Byerley nodded, as he checked his rifle and made sure the round was loaded and ready to go. He’d perhaps only have one if they indeed encountered raiders out in the field. So far, however, things had been quiet as Byerley kept watch in his own portion of the field, scanning the horizon line for signs of movement. The sun hadn’t quite risen to the point that any light it cast would be of use, even to his eyes, so he lingered uncertainly in spots before moving on to gain a different vantage point again.
Something at the edge of his field of vision caused him to pause and wait, rifle slung at his right hip as he cupped his hands around his mouth, turning to the others to issue a sort of harsh crow-call that caused the actual creatures to become startled and take to the sky. The raiders were still a ways off, and hadn’t spotted them yet, however the crows taking flight had caused their pacing to slow and quicken. As he watched, Byerley couldn’t help but to smirk to himself. That had been a damn good call if it alerted the actual species.
—No time for gloating, he reminded himself; rifle in hand as he remained still and took careful aim.

Needless to say, the Raiders were many feet away from him before he fired off a shot, killing the encumbered packmule of the group instantly, as the bullet took the back of his skull with it upon exit.
He barely had time to shoot another in the throat before scatter shot caught his leg. It barely registered on the tactile web under the synthetic flesh, however it alarmed his system that he briefly contemplated fleeing but—unlike Eva—didn’t have time to detect where the mines were.
Another grazing shot bit into the dirt by his feet as he braced and reconsidered that decision. With eyes scanning the ground quickly as he made his way back to the others, he managed to make it close enough that he wouldn't have to shout at the others. "We have a problem, there's a group of raiders--two dead, but two are still living!" With any luck the Raiders would still be trying to figure out which direction the shots had come from and that may stall them for a few moments.

Jamison had his nose practically buried in the dirt focusing on the mine he had unearthed when some annoying crow began shouting over something. Stupid birds. Instead, he focused his attention on the mine before him. The blinking orange light seemed to be taunting him, as though stating, "Come on. One mistake and I blow your hand off, kid." Poor, stupid mine. Jamison had tackled machines far, far more complex than a mere mine. With deft hands, he easily pressed the sequence of buttons that would disarm the mine, and he chuckled as the orange light slowly died. Why Jamison?! Why did you kill me?! I had a family! Jamison then paused for a moment. He'd spent entirely too much time around machines, he mused.

The crow call became more insistent, and the young man sighed, looking up to see if there was a crow he could snipe. However, his eyes fell on the group of raiders across the minefield, and he suddenly felt a sense of dread wash over him. Q, it appeared, had already dropped a pair of them, but it looked like he would need help. Glancing to his right, he saw EVA at the edge of the minefield, and he called out to her, "EVA! Pattern Beta-Six! Now!" EVA let out a mechanical series of staccato beeps before starting to drift along the side of the minefield. In the meantime, Jamison withdrew his pistol.

This was one case where he was glad that he had thought to bring a longer-range weapon than his shotgun; he would have been torn apart if he had tried to use that short-range gun. He took a moment to glance around himself before dropping prone into the dirt. He sighted down the barrel and began to fire off a series of rapid laser blasts towards the Raiders. One of the men followed his line of fire and dropped to his knee, returning fire with his rifle. The bullets impacted around him from that range, so fortunately he wasn't in any danger. Still, he would have felt better without bullets impacting the dirt around his face.

This exchange of fire continued for a few moments, Jamison missing badly, and the Raider likely wondering why this boy was trying to hit him from such a long distance. But Jamison's intention was merely to distract the man from what was going to happen next. Suddenly, the Raider screamed in pain as something hot lanced through his leg. Turning, he saw EVA drifting towards him, bright red bolts lancing towards him. He turned to the machine and tried to return fire, but at that moment, Jamison shot him from behind. It didn't hit anything vital, but it drove into the man's leg. The Raider stumbled backwards... into the minefield. The man exploded, releasing a cloud of dust that covered EVA, allowing her to pull back and leaving just one Raider.

