoners' hygienic items are a privilege, not a right. Toothbrush and paste, as well as soap are given to each prisoner, kept in a basket which can be stowed where they very well please. Some stick the basket under the bed, others use the shelf on the wall.
Privileges
The privileges are left up to guard discretion. Some will willingly allow the inmates a little walking room while shackled, some of the less harmful inmates have even gotten the privilege of sitting in the guard room. Others get privileges taken away such as meals skipped or items taken away if abused.
Reasons for getting out
Visitors will get the inmates out of their cells, if anyone cares to come visit them. Normal visiting hours are Sunday afternoons but in the odd case a drop in might occur. Especially if the inmate's days are running low. Executions also happen on Sundays; but that is not something the inmates look forward to. Another reason to get out is bathing day. A trip to solitary could get you out of your cell, but only for a short promenade to a smaller one. Lastly, privileges and guard discretion can get inmates out, so behave and you might get lucky.
Meals
Meals are served at eight am, twelve pm, and five pm. Breakfast and Lunch are flavorless gruel, similar to oatmeal. But it's questionable whether it is actually oats. Dinner is a little more hearty, usually a chili, baked beans, or something akin to meat with sloppy joe mix without the buns. It's usually the meal everyone looks forward to in a day, only because it seems to be the best one. Of course, there is the last meal requests, but guards have ways of getting things if they truly want to. At times, they will in fact be kind to those they managed to befriend in this hell hole.
What happens if---
What happens if bathing is refused by the inmate?
Well, cell washout day is every two weeks on the assigned shower day when the cell is empty. This is when sheets are changed and the floors hosed down. If an inmate refuses to shower and it lands on this day, their cell and everything in it is sprayed down with cold water. Meaning cold wet clothing, bedding, everything. Most inmates comply because they don't like the end result.
What happens if an inmate gets an opportunity to run and takes it?
First of all, most of the time inmates get out because the guard has some trust for them, and running while heavily shackled is not easy. Some have tried to run while out on privilege, but they found themselves unable to get out of the block due to the fact that there is locked doors on either side of the block that the guards dont have keys for. It requires a pager call for the guards to even leave the block. So basically once in there is no way out. And only he warden has a key to the execution auditorium so getting out through the door that allows the public to watch is not an option either.
Guards:
They have their living quarters off of the ward, but never far. They reside in the prison for a month or more at a time before getting out and home to see whatever loved ones they have. Some have none therefore work longer periods of time for the prisoners, other guards, they have become their loved ones.
Attire:
As for uniforms its really what you want to do. I'm thinking this has a Green Mile vibe and on there some wear the striped pajamas, some just the pants and a tank, others wearing what they were brought in wearing.

Execution Day
When it gets near that time, there are slightly more privileges permitted. Each prisoner gets to choose a last meal, and where they want to eat it. It could be anything they want as long as funding permits. They can make some requests, and choose whether they want their execution open to the public or not. There is also the opportunity to speak to a chaplain, or to request small favors that doesn't go against the rules.
Prior to execution day, in the days leading up to it, there is a rehearsal. These require the guards involved, the prisoner, and access to the chair. Everything is done as if a real execution, only the lever is never pulled. The power isn't even turned on matter of fact, but some prisoners are scared shitless that it's the real thing.

The Chair: Old Frying Pan
Solitary: Hell-hole, sanitarium, lock-up, handbasket, loonybin, similar names. The guards call it Solitary.
Guard Quarters: Paradise Hotel, s**t row, other rude names
The Cellblock: "Hell's Waiting Room" amongst prisoners, "The Mile" amongst guards.
