Night. A time of quiet solitude and thought, darkness and the stars... At least that's how it use to be. In the city, the ringing of car horns and the shouts of people could be heard at all times. There was no more solitude, like there had been so long ago... People didn't go inside when the sun went down and the moon rose, now they would come out and make a scene. This was how it was now, in these days.... Making the jobs that much harder.
Phantom walked the rooftops of the city, jumping from building to building with ease. It was a much more dangerous task nowadays, Phantom surmised, since if he fell (or rather, someone in their organization with less experience fell), he would surely die upon impact of the ground. Fortunately Raven wouldn't allow Phantom do fall to his doom, and even if Raven wasn't around, Phantom still had his own magic that he had mastered through years and years of practice...
Phantom stopped in the middle of a particular building... The power was out in this place now for the next couple blocks... Phantom smiled, this meant he was both closer to his target and at home; in a shroud of darkness that nearly never engulfed this city. Phantom closed his eyes a moment to reminisce about the past...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... A dark figure sat on the shallow rooftops of the low, unlit city. No lights shone, only those of the stars... A single candle moved through the night, probably just a lonely innkeeper walking from the inn to the outhouse and back. Phantom was this man on the rooftop, looking out at the sea and all the massive wooden ships that strewn New York's fine bay. At this time Phantom had just been recruited into the Night Guard, and so his missions were lazy and easy, although his magic was strong. Phantom was immediately put into the hidden watchers as an assassin when he received his familiar known as crow.
Crow sat on Phantom's shoulder, looking out as well... Being an assassin meant that he would have less contracts to fill on a regular basis, so he was a mere watchman until unknown threats arrived in the night...
A man appeared behind phantom; an older Asian man with a long, white beard, no hair on his head and a large wooden cane. The man's eyes were squinted, and he approached Phantom close, looking out at the sea.
"I know you have only been in the Night Guard for two days, Mr. LaBlanke, and your duties aren't very heavy yet. But you must realize that one day, you will be of great importance to this organization. Do not disappoint us."
The man had a serious look upon his face. Phantom turned to face him, standing straight he smiled and nodded.
"I will do my best, Sir. Patriarch Ginre."
The older man nodded, before disappearing quickly. Phantom turned again, facing the sea, before disappearing, himself, into the night...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

These thoughts only lasted an instant. This was nearly four hundred years ago... Back then Phantom was just an assassin, but look at him now... The Patriarch of the Night Guard. Phantom didn't have to take missions, as a matter of fact, all he had to do was give missions out to the heads of each station and inspect the new recruits for hidden power... But that was boring. Phantom missed the old days when he didn't have to think and give out orders... But he was best suited for the job now, after all.
Phantom jumped to the next roof top, towards the cause of the disturbance. A large beast stood on the rooftop, invisible to the eyes of normal people. It had a thin, pointed head with large red eyes, a thin long torso, large black claws on both its hands and feet, and it just stood there... Absorbing energy from a nearby generator... It hadn't gone for people as of yet thankfully... Phantom breathed a sigh of relief before raising a hand. He pulled a single card out of the air and tossed it at the beast. It approached slowly at first, but before it hit the monster, it changed into many chains that curled around it's bulky figure. The chains squeezed tight before letting out a burst of energy. The beast screeched before disintegrating into shards of light that floated towards the sky before disappearing completely. The chains disappeared soon after.
Phantom sighed... He thought the beast would have been more of a challenge... But oh well. What a waste. Raven floated above Phantom, just in view as she passed in front of the moon. Raven floated down, landing on Phantom's shoulder lightly, before cocking her head.

"Not much of a challenge I see, Phantom. I can sense your disappointment."

Phantom turned his head, clicking his cane on the rooftop gently.

"It happens. We haven't seen a major threat in almost fifty years, and that one was taken care of by our previous head of the Hidden Watchers and the head of the Peace Keepers, along with their men... It's only natural to feel a little disappointed."

Phantom gave a smile, and Raven nodded to him... Raven tucked her head under her wing and allowed Phantom to carry her on his shoulder. Phantom smiled, before heading back in the direction of the Night Guard's hideaway....

                                            ~Only the path of blood is the road to victory!~

                                            A very large creature stood in a cluster of trees. The moon shone down upon his horns, casting a soft glow upon them as it made hit and miss glints of his armor and the bare blade of his massive battle axe and shield. His sword was strapped to his side as his bovine ears strained to hear any sounds Central Park had to offer.

                                            It was quiet save for the swishing of his tail and his heavy breathing, puffs of steam coming from his nostrils. The Minotaur was in the human world now, not the Void. Things were more dangerous here and he didn't know his enemy well enough as he did years ago.

                                            Things in this world had changed. Large metal buildings lined the Park and metal birds zoomed above him, shining lights that threatened to reveal his hiding place. The human race was more cruel and violent than one would imagine, even to a race such as his.

                                            He was Asteron Goeban Terios, a strong general in the Minotaur army he had commanded. It was Man who had forced him into the Void, along with waging war upon his race thousands of times. The Minotaur had then began to grow angry with the humans and it was then he had planned a raid on a human village. Unfortunatly, there was a human mage there who had stopped the raid by forcing Asteron and his army into the Void.

                                            The Minotaur's eyes then blazed with hatred while his hooved hand clenched tighter around the handles of the shield he held. He wanted revenge against the humans for what they had done to him. Make them suffer the way he did in the Void and send them there if was even possible for him to even attempt such a thing.

Geli Rivka Eichel
German Scribe with a supreme knowledge of Monsters

Change in an organization so old such as The Night Guard was a slow, sometimes nonexistent thing. People often grumbled and griped about changes but they still had to happen. The implementing of thumbprint, DNA, and retina scanners had only happened within the last fifteen years or so and quite a bit of an uproar went around the headquarters. Still, like most things that fell under the fingers of change, it was forgotten after a time and everything was right with the world. The Night Guard was no exception and after a time everyone was able to get over everything. It also didn't hurt that there had been a sudden flood in tears connecting the two worlds together that had gotten everyone occupied. The process had been slow, oh so slow, and at the same time the labs of The Scribes were ushering into the modern age as well. The Forensics and Weapons labs upgraded everything they possibly could, making them both the most technologically advanced areas in the headquarters and actually making them some of the most advanced areas technology wise in the country. The rest of the area soon followed but one place was left untouched.