The man kept his hands in the air as the man seemed to debate whether to lower his gun or keep it trained on his chest. Just as he was sure the man was going to oblige him a rather large old man and a beast of a dog came around the corner. He raised an eyebrow as the old man spoke and kept his hands in the air. "Easy there. I don't mean any disrespect. Simply pointing out if I meant to harm anyone I would have done it from far away" he said calmly. The man rested his hand on the sling of his rifle and slid it off of his shoulder, resting it on the ground. The man took his pistols holsters off and set them down on the ground. "I'm just going to reach in my pocket and grab my cigarettes, nothing more" he said. The man reached into his pocket and pulled a cigarette out and his lighter, lighting both up and putting both away. "I'm simply passing through. I've been walking for a mighty long time and am finding myself rather tired and sore. Just came in looking for a place to stay and a bit of work. That ain't much of a crime now is it?" he asked. He kept calm as he took a drag of his cigarette and let the cloud of smoke roll through his lips. "Now can we act like a couple of civilized folks and talk this over a glass of whiskey?" he offered.

Max patrolled alongside Silas around town. The company was a plus he figured. Most of the town was pretty quiet and on alert, so his stories prevented things from being dull, not that he couldn't cope if it did. He would listen and at the same time survey the areas they walked about.

Things got a little interesting when
Silas suddenly called for a pause by the Fission Hole. He looked at examined the newcomer that arrived in town. Silas didn't hesitate to get on the new arrival like white on rice, demanding he drop his weapons. A grenade launcher though...seemed a little much in this situation, but hey...it was Silas after all. The newcomer dropped his weapons and obliged. Probably a relief.

Max puffed his cigarette and tapped
Silas' grenade launcher. "I'm likin' the gung ho, but put that thing away for now, pops. Wouldn't wanna risk blowin' up your favorite drinkin' spot would you?" He mildly teased, despite his plain gruff tone. He put down his ranger helmet and walked up and picked up the newcomer's weapons. He holstered his and the man's pistols, holding and examining the hunting rifle. After all, he had one himself and could appreciate it. He placed the rifle by Silas in case he'd like to examine it himself too or just to hold while he speaks to the man. "You don't look like a raider let alone speak like one. But you came at a bad time, stranger. Whole town's on alert for a raider invasion so you'll have to excuse the hostilities." He inhaled his cigarette and blew. Curious now, he pulled out one of the man's pistols and examined it, running a finger through the engravings. A Ranger Sequoia. Seems like ages since Max saw one. It brought him back to his Ranger days. You comin' from the Mojave? Maybe California? Arizona perhaps even. What brings you out here?

The man waited patiently, whether it was for his own demise or for the man to accept his offer when the other man took his side. The man took a breath of relief as the man seemed to be thinking clearly. "I noticed, managed to sneak in though. Only had to kill one of them and I did it very quietly" he said with a chuckle. The man took a slow drag of his cigarette and let it roll through his lips. He watched as the man examined his weapons and had give the man some credit for recognizing it. He looked down at the grown and noticed the man's helmet. NCR Veteran Ranger. "Yeah. Los Angeles to be precise. Bought the sequoias off a Crimson Caravaner. Those are my babies" he said with a chuckle. "I'm guessing that you are from the Arizona, California, and Nevada area by the looks of the NCR Veteran Ranger Helmet, have some respect for the Rangers, not so much so for the rest" he said taking another drag. The man took his hat off and wiped some sweat off of his brow. "Like I said, just a bit of a wanderer, which doesn't exactly pay will so I stopped in town to get a bit of work and rest in. Maybe a bit of gambling if I can manage it" he said with another chuckle.

Silas wasn't all too convinced that this guy wasn't trouble. But Max had gone ahead and taken his weapons from him as well as make a valid point against blowing up the Fission Hole. So he reluctantly eased off the hammer and clicked the safety on the launcher.

He slid it back to his waist and then took a moment to take the rifle at his feet. He examined it carefully and noted that it was decent working condition. The guy obviously wasn't an amateur. The quick glance that he took of the twin pistols told him what he wanted to know about the man. But he kept quiet. Better to play dumb than to act smart. At least, sometimes.

When Max was done talking, and saying what it was he needed to say, the Old Man nodded his head in the direction of the Fission hole. "Head inside, Stranger. We'll check yer weapons in fer ya and you can have yerself a drink. In the future, if'n and when ya go an find yerself walk'n into a village that be occupied, try to be a bit less rude an arrogant. We got enough of that go'n around anyway."

Silas took a step back offering the man his space so he could head inside peacefully. No harm done, no foul, so they say. As far as first impressions went, this man was a s**t bag. But Silas was one to forgive easily because he knew, better than most, just how harsh the waste can be. And, s**t like that can have some serious effects on a man's well being.

