There are places of power. Places of destiny. Holy places where ley lines cross and the surrounding countryside surges with magikal energy. Some say that the forces of fate are drawn to these places. That each is a nexus. A point where the tides of history will be turned. Where the world will be forever changed. A nexus is both a blessing and a curse. They are a powerful resource to whomever claims them. We who possesses a nexus, it is said, holds the power to shape the world. But they are so hotly contested among mages and kings that merely defending a nexus can be the dismantling of an entire nation. Ley lines are eternal but they are not unchanging. Indeed, it is their very nature to be in a constant state of flux, to be ever-changing. This is life. This is magik. Not the mere parlor tricks of circle-sorcery. Magic is the incarnation of will and its expression upon the face of reality. Not a sad scrawl upon some ancient parchment. As such, one can never predict when a nexus may fade away or where a new one may be born. But what would happen if a nexus were born not as a place, but as a man?

I present to you, o gentle reader, the nation of Sirra. One of six nations within the continent of Marael, Sirra was a nation known largely for its fairly simplistic lifestyle. Located in the center of Marael, Sirra was often referred to as the cultural center of the land, but its five neighbors bore vastly different manners and - although the Sirran nobles were never given credit - would have a much more troublesome time with one another were it not for Sirran intervention and diplomacy.
To the southeast, the "ruling" nation (if any was to be declared dominant) of Nedra stood as a bastion of all things glory. Despite its nearly militaristic lifestyle, the Nedran life is not a bad one, per se - merely one that places priority on law and order to an extreme, and subsequently has adopted an unfriendly attitude towards outsiders. Very little coming and going comes on without raising questions.
To the far east, the nation of Rhyla was as close to a statement of arcane prowess as could be perceived by the mortal eye. Whole cities of arcane studies and towers alike gave way to a predominantly gnomish society. Regrettably enough, with arcane centers comes high monetary value, and with value comes crime. The streets of urban Rhyla were most certainly ones not to be trusted.
To the northwest, Irus was founded and built. Commonly seen as a nation built solely on mystery, the Irusians more commonly adopted powers of the mind above all else, and for as much as the rumors might be worth, the life of an Irusian was not one most would label as abnormal, despite their more silent ways.
Conversely, southwest of Sirra stood Pramucae, whom other nations often jokingly referred to as the "home of the homeless", and indeed was a nation known for a primal and nomadic culture. Few permanent establishments were ever raised in the wild lands, but most of these were erected for the exclusive purpose of outsiders within the miles and miles of nomadic hunting grounds that was the nation itself.
Lastly, the Cardeian theocracy. Much like Rhyla, Carde was organized almost to perfection as a neighbor of Nedra, but as opposed to the glorification of the arcane arts, not one street in Carde lacked in a temple, and while most tourists would have a pleasant time observing from afar, the multi-religious disputes of every god in Faerun worshipped so nearly to each other would have easily escalated to civil war had it not been for the extensive patrols ensuring peace from exactly that.

As fate would have it, our story begins in the suburbs of the Sirran capital, Ulriya. News travels fast on four legs, so it was told. As it were, it had been two days since rumor began to spread from the walls of Ulriya that war was coming - or at the very least, made a threat under which conditions would not be met. With the whole continent not involved in any war for the past seventy years, the news was alarming but not incredibly surprising. However vague the rumors were, the Sirran government had sent out posters and fliers as a call to arms, which suggested (at least in the public eye) that the famous Sirran diplomatic methods had failed. Many of the more civil people of the nation had already fled to Pramucae in fear for their lives, while others remained behind and either gathered their things to take action, or lived on in the hopes that conflict would pass them by...

To any and all who might have an interest in taking part in this adventure of ours, you are more than welcome and indeed invited to send me a message with any related inquiry. I am not picky; all I need in essence is an idea of what character or characters you would be interested in bringing into the world.

With a great many things explained by the dragon priestess, Kal-Tur'si, our heroes Josephine and Daye are off to deliver their ailing friend to the sanctuary of Pramucae following numerous confessions from Kal-Tur'si herself amounting to her truer intentions; that she carries within her person the very nexus once belonging to the theocracy of Carde, and none other than her brother - whom she claims to hold malicious intent - carries that of Rhyla and has situated himself behind the Nedran throne and thus behind the invasion.

At present however, with a day of travel behind them, the triumverate have taken repose in a refuge of private sanctum offered by none other than Kal-Tur'si herself...

The day was young. The sun shone all but glimmering just above the horizon, but not all was well in the streets of Ulriya. The almost-uniform posters scattered throughout the city had caused many to flee in panic from the Nedran army, and yet in the midst of it all, several who considered themselves more able-bodied or heroic to a fault remained behind to fortify their defenses. In the midst of the bazaar however, a pale yet seemingly unaged woman stood to the side, occasionally stopping one individual or another and requesting an escort. However, as time wore on, every request was met with refusal, and her already-worried complexion grew increasingly uneasy.

