Usually, staying to the main pathways wasn't a constant effort or ideal. There weren't many that went through the garden that could actually be called paths. The grass made up most of the walk instead, and this was given some thought as Thale wandered through the various bushes and structures that made up the area covered by the garden. Somewhere, he was sure the peacocks were around, while not anyone he wanted to run into. They could be friendly, yet it either him moving off or them. Although not scared of birds, they were pretty big in contrast to smaller ones, which didn't seem like it was reason to interact much. If he did: that would be at random, as there were a lot of turns and borders that existed here. All the same - in remembering that - Thale kept his guard up, ready to turn away if one of the birds suddenly appeared. He was alone, and while that wasn't a good situation necessarily, he figured he was mostly fine going around like this.

Stopping near a vine on a trellis, the plant around it was given some brief attention; the plants being most of the reason he came here at all. Various people he knew where interested in them, or at least their uses. What that meant was partly understood. A few could be used herbally by him too, yet he knew it wasn't the best idea to do anything with it: not by the same extent as others who did. He was aware of side effects too, yet the most he did know fell within names. Letting his guess about the vine was go past, Thale picked up his pace again and moved a short distance further across the grass, keeping aware of the surroundings and whether anyone might be around he could talk to. While he didn't mind being by himself, it was somewhat quiet enough that the difference seemed important.

demon

The demon suddenly sprung upwards, flipping over in the middle of the air to land on the back of the horse right behind Riker. Her slender arms coiled around his shoulders. "Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!" Giving him a firm hug, she held it for a good moment before she suddenly popped her eyes open and turned them slowly towards the side of his head. She let go quickly. Then she sat back and coughed into a balled up fist. "I mean, if you insist..." Oh yeah, great cool person impersonation right there. It seemed rather silly to ask him to turn the horse around and take her back to the estate, but she wasn't sure that she should just stay there either or accompany him on a ride to wherever he was going. Besides, that...thing...might still be out there. Gently she stroked the side of her tail as it sat looped in her jeans.

"So...I just follow the path back to the estate right?" It might be better if she just kept walking or flying along until she reaches the safety. Out here in the woodlands, she felt uneasy. While she didn't know how far her boss's barrier went she didn't want to be caught outside of it. Turning her head, she looked back down the pathway and at the shadows the trees cast in criss cross patterns.

The nixie called her voice out to the woodlands beyond her and a moment's silence was then filled with the delicate song of birds that dared to answer her back. It was noted vaguely in the margin with just a few symbols before the charcoal pencil returned to gently etching the lines and fading into soft shadows that were the image of the girl at the waterfall. As he pulled his eyes away, he missed her turning her own head to look back towards him. While he brushed his finger against the dark markings to smooth out the hair, her voice lifted towards him. He glanced back up to her again and peered over the rim of his glasses as if she had disturbed him rather than she being disturbed by his presence. To her question, he was paused before he finally spoke. "Traveling..." It was true. It was just about the only thing that the dragon did with his life. He was never in a single place for too terribly long. Setting the pencil into the center fold, he closed the leather book but did not put it away. Instead, he lowered it to his side and then approached. Even as he did, he kept his distance from her. After all, not only did he not know much about her she didn't know much about him either.

"So...what do you call yourself?" His nose twitched slightly as he breathed. He knew what she was, and knew that whatever name she gave him would not be the real one. His was a similar situation though more out of lack of translation than a need to protect his life. With his other hand, he brushed his thumb against his lip piercing lightly before speaking just a bit more before her answer. "....I chose Oberon..."

User Image "It's..." she looked down at the soup in question for a moment, thinking about how she was going to answer. "Well, it's interesting, that's for sure. I have never had anything quite like it before. I am used to solids foods, not soups and stews. To be completely honest with you, I do prefer things like spice cakes and pastries," The petite woman gave a shrug of her shoulders. She did not want to come off as rude. However, it would take her a while to get used to the food. Now that she was no longer a spirit she would not be able to sustain her health if she only ever ate sweets.

