xxxxxAlaric stayed quiet as Faelan talked with Amara. He was currently searching the tree line after Keanu’s howl had echoed through the trees. Ragnar and his team had brought back an elk and the scout caught Faelan’s look of distaste. The white wolf knew it was none of his business but he hoped there was a reason why the beta had not chosen a hunter like Faelan to go with them. When the other male asked if his scouting was productive Alaric glanced his way. “Nah not really; there was nothing out of the ordinary.” Well except for Raski almost blowing Piras’s cover but he would leave that part out. He did kind of agree with Faelan’s tone though. It did seem kind of counterproductive to send the scouts out when he did and not under the Tau. But again it was not up to him to question orders. When his friend spoke again Alaric nodded. He’d forgotten that Faelan had only been in the pack for about a year. “Time sure does fly.” He commented wistfully. Then Keanu broke through the trees with their new alpha female and Alaric smiled. They looked so happy! Maybe this would mean pups this year for sure! Briefly he thought of Piras and then felt his face warm. They were not ready to have pups yet. At least he wasn’t sure their relationship had gone that far.

Either way he loved seeing the little ones run around. Keanu had introduced his new mate as Libbii who then proceeded to say a few words. After that a handful of wolves went up to greet her and he had to chuckle when Nyx and Keanu got into a tussle. Those two siblings were a piece of work that was for sure and one can easily see the affection they have for one another. Then Amara excused herself to greet the new alpha female and after Faelan spoke with her, the hunter turned towards him and Alaric winced at his annoyed expression. He wasn’t one to let things go sometimes which was understandable in certain situations. He didn’t like to see his friend so upset. “All right, I may go do so in a moment.” Alaric answered, watching as Faelan settled down. At the moment Libbii appeared to be talking with Keanu and so he didn’t want to interrupt. So he would politely wait; at least for a moment. The festival had barely begun and he was excited. Over to his left Tynoshi and Xena were sparring and Alaric watched them out of curiosity. He wasn’t much on fighting but he did know that it was necessary for the pack to be defended.

xxxHurt. Everything hurt. Her paws from running over rough terrain, her muscles from trying to fight or run from unwanted wolf attention, her left ear where her own father had torn into it many seasons ago, and her heart from the loneliness. Echo has been on her own for longer than she cared to admit and it had almost gotten to the point where she just wanted to lie down in the dirt and give up. Yet she still pressed on clinging to the shred of hope that she’d find her brother once more. The earth was a huge place though and Faelan could be anywhere or maybe even dead. Echo shuddered at the thought as she picked her way through some brambles. No, he couldn’t be dead because she’d know it right? She would feel it in her bones. The fae could never explain it but it was almost like they shared a connection with one another though it hasn’t helped her thus far in locating him. When Faelan stormed off it had taken her a few days to go after him because of her family preventing her from leaving. Therefore his scent had faded considerably and once she did escape she’d lost it by the fourth day. Ever since then she’s been wandering the wilderness as a lone wolf. Several times she came across smaller packs that were happy to welcome her in once they determined that she wasn’t sickly. A young female ready for breeding would certainly help their numbers not to mention help them defend their borders. Well Echo had news for some of them; she was no fighter or willing to take a mate. Those packs she’d ended up stealing away when they weren’t looking once she’d determined that Faelan wasn’t among their ranks. Of course there were kinder packs that offered her peaceful solace within their borders but Echo always felt restless after staying in one for too long. One time she’d met a kind male who’d almost came close to making her forget her quest and settle down but he turned out to be too friendly with the other females and so she’d left. Echo never really considered what she might want in a male but they’d have to be a team for sure and loyal to each other.

Shaking her head the small fae pushed her way through some thick bushes before stopping in a clearing. Her nose and body told her that winter was coming and that even though she’d been on her own for a long time she’d never spent a winter by herself. Being in a pack increased a wolf’s chance of survival and she didn’t relish the idea of hunting and feeding herself which was ten times harder than if you had a pack helping you. Perhaps she should have stayed with the Kilo pack after all…still they did have that one elder with the shifty eye that creeped her out…After a moment Echo lifted her weary head to move on. When she’d been in her old pack she was shy, timid, and not one to speak her mind. Living out here had toughened her up a bit but not by much. Even her parents’ harsh training couldn’t diminish her gentle and loving heart. While quiet, she enjoyed having friends even though she never stayed long enough in a pack to properly bond with them. She just had to find Faelan or at least find out if anything happened to him. He was her brother and savior for without him she would have died long ago at the paws of her father. As it was she couldn’t believe Father hadn’t murdered Faelan where he stood on that terrible day but was happy he hadn’t. If Faelan was alive and well, Echo would consider her long journey over. All she wanted was to be a family again. As she padded silently onward she wondered if Faelan had joined up with a pack and had settled down with a female. He’d certainly been popular with the ladies in their old pack though he’d never chosen one for a mate. Maybe she was an aunt and didn’t even know it! The thought was exciting to say the least and it quickened her pace even though she was no closer to finding him than she was fifteen minutes ago. It was happy thoughts like these that kept her going even in the worst of times.

While she didn’t know it, Echo was coming very close to Okios pack borders. She’d done a good job at avoiding rouge males as it was the height of breeding season but she knew she had to find another pack to stay in at least for the winter. While she felt bad doing so, there was just no way she could settle unless Faelan was there. Only old age would make her stop and she was still young. Suddenly Echo sneezed and when she’d recovered she put her nose to the ground, thinking she’d smelled someone. The scent was old, a week at least but it smelled faintly female. Echo didn’t know that it was [Piras] she was smelling but it didn’t cause her alarm. Females were easier to deal with than males and old scents didn’t bother her as much as the fresh ones. When she’d finally reached the border line she halted. A heavy scent permeated the air here and from it she could tell a pack’s numbers and strength. They seemed to be large, in fact very large and one of the biggest she’d ever sensed. Echo had heard whispers about the Okios pack but she never actually visited them before in her travels. From the smell of things they might have an even number of males and females but oddly enough she couldn’t detect an alpha female. Maybe they didn’t have one yet? Or maybe she didn’t mark here as the others had? Either way it was curious. Too tired to carry on for now, Echo turned to dig herself a shallow hollow beneath an oak tree using the last of today’s energy. That rabbit she’d eaten didn’t go very far. Turning around once and then twice, she curled up and tucked her nose into her tail. Tomorrow was another day and perhaps she’d investigate this big pack. Maybe her search would finally be over though at this point it would take some convincing for her to join up with them even if Faelan happened to be among them. Echo had just been burned too many times and it was exhausting. Still she had hope and hope was a hard thing to kill.

