Catherine thought for another moment before sighing and shaking her head a little. All she could think about was that poor little girl. "That's horrible that a girl that young has to go through this." Catherine said softly and slowly. Catherine wanted to meet this girl she hoped that she'd be able to help her in some way get her to speak and open up a little bit. The girl had already gone through so much. Finally Catherine snapped out of her thoughts and looked up at the Major.

"So what can I do to help?" she asked her voice sounding a little more cheerful. For some reason Catherine no longer cared that she was tired, that was the least of her concerns. All she wanted to do was help the group in some way. The last thing she wanted was to be a burden to anyone else or anger them in any way. Catherine began to wonder a little about Major's story she was sure he had one to she already knew he served the united states in some way just because what he was called.

Run!

Miles didn't dare look back but the constant snapping of teeth and the moaning of the dead was more then enough to keep him running. Bumping into a few trees but ignoring the pain for it could cost him his life. The chase was now going pass the five minute mark and taking it's toll on the unfit doctor. Stumbling slightly and breaking for a mere fraction to see that four infected individuals wanted his flesh and were more then happy to walk till their feet rotted away. By the the grace of the cruel lady luck, Miles saw an opening in the forest and thus marking his salvation. Exiting out of the forest surprised the doc that it wasn't empty but instead showcasing a nice set of homes and even survivors. Of course the people would be armed but the doctor didn't care in the least and thus used what was left in his lungs to run at the group. "Don't shoot!!" Miles screamed to the group and no one in general. His feet giving away and falling face first at a young female survivor and an older gentlemen. Strum prayed that they wouldn't just simply shoot him like a sick dog and then turn their guns on the infected. Gasping for air but still gripping the empty revolver in his hand, Miles drifted off into a minor memory of the past.
----
" Okay! Everyone!" A very tired Miles Strum was busy trying to issue orders to the few remaining medical staff that had survived or didn't leave their station to seek shelter. The staff was tired, in shock, or was trying their best to maintain order among the sick, families, and stationed military. " I know everyone wants to leave but we are the final hope for a lot of these people and we must do our best. " Strum would have continued his little speech but was soon cut off by the roar of automatic gunfire. The soldiers stationed at the hospital were busy firing at the few infected that managed to get inside or the dying that had turned into the living dead. " Get any remainder patients to the next level and secure this level to no longer be safe for practice. Tell the soldiers that they can now shoot any infected or sick person on sight.." Miles couldn't believe his own words that were spewing out of his mouth but he had already seen so much death in less then 12 hours.

Maya Norley

Maya had taken another section of the house. She'd found a few more first aid supplies and toilet tank water in another bathroom and a few unopened snacks in a bedroom and office. There'd also been a few pairs of sharp shear-type scissors she grabbed. Maya also found, much to her distaste, a female walker. She quickly took her shovel and split the walker's brain. It fell to the ground, and she dug around in the room. To her delight, there were clean clothes to be found. She ditched her grime and gore covered ones and pulled on the clean clothes. She then went ahead and grabbed a few more pairs for Jenna and any other survivors they might find. Yawning, Maya searched through the rest of the rooms. Might as well see if there are any other clean clothes. We're all covered in grime. Luckily enough, she managed to scrounge up enough clothes for all the others and a few spares, rolling them up tightly and stuffing them into one of the backpacks. Just as she finished doing this, there was a loud crash from somewhere in the house. Frowning, Maya quickly grabbed the bags and headed in search of the noise. She came across a very Paulo and a worried looking Dallas. "Is everything okay? Either of you hurt? I heard a crash." She then looked around for Jenna, frowning. I hope everyone's okay. She was distracted when a faint screaming sound came from the outdoors. The words were unintelligible to Maya. Unsure of if she had really heard the voice, she asked the others, "Did you hear that? That faint screaming just now?"

Jenna Monroe

Jenna had been following from house to house. She split off from the others, going through a different section. So far, she'd found nothing of interest, until she came across a door that led into a garage. She went inside, and to her unfortunate luck there was a young male walker there waiting for her. She quickly dispatched of it, then set about looking around for anything that might be of use. Most things were cleared out, until she saw something in the corner. She walked over, and grabbed the handle of it, pulling out a garden fork. She grinned a bit. "Jackpot.." she mumbled to herself. She then went back through the house carrying it, then heard a crash. She went towards it, coming up to the group with the fork right when the faint scream sounded off. She looked at Maya. "Yeah, I heard it too" she said. "Think we should get back to the others?" she asked.

