It was supposed to be a vacation, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t work. The Japanese spirit existed in hard work and tireless endeavors, after all, and knowing this full well Hokuya Publishing still sent her work to do. It wasn’t the same kind of work she would do normally, where she would typically edit entire books both fiction and nonfiction. While on vacation, she picked through a massive stack filled to the brim with haiku and waka. Typically, it was tanka and chōka, however the occasional sedōka would sneak its way in. It was nice to see the revival of old styles, and unless they were unfathomably bad, Shizan tried to keep them. Furthermore, it was her job to organize them accordingly, based on type and subject matter.

It was a nice way to spend a day. It took her mind off the growing heat, and away from the now closed hot springs. Besides, when she looked busy, people didn’t go bother her. An added bonus, really, she hated being bothered. Especially since this inn seemed to attract the worst kinds of foreigners and expatriots that seemed to take pleasure in renouncing their proud, glorious heritage. Simply being forced to interact with such tasteless individuals made her grow sick, as if every little word her father said made sense. Sure, she didn’t think Japan needed a full revolution and upheaval, but seeing as how many people thirsted for the chance to be a foreigner, his disgust started making sense.

At least the restaurant wasn’t awful. Despite being something typically hard to find, even in the summer months, they served a full sōmen meal with a simple mentsuyu and a side of sunomono. The flavors were rather nostalgic, honestly. It reminded her of youth, before she could remember there being something wrong with her father, enjoying mother’s cooking in silence. Summer was always too hot for father – he never talked as much, but he always said the cicadas did his talking for him. They knew where Japan belonged, he said once, his chopsticks filled with sōmen. They were born there, they never left. When they sound sad, it was because the Japanese denied them their heritage. Shizan believed it when she was young.

                                                    They still sounded sad.

Time flew when you were busy and your food didn’t lose flavor. She marked down notes on some poems, numbered others. In her palm, the mentsuyu dish for dipping remained steady in front of her. If she had not gotten a mail from her boss, she would not have realized it had become 3 pm. Shizan grimaced at herself and glanced around the restaurant – had she been imposing on the staff? It did state that they closed at 4, and there was at least an hour before the doors would shut, but they were probably growing tired of her being there. The sooner they could clean up her spot the better – most likely.

Pushing her work to the side, Shizan leaned back and decided to finish her meal before going any further. Remaining a burden to others would be troublesome, she had to have a sterling reputation besides her lack of friendliness lest she’d shame her father in the afterlife. Even though she had grown to hate him, or hate what lies he had built upon her and Shishio, it still scared her to cause his spirit trouble. What would he say when she died? Obviously, something on being unable to produce children, but if she had besmirched his name with bad behavior. Would his spirit disown her? It was troubling to think about.

Tapping the middle of her chopsticks against the edge of the bowl, to wick any moisture from it, she had managed to finish it in record time. Not that she was counting – she was just mildly surprised to check the clock afterward. Shizan rose from her seat, and collected her things. She’d like to give an extra payment to the restaurant chef, but seeking that person out would be trouble, and she was certain it would be shameful if she did. She hoped the sentiment would be sent through the finished meal. Bowing her head and pressing her palms together, Shizan murmured appreciatively, “gochisosama deshita.

Shizan ended up in the garden to finish her work. It was a hot day, but the cold sōmen made it easier. Besides, being surrounded by nature really put you in tune with the delicate work of Japanese poetry. A small tea table had been put out for guests, which she settled down at. “The theming in this haiku isn’t right,” she muttered to herself, making sure to note that haiku were written about nature and seasons. No doubt, this was another attack from brutal westernization trying to rape even the most innocent facets of their culture. Or, at least, that’s what her father would say.

Location: Hiyokuna Mountain >>Outside at Thank You Innxxx Company: Who knowsxxx Mood: Exasperated xxx Theme: N/A

Hiyokuna mountain, is a place of sanctuary. It's crisp air, and gentle slopes homed many wild animals. The sound of cicadas cries echoed through the mountain tops. It was a peaceful feeling that set any heart at ease. The view of on starching forest took Sora's breath away.

A gentle breeze blew past her whispering in her ear softly. Sending a chill of pleasure down her spine. Instinctively she closed her soft watery pale blue eyes taking in the sun's warmth. Breathing in deeply she let out a slow sigh sounding completely at peace. She couldn't get enough of this place. The smell of fresh grass filled her lungs. Opening her eyes she stared off in the distance. Far past the trees painted in different shades of greens her eyes fell onto a building. It wasn't hard to spot. It stood out among greens of the mountain. She knew the building was the Thank You Inn. The craggy cliff she sat on gave her a bird's eye view of the pure nature that surround it. Her pale fingers gently brushed the grass underneath her. It felt soft and warm like petting a dog. Everything was so fresh and crisp. This alone brought Sora's anxious heart at ease.