Eirlys pushed the tray back just a bit and folded her hands on her lap. "Your name is Zurinh, correct?" She had heard his name mentioned before and Eirlys was not one to ever forget a name, or even a face for that matter. "I am Eirlys, I come from a land to the East of here." Riker's property was quite a bit different from what she was used to.

Riker Saiforro

✓ Thirty-three ✓ Vampire ✓ Owner of the Estate

Riker was not really all that surprised when Cosette invited herself onto his horse and wrapped his neck in a big hug. The vampire gagged in a comical manner as a smile came to his lips. He could tell that she was on edge, even through her disguise. Horse's could always tell, and the muscles in Ricochet's body tensed up a bit, giving away the woman's feelings the snowy-haired man. Even so, she clearly did not want to tell him how she was feeling and so he was not going to tell her that he knew.

"You could," he replied when she asked about following the trail back to the mansion. "However, I can just give you a ride if you would like," he suggested. It would not take much time or effort for him to take her back.

Cosette Cosette

demon

A deep sigh of relief passed Cosette's lips at Riker offering to take her back to the estate. It meant she didn't have to ask him and that she wouldn't be alone if it started to happen again. "That'd be great! It's been a long trip..." More excuses, but not entirely lies either. It's not really that she didn't want to tell Riker what was going on. The truth of the matter was simply that she didn't know what was going on and the last time she tried to explain it to someone a few towns away, she was looked at like she was completely out of her mind.

She had been in a market place, not like an old world type but more like one of those crafting ones where people make all sorts of monogramed stuff and bored housewives try to sell you some bland pickle relish. She was actually at a booth with some of those same pickles and greedily nibbling away at some of it spread across some crackers. That's when she began to feel a little strange, like a small tingling sensation that was at the end of her waggy, happy tail. Upon turning around, she noticed it looking like the tip had begun to get blurry. Thinking she might need some water, she left and went to the women's restroom where she asked a lady in there if she saw anything strange with her tail. She can't remember what she said exactly, but it was something along the lines of like looking at a foggy mirror. A few minutes after she left the bathroom and returned to another booth with all sorts of wreaths and the sensation happened again. This time, though, it looked like little squares of her tail were just flying away. Not in a loop like now, but more like tiny leaves flaking off and blowing away in the breeze. It spooked her so bad, she flew out of there as fast as she could.

It wasn't until another week went by and she was walking down the street when it started to happen again. She wasn't even in the same town anymore, but roughly twenty miles away. This time she took to the skies and flew as fast and as hard as she could until she was in another nation entirely. When she sat down at the bar in a hotel to talk about her troubles to the tender, she told them about how scared she was and showed them her tail. She had this feeling she was being followed. But her fears of being followed were laughed at, instead given some sort of statement like maybe she was just falling apart. After all, she wasn't a born demon but a created one...maybe what made her was wearing off. But she still couldn't shake the thought that someone was following her. No matter where she was, that tingly would start and she'd run immediately. While no more of her tail has vanished, she still feels the tingle now and again.

It's not that she really thought Riker would make fun of her. It's that she didn't know what to say. What could she say? That she thought she was disappearing? Is that death? It's not like she has a soul after all. That she was being followed? But she didn't know by whom or what. Sagging a bit in the seat behind him, she held on to the back of his shirt and resigned herself to being toted back to the only real safe place she ever knew. Of course, she couldn't be sad with her long ears drooping a bit.

"So!" She broke out of the silence...."Anyone new around? Anyone fun to play with?" And in a way, she meant the question more like 'anyone like Claw?' She had a thing about going and messing around with people with more sour attitudes. She was just drawn to it, like it was her duty to turn that frown upside down.

So exciting...everyone will stop and cheer...

...so Delighting...it will run for fifty years.