The familiar voice of Dallas carried to Paulo's ear as he stood near the front door to the house, looking down towards the floor with a rather emotionless look on his face. When Dallas asked if he was bit, Paulo slowly looked up at him and smirked lightly, shaking his head slowly. He was really shaken up by the entire event, having been attacked and nearly eaten by one of those damned things. Paulo wanted to reach over and hug Dallas, just hold onto him and not let go. He was one of the last normal things he had to look forward to in the hell hole of a world, and he was way too glad to see him again after what he'd just gone through. But he kept his composure and just stood there, looking as if he was in shock, as the girls came up to him.

The girl, Maya, asked about him, if he was hurt, and mentioned that she'd heard a crash. He just shook his head lightly to indicate to her that they weren't hurt, that things were okay. Jenna, to no real surprise, didn't say anything to any of them at first, but Paulo didn't really mind. He didn't want to think about the event he'd just been through, taking it a lot harder than most people would. He was a dramatic, making everything worse than it needed to be. So Jenna not asking him -- yet again -- if he was okay was almost a sort of assistance.

But then everyone stopped -- a voice came from somewhere outside. Paulo felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end as thoughts ran through him mind about why someone was calling out. He couldn't tell what they were yelling, but it seemed distressed all the same. A moment later Maya asked if they'd heard it, and Jenna was quick to answer, saying she had and asking if they should get back to the group. Paulo felt a bit panicked, especially considering he was still rather shaken from the whole nearly-getting-eaten episode.

"I heard it, too. We should go, I think we got everything we can here."

Paulo looked first to the girls, then over to Dallas. He looked still shocked, though his eyes were now wide as his mind was dizzy from everything going on. Looking at Dallas he felt a bit of comfort, knowing that the man always had his back no matter what. He felt safe around Dallas, and right now that was what he really needed. So without even really thinking about it, Paulo reached over and took Dallas' hand in his, holding it as he looked up in Dallas' eyes for a moment. Then he turned, still holding Dallas' hand, and started to exit the house with the girls.

James watched as Catherine came out of her little dream world and looked back at him, for a second he thought she was about to resume the whole eating issue, but instead she had asked him a question. "Eeerm" he began scanning the area looking for any jobs for the girl while they waited on Hank, Zeke and Jack clearing out the house. Then he heard the words "Don't shoot!" being screamed, he was caught at a disadvantage.

He drew his KA-BAR as the man ran towards Catherine, crashing into her he was alive and breathing, he had talked and so James put his KA-Bar away using the precious seconds he had to get behind Catherine "I am sorry about this!" He said as he ran a hand along her waist looking for the pocket of his Jacket where he produced his pistol and ammo box. The ammo box went onto the roof of the car and James pulled the slide of his pistol back loading it. He then used the door frame of the cruiser to support his arms as he took aim, the pistol was heavier than he remembered, in his weakened state it seemed to weigh 10x at least the amount as normal.

He took aim as the first of the creatures approached it was the body of a young woman in some pretty tight clothing, once apon a time she would have turned heads in her office or place of work (Who knows it might have been Hooters!) but now she simply turned stomach's. James watched as the woman slowed to approach her prey before he pulled the trigger putting the girl out of her misery, he quickly changed his target and placed a round in the head of a decomposing hill billy type zombie that fell out the woods next and so on with the one at his back.He felt tired, he was struggling to focus, this shoot out was harder than normal, "Go take him and Protect the Child!" He ordered Catherine, she wanted to help well now she could.

Dallas Lee Tucker

Paulo was definitely spooked, so he'd been attacked, survived it without being bit, and was, seemingly, okay. Even still, Dallas had the urge to both slug the man and hug him. Both equally waged war in him until he let out the breath he'd been holding, and lightly punched the others shoulder. "What the hell, y'scared the s**t outta me." Even with the girls near them he didn't mind admitting to that, Paulo was his friend, his ally. He needed him to stay with him. The idea of being left alone with a group of people that didn't particularly like him didn't sit well.