He called for princess and she made her way to the door first. Busting inside like she owned the place and making her way for the back room where Angus was most likely cooking. What ever could a dog be wanting inside a kitchen? Maybe an Angus patty. Either way she wanted it, Angus was usually good about giving her something. Which is probably why she always made for the kitchen first. Old habits die hard.

Max nodded as the man mentioned he killed a raider as he was sneaking in. "One less raider to worry about." He inhaled another smoke. "Snuck in, huh. Perfect for entering a town on edge..." He said simply as he puffed his cigarette. then looked at his helmet on the ground as the man did then looked back at him. Seems as far as the whole "friends-from-home" bit goes, it seems this man was closest that would come come to. "Never figured I'd see someone close to home come all the way out here. Nevada born n'raised. Did a tour in Arizona while with the Rangers, fighting off Caesar and his skirt-wearing b*****d legion. Been to California once on an escort mission some time after the NCR moved in and signed the treaty."

He turned his head to
Silas as he led the way to the bar. He looked back at the man. "The patrons and the owner of the bar have a stake in this town and everyone knows them. You gain their trust or at least be decent in their books, you could get your weapons back and not be hassled as much. A rest and a drink could be in it for you, too. Hell, if you can get SIlas over here to like you, I'd say you'd be doin' a helluva job, but I don't blame him for being on the fence about you. If you want a job, talk to Shawn the bartender. He might be able to help with that."

He turned and looked at
Silas "Gonna go in for a drink yourself?" He asked plainly

The man listened to the man speak and chuckled. "My thought exactly" he said flicking his cigarette. The man shrugged at his comment about sneaking in. "Not my smartest idea but it's smarter then putting my odds against them" he said. He smiled a bit at his comment. "I agree, finding my way from California into this slice of the world" he said with a grin and a chuckle. The man listened as the man said that he could get his guns back by giving a good impression to the town. He chuckled as he said he could do better by making friends with Sila. "Something tells me that's easier said then done" he said with a grin and a chuckle. The man offered his hand. "Thanks for making a wanderer feel welcomed. Ever need me just ask for 'Issac, Gunny, Or Colt', all different names tied to the same man" he said with a chuckle. He shook the man's hand and walking into the Fission Hole. He found a seat and took it as he took his back pack off and pulled his deck of cards out setting up a game of Solitaire for himself. He was curious if a waiter or waitress would ask if he wanted a drink or if he would have to go up to the counter, either way he didn't care.

Casually Stella saluted Valentine and moved into position. Her job mainly entailed keeping her eyes open, and listening to instructions from Jamison and Valentine. Stella was regarding the pair as the experts on minefield safety. Mostly she kept her eyes on Byerly and EVA, but occasionally Stella would stare down her hunting rifle, and immediately dismiss the target as some annoying critter, tumble weeds and just about anything else that moved. But nothing worth wasting ammunition on, or luring in Raiders with the sound for that matter.

Stella was tracking the movements of EVA when her head suddenly whipped around to the sound of gunfire. She caught sight of Byerly and tracked the targets from the direction he was aiming. By the time she spotted them in the distance two of them were already dead. The ex mercenary had her sights on a third Raider when Jamison opened fire. Though his attack seemed to hit nothing, it did cause the last two Raiders to take cover, effectively cutting off Stella's chances of a clean shot. "I hope you know what you're doing..." Stella mumbled, but kept her eyes on the target's hideout. She was a little irritated with Jamison but seemed to hide it well. Finally Jamison's plan reached its conclusion, but Stella just clicked her tongue. All that dust might be helping his robot escape, but it was basically giving the same advantage to the remaining raider. All was quiet for a moment, and Stella was beginning to think the last target had gotten away. Until suddenly it broke free of the dust cloud, sprinting in the opposite direction to the one it had come. Stella wasted no time taking out the moving target. However from this distance she couldn't tell if the Raider was dead, just that the bullet had hit high and the body had gone down. "Someone better check that guy, just in case." Stella spoke, as she lowered her rifle. Then she glanced back at Valentine, "echoes around here a bit. You almost done? Because some unfriendly bastards might come to check out all the noise." She asked her friend, sounding a bit concerned about the possibility of reinforcements.