Nyx did not believe any of her words to be rude, in fact, she was merely stating the truth along with what was on her mind. Nyx did not need a filter. Growing up, her parents had tried rather hard to keep a little more ladylike, considering her brother was to be alpha, so she would in a way be a representative of him. Others might judge Keanu based on how his sister acted. So while they weren't going for a dainty flower, they were certainly trying to at least get her to watch her mouth, of which they failed miserably at. Growing up in Keanu's shadow was hard. When Nyx was really little, she was quiet, shy almost. Others walked over her, especially those who were enamored with her brother the new 'prince' that was to take over the pack some day. When she wanted her mother's praise, Keanu would receive it instead. While this would make some extremely bitter, Nyx wasn't like that. Instead, it pushed her to be better, to speak up, and not be afraid to talk over others if need be. Just because her brother was the alpha didn't mean that she would get swept away in all of his glory. Even now, she stood tall there in front of Keanu and Libbii, never taking back a word she said and never letting her tail fall lower than she believed it should have been. Now, as she kept her eye on the new female, the warrior narrowed her eyes. Just slightly, Libbii had showed a bit of discontent with an ear twitch. At first Nyx thought the other female to have swatted a fly or something from her head, but ever so slightly, she noticed her nose wrinkle. The hair along Nyx's back stood, for a warrior to be in the presence of another that did such things, even small actions, she saw it as a challenge. If Nyx needed to, she would quickly step up to defend her brother. She wasn't going to let him have a mate that she deemed not worthy of him. Sure, Keanu didn't need anyone to protect him, but Nyx still took it upon herself to watch out for him. Sometimes those that were the highest didn't see what all went on below them, so Nyx was his eyes and ears for places he couldn't see. And now, this Libbii was one to keep an eye on. Alpha or not, Nyx would have no problem challenging her and seeing if she was even worth being an alpha. She did not know a lot about the pack that Libbii came from. What if they weren't up to their standards at all? Time would tell.

xxxxxNyx took a step forward, as if accepting Libbii's challenge, yet thankfully something intervened, Amara came up to them and Nyx laid her ears back. How dare the young pack member just march right up whenever the higher ups were greeting the other higher ups, for Nyx often forgot that she didn't hold a high position. She snorted toward the white-coated fae and narrowed her brow, about to open her mouth and tell the other that she needed to learn her manners and her rank, but without warning, she was attacked. She had heard Keanu's words to her, but didn't expect her brother to bowl her over in such a way. Of course, the mighty Nyx, pinned down twice in one day. At first she had slightly struggled, but then more so gave into it. He had used his chest to knock her off balance. Curse her for letting her guard down! This had already happened once! How could she have let it happen again?! Ugh! But it was when his paws were around her neck and they were both tussling on the ground that she found herself sighing, showing her defeat against her larger brother. Then his nips around her muzzle and ears came, to which she allowed him to do at first, but then nipped back, showing that she wasn't fond of being pushed around so much by the brute. Finally, he let her go as he stood back up to shake the dirt out of his coat. Nyx remained on the ground a moment, rolling onto her belly to collect her thoughts. She was tired of constantly having to have her guard up, but if that's what it took for her not to be thrown around, then so be it. When she stood up, she likewise shook herself, still there near Libbii. Perhaps leaving them alone would be appropriate now, so she turned to start to leave. That was when an ear turned, catching what the new alpha said. She wanted to rest? Was there new alpha already tired? They had spent so long, and worked so hard for all of this, so that she could take a nap? The new alpha should have been stronger and had more stamina than that. Where in the world did Keanu pick up this fae? Turning her head around, she glanced to her brother, an expression of disapproval upon her face that only her brother could read and then went on. She had about enough of this and wished to be somewhere else. If the alphas went and napped then no one could start to eat, all the food that was brought in would be bad by the time they finally got to it. If this new female thought this was tiring, then perhaps she wasn't fit to be next to her brother.

xxxxxYes, Nyx was more than over protective, but it wasn't so much of her brother, but of her whole pack. Nyx had laid her life on the line more than once and didn't want all of her efforts to go in vain for someone new with new ideas coming in. She'd have a talk with her brother later. Padding out, she turned to go over toward a row of young trees that bordered the den area off to the right. They stood at different heights, but weren't too big a round yet. Here, she found a stick and picked it up to haul it off from the area. Anything to get her away and cool off for a moment was appreciated, so she went down the hill, back into the foliage to take care of the oppressing stick.

Location: down the hill from the den by a big pile of limbs

Tamar had never been good with hello’s. If anything, the Zeta seemed to be socially awkward. Despite the fact that he exuded an air of confidence, he stayed behind while everyone rushed forward to say hello to the new Alpha Female. Tamar was more of a silent observer. The large brute was a wolf of few words, when he did speak he was often listened to. It had been the same thing when he was a pup. Quiet, always so quiet. It wasn’t entirely uncommon for a few days to go by without a word from the tri-colored brute. Currently, he was sitting beneath a tree with a gift in his maw for the new Alpha Female. He’d woken up bright and early to catch a small snack and get a drink of water, as he always did, when he came upon the rotting corpse of a buzzard bird. It must have died of old age during the night and it was stinking to high heaven. He’d been surprised that it had yet to be stripped clean. Never one to turn down a free meal Tamar had picked those bones clean in less then a few minutes. He had a rather large body for a wolf, as such he needed to feed often to keep his energy up and as Zeta, his energy was vital. After his meal he had picked one of the prettier, brown feathers off the bird as a gift for the Alpha Female. He’d even picked another one for his best friend, Nyx.