Geli Eichel sighed as her fingers balled into the fist of her right hand, thumb extended upwards and pressing into a thumbprint scanner. Even within the actual headquarters themselves the damn things riddled the places. It was for safeties sake really and only the Scribe areas really had them. The labs housed some dangerous material, sometimes hazardous to health as well. Only members of the Scribe teams were allowed in those areas and the eggheads were rather glad for that as well. Geli herself wasn't part of the labs teams, oh no. Her primary location was on Level One, housed among the thousands upon thousands of books of the library. The air was always thick and heavy with mildew and old paper smell, it was heaven to the young scribe. Though today she looked troubled and the white dragon about the size of an Australian Shepard standing at her side could tell. "Oh lighten up Geli....you knew this day would come.'' the dragon mused with a smile. The woman rolled her eyes as a little beep emitted from the scanner and a steel door slid open.

The entrance she came through was private, meant for staff and Scribes only and was separate from the actual main entrance. In the back of the vast library were older books, books so old that they might fall apart if not taken care of properly so they were on restricted usage to see. "I know...I hoped it might not happen in our lifetime though.'' she grumbled, voice heavy with an East German accent. There had been a reason why the library had not undergone the futuristic changes like the rest of the facility. There were thousands of books in this room, hundreds of thousands, each on different topics relating to mythical creature lore. Quite a few weren't even in English and most of them only had a few copies. Such a high volume of material was a bit intimidating to say the least and The Scribes had been reluctant to want to upgrade things to the twenty first century. It had taken months but finally the head of the Scribes had managed to convince the Creature Lore department that it was time for an upgrade. The day she had been dreading was upon her and it was with a heavy groan that she exited the back room and stepped into the library.

It was utter chaos and thankfully they had had enough sense to close the library down while they did this whole thing. Books were strewn about the room, some in stacks, most in piles. Other Creature Lore Specialist ran around, arms loaded down with papers and books, their familiars usually loaded down just as heavily. Some were stationed at computer terminals in the center of the room and were rapidly typing words into the computer or scanning whole pages of books into the machines. "What are your orders, lieben?" the dragon asked curiously as it watched other creatures and humans wander frantically about. The German Scribe began walking towards the terminals, weaving her way between precariously perched book stacks and panicked eggheads until she reached a computer occupied by a balding man. Gently she tapped on his shoulder and delivered a smile. "Are you taking over?" he asked and she sighed softly but nodded. "Oh thank the maker...'' he mumbled and quickly left, a toddler sized owl fluttering after him.

Geli's shift lasted several hours in which time she scanned books into the computer or typed their contents down word for word. Many paper cuts littered her hands and as it was her time to hand over her duties to another, she walked from the disaster area that was the library, looking at her hands and sighing. "The smallest of injuries often hurt worse then the largest.'' her companion said with a smirk, causing her to glance down at him with an eyebrow raised. "Says the dragon who barely lifted a claw during the entire thing.'' she countered and the dragon chuckled. "Well you seemed to have it all controlled and really, I didn't want to harsh on your mellow...That is what the human children are saying these day's yes?" he asked curiously. "Um...no and in fact I don't think they have been saying that for thirty years.... What no hip lingo in The Void?" she smirked as they walked towards an elevator. Thankfully the doors were motion activated and swung open as they stepped up. Once inside the dragon stood on it's hind legs and pressed his cold nose against a button marked with a large '3'. "To the cafeteria then?" the dragon asked, his partner merely responding with a nod as she looked at her 'maimed' hands.

Eventually Phantom arrived at a line of smaller houses and projects. Dogs could be heard barking their heads off in the distance and no cars passed by... How this place went down hill. No one would expect anything than a meth lab in a shack behind a rundown neighborhood. It use to be a barren field of wheat on a small hill with a shack near the middle... It was nicer back then, but oh well.
Phantom hopped off the rooftop, landing lightly in front of the alleyway... He disliked the place, as he always felt like he would be mugged or killed walking back home... But of course that wouldn't happen, he was masterfully trained.
Phantom stepped through the alley and came upon a barren lot of weeds and trash with a single shack in the back left corner. Phantom avoided the trash and dirt like the plague, making sure he got none of it on his clothes or pants...

"Why we don't clean this place up is beyond me, but of course, it is in our best interest to stay hidden..."

Phantom sighed, entering the dusty old shack. He pulled on the old trowel, causing the scanners to activate. Another scanner appeared in front of him to check his thumb print as well which accepted him immediately. The wall gave way to an elevator, which Phantom entered. He pressed the only button on this particular elevator; down.

User Image

The elevator opened to a pathway surrounded by fountains, decoration that had been in this sanctuary since the beginning. To the far left and far right, giant statues knelt on the ground, the backs chained to the sealing of the room that was several stories above ones head. Phantom stepped into the room and was immediately approached by a few new recruits. They asked a few questions, their excitement clearly bubbling over the edges of their glasses before being called away by their current superiors. Raven shook her head on Phantom's shoulder before hopping off and flying up towards the sealing. She took a small corridor near the sealing (one meant specifically for her), taking the path towards Phantom's bedroom.
Raven was the type of familiar that didn't like loud noises, and being the familiar of the Patriarch of the Night Watchers, as long as they weren't in their room, they would be bombarded by loud noises.
Phantom looked around before heading in the direction of the mess. There were 4 different halls to get food; The first was for the newer recruits, and wasn't separated in any way. The second was for the lesser members of the three squads and was separated in three sections, one for the Peace Keepers, One for the Hidden Watchers, and the third for the scribes. The third was for senior members of the squads; the people who held a position special to them, as they weren't just the normal members of their specific squad. This was also separated into three sections for their specific squad. And the final hall was for the heads of the squads and the Patriarch himself, Phantom. Phantom had a right to his own personal chef, but he didn't feel it was fair to the other heads of the squads or the members...
Phantom stepped down the large set of staircases and turned left into third mess hall. He didn't want to go over to where the heads of the squads ate this time... Besides, only once in a blue moon did Phantom run into any of the actual captains at the captain's mess hall. So Phantom decided to go and eat in the hall for the upper members of the squads, and more specifically, at the table where the Scribes ate. Phantom was once the assassin of the Hidden Watchers, then for the longest time he was the Head Captain of the Hidden Watchers, before he became the Captain Patriarch of the entire organization... One would think Phantom would want to go and eat with what use to be his squad, but no... No one was eating there at the moment, so he decided to eat with the scribes.
Phantom approached the small window that gave out food, getting eyed by many of the senior members of the squads. Not many of them knew who he was, even though he was the eldest member of the entire organization... It was because most people didn't know who Phantom was in the first place, only the captains really knew what Phantom looked like personally, them and a few of the eldest members who were no longer in the squads due to age. Phantom looked too young to be the Patriarch of the organization... In truth, Phantom had eternal youth, and had been lucky thus far not to have died in battle... Though of course, Phantom was very careful in battle...
The chef at the window gave Phantom his plate of food, eying him suspiciously. There were no new members of the senior squad members, so the chef had a right to be suspicious. Phantom sat at the Scribe's table, sitting off to one side. Many of them eyed him and pointed, whispering amongst themselves. Who was this guy? Where is his familiar? In truth, if Phantom did have his familiar with him, he would be easily spotted as the Captain Patriarch, as his familiar was well known in the squads, and very recognizable... A large black raven? It was hardly inconspicuous.