"Definitely time to go!" The sounds of gunfire could carry far out here. Valentine was torn between picking her way across the field and putting down any survivors of her comrades assault, but decided to go after the wheelbarrow. They needed those explosives, or would. She pulled her sleeves down roughly to cover her hands, and gripped the ancient handles. The barrow, somewhat filled, was definitely more awkward to handle than when it was empty but she'd manage.

She wanted Stella and Byerley's hands free for their long-range rifles, if it came down to it. Before she began to push, however, Valentine paused and glanced back. Two down from Byerely, another gone to smithereens because of Jamison, and Stella's shot had at least wounded the last. It didn't suit her to let any of them survive, but her mind went to the potential resources the raiders might be carrying.

She scanned the terrain beyond this portion of the minefield. Up the old highway and beyond it she could make out a low cluster of rocks. Cover, if need be. Mostly, it was a landmark. "I'm going to head for those rocks for now. I think someone should go back and end that raider, maybe loot what you can carry. The ammunition, at the least." Falls Creek would be in need of it, if they survived the early stages of the siege somehow. "If all three of you head over there, at least tell EVA to stay with me!" she added.

Once the other three had decided which of them would go, Valentine began to push the barrow back towards the road and the landmark. With any luck, they would be done and headed back to town in just a few minutes once Stella's target was taken care of and whatever supplies the raiders had were pillaged.

Daniel saw the grave look that Lucien had given him. Daniel didn’t really mean to offend the other. He was usually very cautious about what he said to other people. If he was insulting or condescending it was intentional, but this morning he was tired and worn out. He just wasn’t all there at the moment, which was an odd feeling for him. However he wasn’t distressed that he offended Lucien. Daniel wasn’t going to bend over backward to make sure that he didn’t step on any toes. Perhaps it would be different if he knew Lucien better, but at the moment Daniel couldn’t see anything that he liked about the other. Lucien was just a bit too serious for Daniel’s tastes. Surely this was a time to be serious, but that didn’t mean you had to be boring. Daniel made an effort to smile at the other male, but tried to make it look as condescending as possible.

He shuffled into the bar after Lucien and took a seat at the table. He only was half listening to what Shawn was saying. It was too early in the morning to discuss raiders. Morning was the time for light conversation. The reason Daniel headed over to the Fission Hole was to take his mind off this business for a little while. Daniel took no shame in admitting that he ran away from his problems. He liked to ignore unpleasant things. However, Shawn and Lucien were the only people around and Daniel was even less of a fan of being alone.

Daniel was nodding along with Lucien and Shawn’s conversation when a young woman came into the bar. He couldn’t recall her name but he had seen her a couple of times. She was petite and cute. Daniel had never been struck by cute girls. She sauntered over to the table and started talking to Lucien. Daniel could hear the flirtation hanging in every word he said and for some reason it didn’t sit well with him. Daniel was flirty and he liked people who weren’t. He liked working at it a little bit. People who were flirty and social made conversing too easy. The game isn’t fun if it wasn’t a challenge.

”Sure, have a seat," Daniel said coarsely as he pulled out a seat next to him. He pulled the chair out roughly and carelessly. The chair shook a little before it settled into place.

He did not look at Ally. Instead he turned his attention to Shawn and Lucien. ”I really doubt that guy we have is going to talk to any of us,” he said as he fished a box of cigarettes out of his pocket. ”It’s not that I think that raiders are incredibly loyal or anything,” he gently knocked a cigarette from the box, ”but I’m pretty sure that he won't be all that pleased that one of us shot him. People tend to hold onto that kind of thing.” He brought the cigarette up to his mouth and took a moment before lighting it. ”It’s also pretty obvious that we aren’t going to let him go back to his friends or anything, so why say anything at all?” He flicked the lighter a few times before finally succeeding. He took a puff before continuing. ”He might talk if we gave him something that he wanted. The question is what does a guy like that want? Well, besides murdering us.” Daniel feigned thinking the question over for a second. ”Those guys were strung out on chems, right? I heard withdraw hits you like a b***h,” he looked over at Ally ”if you will excuse my language.” He turned his attention back to the rest of the table before continuing ”I say that you let him sit it out a couple of more hours and offer up some of the good stuff. We need to get some of the chems out of town anyway, so why not let the guy have a bit in exchange for some info?” He finished by taking another drag off his cigarette. Then he looked at Lucien. “ But what would I know? I’m not a big strapping hero,” he gave the other another condescending grin.

