    Gerik
    Sternheart

Gerik had poured another flagon of mead down his gullet in the time between Kai-O's settling in and Alice's arrival. He had set the container down none too gently and roughly wiped his face on his forearm when the door creaked open again. Gerik turned half-around, one thick arm rested on the back of the chair to balance him. As he watched Alice slink in, he noticed her opaque-white eyes and narrowed his own, until no trace of his friendly visage remained.

When she sat, Gerik turned back to Jeanne again and looked deep in thought, his brown eyes glazed over slightly. Eventually he looked up and met her gaze with a neutral expression.

"I suppose I got my wish. These two just might keep me busy for more than a single fight." He muttered into his beard, arms folded once more. The chair creaked as he leaned back in it, doing his best to relax as he watched Jeanne for her reaction.

I don't doubt that she can fight these two off without even breaking a sweat, but she's right. They must be getting desperate. She is the most outlandish fighter the arena's had for a very long time. Most have been like me, soldiers and guardsmne, or captured bandits. Normal swordsmen all. But now...I've never seen the likes of these two new bloods. Gerik thought to himself and ground his teeth together quietly.

Jeanne's eyes then followed a young woman who entered shortly after the strange man. There was something about this one that made the champion pause. Although appearing human, she couldn't help but feel like there was more to her blank stare then she could see. It was clear she could probably handle herself and the way she found her way around the room showed she was not as helpless as her eyes made her seem.

Two humans and a demon? Was she able to sense them? It would explain her ability to navigate with what seemed like nearly blind eyes. Jeanne would have to keep her eye on this one. Turning back towards Gerik, Jeanne gave him a reassuring look as she stood up and stretched. Arching her back, Jeanne looked over to the new girl.

"Welcome friend. Well, as welcome as being brought into forced bondage can be. May I have yout name?" Jeanne asked politely, willing to extend friendship with any who wished it. She also wanted to learn about everyone who came into the arena, should she happen to find herself at the end of one of their challenges.

"C'mon, Show me that you belong in this arena..."

Alice pulled out her dagger, seeing the blade as only a jagged silhouette until She placed a hand on the blade itself, rubbing her fingertips along the the flat side of it, her mind's eye projecting what She felt into what She saw, the silhouette now brightening up with a detailed view of the blade, using her finger to trace the rough, chipped sides, seeing that it had been much more abuse that She originally thought. She looked up at everyone else, taking notice into the more womanly silhouette, Her aura glowed with an odd look to it, It wasn't the normal pale green, it had a darkened tint, different to the other human in the room, seeing him grab a cup of sorts and drink down a liquid, most likely something alcoholic.

"What better way to enter the arena than drunk off your a**, Eh?" She spoke up, her eyes connecting to silhouettes head-shaped shadow. "Or are you merely drinking to numb what emotional pain you may have?" She asked, cocking a brow before her attention being brought to the woman before her. "Alice...I'm known as Crimson. Yourself?" She asked, getting a better view of the figure of the woman.

"...If not, then stop wasting my time and let me kill you..."

When Alice made her comment, Gerik simply shook his head gruffly in reply. He had returned his attention to her when Jenna had gotten up, and he now watched her play with her dagger. It suddenly struck him that she must be blind, her mannerisms all pointed to such a conclusion. He eyed the weapon, peered at it closely. The weapon looked old and well-used, but as battered as it was, it must be sturdy not to have broken from the stress it had already gone through.

With a brief smirk, he thought of his own weapons, dinged and dented. About the only part of them that didn't look worse for wear were the edges of both his gereatsword and longsword. Like any good soldier, he prioritised keeping the edge nice and level, and thus the blade as lethal as it could possibly be.

At least the new girl appears to be a fighter. That edge is just the right sharpness. Gerik thought, before he glanced over at the Kai-O, whom Alice had called a demon. If she's right, then he'll likely employ all sorts of otherwordly tricks. Been a while since I've fought anyone using magic, I'll have to practise more. He mused, then returned his eyes to the pair of women who squared off, one standing, one sitting down.

He could feel him self being drug somewhere, but he couldn't wake. Because in his mind him raging, and killing 5 of the six elders kept replaying of his mind, he couldn't remember what happened in the end, but it was obvious that he wasn't able to get to his daughters before he was over whelmed His right arm was reaching for nothing, but in his mind he was reaching for his daughters as he was being pulled away from them. He begun struggling to get away from the guards, but it quickly ended when he was thrown against a wall hard, His eyes opened, and he was in what seemed like a dungeon with other warriors, the guards left before he could realize. He sighed it appeared he was sent to the legendary Immortal Arena, He stood up. " This is the Immortal Arena isn't it?" He was looking for an answer from anyone in there.

Jeanne decided to turn the woman's comment into a joke aimed once again at Gerik. "I think he is still trying to find the water fountain, but he gives up and just continues to drink mead because at least that is out in the open on the tables." she answered, looking back towards Gerik and sticking her tongue out at him.