                                            ~Only the path of blood is the road to victory!~

                                            Asteron continued to stand in his location. His dark eyes then started to scan the area until a few voices reached his ears. They sounded harsh and violent. Turning his large head to the direction of the voices, flashes of light caught his eye as well as loud sounds that came from the same source.

                                            His expressions changed from docile to hatred. What he saw were two feuding gangs....of humans! His hooved hands reached towards the hilt of his large battle axe as he noticed some of them retreating into the trees to his location.

                                            Just then, the smell of blood wafted into his nose. This made him growl deep in his throat as well as baring his teeth. He couldn't stay in his spot any longer. With a loud roar, Asteron crashed through the trees, and unhitched his battle axe from his back and charged towards the gang members.

                                            "Wh-what the hell?!" they seemed to shout as the giant beast charged straight towards them. With a mighty swing, Asteron took out several trees and some unfortunate humans who weren't quick enough to evade the attack.

                                            "Let's get out of here!" they shouted. The Minotaur then roared a roar that indicated that they should never show their faces around here ever again. It was then, sirens could be heard nearby. Not knowing what the sound was, curiosity got the best of him and he went to investigate.

                                            As he shouldered his battle axe, Asteron went to where the sounds emitted from. But then there were flashing blue and red lights that made him shield his eyes, as well as making him agitated even more. Humans tumbled out of the odd contraptions they arrived in.

                                            "You there! Put your hands up where we could see them!" they commanded as they held the same objects the gang members held. But of course, the Minotaur didn't understand. Rage and hatred started to get the best of him. Tightening his grip on the battle axe, the Minotaur then uttered a roar and charged through the fray.

                                            The humans then open fired upon him, but the bullets ricocheted off of his thick battle armor. "After him!" the humans shouted as they returned to their contraptions, the sirens ringing through Central Park once more as they attempted to chase the large Minotaur down.

ROBERTO & JEAN-MARC
A little advice for aspiring fires, you get put out if you don't get a little wild!

This war is warm and vibrant,
Our love has turned to silence.
You've got two months to tell him something.

A large hand ruffled through a mess of mostly blond hair, while the other hand scratched at the small pot forming on his stomach. He wore a pair of black almost-skinny jeans and a white sleeveless shirt that read "Go Slow, Bro" and had an image of a slowbro looking as derpy as usual. His feet were bare and leaning on the outstretched base of his lazyboy, and he was reclined, perfectly content. His brows furrowed in concentration as he watched the glowing television in front of him, and he blindly reached out to grab the bottle of beer on the table next to him. He took a swig and grimaced as he swallowed, smacking his lips. American beer was crap. He missed Molson beer, Alexander Kieths... At least it didn't taste like carbonated water like the crap he was drinking now. Bud Light. ******** Bud Light. He placed the half-full bottle on his belly, and it balanced there, barely even rocking to the side. Usually, one would be worried about their weight gain, but the man known as Roberto Augustus Rodriguez frankly didn't give a ********. He could still fight, and his gut was as solid as any six-pack he ever had! Not to mention getting the body he had ten years ago would be a pain in the a** -and not the good kind-. And it wasn't like he was incredibly large, or sweaty. He carried himself with the carriage of power. He looked so comfortable in his own skin that most people didn't even notice his pot. And the fact that he was nearly six-foot six also added to the reduced look of his recently gained weight. His eyes wandered from the television as it skipped to commercials, and he took in the sights of his apartment. He'd been here for more than a decade, and he still didn't have a better apartment than this. It was partly because the landlord was afraid of him, and partly because of its location.

The fact that Jean-Marc hated it only sweetened the deal, really.

And what wasn't to like about this place? It was small, cramped, the hardwood floor occasionally smelled like Chinese food in certain spots at certain times, and the kitchen had a whole three square feet of leg room! The shower also sometimes didn't work and the lights liked to flicker like some horror movie no matter how many times Roberto replaced them, but it was home, he supposed. He turned his attention back to the TV once it went back to its scheduled programming. It was Judge Judy. Some guy was trying to regain custody of his dog from his ex-wife or girlfriend or whatever. He didn't know why someone would go such lengths for a dog of all things; but the again he'd never had a dog or any pet at all. Discounting Jean-Marc, who was really his familiar but acted more like a cat than a Djinn most days. Speaking of which, was that him in the loveseat underneath all of those covers? How many were there, five? He rolled his eyes and finished off his beer, then flicked his eyes back to the lump of blankets. He set down his finished drink, cracked his knuckles, then threw himself at the blankets.

"Estie de tabernak*!" Came the muffled curses from the blankets, and a pink head burst from them. "What the [********], Rob!?" The man growled, writhing in the covers as he struggled to get out of them. He got up to his shoulders, freeing his arms, and immediately turned on his partner, lashing his hands out in the vague direction of his throat. Roberto easily caught them and he leaned forward, inches away from the other's face.
Too close. Hot.
His hands around his wrist sent down waves of heated pleasure, and Jean-Marc grit his teeth and looked into the bigger man's brown eyes to keep himself from groaning.
"Just wakin' you up, is all," He drawled, absently running his thumbs on his wrist. His voice was rough and raspy, like he had one too many cigarettes and beers in his lifetime, which was probably true. It also obviously didn't arouse Jean-Marc in the slightest.
Nope. Never.
Oh, he was talking. He was too preoccupied with the man towering over him to actually listen to what he had to say for a few moments, and his brain backpedaled to understand his partner.
"... Really, Jean, do we have to have the thermostat so high and have you hog all of the covers?" He had said, sending a lazy smirk in his direction and beginning to lounge on the man below him, unclasping his wrists and moving his own hands underneath his chin on the other's chest. "Sometimes I think it's a plan to see me take my shirt off." He said jokingly, picking at his teeth with a pinky and wiping it on the other's shirt.
His teeth were going to break from all of that gritting he was doing. "Preposterous!" He shot back, trying to dislodge the man on top of him. "You wiped your teeth gunk on my shirt, you stupid ******** human!" Jean-Marc added, slamming his palm in Roberto's forehead, who didn't even seem to notice it. "I like being warm. That's the only reason." He added quietly, trying to figure out where to put his arms with a mostly-blond man on top of him.
"Warm is like coffee that's been left out for a while. This apartment is like ******** Arrakis, man." Roberto continued, looking incredibly amused. He got up and stretched, shirt riding up. He let out a noise more akin to a feral animal than a human.
Jean-Marc struggled to look anywhere but the now-exposed skin and trail of body hair leading down under his pants, and he swallowed. Roberto took his glance as him not understanding the reference.
"It's from Dune. Wicked-good book." He explained vaguely, fixing his shirt.
"Oh. I see." He found great interest in his hands as he sat up and fumbled with them clumsily as Roberto obliviously blundered around, turning down the thermostat and making his way to the kitchen.
"You want a grilled cheese? I want a grilled cheese." Roberto asked, pulling out a pan, sliced bread and a half-used stick of butter from two separate cabinets before he pulled out the processed cheese from the fridge.
"Yes," Jean-Marc answered over his shoulder, rolling up the sleeves of his sweater and unbuttoning it. He wore a simple white v-neck underneath the red sweater, and a pair of gray very-skinny jeans clung to his legs. "And a beer, please." He added, sitting properly. He reached for the remote -he never understood why anyone would televise court proceedings, especially those this dull-, and flicked through the channels.

