It is the year 2036. A decade of vicious war has erased the face of society... for the most part.

Hey there. This is a casual walk-in RP set in a post-apocalyptic USA. Characters of all genders,
ages and sexualities are welcome. And because of the effects of nuclear radiation, you can also
have any sort of odd characteristics, mutations and powers you want. We're always open,
always accepting.

The RP is focused around a nameless diner in the middle of an industrial wasteland - peeling,
cracking and overgrown with weeds, but open for business. There's plenty of dangers around, and
for the most part it isn't exactly a friendly neighborhood. Gangs, thieves and corrupt mutants lurk in
the shadows. But there's hot coffee and sticky buns at the diner, and the owner keeps a shotgun
under his counter to discourage any particularly unpleasant activity. an old motel in the lot across
serves as a residence for some of the employees and regulars.

a sign hangs in one musty yellow window:
open 24/7
hot meals and drinks
pay what you can, trading welcome

and, slightly below it, a second one - hastily written in thick black pen
Help Wanted. See Oliver.

He gave the generator a second solid kick - then a third, before it finally rumbled awake. It's mechanized grumble was startlingly loud in the late morning quiet. He almost genuinely disliked the damn sound, seeing as it reminded him of the choppy beat of helicopter blades. Oliver sure as hell didn't have a single fond memory of helicopters, and if he ever had, well they had all been erased by five years in the so-called war effort.

But no generator, and no power. No power, no coffee. The red neon 'DINER' light flickered to life over his head, and after spending a few moments gazing up at it he shrugged his shoulders and headed inside. Wasn't much to look at.

The place was still a mess, truth be told. Dust and debris were layered under some of the booths, and cracked glass still glittered under that one broken window. He'd shined up the coffee machine, though, and the glass display case on the counter. One thing at a time and eventually this place might look like the war had never happened... well. If you didn't look out the windows, at least. Ollie couldn't even pretend to aspire to that sort of thing, always keeping a wary eye out on the empty spread of the lot around the diner. Wary? Maybe hopeful. Could be someone was coming who wanted a coffee, and not another heap of trouble he wasn't looking to deal with.

Aiden ran down street after street with her bag slung over her shoulder. She stopped at the corner near an old, bent over stop sign and looked around. She didn't see anyone around but she never really liked being out in the open for long so she turned and dashed down another destroyed street. She kept running until her lungs burned and she could see a faint red glowing light down a ways. She focused on it for a second then she began to make her way toward it. She had heard some time ago that there might happen to be some type of place around these parts that power and food. She had little money but lost of things in her bag to use for trade. She kept to the early morning shadows as she made her way toward the red light.

After a while of walking, the bright red letters spelling out 'DINER' came into view. A smile formed on her lips and she began to walk faster to it. She was soon standing in the lot out front looking at a building covered in over grown weeds with a broken window. She read the sign in the unbroken window and smiled. Maybe she could get a job or something. She thought for a moment then moved forward and headed to the door.

With a small shove, she pushed open the door and headed inside. She could smell coffee cooking and she heard someone moving about. She stood near the door only for a moment then heaqded over to the counter and knocked lightly on it. If she had been like normal people she might of called out or something but since she hardly ever spoke, knocking was her best bet. She knew at some point on this fine morning, she would have to talk to whoever gave to the counter, but she would deal with that when the time came.

Candice was literally the girl-next-door to the love of her life. They went to high school together. They were both supposed to go to the same community college. Work in the same small town. Grow up and see each other become the adults they always wished they could be.
One catch: her 'love' didn't even know she was interested. After all, how many girls notice that their best friend has only eyes for them?
She was going to tell her. That was the plan. The whole plan. Really, that was why she was over Mag's house that day. That horrid day when all hell broke loose. Fighting to stay alive took over her life from that point on. The drilled life of fear, run, hide.
Candice didn't even notice when she lost sight of her love. Or her parents. She just knew that she had to keep running.
• any radiation effects?
So far, only a lessening in how much she needs to sleep. Time will increase any effects

First batch of coffee for the day. Sometimes it would be the only one - most days, really. But it just didn't seem like a proper diner without the smell of coffee brewing, so Oliver figured it was worth the risk of wasting a pot. Not like it would all go to waste, anyway. The first cup he always poured for himself, hot as he could get it and sweetened with as much sugar as he felt he could spare.

Supplies were hard to come by. Coffee, sugar? All he could really do was pray that a trading caravan would come through, or perhaps someone willing to share their own stash. And he wasn't particularly picky about what he would accept. Everything had a use, after all, and right now he would kill for a jar of pickles. Well no, maybe not quite kill. But if he had a jar of pickles and someone was trying to take it from him? He would kill to keep it. It wasn't the most waterproof moral stance, but what the heck.

He heard the sound of the bell ring at the door, and knuckles rapping against the counter.

"'ello!" He called out, emerging from the back with a sack of potatoes and setting them down before he pulled his red apron off it's hook. Couldn't run a diner without an apron - that just wouldn't be sanitary. He winked at the girl on the other side of the counter, resting his hands on it's worn surface and giving her a quick glance-over. Didn't look like trouble - good.