The Champion told notice of the woman's dagger as well, noting how well used it looked and how sharp the blade was. It would easily cut to the bone, tearing and ripping flesh as it did. It seemed like she enjoyed bleeding opponents to death over a quick jab to the heart. Pushing the thoughts out of her mind, Jeanne offered a friendly smile which afterwards she realized that the woman probably couldn't even see.

"I'm Jeanne, known as The Steel Rose, or Arena Grand Champion." she answered the woman, being sure not to sound proud or haughty. In fact she almost sounded sad when she mentioned being the champion. It was a empty title which only meant that she had survived down here longer than anyone should. "Did the guards at least explain how the arena works to you? Or am I going to have to do their job for them?" she asked, showing obvious disdain for her captors.

Jeanne quickly trailed off, the guards dragging another man in and tossing him roughly against the wall. In her younger days, Jeanne would have quickly rushed in to correct such cruelty. Now though, she knew interfering with any staff of the arena meant certain death, not only for her. The man was in strange clothes and was clearly no human. Two swords hung from his belt, one appearing to be made of crystal or diamond. "Unfortunately, yes, this is the Immortal Arena." Jeanne answered, trailing off as she watched the guards move by the barred doors.

Alice put her dagger away, Her eyes locking to the newest of the group, "And My owner thought we were late..." She muttered, examining the younger-looking male shadow. "That's what the audience considers it...Though, I have other names for this hell-hole." She said, getting up and stretching accordingly, turning to the gruff silhouette, now showing his weapons, He seemed to be fond of heavy weapons, he had the strong masculine figure to carry such. "I've never seen a man carry both a greatsword and a longsword, Do you wield both one-handed, or is one of them merely a back-up?" She asked the man, her eyes turning back to the woman, hearing what they called her. "Then I hope to fight you in battle at some point, If the audience considering you to be the Grand Champion, then I do not doubt your skill, but rather...honor it." Alice gave Jeanne a kind smile and stood up to pat the woman's shoulder, feeling the cold steel of the armor She wore.

He nodded his head as the female warriors answered his question, " Thank you for confirming it, Im Cryo." He sat back down with his arms on his legs, That means i only need to win ten battles and I get to go get my daughters. He looked at his hands, he had a few cuts and bruise's from fighting the Elders he stood up, and his wounds begun to heal. What seemed like blue energy came out of all his wounds, and he had no more cuts or bruise's. He walked up to one of the empty tables and looked around, " Is anyone allowed to drink this or do you have to win battles first?" He asked.

Jeanne bit her lower lip lightly. That wasn't the words she wanted to hear from this new warrior. Why did they want to test themselves? Why not simply win their ten battles and be free? Was the call of glory that seductive that most fell under it's spell? All the champion could do was give a slight nod and say, "If we were to meet on the battlefield that is your choice to make." Jeanne had lost track of how many times she had said that exact phrase. It was her way of saying that they should only fight her if they were completely serious.

Turning her attention back to the man in the strange robes, she forced a smile and motioned to the small kegs of mead on most tables. "Go ahead and drink up, its here for all combatants. We need something to keep out spirits up. My name is Jeanne Gagnier." Jeanne answered, still trying to put her finger on what this man was.

The arena continued to surprise today, producing another person who seemed like a complete mystery to Jeanne. Something was going on behind the scenes and the ex-knight did not like it one bit. How could this organization kidnap so many people, many of whom were important and well known like herself. Bribes and intimidation could be the answer, but would the Arena owners have that much influence? Jeanne had always questioned the Arena's intentions and motives but ignored them as paranoia, but now it was clear that there was something going on as more and more fighters began to enter the bloodworks.

He sat down at the table, and poured him some mead, as he drank his eyes widened, " This is Good..." His eye's went back to a plain stare, as he looked around at the warriors, he could tell people were wondering what he was. He showed absolutely no care, and continued drinking his mead, He looked back at the girl that told him, her name she had so many scars on her. He felt sorry, she was so young but he could tell she had seen a lot of death, as well as caused a lot of death in her short life. He shook his sympathy away quickly she was a potential enemy and by the looks of it quite powerful, " Its nice.... to meet you.. grand champion.." He looked at the other Girl Alice she seemed very confident He let a light smirk release that was probably something that would be honored in this place. " I wouldn't want to fight the champion i've even heard of her were im from.." He leaned back in his chair relaxing

When the door swung open yet again Gerik had risen from his seat and eyed the new arrival with his intent brown eyes. The sheer oddity of his appearance, with how he seemed to be cloaked in stars and bore swords somehow formed of gems, threw Gerik for a loop. With a grunted oath, he stomped over to a weapon rack balanced against the eastern wall, where his weapons lay. He swept up his sword and shield and thrust them towards Alice, clearly to show her that he didn't fight with one sword in each hand. That question answered, he stomped over to one of the sack dummies and drove his sword into it silently. He didn't seem to be in the mood to talk as he raised his shield to ward off imaginary blows and struck at the inanimate target.