As Roberto settled down, Jean-Marc chose to keep it on some National Geographic documentary about the rainforest. The pink-haired man took the offered grilled cheese and already opened bottle of beer, and started eating. Roberto had two of his own grilled cheeses, and he set one down on his pot while he ate the other one. Every once in a while he would ask for Jean's beer. He had mentioned no backwashing, and of course Roberto had to go ahead and leave all of the crumbs inside his already crappy beer.
"Thank you," Jean-Marc grumbled sarcastically, looking down at the bottle, "Thank you for your spit and crumbs."
"Aw, don't be like that," He said in between mouthfuls of bread and melted cheese, "Look, a hyena's being chased away from food by a pack... Wait, no pride, that's the word... Pride of lions. Cheer up!"
"Hmph." Was all he said, finishing off his grilled cheese. Roberto picked up the nearly empty bottle of beer and swigged down its dregs with a sigh, then devoured the rest of his grilled cheeses. "You know, we should probably get to base. They don't like that we don't have a place down there in the first place, not being there at all is another thing." Jean-Marc said. He was about to say something else until he frowned. "You have crumbs all over you. Can't believe I'm stuck with some sort of child who can't even eat properly!" He exclaimed, trying to wipe off the mess of grilled cheese remains from the other man, who chuckled and grinned.
"Says the one who has crumbs in his goatee," He said pleasantly.
"You have some there too, you stupid little--" Jean paused when Roberto grabbed his chin, and his brows furrowed. He tried not to arch into the welcoming heat of his calloused hand. "What are you doin--" He stopped again when Roberto rubbed off the crumbs with his thumb and grinned at him happily. Jean-Marc finally found out how his body worked and jerked his head away as the other man rubbed most of the crumbs off of him. He was about to say something, but the sound of sirens distracted him and he looked out of the apartment's tiny window.
"Cops!" He said, following the trail of cop cars. Those were a lot. "Think it's a beast, Jean?" He asked, turning back to the djinn.
"Yes, maybe," He answered, thankful for the change of pace. He might have been forced to chew off his arms out of boredom. Or embarrassment.
"Sweeet." Roberto sang, sprinting around. He shucked on a pair of heavy-looking combat boots over new woolly socks, then gathered up his gauntlets. Jean-Marc slipped on his own pair of daintier boots and stood up with a stretch and a yawn. "C'mon, c'mon, Jean! We gotta kick some a**! Or well, in my case, punch some a**. Heheheh."
"Ten years, and you always forget civility first, Roberto." He snapped, raising an eyebrow as the two of them left the apartment.
"Yeah, but that's more your job than mine." Roberto shrugged before he barreled down the stairs, familiar close on his heels.

When they found the cop cars, there was a rather large creature roaring and running around with a very large weapon. Roberto physically stopped the cars before they hurt themselves chasing after the creature.
"Cops. Check 'em. I'll deal with Mister Grade-A Beef." He said, jerking a thumb at the cops. Jean-Marc nodded, fixing his sweater.
"Alright. Be careful, human." He said, clapping hands with the other's gauntleted palm.
"Aren't I always?" He joked with a wily grin before the two of them turned in different directions.

Jean-Marc inspected their injuries and explained who they were.
"You should keep some distance from my partner and the minotaur," He suggested, sparing a glance at the two of them. "It may be dangerous, and you've seen what that thing can do. Those guns of yours are ineffectual. You aren't needed here to be our liabilities."
A majority of the cops nodded, and those who didn't were dragged away from those who had.

"Hey, Tauren!" He shouted, grinning. He was sprinting, and didn't look like he was getting tired any time soon. Wasn't this guy supposed to be in Thunder Bluff or something? "Why are you running from a fight? C'mon, show me that axe of yours!" He goaded, fixing his gauntlets and ducking his head to barrel through a mess of garbage cans, still keeping pace.

                                            ~Only the path of blood is the road to victory!~

                                            Asteron's ears picked up the sound of a voice. But this time it was not human. Stopping in his tracks, the beast lifted his large head to view the voice's carrier. The figure appeared human, but he didn't smell like one. His eyes blazed in anger as the figure asked why he was running from a fight.

                                            The Minotaur's grasp on the battle axe tightened as he took the figure's words as a challenge."Is that a challenge? I shall slice you in two if this is what you desire!" he stated in a low gruff tone as he lifted up the already blood stained battle axe into a defensive position.

                                            His ears no longer heard the sirens of the vehicles that followed him. Instead, it was quiet save for his heavy breathing. He then sized the humanesque figure up. If he had followed him here, he must have passed those humans very swiftly. But if so, why wasn't he heaving to catch his breath?

                                            Asteron would never attack another myth like himself, unless he was attacked or challenged by one. "Who and what are you?" he asked. "You look like a human, but you don't smell like one.

Nathaniel Zathrien Mandrake

A slight bump on a wooden desk startled the tussled mess of fiery red hair belonging to head peacekeeper Nathaniel Mandrake and among some ruffed duotangs and folders his face emerged groggy and lined. Nathaniel let out a long and loud yawn as he awoke stretching his arms out in either direction of his head, he didn't see anyone in front of his desk which meant that the being who had disturbed his sleep had to be his familiar Azariah undoubtedly having knocked his desk with a swish of his tail. Nathaniel blinked a few times groggily stirring to as he felt a familiar presence brush against the back of his chair the scales of Azariah's nearly stripping the wood as they brushed one another "Morning to you too" Nathaniel said turning round in his chair to face his large reptilian familiar giving the drake a small pat on the head as he stood up "Let's go see what's going on in the city tonight" Nathaniel said looking down at the large red lizard hearing his grunt of approval as they began to walk with Azariah in tow half a pace behind as always claws almost clacking against the floor. Nathaniel slid his hands down into the recesses of his pockets heading down the corridor and passing by a many student and agent within the halls; Nathaniel had no use nor no need for hiding within the headquarters for if someone didn't know the fiery crop of hair on top of his head then his familiar a large 500 pound red lizard growling at anybody within five feet surely attracted attention. Too much? he wasn't one to say but hell Azariah always helped get the job done, even if he probably wished to eat many of their co-workers. Nathaniel heard an almost startlingly low growl and stopped looking down at his reptilian companion "Was that you or your stomach?" he inquired getting a cold glare from the drake in return.