The shout from outside didn't concern him, he didn't much care what it was about, or who had yelled. If the walkers had heard then they'd have a problem. After a moment he registered that Paulo had gotten closer, and slipped his hand in his. Slowly his eyes scanned the others face, and his automatic reaction had him gripping the others hand tightly. As Paulo went to follow the girls he kept that tight hold and pulled him back, letting them go out to see what was up. "Hey....hold up'a second." Low and quiet so neither of the two girls would overhear. He was going to get this, whatever 'this' was, straightened out before he went and dealt with anything else.

Dallas had never been good with expressing himself correctly, or admitting to anything that might cost him something. But right here, right now, he was ready to take a chance. "Paulo." Awkward and uneasy he frowned faintly, trying to find the right words. The other looked so scared, and he wanted to reassure him, as well as confirm something that had been at the back of his mind ever since they had met. "Ah, christ." Pulling him in he quickly kissed him, the tips of his ears and his cheeks instantly getting a pink tinge.

"I ain't promisin' nothin'....but I ain't gonna leave ya, an' I won't let nothin' happen either, alright? Y'don't gotta be afraid of nothin'." Still flushed pink he dragged him out of the house, not sure he could stomach any mushy nonsense on top of his own embarrassment and awkward ventures into talking about one's feelings. They could talk more freely once they got some alone time, some real time where they might not get interrupted would be nice. Dallas may be bold and shameless, but he was vulnerable, and had a number of insecurities floating about. He'd rather not be brashly open about this new thing he was starting.

The little group of four was about to head out to the streets, head back to the group to figure out what was going on. As Paulo headed out after the girls, though, pulling Dallas along, he found the man tugging him back, yanking him to a halt just before they walked out the front door. Paulo turned around, looking the man in the eyes, rather confused as to why he wanted to wait. For a moment he just looked into the man's eyes, trying to figure out what he was feeling -- fear, maybe? Maybe he wanted to just make sure Paulo was really alright?

When Dallas spoke his name, he felt something different, though. An uncertainty, a bit of unease. Paulo cracked his lips, preparing to speak, but just stood there and stared at Dallas as he looked awkwardly around for a moment. What happened next, though, Paulo could have never, ever guessed. He found Dallas face moving quickly towards his own, and then a moment later felt the man's warm lips touch his own. Paulo's eyes widened for a moment and then closed tight as he just took in the feeling.

As Dallas pulled away, Paulo slowly opened his eyes as he felt the man's warm lips stray away from his own.

                          "Dal..."

It was the only thing he could muster, his own mind nearly shutting down from the overwhelming feelings he had. Paulo knew that deep down he really did have an attraction to Dallas, that always wanting to be so close to him wasn't just for a matter of protection, or because he looked up to the man. No, it was deeper than that... that Paulo really did love Dallas. And there was so much relief knowing that Dallas at least felt somewhat the same. Seeing Dallas a bit flushed with embarrassment, Paulo could only smile, wanting to wrap his arms around the man to give him a playful yet warm hug, just wanting to not let him go.

Dallas started to talk to Paulo, and the man could do nothing but smile. He knew that if he wasn't so tanned that he'd be blushing just as brightly as Dallas was, but he was happy to know that his embarrassment was covered up. Dallas had told him exactly what he wanted to hear, and Paulo didn't even know what to say back. Hell, he didn't think that at that point he even could say anything back. So as Dallas started to drag him on out of the house, he felt like everything around him -- all the hell he had just been through -- was completely gone. That the two of them would find a way through all the s**t, and as long as they had each other, everything would work out in the end. Because they could make it through anything.

                          "Thank you, Dallas... thank you."

That's all he could say at that point, as they were approaching the girls and the rest of the group. He knew he had to say more, had to let Dallas know how he felt, that he was just as committed to keeping Dallas safe. But not then, not at that moment. They would be alone soon enough, have plenty of time to talk things out, just... figure out everything. But even then, as the two of them walked hand-in-hand towards the rest of the ground, Paulo knew that things were already better than they had been. And he'd pretty well forgotten about everything that was going on -- the scream, the lack of food, nearly getting killed in the house they'd just left. But it would all come back soon enough.