Nyx and him had grown up together, had romped and rough housed together. She’d been his first sparring partner and his right hand wolf in mischief when they were pups. He’d trained alongside her as a warrior. When he turned two he began to see her in a new light and although his attentions weren’t as forward as the other males not a day went by where Tamar didn’t try his best to win his best friends affections. Even if he did it rather awkwardly. Unlike the pack Romeo, Asher, Tamar lacked the finesse it took to woo females or flirt with them. His version of a romantic evening consisted of a good, long sparring match and then a nice, long meal. Flowers weren’t his thing, gifts were iffy with them. Nyx was such a whirlwind that he could never be sure with her. Even though he’d grown up with her, it was hard to read his most diligent warrior. Hopefully, his gift would help her see him in a new light when he couldn’t find the words to tell her of his true feelings. It really didn’t help that Ragnar shared his affections for the female. Although Tamar was competitive by nature and a naturally confident wolf, his lack of skills in the area of romance often had him rolling over in defeat to any competitors for a females heart.

But not this time. This time, Tamar would roll over for no one. He was determined to win over Nyx or he’d go celibate for the rest of his life…..alright, so that may be a little rash. He wouldn’t do that. He’d probably just sulk and take his anger out on unsuspecting wolves in sparring matches. With this thought in mind he made his way up to the Alpha Pair after most of everyone had left. Bowing his head to Keanu respectively, he turned his gaze to Libii and quietly appraised her. She seemed small. Then again, to him everyone seemed small. But she held herself confidentially, he could tell she seemed sad, he would be too if he had to leave his family. But overall, he approved of her. “Welcome to the pack, Alpha Libii. I am Tamar, the Zeta. We’ve all worked long and hard for your arrival.” That was probably all they’d hear out of him for the rest of the day. He then placed his gift at the Alpha females feet. ”A feather for good luck and good wishes on this breeding season.” He bowed once more before he turned and left.

This time he headed towards Nyx’s scent. Intent on giving her his gift and maybe convincing her into a good old sparring match to liven his tense feeling. When he found her a few ways away from the den, he bumped hips with her and chuckled lightly. “You are unsure of her, Nyx?" He grinned as he dropped the feather at her feet. “I brought you a present. But I know what’ll cheer you up, how about a nice sparring match?” Always one to be brunt and quick to the point, he nudged her shoulder in an effort to get her to fight with him. “Just like old times.” Nyx was probably the only wolf who ever heard Tamar speak more then two sentences. When they’d been pups they’d practically been attached at the hips so it was only natural that he would feel more comfortable around her.

Deep blue eyes opened slowly, blinked, and then focused on the accusatory voice that had disturbed her rest. Naveen was unhurried in her mannerisms, head lifting a few inches away from her paws as she regarded the other wolf. A quick sniff told her this was not a fae from the Oikos pack and thus, no threat to her. She yawned widely and then ran her tongue around her lips.

Why in heavens are you angry with me?” She cooed back, “It is hardly my fault if your rmousy-heart cannot handle the shock of a sleeping wolf.”

She had slept longer than she had intended, and though it did not show in the casual way she lifted herself up, Naveen was uncomfortable with having been caught unaware. Her stomach was still engorged by the feast she had claimed earlier and she was hardly in the mood to fight some wolf she had no quarrels with. She shook the day from her coat and then jumped down from the rock, he coat lush and warmed. She spied the feathers scattered about the beach and chuckled quietly, “If you are hungry, there is a deer calf stashed beneath the brush a short trot in that direction. You are welcome to what remains, but I will personally rip your throat out if you touch what I have stowed away for myself.” her voice was unthreatening, but matter-of-fact.

Naveen padded to the rivers edge on the opposite side of the she-wolf, bowing her head to lap at the cool waters before lifting her gaze to scan her surroundings. There was no sign of any pack members. She had been lucky that only some unattached female would be the one to come across her-- and an unobservant one at that. She turned her gaze back to the other female, ears pricking in curiosity.

You are not a member of the oikos pack. Who are you?” he tilted his head just a bit.

Nyx went from the den site area to down the hill, allowing the ground to change under her feet. With the den, it was mostly dirt from the obvious wear that the packs paws gave it, yet as she went down the hill it changed. At first the dirt changed to small blades of grass and a couple of premature crunchy leaves that crumbled underfoot. Then the grass became a little taller as the hill became steeper. No longer was she destroying it between the pads of her paws, but now she was navigating her way through it, like a boat at sea. The stick she held in her maw caused ripples over the tips of the foliage. Asher may have found the area romantic or be overcome with some type of poetry to go along with the scene, but not Nyx. She saw everything as grass, nothing special. A lot of the wolves within the pack took the land for granted. They had lived here their whole lives, never roaming to see what else was out there. It was easy to disregard what they were used to in their life. It was easy to overlook something lovely for the fact that they had grown content with it. Nyx was one of those content wolves. Of course she wasn't like most females either. She wasn't looking for love, or some beautiful sunset over the mountains. In fact, Nyx was very happy with her current life. She was comfortable, had a good position, was able to get away with things that other wolves wouldn't, she had a lot of respect in the pack, even if some of it was a faux respect. It didn't matter too much to her. Wolves would talk and she'd much rather it be behind her back than in front of her face. She didn't have time to put up with another's drama or poorly chosen words.