Azariah snorted lifting his head high ceasing his fiery glare in order to continue walking making it clear that in reality it truly only was his stomach, he hadn't eaten for quite sometime and Nathaniel looked like he could have some more meat on his bones. Azariah shrugged his shoulders and notioned his head to continue taking place at Nathaniels side as they walked down to the cafeteria, Nathaniel himself preferred to eat out since he wouldn't have exactly called their dining options to be 'fine cuisine' however nonetheless it was a good place to get a raw chicken to satisfy Azariah's hunger before he feasted on a student or lesser squad member. He'd had the thought before, and had only tried to entertain it twice though he'd been harshly reprimanded for those two times by Nathaniel it still didn't do much to deter him in the slightest. Azariah did have to eat after-all and to him any meat was good meat; he never was a picky predator.

Nathaniel sighed passing by the hall that led to the students cafe and then the one to the lesser ranked squad mates going for the upper squads cafeteria noting how his own peacekeepers within the room were seated at the opposite end of the scribes eating their food and joking around with one another. He frowned slightly at the lack of inter-personalization between orders, personally there were a few scribes he wouldn't have minded getting to know better. Then again there were also quite a few hidden watchers he'd never let slip into his dorm no matter how hard they tried to get in, but even with them there were a few...exceptions. Nathaniel let a thin smirk slide across his lips as he surveyed the scribe's table a brow arching slightly as he saw the patriarch there seated among them; putting that aside Nathaniel had to get Azariah his meat. Reaching a hand up into the recesses of his leather vest he pulled a small case from an inner pocket taking out two folded five-dollar american bills which he flicked over to the cook as he approached "Seasoned the way he likes it?" Nathaniel asked leaning forward on the counter stretching and exposing the red ink silhouettes of his familiars kind along his skin. "Of course, of course sir. Don't wan'im comin over and making me 'is lunch instead" Nathaniel chuckled and smiled "Then it's best to not keep'im waiting"

ROBERTO & JEAN-MARC
A little advice for aspiring fires, you get put out if you don't get a little wild!

This war is warm and vibrant,
Our love has turned to silence.
You've got two months to tell him something.

It seemed his words had an effect on the creature. That was good. As long as it (he?) didn't kill him, it was alright to be angry. When they were angry they didn't think right. It was easier to convince them or even fight them when they were angry. He stopped in front of the minotaur, skidding back and stumbling a few steps. He had run that fast by making himself weigh almost nothing, and had pushed his body further by using his momentum. He actually hadn't used up all that much energy. He glanced in back of the minotaur for a few moments and caught Jean-Marc's eye, who quirked an eyebrow at him. He sent him an it's fine in silent communication, practiced over ten years, and added a keep back face. Marc nodded, but looked prepared to jump in in case something went bad.
"Actually, that wasn't a challenge. Just trying to get your attention, since you were running so fast and all." Roberto answered, looking completely unfazed by the large bull's defensive stance and intimidating axe. Judging by his voice, the minotaur was indeed male as he had thought. Probably. Monsters like these always didn't have completely set gendered voices, did they? "And I'd rather you put that away before you poke someone's eyes out, so we can have a chat without me having to think about the risk of you... chopping me in half." He explained, resting his gauntleted fingers through his belt loops. "I mean, the risk is still going to be there, but at least I won't have to think about it."

He eyed up the minotaur, thick brows furrowed. He was tall, strong, intimidating, but seemed hesitant to attack him. That was good. But he didn't have any tracker. How did he get here? He was about to ask him as much, until he spoke first.
"That's a good question. I like chatting, you know. A lot less painful for both parties." He started casually, still trying to make sense of how he had gotten here. "I'm Roberto. And I'm just here to help if you're willing to be helped. I might not smell like those normals who shot you over there, but I'm human. I didn't even know we smelled different. The more you know, I guess. And I know you guys don't like wizards, but I'm kind of one. Not going to force you back into the Void unless you refuse to assimilate or you actually want to be back there, big guy." He explained, and he looked around the minotaur again to beckon Jean-Marc over. "You might be smelling Jean, though. He's a Djinn. A friend of mine." Roberto added as Jean-Marc moved over. He too inspected the minotaur, then rocked back on his heels. He didn't look like he was going to say much.

Roberto paused for a few moments, silently looking at both his familiar and the invader before he spoke up again.
"How did you even get here? That's what I'd like to know." He asked, quirking an eyebrow. "I'd be happy to help you out in any way I can, but if you try to threaten anyone or anything in this... admittedly really gross smelling city, I'll have to force you and bring you in. And put you back in the Void. Which I've heard is a lot more unpleasant than here, which I find doubtful."
"It is, though." Jean-Marc mumbled, shooting a look at Roberto, then back at the minotaur. "Listen. Either you come with us willingly and we help you out, or you resist and we bring you in anyway and shove your hide back in the Void. Either way you're going to have to come back with us." He added.
"I had just said that." Roberto said quietly.
"Oh." Jean-Marc frowned. "Well. He's heard two opinions then." He managed, scratching his pink hair.
"Nice save." He grinned, and Jean-Marc couldn't help but grin back.

And if you love let him know,
Or if you leave him tell him so,
Or you will break his heart in two...

Geli Rivka Eichel
German Scribe with a supreme knowledge of Monsters

The elevators in the headquarters moved very quickly and in no time at all the metallic doors swung open. As soon as they did, all emotion and expression fell from the young scribes face. All words ceased to leave her mouth and she let her paper cut ridden hands fall to her sides. One might mistake this sudden silence and lack of facial features for being shy and timid. It was more of an embarrassment over her accent and the decision to listen rather then speak. Oh, Geli wasn't embarrassed or ashamed of her heritage, no she loved being German! It was more in her head that she stuck out like a sore thumb when others heard her voice that kept her quiet. Well that and she just felt talking without a purpose was kind of pointless. Generally she kept silent when in the presence of others that didn't include her familiar and she was rather fine with that. Did she have friends outside of Barth? Perhaps? In all honesty she didn't really know that answer herself. She didn't go out of her way to be particularly social and she supposed that came off as bitchy or socially awkward. Oh well, let them think what they wanted, as long as it didn't impede in her work. Of course her familiar found his bonded partners lack of social activities disturbing and did the best he could to get her more involved.