In response to her question, there wasn’t a verbal one immediately. Looking up towards where he was standing, she felt like looking away but didn’t. Getting the sense that talking to him hadn’t been the best response, her further sense of logic spoke against that feeling. It however wasn’t enough to combat that response in her mind, yet that layer of thought was passed by into another, Lacie eventually; in a matter of moments; forced herself to speak after his response eventually went by. Moving her hands into her lap somewhat uncomfortably, in unrelated context to what was actually bothering her, that he hadn’t said much wasn’t enough to pull back the idea held in her next words. "How long did you travel?" Thinking that was the least invasive question she could ask, yet something that held more context than just the distance he may have gone, her voice was steadier than before but still held a hint of doubt as a sentence.

Pausing before she spoke further, the decision whether to follow it up with a response was shortly chosen. "Usually, Lacie." The meaning behind his question, while she couldn’t be entirely certain of it, still held some connotation that she could relate to and understand: more, after he had mentioned his own “name”, one he was assuming. Turning more to face him, her tail moving with that attempt, to not fall over from lack of support, her gaze was wary but not that suspicious yet. He hadn’t made an attempt toward her yet in any sense, which meant he either didn’t want to or thought it a bad idea.

With a look down towards the soup, after his question went by, there was a few moments before her line of thought continued-- then turning back his way. Her answer made some sense, within his own memory; a lot of people tended to come through here with different backgrounds and the things they were more used to tended to also be different than what the estate staff at times provided. Nodding briefly, albeit with some absent thought, still going through a few lines; Zurinh then spoke after she shrugged her shoulders. Asking his name-- he let out a short but affiirming note, putting his hands in his pockets afterward out of habit. “
That’s mostly accurate.” Though cryptic, he didn’t explain further yet, not attempting or trying for the chance to.

Thinking towards where he had come from, before arriving here, that was next mentioned. “
I’m from the nearby town, staying there didn’t seem as good an option as here. It’s different in some ways, which is sort-of better: I have more options here than I did there.” Admitting that, yet not the context behind it, he didn’t feel like going further into explaining what he meant, not wanting to unload that part of his history on her: it not exactly a positive time-frame, even if it couldn’t exactly be considered negative either. While that reluctance would be moved past-- somewhat-- if she asked further, he could relate if she didn’t, through not wanting to talk much about background.

The question for the travels was tucked away for the moment, keeping it to himself for just a bit while he allowed her to answer his question about her name first. After the answer, he reopened his booklet and wrote the name down in scrawling calligraphy besides the drawing of her from the behind and side. It's while he's half-drawing her name down that he finally spoke to her once again on the subject of travels. "...Nice choice, Ms. Lacie." With the name written, he once again closed his journal and held it loosely at his side while his other hand adjusted the headband that was cocked at an angle to hide the broken base of his horn on the other side. It's not that it was a point of shame any more, more that it was annoying to get it caught on things when he bent over if he headbutted something.

"I've traveled for a couple of centuries now. Not really any sort of path, but more from one situation to another I suppose with lots of walking between." Taking a few steps closer towards the waterfall, he went a bit away from her and took a seat upon a rock so that she would not have to turn towards him so uncomfortably. "I did not think I would see another of your kind again since leaving the Germanic area....it's been a good hundred and fifty years at least now. And they were scarce if I do recall, though perhaps not as scarce as my own."

Riker Saiforro

✓ Thirty-two ✓ Vampire ✓ Owner of the Estate

Riker couldn't help but chuckle when Cosette asked about the folks in the mansion. "Well, there are some new folks staying right now. None of them are quite like what we had the last time you were around though." He had a feeling that she was talking about Claw. The vampire recalled hearing the bat yelling at her with his stuttering foul mouth many times. "Ariah and Abel are still there. So are Eleiza and Ensvel," he was trying to remember all of the people who were at the estate when Cosette was working there.

Riker turned Ricochet around and then gave him a light kick. The trio was soon off once again, but this time they were headed back to the mansion. The horse's ears flicked occasionally, clearing the snow that fell on top of them. The moon was bright and Riker thought that it looked beautiful with the snow. As they journeyed closer to the warmth of the mansion the snow began coming down harder than it had been just minutes before. "It looks like we are going to get a pretty big storm..." Riker said as his crimson eyes scanned in all directions.