xxxxxFinally, her paws met level ground, near the bottom of the hill. The grass was still tall, but it bent in different directions with the limbs and branches that had already been moved down there. The stick that Nyx held between her teeth was drastically dwarfed by some that had been moved there, but yet she was merely looking for a means to leave the den site for a moment rathe than to actually be useful. She hated to be caught doing nothing, which was one reason that Ragnar giving her instructions infuriated her. He always seemed to catch her at the moment she was finally finished with something, making it look as if all she did was loaf around. She knew she was worth more than that. She trained daily, pushed herself to her limits, lifted a helping paw where needed, even if it wasn't her job to do so with certain tasks. With a huff, she sat the stick down in the pile and took a step back to evaluate everything. She still was unable to get that image out of her head, the look that the new alpha, Libbii, gave her. What was that about? What if the female was a she-devil hellbent on stealing her brother and governing the pack under her old pack, or even allowing them to infiltrate everything they had built and take over? Furrowing her brow, she became lost in this mental image of fire, burning land and falling trees, all under the fangs of another pack. Okios was strong yes, but they hadn't been challenged like that in a long time. How would they fair?

xxxxxJust when it seemed all was lost inside her head, she heard footsteps before the other actually arrived. Even lost in thought, Nyx was very aware of her surroundings, for a warrior had to be. Turning her head to peer across her shoulder she noticed the Zeta, Tamar enter the area where she stood. Coming up to her, he bumped his hip against hers while she allowed her body to take the blow, but still placed a foot on the opposite side to steady herself, for the Zeta was a large wolf indeed. Ears swiveling across the top of her head, she listened at his words. Was it that obvious? Perhaps she was letting her aura change here considering she thought she was alone. Once more she had been caught off guard and it caused her to roll her eyes as she slightly shook her head. "I am and I know that I can speak to you in confidence, for it is not something I wish to discuss with my brother just yet. There's just something... well I don't know," she huffed, obviously disgruntled with her own feelings. Nyx did not enjoy it when her emotions got the best of her. "We will see as time passes, yet I will keep my eye on her. New alpha or not, she comes from an entirely different background. I don't see how the alphas did such a thing in the past without being wary. Perhaps consulting one of them would do me well..." she thought to herself. Pausing a moment to reflect on what she had said, she finally noticed the feather at her feet. The female warrior allowed her head to jolt up, locking eyes with the other as her brow furrowed in confusion. "Now is not the time for such superficial gifts," she remarked, unaware that her words may have held a shape edge to them; Nyx was pretty dense. "And I am not looking forward to getting pinned again," she huffed as she moved to turn more of her side toward Tamar. "Already I have been caught off guard by Ragnar and then Keanu. I must be losing my touch.... I'll have to train harder..." she let herself trail off, shaking her fur a little at the thought of being thrown to the ground once more. "Although I am sure that I could best you if not bring us to a stalemate," Nyx retorted, her head quickly moving to look at him, a furry brow raising in a tease toward the other. "What are your thoughts on Libbii? Do you think she shall bring prosperity to the pack, hopefully even puppies in the spring? You know breeding season is upon us. I'd be looking for a mate if I were you, you're getting up in age." Now this was a joke... well a Nyx sort of joke. To Nyx, belittling another was her way of poking fun.

Location: down the hill from the den by a big pile of limbs

Xena’s silver tones eyes scanned the wolves around her. She had just announced that she would like to spar, and her eyes were searching for a partner that was willing to go head to head with her. Nyah seemed to be interest in watching a fight, but didn’t want to spar. Xena respected her friends decisions, her friend was a scout no warrior. Xena’s eyes turned around, and then landed on Tynoshi, whom Nyah suggested. Xena’s tail twitched back and forth slowly, and then he agreed to spar. A smirk grew across the maw of Xena. Her ears flicked back and forth and she nodded softly. “You sure about that Tynoshi?” She chuckled jokingly and then readied herself. However, Tynoshi was well ahead of her and lunged towards her with a powerful hit. Her small frame was pushed forward as he attacked her and she tried her hardest to keep her balance against this large framed male. She growled, defensively but growls didn’t mean anything in this battle. They were sparring, not actually trying to kill one another. However, her smaller frame against this male was no use. As he barreled against her and behind her, she was pushed to the ground. She almost yelped in surprise, but her maw kept shut. Suddenly she pushed herself back up and jumped and spun around to face Tynoshi. Her tail was flipped up and she was ready to go. She focused her eyes on Tynoshi and suddenly everyone around them disappeared. It was just her and her fellow warrior now.

Sprinting forward Xena lunged towards Tynoshi, her aim was for his shoulder. However, her footing was completely off and she almost tumbled face first into the dirt. She snarled, towards herself, as her paws almost twisted and she was sent flying forward. She stumbling and regained her balance, before turning quickly so she didn’t give the male a good opening. “Well then, looks like I have my work cut out for me!” She chuckled out of breathe. Her eyes watched Tynoshi’s body carefully, examining his body language. If anyone knew Xena well enough, they would know that she wasn’t one to always use brute force. She also liked to use brain in a fight. That’s what made it harder for others who thought strength was everything to a warrior when they fought against her. Lowering her head, and tensing her muscles as if ready to pounce – she watched and waited for Tynoshi to make a move.

Tamar was used to the biting edge that Nyx’s voice sometimes gave. It made many of her words sound harsh, but she’d always sounded like that. Even as a pup. Maybe it was because he’d grown used to it that it didn’t bother him as much as it should have. At least she didn’t completely reject the feather. Like most things with Nyx, she’d probably warm up to it little by little. Over the past year or so Tamar had taken to giving her various baubles and interesting things from his collection. This feather just happened to be from a meal he had this morning. Maybe if it were one of his oddly shaped rocks or large pinecones, she’d be more interested in it? Then again, from his point of view Nyx didn’t receive many gifts so maybe she simply wasn’t used to such flattery and didn’t know how to handle it? He was sure if some female had handed him a pretty item he wouldn’t know what to do with it either. Where Nyx was cold with her words, Tamar was cold with his eyes. Or at least, that’s how it seemed since he was just so quiet. That’s why most of the females in the pack shied away from the large male. All except Nyx. But that might have been because they had grown up used to each other’s odd quirks.