"Every time we walk into anywhere with other people, Mädchen, you stop speaking! You know the others think you're creepy and weird.'' the dragon at her side said as they left the elevator. Her eyes rolled briefly as she waved a hand down at the knee height sized dragon. "Let them speak then...I don't need the approval of my peers on my social skills'' she mumbled softly as they walked into the cafeteria. The different sections were clearly marked out and her feet carried her to the side designated for her fellow eggheads without much thought. Thanks to the sweet talking walks of her familiar the cooks often had some special treat for him and tonight was no exception. "Mmm, it smells rather delicious in there Miss Joseph, and might I add you look rather lovely today.'' the dragon spoke with smooth confidence as she hoisted himself up onto his hind legs and let his talons gently clutch onto the sill of the window where food was served. One sweet talking later on the dragons behalf, and much eye rolling on the human's, the two left the window. Geli herself had a tray piled high with carbs, things she couldn't possibly eat but the lunch servers always insisted on giving her a lot so she could 'fatten up'. The dragon himself walked away with the prize of a large rabbit dangling from his snout and the biggest grin on his face. "If only they knew you did that with everyone.'' the human mumbled as she walked towards the table. "Oh that would only shatter the illusion.'' he mused with a satisfied smirk.

Like one might guess, the two often separated themselves from the others as often as possible. On the dragon's defense it wasn't by his choice. He was a rather social creature that liked to be friendly with everyone and often did so when his partner fell silent. None of the tables were empty sadly but one did only have a single member there. ''Isn't that the Patriarch?" Barth asked as he spat the rabbit down on the floor and lowered himself onto his belly. Geli glanced over for a moment before nodding and setting her own tray down on the table and taking a seat. "I believe so...I wonder what he is doing here." she said back quietly and glanced over at him. One time she had seen the man without his familiar but that was all it took for her. Thanks to her familiar she had a photographic memory, she remembered every little thing she had heard on the man. "You should go say hi.'' the dragon said as he tore fur from the rabbit and Geli shook her head. "And you should stop speaking with your mouth full, Drachen.'' she grumbled and began twirling her fork into a pile of spaghetti.

All of a sudden the communication devices on the wrist of every agent in the headquarters would release a ping as a crackling broke out into the air."All available Peacekeeper agents please report to Central park! A minotaur has been spotted and he is pissed as hell! A Forensic Specialist team should be on standby to wipe memories and get statements from cops.'' a rather good natured male voice rang out over an intercom system before it crackled no more and the voice shut off.

"How odd! A minotaur? I don't think we have had one of those in quite some time.'' Barth mused and glanced up at his partner with bits of fur and blood sticking to his jowls. Geli merely nodded as she chewed slowly on a forkful of spaghetti and blushed as she covered her mouth with a hand."Don't you wish you had gotten assigned to the Forensic team?" he asked and she shook her head as she swallowed the mass of food in her mouth. "No, I like Creature Lore though...I might ask to be included on the Forensic team to take some notes on the creature. I have never seen one up close before.'' she said quietly as she continued eating, occassionally glancing over towards the leader of their particular headquarters out of curiosity but saying nothing more on it.

Phantom glanced from person to person, examining them and their familiars as he did so. One of the scribes had a rather large familiar, but of course it wouldn't be very suited to combat, seeing as it was just a large duck... What was it with central headquarters? They always seemed to assign the members with the weakest looking familiars to the scribes...
Phantom had been offered the position of head of central headquarters (which was the original Night Guard station, the oldest and now the main headquarters were underneath old Rome) many times, but Phantom turned them down many a time... He was the noble head patriarch of the New York Night Guard, and that was enough for Phantom... He had 98% of the say of what happened in the NY Night Guard, but because basic training went on in Rome, he had no say about where the new recruits went once they were assigned to this Night Guard station... Of course there was the occasional NY resident who became a Night Guard, thereby was put through basic training in New York, but that was quite rare...
Phantom turned his head as Captain Zathrien walked by. He looked puzzled, seeing Phantom in the cafateria with the men of a squad he was never a part of, but just shook it off with a smile. Phantom gave the faintest nod to him, giving a small wave of two fingers... And as he did, the alarm sounded..
"All available Peacekeeper agents please report to Central Park ( area 14-72 )! A minotaur has been spotted and he is pissed as hell! A Forensic Specialist team should be on standby to wipe memories and get statements from police."
Phantom's reflexes in this were almost instantaneous; He almost hopped out of his seat to go out himself, but suppressed the urge to go into action. The only thing that showed was the tightening of his right sleeve as he gripped the fork in his hand tight, before letting it go on the table.
Phantom turned his attention now to a girl sitting at an empty table just on the Scribe's side of the room... She had a small dragon-looking familiar, which would probably be well suited to fighting... It was obvious why she wasn't chosen to be in one of the other two squads; she wasn't suited to battle. Phantom could tell that right off the bat... Besides, she seemed like learning was something she enjoyed much more than killing or hacking up the enemy... Although that was what Phantom enjoyed as well, but he was put on the Hidden Watchers when he was young...
Phantom stood, and in an instant, he was gone from view. He had disappeared entirely... Many of the scribes at surrounding tables that were keeping an eye on him nearly fell out of their seats. Even a few of the Watchers and Keepers became wide eyed. One of the more advanced Watchers even remarked 'I couldn't even see his move!' which was remarkable, because the watchers were trained to keep track of the enemy no matter what speed they were moving at, and be able to keep up with them as well... But they wouldn't be able to keep up with the movements of a captain-level watcher, let alone Phantom...
Phantom appeared behind the young woman with the dragon-like familiar, whose name he remembered as 'Geli' from observing the final exam for the scribes (which was quite literally an exam, one that was written, unlike all the other squads, which had mission-like exams). He reached out and tapped her gently on the shoulder and smiled.

"You are... Geli R. Eichel, correct? Fifth seat and Creature Lore specialist of the Scribes, as I recall?"

Phantom remarked. There were eight seats in each squad, and three specialists (which were usually one of the eight seats, but sometimes were not). Each squad had a duty, and depending on your seat in that squad, your duties became harder. The second seat in a squad was like a Lieutenant; In charge of the squad while the captain is away or has passed away. Being the second seat does not mean when the Captain dies, you become the Captain, no. The captain of each squad is appointed by certain qualifications; First, the person in question must be very skilled in combat no matter which squad he/she becomes captain of. Second, depending on the squad, one must meet the qualifications. For the Scribes for example; The captain must be exceptional in all forms of knowledge about anything that may be required, or in the Hidden Watchers the captain must be exceptional at stealth, etc. Being the fifth seat meant she would be in charge of the squad if the four positions higher than her were indisposed.
Phantom pulled up a chair and sat next to her, giving her a smile. One of the members of the scribes pointed at him and said 'look! There he is!' and one of the watchers remarked 'how did he get over there without being detected... By any of us?' Phantom just smiled, before turning his attention back to the girl. She was clearly shy, maybe self conscious about something.... But Phantom wouldn't bite. He was a very nice guy.