A few new people? No information there. A soft little pout came to her lip. While she had found a few people to play with out in the world after she left, they weren't that entertaining and usually just locked her out of their apartments and houses after she followed them all the way there. As for the familiar names, she recognized the other workers. There weren't too many people she got close to at the estate back then and she wondered about being more open to others this time around. She was just usually in her own little world and everyone else was so grown up and mature. Then, the snow that had been pretty light began to fall all the harder.

It began to collect on the top of their heads, though it blended in really easily with his white hair and her platinum blonde. Still holding on to his shirt with both of her hands so she wouldn't fall off, she wound up leaning back and opening her mouth wide. Her pink tongue rolled out past her lips and dangled across her chin to allow for snowflakes to gather there. She even moved a little in her seat to catch more of them before snapping her mouth shut and looking back up at the back of his head.

"Storm? Snow can storm? Oh! Wait! There was a video once, that's right....there was lightning with snow...it was so cool! Do you think it will flash, bang, pow while it snows this time?"

User Image Eirlys listened as Zurinh spoke of having lived in the nearby town. A smile formed on her face,"You lived in the town? She had never lived in such a place before. It made her wonder what opportunities he could get here in the mansion that he could not get back there. Perhaps there were not many jobs available in town. Then again, perhaps he had ended up at the mansion for his own safety. Additionally, Riker offered people jobs from what she understood. Such thoughts made her wonder what she would do once she was feeling better. She couldn't go home because there was no home to go back to.

Eirlys gestured to the sitting chair that was next to her bed. "You may sit here if you would like," she said. "So, tell me more about yourself! What do you like to do around here on your spare time?" While Eirlys did not know much about the modern human world (she was from a very rural location after all) she did know how to have a conversation. She enjoyed the company, especially considering that she was on bed rest.

Riker grinned at Cosette's question. "I don't think it will lightning with this particular storm. Snow storms are often without it." He kept his gaze towards the trail now, watching as the snow filled up the tracks that his horse had left on the way out into the forest. They were filling up quickly. Well, it was probably a good thing that they were headed back to the estate now. Ricochet would have had no desire to stay out in a storm and Riker would not have made him anyway. The sooner they got back the better, for both Cosette and the large chestnut colored animal.

It wasn't long at all before they reached the beginning of the trail. The floodlights on the stables, mansion, and garage shown brightly. The lamp posts were lit up as well, casting a beautiful glow on the freshly fallen snow. Riker decided to drop Cosette off right at the front steps of the mansion. He would take care of his horse after.

Ricochet continued on his path to the front steps and came to a stop in front of them. "Alright, here you are, Madam. Front door service," Riker said as he looked back over his shoulder at Cosette and gave her another one of his friendly smiles.

Well that was a disappointment. She rather enjoyed some good storms. The crazy part of it was that while she liked the idea of thunder and lightning, she actually was a little scared of it and liked to huddle under a blanket and just stare at it as it banged and clashed outside the window. It seemed so powerful to her, so foreign. As the trail came to an end and the familiar estate rose into sight, she let her widened eyes gaze across it's surface for the ghosts of adventures past that happened on the outside of the building. Smiling with the fondness of it, she gave his shirt a small squeeze of happiness. Upon coming up to the front of the manor, she gave him a two fingered salute.

"Thanks, Mr. R!"

And in a really bad Harley Quinn type of voice at that. Again she slipped her arms around his neck and gave him a squeeze before floating up and off the stead. Rather than go right for the door, she came around to the front and cupped the horse's face in her warm hands.

"And thank you too, noble stead..."

Much like she had seen in an animal documentary about cats, she leaned over and gave the top of his snow covered head a lick. The sweat of his jog and the snow had mixed together. "Mmm salt-...ick...hair...." Pulling away she rolled out her tongue and began to smack at the surface to try and get the little bits of hair. Giving him another thanks, she backed up towards the door and turned around and into the warmth of the inside while still picking at herself. "bad idea...bad idea..."