”If you train any harder Nyx, you’ll have no time to eat or sleep. You barely do either as it is.” Although Tamar admired her dedication, her one set mind, and her perseverance. He did not admire the way she sometimes worked herself ragged. Especially when she was worked up about something. Rolling his eyes at her teasing words he sighed softly. ”I am neither a friend nor a foe of Libbii, it is simply too early for me to hate or love her yet.” Which really wasn’t a lot to go on because Tamar barely hated any wolves and loved even fewer. ”I do hope she brings puppies in the spring. It seems the pack needs to remember how to be playful. We’ve all been wound up because of her arrival, especially you, Nyx.” He paused as he yawned and stretched out. ”Are you calling me old? Them there’s fighting words. I’m only a year older then you, Nyx. You’re making it sound like I’m an elder. And for your information, I do have my eyes set on a certain female in the pack. She’s a bit hard to win over though.” With that said, he ended that conversation and moved on to one of more interest to a warrior such as himself. And a fine one at that.

”Here, as Zeta I will be the judge on whether you are losing your touch or not.” Standing from his perch next to her he swatted her ear playfully with a chuckle. ”Come on, Nyxie, you were pinned by two wolves today. Are you really going to let a third one have at you? Where’s that little furball I used to wrestle with when we were pups and would always pin me?” He grinned before he rose up on his hind legs, an impressive height, and wrapped his front paws around her neck. Using just the sheer force of his weight he was able to throw her to the ground. Just a preliminary move between two friends so used to each others sparring techniques. He’d perfected his own using her as a punching dummy after all. After a few victory laps around her, he let her stand and pounced once more. This time he nipped her neck and once again, leaned his weight into her. The bite wouldn’t hurt but it would be enough to at least get her play along with him.

xxxxxPiras stood her ground, looking to the fluffy cotton ball atop the large rock near the river. The red accented wolf's tail and back was on end, all fluffed and ready for action. Piras was never one to really be calm. She was always at least a 6 on the 1-10 scale of excitement. Now was no different. She kept her head rather low, waiting to see what this larger female would do. Her coat was strange, very thick, obviously the female was not from around here and Piras silently wondered how she would deal with the hot summers that this land had to offer. Funny, Piras didn't even notice those intense eyes. Her constant flickering mind jumped from one thing to the next, never able to be still and notice things that she should have. She did however notice that this fluffy white bunny did not see her as a threat, to which Piras was put off. She was every bit a raging monster that could easily tear another apart. She may have been small, but she was a great hunter, stealthy, quick, able to get under the brush without being noticed. She had helped bring down many elk before and was able to chase down a rabbit all by herself. Piras was a little ball of fire when she wanted to be.

xxxxxThe large bunny spoke again, asking why she was angry with her and that it wasn't her fault. Then Piras felt her ears go back. She didn't have a mousy-heart! How dare this she-devil bunny call her such a thing. She simply thought that she was alone out here only to come upon a sleeping wolf. Everyone should have been back at the festival so what was this one doing out here all alone. The other's nonchalant attitude continued to put Piras off. The other suddenly lifted herself up, once more in a slow manner that showed she wasn't even concerned with Piras' presence. Piras felt her muzzle wrinkle, showing her teeth just barely as her ears stayed pinned against her skull. She watched this white fluff examine the area, the feathers in particular. Then it offered a deer calf stashed beneath a bush. At first Piras saw this as some sort of peace offering, but it was followed by a threat of her throat being ripped out. "I'm a skilled hunter and I don't need someone else's charity, especially with a threat attached to it," she remarked, turning her head away. If this was how the outsider wanted to interact then Piras would have no part of it. She had half a mind to just leave, but she was here to make sure the place was safe for Libbii. She couldn't have this strange, dangerous outsider around the place. Perhaps she should let Alaric know. Oh, but he was at the festival. She had heard the howl made by the approaching alphas. It had been a joyous one, so she knew that it had all started. Maybe she could even somehow lead one of them to this stranger. She could use her own scent as bait and trace it back out here.

xxxxxJust as Piras turned to high-tail it out of there, the bunny posed a question to her. "Of course I'm not. I'm a member of the Abous pack. I was sent here to keep an eye on the alpha's daughter who is now to become the new alphaess of the Oikos pack. Do you not know about their customs? They're rooted in tradition. The Oikos pack is the largest pack around here and controls the most land. They've been here for several generations. Every time their old alphas are ready to step down, they get an alphaess from another pack to get new blood to pass on, plus it builds a unity between them and the other packs around. They are Abous' allies." She stopped a moment and thought to herself. "So then where are you from? Obviously not here." Thinking back to her pack, she knew that she wanted to be away from them. She craved that companionship sure, but being on her own had perks that she never thought of. At least out here others couldn't look down on her because of her size, but meeting this new wolf brought back some of those bad memories. If she had to live on her own, then so be it. She and Alaric would start their own pack, they didn't need anyone else. Besides, she could convince him that he would be better off without his pack. She spoke highly of his pack yes, but perhaps it wasn't as great as she made it out. Other wolves only meant teasing and rude jokes. Piras wouldn't have any of it.