Nathaniel Zathrien Mandrake

Nathaniel had not responded to the acknowledgement from the Patriarch Phantom mainly because as was common knowledge among the higher-ups many of the night-guard staff though having seen him many times never exactly knew who their patriarch was 'lest he was with his familiar. Just because Nathaniel had little use for remaining inconspicuous in his order didn't mean he'd blow the cover that Phantom had worked so hard to maintain; then again Nathaniel only assumed it was hard work. For all he knew the patriarch could be doing double laps around the Night guards while they were in the latrine; all the matter it still wasn't his business and he didn't intrude, things remained so much simper when everybody simply followed their own duties. Nathaniel watched the cook dredge up a strangely orange recently thawed whole chicken and drop it over the counter, Nathaniel didn't have to watch to know Azariah leaped from his position on the ground to snag it before it could hit the floor. His hearing of the thud from the five-hundred pound creature land on the marble of the floor was interrupted by the blaring of an alarm to which Nathaniel diverted all his attentions.

Azariah cared little for the blaring human voice too happy with the snared chicken between his lips which he immediately began tearing apart on the spot. Nathaniel had and still constantly nagged him about tearing apart his food on the cafeteria floor as it left quite the mess for the janitorial staff but at the moment Nathaniel was pre-occupied and as for the janitors well frankly he couldn't have given a rat's a**. His attention was caught though by the scent and presence of another ancient reptilian familiar eyes slowly following the duck shaped dragon with a hardly bemused stare; He still couldn't get over the idea of non-intimidating dragon and frankly he wasn't so sure if he'd have even called such a creature by the term, it seemed an insult to their kind. But maybe it would make a good meal. No, last time he'd tried that route he'd ended up actually sleeping in the furnace downstairs...Of course the first time Nathaniel had actually caught him with another familiar within his jaws. Still he deemed it not worth the risk, all the while he tore bone from skin and cracked them to slurp the marrow with his tongue. By the time he was finished the chicken was nothing but shattered bones on the floor.

Nathaniel sighed as he listened to the alarm cracking the kinks out of his neck loudly he passed by the peacekeeper's table hearing one of them begin to idly gossip about phantom's sudden movement. He walked over to the table and pointed at the man Kent in his early twenties and one of his senior peacekeepers; all that was left on his plate was a half-eaten piece of pie "You with me!" He said firmly notioning his head towards the door "But Sir, I'm not-" the peacekeeper made to protest likely about not finishing his food. "What's the matter? You're grandmother bake it for you?" Nathaniel quipped sharply not letting the man finish "Well tell her to bake you another when there isn't a 7ft tall bull rampaging through New York!" Johnathan said Azariah coming up beside him with half a chicken bone sticking out from between his teeth like a toothpick "Don't keep me waiting, or you'll be the next one to give Azariah a bath" Johnathan said turning to walk away. A low deep growl erupted from Azariah's throat as he followed undoubtedly giving Kent a death glare. "And you, be nice" Nathaniel said shooting his familiar a small smile over his shoulder. Nathaniel could hear Kent scrambling from the table with his dishes nearly dropping a few in his haste "You need to lighten up Azariah, it's only water. Won't kill you" he joked getting only a set of rolling eyes in return.

It took about ten minutes before Nathaniel had his gear and was riding the elevator with Kent and his own familiar a small demon shaped much like a black wolf but with fiery red eyes and jagged serrated fangs. The two of them were ahead of the assembling forensics and peacekeeper units as Nathaniel liked to jump into the action early and well going up against a minotaur alone was brash even for him especially since he himself had never gotten the chance to face one yet personally. They were quite the rarity. It didn't take long to find the disturbance within area14-72 as all they really had to do was go the opposite direction of the fleeing police; twenty minutes passed and both Kent and Nathaniel were peering out from an alley behind the Minotaur Nathaniel checking that both his Encore's were loaded fully each with their six rounds of .45 colt ammunition. It might not have been a strong enough shot to put down the minotaur but at that point Nathaniel wasn't planning on trying to kill it himself, Kent had a Spas-12 and from the looks of it 18 shells of dragonsbreath ammunition. Both against code and extremely effective incendiary rounds, pointing down to them Nathaniel laughed quietly patting Kent on the shoulder "Tell me you're source and I'll only give you one lap around training facilities." They both smiled at one another as Nathaniel peeked out of the alleyway to see his close combat specialist Roberto already on the scene. Odd, it was hard to get the man to complete a single lap around the training facilities though that was most likely due to unwillingness; the man was far from incapable. Giving Roberto a silent hand gesture from down the street Nathaniel slowly crept out of the alleyway waiting until his sights were lined up and he had positioned himself behind the minotaur to c**k his gun letting his presence be known "I assume you've been given your conditions already Minotaur do you comply?" Nathaniel called out hands steady and Azariah getting low ready to pounce.

As far as operations went, it wasn't perfect. Not by her exacting standards, anyway. That wasn't say it was poorly planned, or ill-thought out. In fact, a less meticulous spy mistress would have been more than satisfied. From most viewpoints, the operation was perfect. The target would stumble into the trap, traps, unawares and expecting, where he would then meet a swift end before there was even the slightest chance for escape or resistance. In theory, a perfect plan, with little margin for failure. All the same, Tatiana Venediktov did not prefer those odds. She was nothing if not a perfectionist. Her ideal op would have been fool-proof, with no possible chance for the target to even react, let alone contemplate retaliation or escape. It would not have relied on chiefly the agent's skill, not when it was possible for anyone to falter in that stressful a situation. But, sometimes, one must compromise. It was impossible for any op to be as perfect as she'd have liked. Her rigidly high standards saw to that. Still, she could grudgingly admit that the chance of success was...adequate.

The situation was this: It had come to her attention that a vampire had slipped through the Void and was stalking through Manhattan. It was her job to stop him, before he racked up a sizable body count. So, with Micheal and Assassin Sauvageon, the planning had begun. Micheal in particular had been very helpful in devising a trap to ensnare the marauding upir. After all, if anyone would know what would draw in this specific breed of the undead, it was him. It was in fact based on his advice that she decided to strike as quickly as they were. The plan had come together surprisingly fast. Part of her was automatically suspicious. If it was that quick to devise a plan, surely that plan wouldn't be nearly as effective. Hasty plans make poor operations. But, on the surface, everything appeared to be solid. Assassin Sauvageon would track down the vampire and plot the rough direction he was traveling in. Given enough time, he would place an assortment of traps designed to incapacitate the undead, and, once they were sprung, he was to eliminate the creature himself.