Jeanne's joke and subsequent tongue-sticking-out earned her a grumpy, bear-like snort, though the lines of his face softened somewhat as he whaled away with his sword.

When Jeanne told Cryo to go ahead and drink, Gerik slammed his shield into the dummy, producing a fearsome thud
    .
"Don't drink all my mead." He grunted, though his eyes glinted with amusement as he carved a line across the dummy's chest and stepped back to avoid getting straw all over his boots. "I'm Gerik Ostvensson. You can call me Sternheart if you prefer to use Arena names." The ex-guardsman added and straightened up as he rolled his cannonball shoulders.

After one last glance at each of the newcomers, Gerik returned his sword and shield to the rack and instead drew forth his greatsword. He looked up and down the blade critically, then returned to his chair and reached for a strop and a hunk of stone. Soon, the rasp of rock on steel shrieked out as Gerik brought the blade of his greatsword to a satisfactory level.

Jeanne was surprised to hear Cryo say that he had heard of her when she didn't even know what he was. Try she had been champion here for longer than any other warrior but certainly she couldn't be that famous. At least he had stated he did not wish to fight her. That only left her with the quiet man in the strange armor and the girl in red to worry about. Turning towards Cryo, she leaned against a table, resting on her elbow.

"Since you know about the arena then I am safe in assuming you know the rules. It's clear that you are taking being here much better than most." she stated as an observation. She then began to wonder exactly how much he knew about her? Was she just some legend, or passing news of the day? She knew that any time she was called into the ring the crowds seem to grow almost instantly, all wishing to see their champion in action. Either way, it wasn't something she needed to worry about to much right now.

"Don't worry Gerik, although if he does drink all of it, it gives you a reason to switch to water or tea." Jeanne joked, having a hard time imagining the burly warrior without mead stains on his clothes and drops of the golden liquid in his beard.

~Adonis, The Lowly Sand Monkey~

The sounds of shackles and chains could be heard down the corridor as two guards escorted a bronze skinned man between them. The man had long flowing crimson hair that ran down to his waist. His amber eyes just gazed at the ground as he shamefully held his head low. The guards opened the iron door and pushed him inside the room where there were already four others, two females and two males already there engaging in conversation. "Maybe she can teach this Sand Monkey some manners." The guards said as they closed the door behind and locked the door, not bothering to free Adonis from his chains. She, was referring to Jeanne Gagnier, the current Champion of the Arena. They expected her to keep people like him in check.

Adonis just placed his hands on the iron barred window as he stared out into the hallway watching the guards walk away. This was the second time Adonis had attempted to escape and the second time he had been caught. Those that followed the rules were treated more like guests while those who rebelled, such as Adonis, were treated like prisoners. Adonis didn't take any time to observe his surroundings and just continued to stare out through the iron bars, planning his next move.

"Gives me a reason to storm the keep." Gerik replied with a guttural growl, before he chuckled in his deep bass tone. His attention distracted, Gerik looked around the room again and pursed his lips as he watched Cryo for a moment, then looked back and forth between the Starman and Kai-O. Both other male - as near as he could tell - warriors unsettled Gerik the most, for they were singularly unique in his experience. Before today, he would have confidently claimed that he had seen a great deal more than most men (or women, he thought with a glance at the two fighting females). He had been reminded of just how narrow his experience was, though, and it humbled him more than he had been for quite some time.

The brawny man had just returned to his maintenance when the door was flung open for the umpteenth time. The jangle of manacles caught Gerik's attention, and he lifted his shaggy head again to watch as Adonis was dragged in. With a resigned grunt, Gerik got to his feet and hefted his greatsword onto his shoulder, careful not to carve himself up.

"Ho, Gerudo." Gerik called out. He held his sword tightly as he picked his way across the to stand by Adonis. Like the darker-skinned man, Gerik peered past the iron bars, then, satisfied all was clear, he grabbed the chain that linked Adonis' wrists and tapped it with his thumb.

"Put it over the stool, I'll get it loose." Gerik grunted.

Cryo smirked as the large man told him not to drink all his mead, " I will try not to." He put his glass down it was empty now, and nodded as the man told him his name, " It nice to meet you Sternheart." He watched the man as he displayed his strength it was indeed impressive. His attention went back to Jeanne as she asked him if he knew the rules He smiled, " Were I was from I was a general, It was one of my goals to one day come here, and liberate this place so i learned as much as I could about it including the rules..." He sighed but it quickly went away, " But as you can see Im here as a combatant, and that goal has been replaced. Buts its one that doesn't matter to anyone else." He shrugged, " And Determination is the reason Im not freaking out." He put his right arm on the table, and leaned on it with his head looking away from Jeanne.