Nyx had been childhood friends with Tamar, the two sparring and training together as they grew older. Of course he had a year on her, but that didn't stop Nyx. Whenever she first really met him, she had been about 3 months old. But the two became fast friends, rivals at first really. They constantly pushed one another and at first, Nyx didn't really even like Tamar. She saw him as an obstacle in her way, another wolf like her brother who always overshadowed her, and she hated it. Thankfully all of that smoothed over with every spar and every fight that the two had. In fact, Nyx looked back on some of those times fondly, even if she didn't feel too great at the time. She hadn't been very old, still lanky and trying to grow into her long legs and oversized paws, but she would yell that she'd beat Tamar about every day. He of course was larger than her, always had been. But she'd promise to take him down and sometimes got her a** handed to her. Because of their strange friendship, she became estranged to some of the other wolves her age. Sure she'd spar with any of them, even have a conversation or two, but most of her attention was on showing Tamar that she wasn't going to be pushed around. Her brother Keanu would sometimes lick her wounds later on in the night telling her that she needed to calm down and that Tamar was older than her, so it made sense that he'd be a little more skilled. To Nyx, this was merely a challenge.

xxxxxSitting upon her rump for a moment, she listened to his words, saying that all she did was train now, but Nyx could still see places for improvement. Times when she would rest could be time spent practicing and getting better. She had to, for the pack. But she rolled her eyes at his words. She'd do as she pleased and he wasn't going to tell her otherwise, Zeta or not. He was very aware of her bullheaded nature. But thankfully he changed the subject before she said something else that she might regret later on. He spoke about Libbii and how it hadn't been long enough for him to make a real judgement call, which she admired of him. He had a good head on his shoulders. Ruffling her fur a little, she raised her head high as she considered this all. "Show off," she muttered to his wise words. Then he said how she had been wound up to which she stood to her feet and paced a little. "I am not wound up..." she retorted, casting a challenging glare to him as she completed her little circle that her paws carried her in. The zeta yawned and stretched, but his new words made her smirk. "Well for a male that sounds pretty old..." she stated, not looking to him for a moment. "And if you want a female, then be a real brute and speak up about it. Females aren't going to last forever. Plus, if she turns you down like I'm sure your first will, it'll give you time to move on, especially if she's hard to win over. It'll do you good to get it off your chest." While she was about to continue, he quickly changed the subject once more, one thing that Nyx hated. If there was something to talk about, then she'd normally talk it to death. "That little furball needs her rest for more spars later on during the festival," she answered, but it was too late, Tamar had already come after her. Oh why was this constantly happening to her today? All these males were getting on her nerves.

xxxxxThe male was on his hind legs before she had a moment to realize just what he was doing, then those massive legs were wrapped around her neck. This, she did not appreciate and her jaws were instantly on his leg, right above his paw. It was closest to her face, so it was the easiest thing to grab. This didn't deter him though, for soon she was on the ground, a nice twist on his part that brought her crashing down. A sharp bark could be heard leaving her lips as the wind was knocked out of her whenever she impacted, but other than that it was covered with a growl. She tried to get back to her feet, but he pounced again after circling her a few times. Now she was mad. This was too much for today, for she was already tired from this earlier. He nipped at her neck and leaned his weight into her. For any other pair of wolves the moment might have been a little intimate, but Nyx only saw it as an attack. Thankfully, she was fast, and using this to her advantage, she pulled her body out from under him within a second, using her shoulder to push against him, knocking him off his feet. The sound of his heavy body hitting the ground was music to her ears, for instantly she was upon him, her lips pulled back to show ivory-colored fangs. The fur along her spine stood on end, showing just how large the tuft of hair along her shoulders really was. Her tail was high, almost curling a little in the air, waving through the air like a flag of victory, but her face showed he distaste. "Can I not go a day without ending up under some brute?!" she remarked angrily, unaware of how her words actually sounded. Then she stepped off him, moving her feet elsewhere. She wasn't sure what exactly had put her in a bad mood. Perhaps it was Ragnar at first, then the fact of how he simply brushed her off when she tried to confront her, then again how he constantly told her what to do in her brother's absence. After that, she had been so excited to see her brother return, but again, she had been tackled to the ground. On top of that, the challenge from the newly appointed alpha Libbii had her on edge. Finally, when all she wanted was some time to cool off and after telling Tamar that she didn't feel like a spar, she was again thrown to the ground. The taste of dirt was something that had happened too many times this day. She hadn't meant to be so vile toward him, and perhaps it was unwarranted, but Nyx was stressed out. She turned her back toward the other, letting him know that the fight was over.

xxxxx"Forgive me, that was rude," she told him, the feather that he brought her catching her eye for a moment as the wind tried to lift it off the ground. Her paw gently pushed it back to the earth, keeping it there as she tried to calm down.

xxxxxKeanu managed to remain calm as he saw uncertainty flare between his sister and Libbii. He’d tried to control the situation by engaging Nyx in a play fight but it hadn’t worked as well as he thought it’d would. He knew his sister by now and had not expected her to understand the word ‘play’ but he had hoped the lightheartedness would win her over at least a little bit. Despite Nyx’s bullheaded attitude Keanu loved her very much and she him. They trusted in one another. Now as Libbii stared down Nyx Keanu felt discontent. Of course his sister was who she was but Libbii didn’t know that even though the new alpha female was being tested. He saw how Libbii’s muzzle wrinkled and the fur along Nyx’s back spiked in response. Keanu lifted his head and looked from one female to the other. Neither one of them were pups and didn’t need him stepping in so he would wait until the situation settled itself out. Technically Nyx had a right to challenge a new leader just as Libbii had the right to feel offended by her words. After Amara had gone, the alpha male caught the look his sister shot him as she decided to leave. They would probably need to have a talk later. Then Libbii asked if she could lay down for a bit so she could feel more refreshed for the festival. Well the problem was the festival was going on right now and will continue to do so. He felt bad that she was tired but this was tradition and leaving would be a bit rude to the others. Plus he had yet to speak with Ragnar and make sure all was well while he was away. Not only that but other members of the pack might require his attention. Sometimes the alpha had to ignore weariness for the good of the pack. At first Keanu was wrapped up in what just happened with Nyx so he didn’t answer right away. Luckily Libbii seemed to forget her exhaustion as she took interest in a spar that was going on between Xena and Tynoshi. Both warriors were capable and skilled fighters. Tamar should proud of them that’s for sure which Keanu knew he was.