It was here that she began to have second thoughts. What if the creature should change routes at the last second? Or evade the traps? What if Assassin Sauvageon should fumble the kill? Perhaps her doubts about the Frenchman were unfounded. There was a long history of success in the Watchers, from the moment she had recruited him to today, that followed behind him. Objectively, she could say that Sauvageon was her best agent. Effective, efficient, with the backbone to do what needed to be done. No, no, if anything failed in this operation, it wouldn't be because of him.

As she watched the operation unfold from the Hidden Watchers headquarters, she kept waiting for something to go wrong. The screen she was viewing normally showed a large map of the city, but now the map had been cropped down to one small section of Manhattan, with three dots moving through it. Two represented her Assassin and his familiar, and the other, the vampire. From behind her, Micheal piped in with, "You know, I had much higher hopes for this thing in the planning stages." Tanya looked over her shoulder long enough to shoot a sharp glare at the vampire. He grinned apologetically and she turned back to the screen. "Right, of course I should have known better than to make a joke with a Russian in the room. Silly me." Tanya snapped back, "It was not funny joke." Behind her, Micheal scoffed. "Like you'd know if it was."

On screen, the three blips drew closer and closer together. Sauvageon's had stopped, presumably to lay down the traps, The dot of his familiar remained nearby, watching from a rooftop judging by it's relative potion to then assassin. Tanya waited, scarcely remembering to breath, her knuckles white with tension. Micheal wisely elected to remain silent. Closer, closer, closer...Finally, the dots collided. The traps would spring first, and then Sauvageon would swiftly eliminate the target. And, sure enough, the blip representing the vampire blinked once, then disappeared. "Poor, stupid, b*****d." Micheal said softly in commiseration from behind her. Tanya ignored him. She tapped the keyboard in front of her, opening a line of communication to Sauvageon. "It is done?" A pause, then confirmation. She let out a sigh of relief and sank into the chair that she had pushed aside in favor of looming in front of the screen. "Well done, Assassin. Tag body for retrieval and clean-up, then return to base." As she said that, the alarm began to sound, alerting all Peace Keepers to deploy to Central Park for containment. "Correction. Head to Central Park, We have reports of minotaur running loose, and I do not trust Peace Keepers to get job done. Remain on stand-by there in the event they polnyi pizdets* situation." Belatedly, she realized she'd slipped into Russian and quickly started to correct herself before shaking her head and adding, "Just get to Central Park."

Feeling satisfied with the operations success, she beamed at Micheal. "Come, let us celebrate with whatever they drop on our trays in cafeteria." As they left the command center and walked through the halls toward the lunch room, Micheal hovered at her shoulder. "You seem awfully chipper all of a sudden." "Operation was success. Perfect excuse to be chipper. Assassin Sauvageon was model of efficiency." Micheal grinned and affected an absolutely atrocious French accent. "Ah yes, Sauvageon, ze marvelous assassin." He scoffed and shook his head. "Guy's a ponce. Always acts like I'm about to eat him." Tanya choose not to comment on that, only reiterating, "Sauvageon is good agent." As they entered the cafeteria, she nodded toward the line while she surveyed the room. "Since you made bad joke, you get food. No arguing. I will find us seat." Micheal grumbled, but did as he was told. Tanya continued to scan the room before noticing the Patriarch sitting at the Scribe's table. She crossed the room to the table, ignoring the scribe he was sitting next to. "Patriarch, the operation in Manhattan was a success. The, eh..." She hesitated, glancing briefly at the scribe for the first time. Of course he would already have been notified that she was pushing the operation forward. It wasn't like it was top secret or anything, and he would be expecting her report on the op sometime, so why wait to inform him? "The vampire problem. No casualties, no witnesses, no complications."

Leonardo prided himself on being prepared for any situation, both business related or relating to his... Other duties. Right now, however, were one of those few moments where he felt what most people described as "nervousness". He supposed it was normal to be nervous, after all he would be introducing new technology to the best and brightest of the world, their reactions were of great importance to him. "You're on, Mr. King." Leonardo turned towards the stage. Another inventor was exiting the stage, after showing off a camera that actually managed to take a video of light moving in slow motion. "Yes. Well. I wont keep them waiting." Leonardo walked onto the stage of the T.E.D. conference, smiling at the sudden storm of applause. He wondered how many were genuinely applauding the work his company had done for the world, and how many were applauding him because he was technically financing most of their work.

"Thank you! Thank you!" He said, acknowledging the crowd. He waited for the cheering to die down before he spoke once more. "Throughout history, there have been two medicinal issues that mankind has constantly had to struggle against: Losing your sight, and Losing a limb... Well tonight, I want to announce... That mankind will never have to fear either of those things again." A hushed silence traveled through the crowd. Leonardo's claim was bold, yet did he have the means to support that claim?

"Many of you may have noticed something different about me... Maybe it's the fact that I have brown eyes, yet my right eye is blue." The silence was suddenly broken by a large gasp, his right eye was blue. A grin formed on Leonardo's face. "I would like to introduce my company's latest product: The Cybernetic Eye. Gentlemen, this eye will revolutionize, quite literally, the way we see the world... Not only does it allow me to see with nearly the exact clarity of my normal eyes..." The Television screen suddenly went on behind him, forcing another gasp through the audience. It was a live feed from of the conference... And the view was from directly where Leonardo was standing. "But it also has the capabilities to record video, take pictures... And for a bit more cash, connect to the internet and function with the same strength as the latest tablet or iPhone." A chorus of applauds surged through the crowd, it was quite clear to Leonardo that this may be the talk of the night. "But that's not all, I'd like to discuss the improvements we've made to cybernetic limbs... I think you'll find them quite fascinating..."

...Leonardo switched off the television in his office. He had been watching the whole conference through his newly cybernetic eye. The rest of the conference was just one slam dunk after the other, when he introduced his "new arm" (really, it functioned more as a sort of "glove" that fit over his old arm... Quite painfully, really) there were the standard Wow's and Oooo's he had come to expect from introducing his tech. Turning from the window, Leonardo looked down towards the city. There were so many bright lights below him, they almost looked like stars. He smiled, a soft smile, yet betraying hints of mischief. "I wonder if the Night Guard has begun to notice any... Strangeness yet." He hated having to make the night guard his enemy, but that was necessary. They were an obstacle in the way of human progress, and absolutely nothing would stop the future, under Leonardo's watch.