Systems reported minor damage and a slow oil leak that wouldn’t cripple him, but could definitely gum things up the next time the winds stirred up dust storms.
The joint of his left ankle was already attempting to lock up; his tactile web reporting errors as if the foot wasn’t even there anymore. He knew it was there…he was looking right at it, walking on it even and yet his system was convinced it didn’t exist.
Still, something urged him to take the task of finishing the raider off and taking their items.
“I’ll go.” He murmured, limping slightly as the left foot refused to work properly, leaking oil into his boot that squelched faintly with a too-forceful step.
The system corrected itself and the foot complied—to the others it might have looked like a stumble but it had been entirely intentional.

The raider wasn’t dead by the time he made his way through the remaining mines to where the man lay bleeding and gurgling.
Byerley stood over him for a few moments, watching the eyes roll wildly in panic—or were they death throes? He wasn’t too sure, but he ended whatever it was with a well-placed blow from the rifle stock before collecting the weapons and personal items the man had been carrying. He then turned his attention toward the others, scattered as they were, and eventually the large pack itself.
He silently waved to the others, indicating he wanted them to join him.
The mines could be put into the wheel barrow with the others and used in fortifying the town’s initial defenses.

xxxDespite Daniel's rather aggressive method of pulling out the chair for her, he did it none the less, and Ally acknowledged the gentlemanly quality that the other two men had missed.

                                            xxx"Why thank you, sir,"

xxxshe offered briefly without attempt to interrupt whatever discussion they were having. Allison placed both of her hands behind her back, palms against her bottom. As she slid her hands down to flatten out the skirt of her dress against her figure she sat down in the chair Daniel had provided to her. Fingers then curled around the bottom of the chair and she pulled it inward before placing her hands at the table and crossing her ankles. The blonde had noted that Daniel gave her a very brief look of confusion when he turned his gaze to her, and assumed he was a bit unsure of her identity just as she had been with him a moment ago. She would have taken a moment to re-introduce herself, but considering they immediately returned to their conversation at hand, she chose not to. Shawn stepped away, and when he returned he at least addressed her as Miss Steele and so she concluded that was enough for the gentleman for now.

xxxLooking over the food that had been placed before them, the barkeep had mentioned that the food was free for the lot of them, and Ally mentally cursed. Two free meals in such a short time, she wasn't hungry enough to take in another, but she didn't want the offer to go to waste. Bright eyes then turned to Shawn and the blonde gave a sweet smile.

xxx"Thank you, but I'm afraid I'm not too hungry at the moment. I'd love to take you up on that offer another time."

xxxIt might have been a one time only thing and if you snooze you loose, but that didn't stop her from trying to make the invitation open to being enjoyed at a later date; perhaps when she was completely out of caps and in need of food. The way she worded it might have been misunderstood as if she were asking him for a date but she didn't think much of it. All she hoped was that he'd be willing to give her a hot meal later at no charge. Pointing out her index finger, she ran the tip across the rim of the cool glass of water before her out of habit before taking it up into hand, Ally listened to their discussion as it continued. It appeared Lucien was being filled in on all he missed, and the three were discussing what to do with the prisoner they'd recently captured. When Daniel cursed, than looked to her to excuse himself she hummed a brief laugh.

                                            xxx"I've heard worse."

xxxShe reassured him before also looking back to Lucien and Shawn. She pursed her lips and held back a smile toward Daniel at his condescending comment. He might not have meant it as a joke but she took it as one. She had referred to them all in a similar manner moments before. Although talk of what to do with a prisoner was all too interesting, Ally did have some of her own business she needed to tend to with Shawn. Finding out if there was any work she could do to earn a few caps so she could continue to have a roof over her head. Although she didn't have much to offer toward the situation, she simply chose to sit quietly and listen. Allison was in no position of authority to make decisions or suggestions about how to handle town business, so she did herself a favor and stayed out of it unless invited. Whenever the discussion was over, she figured, would be a good time to talk to Shawn about work. Till then, it was kind of fun to hear them brainstorming their ideas on how to basically torture their prisoner for information.