Speaking of the zeta; Keanu looked down to where Nyx had padded off. They were almost out of sight but he recognized the bulk of Tamar across from her. The three wolves had grown up together though Tamar seemed to share a bond with Nyx that even Keanu wasn’t entirely apart of. Glad that she had her friend with her, Keanu’s orange eyes searched for Ragnar. Faelan, Nyah, and Alaric were nearby and he nodded towards them as he moved a few paces to the right. Amara was with Little Rock and a few other wolves mingled about. After a moment he sighed. Perhaps Ragnar could use a break for a bit as it was a festival. He could always ask him later about the report. Keanu suddenly felt frustration towards his inability to settle down churn his belly. Why couldn’t he ever let go and just relax? Now was a happy time and he knew Tamar would have his warriors on whatever intruder dared to challenge them. Not only that but Asher had his back and Ragnar was a more than capable beta. So what was he so concerned about? Honestly Keanu didn’t know. For the first time since returning he felt a bit uneasy about the whole situation. He hadn’t missed the look in Nyx’s eyes though he knew he should calmly address what was going on. Libbii had hardly been given a chance yet and while it was foolish to expect every wolf to like her they had to at least respect her. For most respect came with time and it was this thought that kept the young alpha male from acting rashly. He wasn’t a yearling anymore. Still if the alpha’s sister and female didn’t get along that didn’t bode well… Feeling as though his thoughts were bouncing in too many directions Keanu shook his head to dislodge them for now.

Instead he followed Libbii’s gaze to Xena and Tynoshi’s match where Nyah stood watching nearby. Keanu rolled his shoulders as he too felt the need to spar for the energy level was rising and even though they may not know it, some wolves were testing each other for rights to mates. The males sometimes liked showing off what they could do towards the females but likewise the females also liked to show the males how strong they were as well. That was one of the duties of the new alphaess; to grant the first wolf couple permission to breed and Keanu wondered who would step up this time. As he looked around he saw Ragnar wandering about as though looking for someone to spar with as well. Keanu almost wanted to go over and ask him for a friendly match but as alpha he knew he should just observe for this was also about his pack and not himself. For once he wanted to let them strut their stuff inside of him constantly putting himself on display. Too bad Asher wasn’t around because Keanu had fun with his cousin when it came to fake fighting. No one would pay much attention if they were too busy acting like goofballs. Still he also worried about the masked male. Keanu could never quit put a paw on it but lately Asher hadn’t been himself. Sure he tried to hide it but the two males have known each other too long not to sense that something was up. He could not help but wonder what was eating him and hoped it wasn’t anything too serious. Asher was actually a deep thinker which was relatively unknown to most of the pack members. Now engrossed in the spar, Keanu waited beside Libbii to see what Xena and Tynoshi would do. Maybe he would talk to Asher later as well.

All their preparation and skittering about had come to fruition. All of the pent up excitement, nervousness, buzzing was released as Keanu and his new alphaess emerged. Even a breath she hadn’t known she was holding escaped. Little-rock, as was her nature, remained toward the back of the crowd, beside her den where she’d spent most of the day organizing and preparing. Through the mass of bushy tails and eager bodies, she could only catch glimpses of the pair, but she’d seen enough to know that Libbi was pretty and Keanu was already beginning to fall for her. How sweet. Little-rock wagged her tail a few times and settled beside her den. She wasn’t much for sparring and with the others getting riled up by the festivities, she knew it wouldn’t be long before she would have to tend to a sprained paw or krinked tail. More than once, spars between males tended to become actual fights, especially with so many unclaimed faes running about.

She noted her father as he padded through crowd, followed in short by her sister. They greeted Libbi and while her father went to find a sparring partner, Amara came to sit beside her. Little-rock scooted over, lifting her head high enough to touch Amaras neck affectionately, before she relaxed once more.

Amara,” she chimed, “How are you today? I feel as if we do not get to talk as often as we should.” her tail swayed gently against the earth. Unlike her, Amara had not taken up any specific duties just yet. She had yet to really find her calling, but Little-rock had every faith that she would find herself and a purpose in the pack, “What do you think of Libbi?” Amara asked curiously, sitting up so she could better meet Amaras gaze. Little-rock would greet the new alphaess in the days to come. She did not want the fae to be overwhelmed by names and faces, and Little-rock was not one to be so forward.

Naveen smiled to herself when the stranger became defensive and snapped about how skilled she was as a hunter. She did not bother to point out that she had been unsuccessful in catching a simple bird, thinking the fae would take it as an invitation to fight rather than a point of fact. Naveen did not share company with other wolves often and had poor communication skills because of it. If the fae wanted the deer, she would find it. If not, then something else would find it.

As the Fae went on to describe who she was and what the traditions were between her pack and Oikos, Naveen watched her. She had never been a member of a pack and had no idea of what tradition or ceremony was, apart from what she’d come to develop for herself or learned from her romps with the pack males. She had never heard of a pack maintaining such a bond, but it made sense. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Not that any of it appealed to Naveen-- so many rules and obligations to follow. A pack would seem terribly constricting after a life-time of freedom. She could go where she want. Eat what she want. Sleep when she wanted. To go to a pack and be made a fool of simply because another wolf was born with a higher birthright. To be constricted to a spot, because someone had peed around it and tradition dictated she couldn’t leave because of said pee. She lifted her nose in distaste. When the fae asked about her own origins she tensed. Usually she would’ve withheld the information, but since the fae had been so forthcoming..

No, not here.” she agreed, “I have no pack. I was born of a lone fae and raised by lone fae. I have taken no pack as my own. I was born at the edge of a territory countless moons from here. I do not know the name of that pack, or I would tell you.” she flicked her eyes away, “So I apologize if my manners are ill-adjusted. I have only my own company for many seasons at a time.” It made her slightly uncomfortable to apologize, but she wasn’t a complete a**.