It had been sometime since she last visited the Thank You Inn. She almost felt guilty as if it was a friend she had forgotten to see. Though no matter how long she stayed away it greeted her with open arms, and stayed ageless. It was almost an addiction coming here. She couldn't get enough of this place. The bustle of the city was becoming to much to handle. She only wished to get away from it all, and when she thought she might burst she run away to the Thank You Inn. The first place she would visit was right here. Her secret get away. It was a place she visited often when she stayed at the Inn. This place was all hers. Here she could cry, scream, nap, and just think about anything she desired alone without the judgment of others. This place was so special to her that she wished to one day bring someone special here too. So they too could feel peace like she does. Sighing loudly Sora fell back letting the soft warm grass tickle her arms. A soft blissful smile touched her pink plush lips. "The sky is so clear today." Sora's voice was soft and warm like a summer's breeze. "I guess I should be returning to the inn soon." she spoke reluctantly.

She turned her head to the side her nose wrinkling slightly as a blade of grass tickled her cheek. Her sleek black digital camera laid untouched on the ground. Reaching lazily Sora gripped the soft black leather strap pulling the camera close. Sitting Sora draped the camera around her neck. The leather warming the nape of her neck. With a soft grunt she stood up patting herself free of dirt and grass. She turned her body every which way scoping out her white shorts making sure they were seemingly stainless. To her disbelief not one grass stain clutched its white fabric. Satisfied Sora turned on her toes, and began her slow long walk back to the inn.

Sora trudge along the soft damp moss of the forest's unmarked path. The trees whispered softly against the breeze like a lullaby, soft and soothing. It was a welcoming feeling as if the forest was whispering sweet nothings to her. The feeling of security over followed her, when abruptly it all changed. Sora's light foot steps turned rough and ridged as twigs snapped beneath her every step. The forests sweet music was silence by twigs being crushed behind her. This was not the reason why heart heart began to race anxiously. Sora swore someone was following her, like her crunching foot steps where not alone. Of course this was her own paranoia playing tricks on her. Instinctively she jerked her head, and let out a scream. "Oh my god!" Sora sounded completely exasperate, and yet relieved all at once. A small fox dashed out of the the thick brush startling her. She felt as if her heart might explode out of her chest. "I think I almost peed myself." she spoke aloud her small hand gripping the soft fabric of her blue and white stripped shirt.

A cold chill ran down her spine. Her soft pale blue eyes glanced nervously around her. The forest became an eerie silence causing her heart to pound. Sora felt frighten of her surrounds. It was silly she knew. No one was following her it was just a small red fox, but the initial scare was enough to make her uneasy. Instinct took over and Sora began to sprint. The green forest became a green dark blur as she ran past the trees. Sora dunked and dodged as she ran past branches there stretching out towards her like limbs. As one branch out her in its she let out a yelp. She jerked her arm causing the branch to tear into her shirt and flesh. She stumbled back tripping on an over a trees root peeking up from the ground.

Her body fell to the ground with a thud a grunt escaping her lips. To her astonishment Sora was out of the forest grasp, and laid lifeless on the soft warm grass of the Thank You inn. Relief over flowed her as she realized her nightmare was over.

Since the hot spring was closed for the season, Masako didn’t have to work for a while. It was a well-earned break, but she hated being so idle. So, Masako decided to spend her mornings practicing her Kendo. Her hands tightened on the hilt of the shinai, lifting it up in preparation for a firm strike. Taut muscles decorated in a thin seen of sweat from hours of practice. There was a loud whistle as the shinai descended onto its target, a battle cry escaping soft lips following after. She stepped back, examining the damage dealt to the wooden training dummy. Her fingers brushed against a groove where the shinai struck a few minutes ago.

Glancing up at the clear skies, Masako wiped the sweat from her brow. The top of her yukata was removed, a roll of bandages secured around her torso. Her bare shoulders were relived with a cool breeze. She tugged the top of her yukata back on, trying to look somewhat presentable. Well, at least, until she reached the inn.

It was a short trip to the main building from the nice and quiet secluded area in the forest where she trained. The delicious scent wafting from the restaurant stopped her. Her stomach growled in demand for food, but it looked like it was about to close soon. Not to mention… she was here. Masako believed her name was Shizan from what she heard in a conversation between her and another staff member. Swallowing hard, Masako tried to ignore the heat rising up on her face. ‘Ugh,’ she pressed her hand against her face, a groan escaping her lips. Why was she so… embarrassed? ‘Maybe it’s because you’re watching her from afar like a weirdo.’ She shook her head, forcing her feet to move again.