Jamison slowly picked himself up and dusted himself off, coughing from the rising sand that was slightly obscuring his vision. He slipped his goggles over his eyes and peered through the dust clouds towards the bodies of the Raiders, then whistled sharply to EVA. "EVA! Do me a favor. Run protocol-"

"Already initiating," EVA replied, floating towards the bodies of the Raiders. One by one, she zapped them for good measure with her laser, reducing them to piles of slightly radioactive ash. Jamison nodded smugly to himself. When he had been learning what he knew in Point Lookout, one of his earliest lessons had been that if you're going to kill something, make sure that it's dead. He still had a faint scar on his leg from when he had assumed that a swamplurk was dead and it had gotten back up and clawed him. Took him two weeks to recover from the deep gash in his leg. Either way, he was content to let EVA roast them. It was possible, however unlikely, to survive even a bullet to the brain. Being reduced to a pile of ash kind of ensured that a person wouldn't be walking away.

"Well, if that's that," Jamison said, "I'm going to head back and get changed. If you'd like to accompany me?" He nodded to his companions and led the way back to the town, EVA floating over his shoulder. He made his way to the bar and walked up to his room, sighing as he shrugged off the heavy trader's outfit he had been wearing. He then pulled on a pair of slightly dirty blue jeans that were nevertheless in good shape, and then a short-sleeved, grey button-down shirt from the Pre-War period. This he left open and untucked over his white T-shirt, giving him a casual, even relaxed appearance. It was the same outfit that he had worn while working on the computers back home, so the outfit had a slightly sentimental value to him, and he always felt more at ease working in it.

As a final note, he stored his laser pistol in the desk drawer by his mattress and reached underneath of it, withdrawing a slightly battered double-barrel shotgun, his preferred weapon of choice. While the laser pistol was useful for longer distances, the fight had shown him that if he was going to fight, he would need stopping power, and he favored his shotgun for that task, even if it lacked the range of the pistol. If he was going to fight at long distances, he was dead anyways. It had always been his way to avoid fighting if possible, and he doubted that he would need it in the town anyways. But better to have it and not need it. He slung the weapon over his shoulder and stepped back downstairs, leaning against the bar. He nodded to Shawn and asked bluntly, "I don't suppose that you have a computer in this town? I'd like to fiddle with it a bit while I have the time, start writing some programs that might be useful in certain situations."

            Second Day Summary!

            The Mine Squad [Valentine's POV]

[Important Read For: ExcessivelyTimewise, Misthral, WildCards]

The tribal made sure the barrow was resting in a secure manner before she motioned to Stella to keep an eye on it. Valentine flitted back across the field, flashing a smile at Jamsion as she caught up with him. Prior to the youth disintegrating the raider's corpses [what an interesting discovery that would be, for their comrades!], she knelt and helped Byerley pillage anything useful.

There turned out to be a half-dozen more mines in the burlap sack, and a minor haul in basic, if ill-kept pistols, rifles and combat knives. More importantly, in her eyes, was the small collection of ammunition the pair added to the 'keep' pile--Falls Creek would need every bullet it could find once the raiders laid into the town. The narcotics the raiders had on their person she didn't opt to take, but she did pocket the cigarettes. It would be unpleasant if the local smokers were bereft of a fix, and cigs were commonly more accepted than other substances, like Jet.

Arms laden, she accompanied Byerely and Jamison back to the barrow. Their return trip to town was accomplished quickly and quietly, without a disturbance. Valentine parked the barrow with the Western Barricades and suggested the group head to the bar, to sort out just where they should lay down their newly-acquired explosives.

            The Fission Hole [Shawn's POV]
[Important Read For: Alex_The _Lionheart, Babalu X, Ethereal F R O S T, GeeGeeGoJayBee, Hymn Damakos, Misthral, WildCards]

Shawn finished most of his meal despite the occasional interruption when someone asked him a question, or when he had to rise to fetch a patron a drink or place their order for food with Angus. The bartender snickered to himself as he observed Daniel's response to Ally and Lucien, but chose to keep out of it. As long as nobody took a swing at anybody else, he saw no reason to intervene.

When it came to Daniel's suggestion to interrogate their captive, Shawn agreed after a bit of thought. He didn't use chems himself--nothing harder than alcohol or cigarettes, at least. But the junkie would need a fix, and if it got them some info, why not? Before Shawn left the Fission Hole in the company of Lucien and Daniel to go tend to that specific little problem, he paused to answer Jamison's query about a computer and make sure everyone else was settled.