Amara was still in thought about greeting the alphaness, and how apparently Nyx made an attempt to try and make her learn her place. Amara didn’t see anything wrong with what she did, and from the kind responses she received from the alpha pair, Keanu and Libbii didn’t either. However, this made the pup once again rethink her place in the pack. Where did she belong? Spring brought the pattering of puppies, if the alpha’s allowed it. Amara thought for a moment, maybe she could help watch the young ones, or maybe she could go on and per sue becoming a scout or warrior. Twiching her ear to the side, she didn’t know if Asher would accept her; then on a second thought, Nyx probably just thought her too immature to be a warrior. She just did not know... where did she belong? What was her role? Letting out a soft breath of air, the young fae calmed herself, relaxing more when she felt her sister brush up against her.

Nuzzling down against her sisters head, she thought about what the other fae was asking. What did she think about the new Alpha. That was a good question. One she was hoping to not answer until she had completely analyzed the new member to the pack. Twitching an ear she smiled softly. “Nyx would have made a better Alphaness.” She mused. “In the sense that Nyx is hard for the rules.” She thought carefully on how she was going to tell her dearest sibling what she was thinking. “I believe she has potential. She is kind at heart, beautiful to look at. I know she has some backbone.” She paused. “Nyx was up to her same old, and I guess her words didn’t settle to well with Libbii. I felt a shift in the air around them. It almost felt as though they were going to fight or something.” She paused. “Lucky for her I redirected Nyx’s attention to me and my rude butt.” She giggled.

Let out yet another soft sigh she watched the brutes and faes have at one another in friendly spars. “That looks like so much fun…” She muttered as she looked down at her sister and then smiled. “Have you thought about seeking a mate for next year? With how well established you are, I am sure Keanu would grant you breeding rights.” She paused and then closed her eyes. “I had my hopes on someone. But I can tell he just isn’t interested. Too many have their noses up Nyx’s butt.” Which she didn't understand. Maybe it was the age she was, or the fact she was Keanu’s sister. Amara found the female personally a little on the bossy side. So, truth be told, she just stayed away from Nyx and only interacted as needed.

“But then…” she blushed and then shook her head. “Naw that would never happen.” She said sounding happy. Amara really did talk too much. “Who knows? I might become beta one day.” She laughed at the very idea. A fae like here could never replace their father. He was such a strong and brave brute. And there was no way she was going to be his mate; that was her father. Amara had her dreams, she had her wishes. But she wasn’t going to make them her whole life. “But to be serious. By spring I really need to get an idea of where I want to be in the pack… So I can start training for it.”

As Zeta it was Tamar’s job to push his warriors to be their best and Nyx was no exception. Hell, some might even say he went especially hard on Nyx. But that was because he knew her sparring style, he’d grown up as her punch bag and vice versa. He had to push her. Her big brother was too…brotherly to really do that correctly and he had other things on his mind. Who else was going to push Nyx the way she wanted to be? She didn’t like being treated soft, she didn’t life being underestimated, she didn’t like a lot of these things. Maybe that’s why they made such a good team together, they clicked. But her words kept echoing in his mind. They bounced around like a hive of angry wasps just gunning for his attention. ”Be a real brute and speak up about it.” Usually, he wasn’t the type of wolf to beat around the bush. He was bold, he was brunt, and he was brutal sometimes. That’s why he made such a damn good Zeta. Nyx had many of those same qualities and that’s what he loved so much about her. She didn’t beat around the bush like so many other females did. She didn’t sugarcoat things. If he screwed up in a sparring match she tore him a new ear. He appreciated that probably more then anything else. She corrected his mistakes so that when a real fight came up he wouldn’t get killed, and vice versa.

Tamar wanted her to know all this. He wanted her to know that he wouldn’t be a Zeta if it hadn’t been for her. He wouldn’t be in this pack if it hadn’t been for her. His parents constant bickering had driven away his siblings and he would have been right on their heels had it not been for Nyx. But he had no idea how to tell her this. He wasn’t good at expressing his feelings. He wasn’t Asher who so naturally swept females off their paws with his eloquent poems and words. Although Tamar has his sights set on Nyx with breeding season fast approaching and all his efforts at wooing her going unnoticed, he was beginning to lose hope. Not to mention the competition Ragnar posed. The years before this year he hadn’t really cared about having a female. He was too busy getting acquainted with his Zeta position, strengthening his warriors, himself and the pack. He simply didn’t have the time to be looking after pups or a female.

But Nyx was right. Age was beginning to catch up to Tamar. He wasn’t getting any younger. The females nowadays wanted the younger males, the ones that strutted their stuff. He’d be lucky if he was able to catch the eye of another female. Especially with the cold manner he held himself around others. Nyx was the only female who knew how he really is. She knew he wasn’t some cold, senseless, war machine. For a long time he’d been an outcast in his own pack because of his large size. Growing up, the other pups didn’t really want to play with Tamar because his play was rough. Keanu tolerated him for a bit but Nyx was the one who was able to wrestle him and still hold her ground. He didn’t have to be afraid of breaking her. He knew her limits and she knew his.

”Nyx…” He was shifted on his paws rather awkwardly. Especially since they were so big. ”You’re right, I do need to be a real brute and speak up about it. I’ve been trying to win this female over for months but she’s so stubborn and bullheaded.” All the little gifts he’d been giving her and the extra sparring matches had all been efforts on his part to win her affections. That was the only way he knew how to go about this whole business of the heart. ”I would like to court you, Nyx.” There, he got that off his chest. Now came the business of trying to convince her. Knowing her she might laugh at his words. She could never take things like this so seriously but for once in his life he wanted her to see how serious he was. Which was easier said then done since Tamar was always so serious. If she rejected him he honestly had no idea what he would do. He might disappear for a couple of days to sort the emotions in him. Then again, he might just shrug it off and try again later. He was a persistent brute if anything. Then again, with him one never knew. He was always so emotionless that it was hard to tell when he was in pain, especially emotional pain. He tended to keep those things bottled up which wasn't exactly good for him or anyone else since he tended to lash out when he was in pain. Like a cornered animal.