Upon arriving to building A, Masako walked down the hallway where her room was, A9. Stepping inside her room, she set aside her shinai on the wall before heading into the small bathroom. She closed the door behind her, peeling her sweat drenched clothes off, making sure to fold them in a neat pile. Nimble fingers tugged on the bandages wrapped around her toned abdomen, revealing the numerous scars. Her eye flickered up to the mirror, a knot forming her stomach. Taking off of her eye patch, she swallowed hard. Hesitantly, she reached up to touch the sewn flesh. Masako couldn’t stand her reflection – so she started the shower and got in.

The shower was much needed. She was reluctant to get out with the hot water working the tension out of her muscles. Sighing in contentment, Masako stepped out of the shower and dried off to begin the process of getting dressed again. She chose a more girlish yukata to wear for whatever reason. It was still simplistic though. Her scarred hands smoothed out the soft fabric with a soft sigh. She almost felt… attractive.

“Masa-chan! Your eyes are so beautiful!” Her girlfriend exclaimed. “Your parents should have named you, Hitomi.”

“A-Azumi… Please, don’t say such things.”

Masako was quick to push those unpleasant memories aside. It was too early to allow herself to wallow in self-pity. Picking up her more decorative eye-patch, Masako fixed it onto her face to hide her ultimate imperfection. Once Masako was dressed, she grabbed the bento box she made earlier. She tried not to wolf down, but. It wasn’t long before her stomach was satisfied with the delicious meal for the time being. Stretching her tired limbs, Masako stood up to dispose of the dirtied bento box. She had no idea what she was going to do for dinner. So, she hoped the summer festival would have some food. Or else it was going to be rice and curry for dinner again.

It would be a little while until the summer festival though. So, she had time to waste, but doing what? Exhaling heavily, Masako drummed her fingers against the top of the table in thought. Masako didn’t exactly have any friends to hang out with. She indulged her co-workers in small talk, but that’s all it ever was. It was even worse with the guests since her nerves always got the best of her.

Masako looked out the single window in her room, watching the sunlight seep inside and stretch across the tatami mats. It was a beautiful day… Perfect for writing haiku. With that in mind, Masako decided the garden was the ideal place to draw inspiration. She grabbed her notepad and favorite pen before stepping out of her room.

When she arrived to the garden, Masako was surprised to see Shizan again. She stopped the impulse to hide behind a tree, holding her notepad tightly. They shared very, very brief conversations before. She was too anxious to push the conversation further than what needed to be answered while Shizan seemed completely disinterested in her. Her teeth dug into her bottom lip, debating whether or not to approach the other woman. ‘She looks occupied,’ Masako mused, ‘Ah… Maybe I shouldn’t bother her…’

She wasn’t worthy for a woman like Shizan’s time.

However, it seemed a greater force had different plans for her. A cool breeze swept a loose page of her notepad, carrying it toward the other woman. Flustered, Masako chased after the piece of paper. Of course, she fell onto the ground, maybe a foot or so, from where Shizan was sitting down.

                                                        This was just.

                                                        This was just unbelievable.

A silver-haired man hummed merrily as he exited his room which happened to be A29. He was wearing his waiter outfit and the name tag attached to the front read 'Joey'. Joey locked his door and had a small laugh to himself as he turned and walked down the hallway of Building A's second floor. He had worked the breakfast shift today and wasn't scheduled to work lunch nor dinner for the rest of the day. But, it would be a lie if Joey said he didn't like wearing the outfit. He enjoyed wearing his waiter uniform really much, especially if he needed to assist anyone with something. A waiter's job is to make sure the customer is always pleased after all and that also applies outside of work. The man walked down the steps to get to the first floor and proceeded to pass by the storage rooms and staff lounge as he exited Building A.

As he was making his way to the Main Building, he blinked when he heard the sound of frantic chirping. He looked around and noticed that there was a baby bird chirping like mad on the ground in front of a tree. Joey could only surmise that the bird somehow fell out of it's tree and couldn't fly back up there. And it seemed like the mother was gone, probably off to get food or something. Joey knew what he wanted to do and he walked over and gently picked up the baby bird. It didn't seem injured but mainly just scared helpless. Joey smiled as he rubbed his finger against the bird's head and looked up at the tree. "Don't worry, I'll bring you back home," he told the bird in a kind voice as he gently placed the baby bird in his pocket, making sure it easily had enough room. He needed to keep it safe somehow.