"I have a terminal upstairs, but I'm afraid I can't let you borrow it. There might be a functional one at the new Sheriff's Office we can check for, and I know, for sure, that our local mechanic would have an operational one. You'd have to ask him, though." He offered Jamison a smiled and made for the door once he'd served up Stella a vodka and gotten a short report out of her of events at the minefield. "Take a booth, and map out where you want the mines. I'll come take a look at it later, but I'm sure you'll figure out what to do and it'll be fine. Don't drink too much, Fish, explosives and vodka don't play well."

When the three men reached the Sheriff's Office, they could hear the junkie in his closet hollering incoherently. The interrogation, as it were, took all of forty-five minutes to complete: the raider's wits were fried, but the offer of some narcotics made him focus and spill his guts.

Doped up on Med-X to combat the pain of his ruined knee, he explained that his group--the Mad Men--were just supposed to 'keep the town busy' until Hackett's main force arrived. They traveled light and quick, and there were five, or was it six, individual gangs united under Hackett. Some of them were cannibals, while others had tribal origins and commanded a large array of wild-life in battle. There was at least one troupe of slavers, who acted as a clean-up crew once the others were done with a town, enslaving the survivors, and Hackett's own raiders, who were more advanced and, reportedly, filled out their ranks with robots and mobile turrets.

In general, the Mad Men led most of the attacks, backed up by Hackett's gunners and the animal trainers. The cannibals were stealthy, skilled as hunters and trackers, and normally struck after dark or prowled the Wasteland to waylay travelers. So far, they raider 'army' had steamrolled over most of their targets a day or two after they arrived.

When the interrogation was over, the man was put back in his 'cell,' and Shawn returned to the bar with Daniel and Lucien to mull over the new information and start to put a plan together.

            Preparation [General Post]
[Important Read For: Everyone, but mentioned characters belong to Ethereal F R O S T, ExcessivelyTimewise, GeeGeeGoJayBee, Hymn Damakos, Misthral]

A basic plan for the afternoon and evening was put together by Lucien and Shawn at the bar with input from other patrons present at the time, and with assistance from inviduals like Daniel, Byerely and Stella, the instructions were made public.

Shortly after one PM, word began to spread about town that the raiders were well and truly on their way. Missus Greene sought out Ally not too long after, and more or less demanded the girls assistance in return for a free night's stay at the Hotel. With the girl at her side, the old woman hit up the sparsely populated Falls Creek Market, where some of the locals had gathered to discuss what was going on and divide up the work.

Missus Greene volunteered herself and Ally to the pumping station, where the pair would lend their hands to bottling purified water and carting it across town to a secure, concrete bungalow commonly used as a sort of warehouse. In the event that the pumping station was rendered inoperable, the townsfolk would have a reserve of water. The Creek that ran through town was far from anyone's first choice, its waters being irradiated, dirty and easily contaminated.

Dean was called upon by Angus, who brought the mechanic an entire pots worth of coffee and instructions from the bar. With his general know-how, Dean was asked to rise to the occasion as a carpentry supervisor, directing several of the Croaking Canary's former miners as they constructed barricades and reinforced other weak spots in Falls Creek's defenses. Additionally, ideally-located rooftops were made into watchtowers and sniper's nests. The construction went on long into the night, but hopefully the rush job would hold against the coming threat. Among those to assist with this task was Byerley and Valentine, once the mines had been mapped out, placed and activated.

In the late afternoon, a rota went up, pinned to the door of the Fission Hole, where mercenaries Shawn had hired and townsfolk capable of combat were scheduled for patrols and watches. Lastly, but not least, a public gathering was set for the following morning, at seven AM, hopefully early enough to avoid the first raider attacks. The priority of the gathering was to decide a sheriff, but also to discuss any other issues the people of Falls Creek might have before there was no time left to discuss anything.

            Timeskip!
It's now 6:45AM -- meeting in 15 @ the Falls Creek Market Square

The new day brought clear skies, but the same Autumn chill had laid down a minor frost over the town. Unlike the previous morning, the residents of Falls Creek were up and out of doors, some people making their way straight to the meeting place at the market while others went to relieve friends or family of their watches. While it was common for the townsfolk to go about armed in some way, it was unusual to see so many people clad in leather armour with rifles, shotguns, pistols, clubs, machetes, knives and even spears openly carried. The miners wore their hardhats, with bundles of TNT in bags slung over their backs, and a couple of them carried their picks as make-shift melee weapons.