After some time, the normally-packed streets emptied, and the same woman remained still, every now and again offering a quiet prayer to Bahamut seeking a fortunate turn of events. Something had to change, else the goings would only get far worse from here...

I wish only that I had the power to prevent this.

"Natalie~?" A woman's voice calls down a long corridor. The tall waif-like being jogs around the corner to greet the sight of her current homestead's cat sitting quite primly on a The morning sun cast silly shadows over the felines form as it peered almost mischievously up from where it was cleaning a paw. It hadn't gone far however the woman knew that Natalie could disappear as she saw fit (curse her for leaving the door unlatched, but her mind had wandered. Just as primly the cat hopped down from the short wall and trotted back in the direction of its owner's home intent on whatever meal there was to be had.

With a huff Daye adjusted the shoulder of her travel bag. She'd already said her goodbyes to Crysta, a kind, portly woman with a red face and equally red hair. Shed'd all but badgered Daye into staying with her in her too large house. It was just her and the cat after all. Unfortunately her tale was one the Rhylain had heard before, either fleeing or drafting took her sons and daughters. She had a late husband who'd died to disease. Just her and that cat. Daye had seen those 'Recruitment posters' A call-to-arms if ever she saw one. It hadn't interested her one bit not her fight for sure and no one had asked her a damned thing. It was a wonder she had made it into the city at all.

Streets near empty, shops either closed or closing. Ulriya was not the fun city she had hoped for. Or at least heard it was. Straight-laced but bustling with many interesting and different peoples. It'd be a nice change from the road as it became dull traveling on ones own.

For the first time since she began Daye looked at the place the little brown cat had lead her. It was the bazaar. Of course. Someone had been feeding that little fat cat so of course she'd have been inclined to wander down here. It did not matter, the scenery did not change. The streets were bare to the point of looking ghastly.

"Oh bother..." the woman sighs. She cast red-brown eyes around at the people still hanging about. Some of them were too dumb to leave, others too fool hearty. Daye did not fear the approaching army not because she was so brave, brash warrior with extreme skills, nor was it because she was welcoming of the invaders. No, it was more that she couldn't fear them. If anything the turn of events (though not only a recent concern) made her absolutely giddy. In fact at the moment, thinking of the issue had her practically skipping down the near-abandoned streets until she reached a rather somber-looking woman. Quite pretty this one was, very still and posed however her face! Oh that look. Curious, very curious indeed.

"Oh~?" Daye sank into her hip, one hand at her waist. Her face was carefully constructed picture of concern, voice carrying a heavy twang as she said "Missy, are you feeling ill? Why such a glum face?"

Through the haze of prayerful concentration, the woman heard but a single voice nearby that altogether snapped her out of her reverie and bade her pay attention to the world immediately about herself. Before her stood a darkened woman, one whom had evidently deemed her worthy of notice, though the question it provoked from her was entirely on the wrong course. Still, as far as she could tell, this particular individual seemed fit for the road, if perhaps marginally so. Even as a warm smile found its way onto the pale woman's face, she gave a slight shake of her head. "Oh, no..." She offered. "I am perfectly well, thank you, but..."

In that moment, a thought struck her; perhaps it was not entirely impossible that such interest from one such as this woman whom had approached her was more than mere coincidence. Traveled or not, she did catch at the edge of her mind something more to her than met the eye, though exactly what that was, she could not place immediately. "I am troubled, nonetheless." She admitted hesitantly, a quiet sigh escaping her as once again she closed her eyes. "For some time now, I have been seeking out an escort that might see me to the forests of Pramucae, but as you can see... I have found no success so far."

I wish only that I had the power to prevent this.

Daye's hand rose to pat the woman on the shoulder then paused thinking better of the action and placed her arm back at her side. Dropping the mask of worry (altogether and simplistic emotion to imitate) she offered the pale woman a smile of her own.

"Oh is that all!?" With a small chuckle she rolled her wrist in a dismissive gesture at her own question. From the look of the woman she seemed to ave an air about her. Almost...regal? Nah that wasn't it but it was the closest word that fit. Daye had a moment to wonder if she lived here? If it were the case Daye couldn't say she hadn't seen a woman quite like her. Aesthetically she was very beautiful, even so... there was a ripple in the air around her. Nothing overtly noticeable but still there all the same. It wasn't threatening by any means so the dark-haired woman chose to ignore it.