Joey then quickly jumped straight into the air, using as much leg power as he could. He grabbed onto the tree branch and then proceeded to pull himself up. Once he made it on the branch, he used the base of a tree as a balance as he stood up straight. He saw the nest just above him and he retrieved the baby bird from his pocket and carefully returned the bird home. The bird kept on chipping frantically but it seemed happy to be home. Joey simply laughed a bit and he smiled. "Good for you. Now just wait for mommy to return, okay?" he asked the bird before climbing back down onto the ground. Joey brushed himself off a bit before heading into the Main Building. He ended up passing by the restaurant and he saw the guest who were currently eating and being waited on. He then continued to the main entrance of the Main Building, standing right outside so he could catch some fresh air. He closed his eyes as the wind blew slightly, his locks of hair blowing with it. Everything was so peaceful. He heard rustling in the forest, but it was only natural due to the animals running around, but he then suddenly heard a thud. Joey's eyes opened and he blinked when he saw a body on the ground. "Oh my," he said in an alert tone as he ran over and knelt down in front of the girl. "Are you okay?" he asked in a concerned tone, but he then realized who this was. A recurring and familiar guest of Thank You Inn, a big smile appeared on his face.

"Sora, it's so good to see you again. You're company has been greatly missed," he said in a really happy tone as he smiled at her. He then tilted his head as he gave her another concerned look. "Are you okay? You look awfully panicked. Did something happen in the forest, was someone chasing you?" he kept asking questions, simply wanting to make sure the woman was alright. Joey then held out his hand towards her as he stood up, but his body stayed bent towards her. "Can you stand?" he asked, at least wanting to make sure she wasn't injured.

Sora's body fell to the ground with a thud a grunt escaping her lips. To her astonishment she was out of the forest grasp, and laid lifeless on the soft warm grass of the Thank You inn. Relief over flowed her as she realized her nightmare was over. All she could do was lay there helpless. She couldn't possibly muster up enough strength to pull herself up. She just simply laid there. Her petite body ached from both mental and physical exhaustion. Closing her eyes she let the sun's rays warm her stiff body. Just as her body began to melt she felt a cool shadow loom over her body. Her heart began to race in a panic, and as she opened her eyes with a shock she was greeted with a familiar voice and face. Joey?

His soft silver hair almost looked white in the sun's warm rays. He stared down at her with soft concerned eyes. At first they just stared at each other in silence. Sora was honestly caught of guard. For a second she thought the "person" from the woods was real, and she just wasn't being paranoid for no reason. Oh god! I look like a total idiot laying on the ground like this Sora thought as her cheeks began to warm with embarrassment. Than just before she could speak he came to the realization to who she really was. His face seemed to light up as he greeted her in his normal cheerful matter. Oh how she wanted to disappear in the wind as he stared down at her. Though she felt completely and utterly embarrassed she couldn't help, but laugh and feel cheerful. It had been sometime since she seen Joey, and she couldn't hid her excitement. Once again he spoke out of concern asking if she was being chase. "Oh I'm so embarrassed." Sora spoke nervously as she took the his out reaching hand. It was warm as his large hand gripped her's. He pulled her effortlessly to her feet. Compared to him she must look like a small child. He loomed over her small five foot one frame. "I should be fine." she spoke giving me a shy smile. Her cheeks grew a soft rose pink as she rub the back of her head nervously. "I wasn't really being chase per se. More like I thought I was and spooked myself. You know me. I'm clumsy and watched to my horror flicks. Not the greatest combo." she spoke in a joking matter as she teased herself.

She began patting herself free of dirt and grass. Twisting her body left and right her soft watery pale blue eyes glanced around her body making sure she was free of dirt. Somewhat satisfied she felt less embarrassed. She probably still looked like a hot mess, but at lest now her cloths wasn't cover in dirt. Oh? Sora thought as her eyes fell on a cut on her shoulder. She must of got it when the branch caught her. That was probably the stinging she felt when the branch ripped her sleeve. Knowing Joey would most likely see it she quickly tried to play it off as nothing. He was the type to worry over guest even if it was a small matter like this. "See. Just a scratch." she spoke softly as she twisted her arm to show him her shoulder. A long red thin line touched her skin where her shirt's sleeve was torn. Blood brimming the cut's edges she instinctively she touched it flinching slightly. She made a face.

Joey still continued to look worried for Sora. She was always such a nice person to be around whenever she came to stay as a guest and it was a pleasure serving her during the meals throughout the day. When she started laughing, Joey only blinked with a surprised face but ended up joining her, creating a small moment of laughter. As Sora took his hand, he would stand up straight and help her up to her feet. Her hand was quite warm on this nice day, but that warmness would stay as their hands separated, Joey finding folding them behind his back. His eyes gazed down at hers, which was quite low given their height difference. Compared to him, Sora was a really short girl, but he still liked her the same either way.