              "What'll it be?"

As she stood there waiting, she took a look around the inside of the place. Things wheres till covered in dust and broken glass from the windows littered the floors under some of the tables. She ran her hand over the counter where she stood and smiled when she saw no dust covered it. This place seemed well taken care of and the coffee smelled super good. She jumped a little when she heard the males voice. Before she saw him she took a step back as if to run but stopped herself.

Aiden looked up at the male, since she was shorter then most, and smiled a little. She took a moment to gather her thoughts and then cleared her throat. She stepped back up to the counter and placed her hands on it lightly, looking up at him again. "H..hello there..My name is Aiden and i saw you where hiring.. I was hoping to get a job.." Her voice was a little softer then most and one could almost tell she was not used to using it. A light pink covered the tops of her cheeks and she glanced away only for a second. Standing before the male was a little hard, he was older then her and much stronger yet she did not fear him in any way.

.::Candice Jones::.

The sudden hum of a generator woke up the sleeping girl. Having spent the past few days hiding up in the boughs of a sturdy oak tree, Candice immediately noticed when the ambient noises were overcome by the sound of machinery. Her first instinct was to run. Run away from the sounds of war and armies. But no, this wasn't the sound of any war machines.

Peering around, she tried to look and see if anything would indicate the source of the disturbance. Indeed, not too far beyond the next hill was a red glow in the air. Narrowing her eyes did nothing to increase her visibility, so the youth prepared to investigate on a closer scale.

Dropping from branch to branch, Candice sailed quickly to the soft soil below. A few steps away and she was at her cache of supplies. It wasn't much, to be sure, but it was enough. Some warm clothes. Some cool ones. Enough freeze dried meat to last a week. And a treasured pair of government-grade (hah. Government. When was the last time that had any meaning?) binoculars. Those she took, shoving the branches and brambles back over her other supplies.

Slinging the strap around her neck, she set off. Soon enough she had walked over the hill to spy... a... diner? She slid into the relative shadows of the treeline and checked with her trusty binoculars. Sure enough, there was the red light of a genuine "Diner" sign. No troops. No soldiers. Not a gun to be seen. Safe haven, part of her mind screamed at her. Danger, yelled another.

She nearly turned away. Nearly walked back to her tree and her supplies and kept on traveling. But a twinge of hope stayed her feet and she found her self passing from the treeline into the parking lot. From there, only the smell of coffee was needed to get her to open the door.

She was young, sort of sweet-looking, the girl. Ten years ago and he wouldn't have thought much of a girl like her - spoiled brats, the lot of them, he'd used to think. Today? She'd survived through this hell just like he had, and given that she was something like half his size that was practically impressive.

It was hard, of course, to impress Oliver.

"Hiring? That I am. 'course it ain't like I got piles of money for payroll, I hope you can figure. Ain't so many people have money to pay me even if they wanted to, I guess. But I sure as hell need some help, look at this damned place." He gestured at all the dust, the broken glass, the tears in the upholstery of some of the benches and stools. And, as his arm swept across the expanse of his little domain, the bell over the door rang a second time. Huh - would you look at that.

"'ello there. If you're lookin' to eat, I got fries or hash browns or mash or... well, just about anything you want, 'slong as it's made of potatoes."

She walked in to the Diner, the binoculars still in her hand. The door had a bell that jingled once she opened it. The tinkling sound was quite ridiculous, if you thought about it. Such a soft sound wasn't heard much anymore. At least, not in Candice's world. She giggled just once and let the door close behind her.

A man from behind the bar seemed to greet her and she nodded in acknowledgement. He also offered her potatoes. This, too, made the girl giggle, though she held that one in to her self. She walked automatically to the part of the counter closest to the wall, putting a little distance between herself and the other girl already there. "Can I just get a mug of coffee?"

.::Heading out for a long while D: Feel free to just give her the coffee and accept generic payment from herrrrr::.

The second girl had a pair of army binoculars - Ollie quirked a dark blond eyebrow at this, remembering them from his own days in the war. They weren't half bad pieces of work, from what he remembered. Better than any of the ramshackle stuff people tried to put together nowadays, using what seemed like nothing but duct tape and wishful thinking. But, hell - he wasn't going to turn a customer off by staring at their treasure, no sir.

"Coffee it is." He nodded, turning away momentarily to reach for one of the dozen or so mis-matched cups arranged on a shelf behind him. He wiped it with a nearby towel (damned dust got everywhere, no matter how much he cleaned) and filled it with coffee from the pot.

"'ere you go, Missy." He brought it over to her edge of the counter along with a little pot of sugar. "Ain't got cream, of course." It was almost a half-joke - where the hell was anyone supposed to get cream these days? But Ollie seemed to like acting like there wasn't a nuclear wasteland outside, just carrying on in his bright red apron like none of that had ever happened.

((Alright, hope to see you later. ;3 ))