The dark amber orbs blinked gain curiosity, then glee! Oh the woman was traveling! Wonderful, perhaps not to the far reaches like her but perhaps she'd have a brief companion for a journey. It wasn't as if there was a call to stay and it would satisfy her curiosity to boot! She was going to leave town anyway especially after the last two days. No fun to be had here any more, not when there were hardly any people and with as solemn as some of them were Daye's usual cheerful mood seemed to put them off.

"So~ Ya need an escort through the wild and these 'kind' folks haven't stopped to offer a lady help, or direct her in the right direction. It shocks me!" She clapped her hands in a decisive manner, "I happen to be a bit of a wanderer, I haven't stopped through Pramucae in some odd years. "If I may ask why is it ya wanna head into the forest?" Is scattered as she was on most days the Illusionist knew she had to keep her head when talking to others. Giving another the benefit of the doubt was one thing, naivete was another.

However inaccurate Kal-Tur'si found the implicit allegation that the townsfolk of Ulriya were anything short of unreasonable with her request, she did find it mirthful in its own right as well, and gave a quiet chuckle as she let the humor of the immediate situation rise to the surface. Still, she gave a slight shake of her head and closed her eyes. "I do not discredit the kindness of the people here, please do not misunderstand, but I..." She paused for a moment at that, mulling silently over what words best to use. "The circumstances surrounding my retreat are such that I cannot reveal my identity or my intentions safely until I am beyond the gates."

"As it happens, the unexplained request of a priestess of Bahamut seeking refuge is enough to frighten the people." She went on, a quiet sigh escaping her before once again she opened her eyes, seeming for a moment almost to have accepted the reality of what might come if she were to be continually given to further searching - or worse yet, leaving on her own. "I am afraid there is little I can offer right at this moment but my thanks and what support I may lend on the journey, but I assure you all of this will be explained once we are safely away."

I wish only that I had the power to prevent this.

Daye would seem proud at the laughter. She had meant her odd exclamation as humorous in nature. She didn't have a thought positive or negative of the populace as a whole just that she wasn't inclined in helping the lot of them. Their problems were not hers.

"A Priestess of Bahamut, eh?" Daye let the thought roll around in her head for a moment. She'd never actually had any interactions with men and women of robe. There had been little need. Niggling thoughts made her head swim though. A blank purpose and need to wander pulled her in all directions. It had always been so even when she'd had a home to return to. Then there was the other pull. Conscious working against the others. Unsure what to mak of the current situation. It was suspicious not to have a name to put to the face but the mystery also exciting. The dark-haired woman was of two or three minds about what to do!

"Well, I haven't a direction I am in need of going so I wouldn't mind accompanying you if that is what you wish." Daye crossed thin heeled shoes in a small curtsy, "I am Daye, traveler and adept illusionist! At your service!"

Josephine Vanguard

Heiress to the Vanguard family

Age:18
Height: 5'3''

It was a long trip and each day of it felt like a year as a young woman made her way through the streets of Ulriya. But her troubles where not over as sadly her family name was well known and the heirloom that she had was even more so. She received many looks some of awe and others of curiosity and even a few of desire. But the young woman moved on though she had no set destination for anywhere was better than home. The young woman's name Josephine the heiress to the famous Vanguard family of Nedra. It was a family known to birth ,train , and produce the nation's mightiest knights. Which would bring up one question why would its heir be in the capital of another nation? Well that answer came as soon as she reached the bazaar. She placed down the massive blade which was her family's heirloom stretched her arms and said "FINALLY! IM FREE FROM THAT MAN!". A relived look came onto her face as she looked around to make sure she did not embarrass herself in front of too many people. But to her surprise there was barely anyone around all which made her think about the fact that she has sen many people leaving the city.

"Guess I better ask around not like I got anything better to do." Josephine said to herself picking up her massive blade that her family calls 'Vanadis' she looked around to see if there was anyone she could bother. She saw two women talking ,one seemed to be a member of a religion and the other a traveler, maybe they could answer her questions? So dragging herself to where they where Josephine then said with a voice that showed her hertige " Why hello there if you don't mind may I ask the two of you a question or two? I am in need of some information."

Kal-Tur'si could not for a moment dismiss that she had brought tension into the conversation, but the truth of the matter remained the same; the utterance of so much as her name could alert anyone capable enough to scry the city. Still, the woman's reluctance came to a halt with the declaration of her willingness, and even through the absolute paleness of her complexion, the priestess' face very well seemed to light up at the news - and even further at the introduction.

Naturally, in turn she gave a bow of her head and a slight tilt of her frame as well. "Well-met, D-" She found herself cut short as another, much more youthful voice broke in - followed with the approach of...

For a moment, Kal-Tur'si froze; despite her appearance, this girl was far from ordinary. She stood silent for a moment before giving her a slight nod. "Y... yes, of course." She nodded again. "What may I help you with?"