Joey then couldn't help but laugh when Sora explained how she managed to spook herself out. "Well, too many horror movies will do that to you. What you need is a friend to watch them with so you won't get as scared!" he explained, holding up his pointer finger in the air as he tried to look intelligent while giving her advice. As the woman began dusting herself of dirt and grass, he couldn't help but notice the cut on her shoulder. A concerned look appeared on his face again. He knew that the injury wasn't serious at all and that he shouldn't make a big deal out of it, but his sense of helping others was kicking in. Sora saw his concern and tried to play it off like it was nothing to reassure him that she was fine. Joey then couldn't help himself but act when Sora flinched after touching the cut. "Sora~" he cried out as he walked behind her and put his hands on her shoulders, making sure to avoid the cut. Joey quickly began leading the girl inside the Main Building. He went to grab a first aid kit, leaving Sora alone for a minute, before returning to her. He opened it up and lifted up her shirt sleeve entirely so her shoulder was exposed. He applied some quick ointment before applying the appropriately sized band-aid over her cut. Joey then sighed in relief as he took a look and realized things looked a lot better. He excused himself real quick to put the first aid kit back, and return once more.

"See, you're fully okay now!" he said happily, giving her a wide smile as he jokingly flexed an arm, trying to show off some "manliness". He laughed a bit before looking at Sora once more. "I'm really glad that your back once again. You're like my favorite guest out of everyone," he said kindly, valuing his friendship with her. "Oh, and a couple of things! If you wear a yukata and go to the cafe with it on, you get a free ice cream cone!" he said in an excited tone, seeing as how he loved sweets. "And since the Summer Festival is tonight, you should definitely go to that! Maybe we can go together to celebrate your return?" he asked, tilting his head slightly. He then realized how that sounded like a date and he quickly covered his mouth as his gasp. He then blushed as he held out his arms and began frantically shaking them as he shook his head many times to the side. "I-I-I mean, not like a date or anything! Just two friends hanging out is all. But, I mean, uhh, not like a date with you is a bad thing, it sounds wonder- wait, what am I saying?! Oh goodness, this is so embarrassing!" he frantically said in quick succession as his hands now rested on his head in agony of his own stupidity with word choice. His head hung low but he soon raised it up to look at Sora and he began laughing once more, knowing he just made a fool of himself, but it was quite funny.

"Hey, how about we take a picture together? Memories are eternal in pictures, of course, I guess the photographer would know that more than me," he said with a big smile.

Simply because you wrote it in Japanese, doesn’t make it a genuine Haiku. It was bizarre how many ex-patriot foreigners tried to make it big on the writing scene in Japan. Most of the time, they stuck to their shallow misshapen manga but even still – Shizan was attuned to finding where white people just changed their names. Not that it was particularly hard – most of them didn’t really make the effort to hide it as they wrote out their names phonetically as opposed to in the proper kanji form. Furthermore, they were sent using improper kigo, completely missing the correct terminology. Even the ones that were about nature and seasons used they would relate a summer moon, or spring lilies.

Shizan always turned those down with notations that they should study the craft more. It was infuriating at first, but after a year and a half, Shizan had found it becoming tiresome. Every flash of anger she would’ve had melted away into disinterest and disgust. It seemed more like, maybe, her father’s world was real. That foreigners crashed onto our beaches and decided to destroy the essential pieces of our culture. Even the delicate arts, which they tried to hold onto with over extended fingers, were cast aside. The English could retain their sonnets, at it’s core beauty, but if the Japanese desired to maintain the haiku – it was an oppression of the people.

Despite having been busy in her own mind, Shizan was hardly an oblivious person. At lunch, and also now, she felt eyes (or perhaps eye?) burrowing into her back. She wondered if Wakahisa thought that she wouldn’t notice such heated stares, or that she wouldn’t be able to tell they often conveniently arrived in the same places. She didn’t really mind beautiful women following her, particularly, but it made it somewhat difficult to distance herself. Shizan preferred people at arms length. If a woman was interested in seeking her out, it was hard to say no, even if she wanted to.

For the moment, however, silence. The situation wasn’t exactly ideal. She guessed Wakahisa really didn’t think she’d be able to tell whenever they were in the same place. If they had spoken briefly at the restaurant, it would be less tedious to ignore her, but now it seemed like gravity had increased It’s weight. She worked, quietly, and tried not to feel the pressure of her not-entirely-unwelcome follower. Fate had other ideas than the unwitting silence, she supposed, as a cool summer breeze broke through. Shizan had weighted her papers down with the worked memorial stone Shishio had given her in memory of their father, but others did not maintain such care. A loose piece of paper flew past her, not even a foot or more, followed by her guest tripping onto the floor.

What kind of scene was this?

Wakahisa missed the paper, but it hadn’t missed her. Slipping between her hands, it settled on her back, like some fancy dish of fate. Was it hers to take? Shizan assumed so, as if there were anyone else out in the garden, they had not made themselves known. With care, she plucked the paper up from Wakahisa’s back. It was probably improper to read someone else’s work, but Shizan’s eyes had grown cross with reading so many poems that it happened before she could think not to.