I wish only that I had the power to prevent this.

The woman belonging to a religion seemed a bit put off by Josephine's sudden interruption of her conversation with the other woman but she could care less. Taking a small breath Josephine then asked " Do any of you two know what the heck is going on in this city? Or better yet this nation? Ever since I have arrived here people have been running scared or just outright leaving. I mean I saw about a good one hundred people leave this city today!". Josephine composed herself like the knight she was raised to be but then she remembered a lesson in mannerisms she was taught a long time ago and she face palmed really quickly. She then said " Oh forgive me I forgot my manners....ugh." She then bowed and said with a bored voice that then turned into one of interest " My name is Josephine Vanguard forgive me sudden interruption of your conversation but you two are the only ones around............No like really you two are the ONLY ones here!" after saying that Josephine gestured to take a look around the bazaar. It was close to empty." I'll pay you for the info I mean I have more than enough funds!".

Daye cocked her head at the intrusive voice. In fact to any one who knew Daye, she'd have even appeared startled. Her eyes were just a bit too wide and her smile showing a bit more teeth than necessary. She was actually fighting to need to growl at the intruder for having startled her. The woman took few moments to process that there was indeed no threat, yet.

Instead she turned on her pointed heels and smiled balefully at Josephine and took the time to take in her appearance. The weapon the girl seemed to carry looked a might to big and to heavy for her but she was carrying it with little effort. Clearly to heavy for Daye to lift at all then. She could lift a great many things but wielding and weapon and picking things up to throw them were two different ball games.

At the mention of payment Daye cocked her head in curiosity. A noble perchance? A warrior class even. Here? Well then, it seemed her day was getting more and more interesting by the minute. "Oh~ Little one, there are a great many things happening in this town or there will be." Her smile was mirthful if a bit vicious. "There is an army on the march you know~"

Kal-Tur'si paused for a moment as Daye answered for her, the foremost thought in her mind being to determine what she could of this newcomer's identity. She had taken an oath of poverty anyway; she had very little business exchanging mere words for coin. Instead, she closed her eyes and brought her hands near to each other, as if circling an orb between them - which in turn brought the space between them to a faint white field of energy as she launched herself into the throes of a spell.

When she opened her eyes again, the same mistlike energy that filled the space between her hands poured from her eyes as well, the spell itself diving into Josephine's past and - more to the point - to her home and family. What she found both worried and confused her, yet as she closed her eyes again, only calm expressed itself in her features.

For the time being, she felt it was better to let Daye handle things, at least until she knew of Josephine's purpose in being there. She had said after all, that so much as her name could bring the wrath of the army down upon her; if revealing herself now had even been an option before, the presence of a Nedran warrior so nearby dashed such thoughts before she could possibly think to act on them.

In all this, with a polite clearing of her throat, she simply stepped back to the wall, affording the other two more space to converse.

I wish only that I had the power to prevent this.

"say what?" Josephine said in a questioning voice , the notion of an army coming was strange since she heard Sirran were masters at diplomacy. Thinking back Josephine said to herself " Guess I should have paid more attention to those history classes!". after saying that she took a look at the woman who answered her and well she laughed......loudly. The woman's face was hilarious to Josephine though she meant no harm. She then attempted to speak some more while filtering out her laughter " So hahaha why are..HAHA......you guys hehehehe.....still here? PFFFFFFTTT HAHAHA!". At this point she was holding Vanadis with one hand and using the other to hold her belly to keep her from falling over. After getting the laughter out of her system she then said " Also hehe why is there an army heading here anyway? Not like this Nation is particularity strong or threatening!". The thought of trying to act like a standard citizen crossed Josephine's mind but at this point it was too late. She did also notice the woman in robes doing some sort of spell but Josephine did not let it bother her since well if she felt something hurting her one good swing from Vanadis would end it.

Kal-Tur'si remained silent for a moment at Josephine's clear - yet unmistakably unbridled - confusion. She raised an eyebrow at this and let free her spell, watching for a moment as it faded into nothingness; she had found what she needed to know anyhow. "How... how is it that you haven't learned of this sooner?" She asked, concernedly for the most part. "Rumor has held that the Nedran leadership has made a bold move into militarization and has launched a campaign in conquest over the whole of the continent..."

She paused again, still puzzling over how a member of a reputable Nedran family ranking among its finest could be ignorant of its latest activities... yet she seemed genuinely confused over the matter. Either she was an impressive actress, or she was nothing short of blindfolded by the political posturing. "If... if I may ask... what is it that brings you to the city of Ulriya, miss Vanguard?" Her voice was not at all accusatory, but moreso out of her own confusion and even concern for the well-being of one whom she had only moments ago felt imminently threatened by.

I wish only that I had the power to prevent this.