Oh,” A mild surprise left her lips, Shizan leaned back into her chair to read it more closely. “This is very good.

Shizan was the last person on the earth to wantonly hand out compliments. Even to her, she was dumbstruck at letting it leave her lips. If she hadn’t, though, it would’ve been a lie. There was the well thought construction – the shortness of the phrases, combined with the proper kigo use. The combination of the hiragana, katakana and kanji was appropriately done, as if to imply one’s mastery of the language. It was remarkably well done, honestly. She turned the paper over to read what was written on the other side. It seemed the level of skill was consistent.

Goddamn, how was she supposed to ignore a woman with this kind of skill? With her mouth closed, she bit her tongue in annoyance. Shizan wanted nothing to do with the people here – it was just so much easier. But, how could she not get involved? It was like staring at a massive chunk of unpressed diamond, knowing that effort would make something you wouldn’t ever regret.

“Wakahisa Masako, right? Sit down.” Shizan didn’t care to waste time in any facet of her life. While she waited, she looked over the work again. Sliding out a thin pile of red marked papers, rejects, she slid them over to the other woman. “I work for Hokuya Publishing, and right now, I’m compiling and editing for a poetry anthology. As you can see, I’m low on talent.

She set the loose paper down on the table, opposite of the rejects and slid them over.

Would you be interested in submitting something?

"I want you to just tell me whenever you feel a little p***k on your hand. All I need for you to do is tell me whenever you feel something." He looked to the man he had sitting in the chair not too far from him, wondering what exactly he would do when he started. He was running a small test to see how certain substances acted with the human body. He pressed a small blue button on his phone, a signal being sent to the chair, locking the subject in place in his chair. "Alright. Let us start off with just a simple test." He walked over to a table in the corner of the room, the table filled with simple tools and objects meant to be simple tests. He grabbed a comically over sized feather from the table, knowing that it was just going to make sure the subject was feeling normal. He walked over to the subject, lightly gliding the feather over the man's arm. He watched as the man chuckled slightly, his arm quivering a bit as the feather went over it. "Subject is feeling normal. Time to proceed to further testing. He went back over to the table, beginning the real experiment.

He started to grab the electrically charged objects, knowing it was going to make the subject feel a bit of pain. He spent the next hour bringing objects that were meant to mess with the energy levels in the body, affect how the nerves feel among the body, and anything else that was placed on his list. As soon as he finished up with the last part of the experiment, he placed the rest of his tools onto his table, knowing he wouldn't need them anymore. "So how do you feel after its all done." He turned around to view his subject, seeing that he was mostly dazed from all that he had done. "Huh. Guess maybe it was a bit too much stimulation for you." He pulled out his phone, unlocking the restraints that kept the man in his chair. "Please follow the man on the other side of the door to the nearest exit. If you want to have any medical attention done after this experience, please go talk to Dr. Kazuki. Tell him to put in on Mr. Razenguard's tab." He started to walk away from the subject, wondering what such a simple experiment could give him now...

His dream ended there though. He was no longer in his personal laboratory at SIT, but now in the room he had rented at the Thank You Inn. While it wasn't a fancy hotel like he could have paid for, its soft, rustic charm had something appealing to it. He pushed off the covers he had over him, revealing a man sleeping in nothing more than the boxers on him. He pushed himself out of bed, sitting up and grabbing the phone nearby. He clicked the power button, seeing it was much later than it should have been. [********... Missed breakfast..."
He was getting a bit too relaxed with this vacation if he was sleeping past his usual wake up time. He grabbed his glasses from the small table next to the bed, slipping them on before getting up. He quickly went to the bathroom in the room, slipping off his boxers and placing his glasses on the sink. He got in, quickly showering before getting out. He slipped on his glasses, walking out into his room and towards his dresser. He grabbed out a simple ensemble consisting of a white tank top, white dress shirt, blue jeans, and a light blue jacket to go over it all. He slipped it all on, making his way out the door to get lunch.

Walking through out the halls of the inn, he was taking his time as he made his way towards the inn's restaurant. After missing breakfast, he definitely wanted to get something to eat. After all, it was proven that you couldn't function normally without eating within the first few hours of waking up. Even if he couldn't get the proper nutrients and chemicals out of the foods usually served for breakfast, he could still get the ones from lunch. He started to walk out of Building B, smelling the air outside as he was greeted by a puff of cool air. "For once, the air feels nice. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to get out more like mom wanted..." He walked the distance from Building B to the Main Building, taking in the sights around him. He was actually genuinely happy about it all. He quickly made his way into the Main Building, not wanting to take it in for too long though.

Walking into the main building, he made his way through it quickly, reaching the restaurant without a problem. Walking in, he ordered a simple sandwich, knowing that it wouldn't take long for the cook behind the counter to make it. Sitting down, he started to wait for his food.

The instant she flinched she knew it was all over. The silvered haired boys face flooded with concern. In an instant he was behind her. His hands gently touched her shoulders. She noticed how he carefully avoided touching her cut. With care he began leading her back to the inn. "Joey really I'm fine." she spoke aloud knowing resisting was futile. She could fell her face growing warm with embarrassment. He gracefully lead her into the main building. Knowing there was no point Sora obediently took a seat in a corner as he disappeared out of the room. She assumed he was fetching a first aid kit. "Alright Sora calm down." she scolded herself under her breath. Why was she feeling so embarrassed for? Had it really been that long since she had seen Joey? So long that she felt oddly self-conscious. Before she knew it he was back first-aid kit in hand.

Without saying a word Joey's slender finger began pulling up her sleeve completing revealing her shoulder. Her soft watery blue eyes glanced away shyly her cheeks flushing a soft rosy pink. As his warm finger grazed her wound her heart skipped a beat. Oddly it didn't hurt when he gently put the ointment on her broken skin. She held her breath as he carefully put the appropriate size band-aid over her wound. Just as quickly as he came he stood up leaving the room. Sora quickly left out a breath. Dear lord. I need to get it together." she thought as she rubbed her cheeks furiously. Shaking her head she cleared her throat trying to calm herself. Alright just shake it off she gave herself a mental pep talk.

Just as quickly as Joey left he return. He began joking happily as he flexed his arm. That's all she needed. A burst of laughter escaped her lips as she waked the boy. He was adorable. It was hard not to think that. After all he had such a warm heart, and he was funny too. She wouldn't be surprised if he had a girlfriend. Anyone would be lucky to have him. "It's good to be back. It's nice to see you again Joey." she spoke sweetly a warm smile touching her lips. It was odd, but she did miss him. She almost forgot how much fun he was, even if he spent half the time worrying over her. Sora's face light up when he mentioned a Yukata and ice cream. "Oh yeah free ice cream!" she chimed in happily. He continued with excitement asking her if they could go to the festival together. Sora's eyes widen slightly in surprise her mouth opening slightly. Wow that's bold. she thought. She was pleasantly surprised. Before she could give an answer he began rambling on nervously. A laugh escaped her lips as she watched him have a internal freak out. "You're adorable Joey." she spoke trying to stifle in a laugh. "Yes." she spoke, but added quickly. "I would love to go to the festival with you, and don't worry I won't get the wrong idea. I know you don't like me like that." she spoke sweetly with a warm smile. After all Joey was kind with everyone.

There was a moments pause before joey spoke again. Her heart skipped a beat at his words. She looked at him in awe, but quickly changed into a soft warm expression. "I thought I was the only one who thought like that." there was a cheerfulness in her voice as she spoke. Quickly she took the camera from around her neck, and carefully took off the leans cap. "Isn't photography amazing, how it captures the pure essence around us, and makes it last forever." she spoke excitedly as she turned on the camera. She quickly choose the appropriate settings. Reaching for his wrist carefully she gently tugged on his arm bring him down next to her. She scooted close until there shoulders were touching. She could feel her cheek flush at the closeness. Titling her head a little closer she held the camera out in front of them. "One, Two, Three, Cheese." she counted down carefully, and snapped the photo.

Sora blinked her eyes once or twice as she was blinded from the flash. Straightening back up she flipped the camera over looking at the picture. A smile broke out on her lips. "Look how cute you are." she teased playfully. She titled the camera towards Joey so he could see. "I think it's a keeper." she spoke with excitement. "Oh! I can print one out for you if you want? I brought my portable printer with me."

Your luck is amazing.

Raiko Tsuji
The only guy here...

Is he awake yet?

The girl hovered outside the door to the room next to hers. Here outside of B23 she seemed to have a few thoughts on her mind as she examined the door in front of her. All of them were currently related to her brother... She wasn't quite sure if he had woken up, nor if she should just try to walk right in. The door would likely be locked though... Surely Travis wouldn't be so foolish to leave it open. Curiosity overcame her as she reached for the handle, twisting it slightly before pushing forward... To her surprise the door opened with ease. He was that foolish. Slowly entering the room so as to not wake him if he were still sleeping this late, She took note of the surroundings... He had rather messily unpacked his bags. In fact it seemed like he had been digging for something.

" Just what are you sneaking in here for...? "

" Eh? " She let out in confusion as her eyes turned from the floor to see her brother, wide awake and relaxing back on his bed playing some handheld game. For the moment he had turned his attention towards her, brow raised in questioning. The fact that he seemed to be wide awake and ready for the day ahead though didn't settle well with the girl. Letting out a sigh, she began to move forward with less care for subtlety, shaking her head to show her annoyance as she approached her brother's bedside.

" How long have you been awake, Travis? "

" Eh... Since about nine or ten... " He stated rather casually, giving a shrug before turning his attention back to his game. Raiko's face simply grew annoyed by this revelation. She had been attempting to get his attention for several hours now but was concerned that he may have still been asleep. His sleeping schedule was abnormal to say the least, constantly shifting at whatever whim he had for the moment. Reaching out, she swiftly grabbed the two screened console from his hands, yanking it away while he was caught off guard. His focus went completely to her after that, his face showing annoyance as well.

" I've been trying to get your attention for hours now... Have you just been sitting in here playing this? " She raised the device, glancing it the screen to see just what he had been playing that consumed his attention. " You're not going to get a shiny eevee, Travis. " she stated rather bluntly, closing the device with a small clap sounding from the two pieces meeting. Her brother on the other hand finally let out a sigh, throwing his legs over the side of the bed before standing fully. He stood a good deal taller than her, But she was never going to let his height intimidate her if that was what he was going for. Letting out a sigh, He simply swiped the device back, a simple task as she let him take it, opened it once more to note that everything was in place. Saving his game quickly, he placed the system in his pocket before gently poking his sisters shoulder.

" Few hundred more eggs and its bound to happen. Odds are in my favor. " He said, tone completely serious, but not long after the male broke out int a small laugh. With a content sigh, Raiko allowed her annoyance to fade as her brother seemed to be ready to comply now.

" Come on, Lets go get something to eat, then maybe we can take a look around the inn some more? "

" Sure. I kinda wanted to go explore the outside a bit too. " Travis replied with a more casual tone now, stretching slightly before moving for his door, motioning behind him for his sister to follow. Without much word from either of the twins, they both left the room... Raiko taking note to lock the door behind her for her brother this time. A quick walk down the hall and down the flight of stairs and it wasn't long before the two made it outside the building they had been staying in. Raiko rather joyful jogged past her brother slightly, taking in the fresh air with a smile on her face. Coming up behind her, Travis simply patted his sisters head before continuing onward before she could retaliate. Their destination was the main building and while Raiko was in no real hurry to get back inside with such a comfortable feel outside, Travis didn't seem to share her appreciation at the moment. Maybe food was higher on his priority list than hers?

Catching back up to her brother before he put too much distance between them, She really had to appreciate the world around them. The two were relatively new to Thank You Inn... Their arrival having been a complete accident, honestly. But once here the two decided that they could change their plans and stay for a bit. They both seemed to appreciate the beauty of the place... Hiyokuna mountain was a rather tranquil setting. With the way their lives had been since their rise, the peaceful nature of the inn was a very welcome change.

Entering the main building finally, The two strolled down the halls towards the Inn's restaurant. Raiko smirked lightly as she came up to her brother's side, gently nudging him to get his attention.

" You know, Its because of you we almost missed lunch. " She stated, getting ahead of her taller sibling and entering the building's restaurant. Travis simply let out a chuckle, waving a hand rather dismissively before countering the statement. " And if you had just come in earlier we wouldn't be late, would we? " It was a fairly silly counter, implying that it could've been her fault at all. Indeed, he should've probably let his sister know that he was awake when she was knocking... But the game had his interest for the time being. Perhaps it was a bit childish.

" I'll remember to barge into your room next time. " She said with a grin, spinning to walk backwards in front of her brother so they could have a brief moment of face to face talking. " Maybe next time I'll come in at about 3am even, Hm? I could bring some water in an- " " Raiko! watch where you goi-... " Too late for both of them. In her focus to tease her brother, she had walked straight into a table where a blonde male was seated, roughly bumping the table and nearly falling into the male before regaining herself. Swiftly spinning on her feet, her face shot red from the sudden embarrassment. Travis could only just laugh.

" Oh god, I'm sorry I wasn't watching where I was going and... " She trailed off, realizing that she was still speaking in English. Pausing for a brief moment, she soon attempted her apology again in Japanese.

" I'm sorry... I wasn't paying attention to where I was heading. " she apologized once more... Shooting a glare back to her brother afterwards. He was still chuckling lightly at the whole situation. Really, so long as Raiko wasn't hurt physically or emotionally, Travis would often laugh at her misfortune. It was just how the two operated... She'd tease him relentlessly at times and he'd laugh when she made a mistake. Sibling love. Soon though, Both twins turned their attention onto the boy that she had run into. Out of all the empty tables and other places she could've run into... She just had to run into the one with this boy. Travis probably wouldn't let her live that down the rest of the day.