Marcus 'Zeke' Kinkade

Zeke held his walker spike out in his left hand, and the pistol in the other, holding the weapons in gun to flashlight pose respectively. He stood by the door, listening, he could hear shuffling, but the walls werer thick enough to block out most of the sound so he couldn't hear much more than that. If they tried to open the door quietly, it might creak and alert them. Looking to hank, and now jack whom had joined them. He gave them a quick nod before getting infront of the door, and just as he had done many times before these past weeks, moved forward while kicking the door in, flying on it's hinges with such force as it hit something. A quick look in, and he saw all he needed, 3 adult walkers. 3, time for melee. Rushing forward, he moved the arm, sending the walker spike deep into the head of the walker closest to him. It went limp, and fell...

Just as he felt something pulling at his pant leg, on sheer reflex he kicked it outward, and as he turned he saw....something that made his stomach turn, as it rose from being tossed. A child, no more than 7 at least, dragging, bloody and missing an arm and a chunk out of it's neck. The young boy made zeke shake a bit before he shook his head, and with one quick motion, kicked the child walker straight in the head, snapping the neck and crushing the weak skull of the child in the process. The distraught from the sight and action was clear in his eyes, but it was already a walker,, he had too, if only to give the child peace in the after life. Looking to hank and jack, seeing how they faired on their walkers. The child walker must have been what the door hit, and why he hadn't seen it since it was most likely behind the door.

Catherine waited for an order from Major. Though soon she heard someone yelling and running towards them. It was a man and it wasn't until he was a lot closer that she saw he was coming right at her. Her first thought was to move away but she then noticed that he began to fall and she turned her face and held out her arms catching him. His weight made her stumble back in order to keep her balance be she managed to stay standing. "Don't worry, we won't shoot you." Catherine said softly to the man. The truth was she knew she wouldn't shoot him but she wasn't sure about anyone else in the group. Catherine felt the major feel for the pockets on the jacket and pull something out and she nodded to him before turning her attention to the new survivor.

Although she may be happy there was another survivor the group may not share her feelings due to the lack of food. But the food she had would last them up to a week maybe if they were careful with it, and she had a bit of water to last them just as long. There was also the food and water from what the people could find in the houses. Also when things calmed down a bit Catherine would suggest driving into town and getting food from an abandoned grocery store like she had done on her way here.

Catherine helped the man stand straight and she gave him a small friendly smile. Though her smile disappeared as she heard a gun shot and she looked to where it had come from and where they were shooting. It was the major shooting zombie that must have been chasing this man. There was another gun shot that rang through her ears. Catherine had watched major a moment realizing the small struggle he had just to hold his gun and she shook her head a little not saying anything now but she would later when there weren't zombies to worry about and less commotion going on.

Major had given her a job and she nodded and accepted it "Come with me." Catherine told the man that had nearly taken her down. Quickly she grabbed his hand and began to pull him around the cruiser. Her job was take this man with her and go protect the young girl. Catherine did have her pistol in a holster on her hip though she had never shot it once, she actually avoided shooting because she was afraid of missing her target and wasting what few bullets she had left.

As she was walking around the cruiser with the new man she noticed other people coming over to where the group must of been staying. There were two girls who must have been around her age and two guys who were holding hand. Catherine didn't think much about them holding hand she was used to guys holding hands because of how her friends where. Catherine looked back at the man behind her as she brought him to where the young girl was. "I'm Catherine by the way." she told him softly "That was James, but I call him Major and so do the others here." Catherine told him trying to give him the information that she had gotten so far.

Gunshots rang out through the neighborhood. Sounded like there were coming from outside. ********, that would bring the walkers. Their only hope was to get covered before they were spotted. Raising his AK he dropped the remaining two zombies, no need to not shoot them now. "Guys, I think the Major is shooting. Stay here, cover me if I need it!" With that he tore out of the house and onto the street, a walker was already lurching out of the woods, Hank dropped it. Tearing down the street he reached the truck and slowed to a brisk walk, laying walker after walker down as they exited the woods. When the last one fell he again sprinted over to the Major. "Sucks to be barely able to hold a gun up. Dinner the other night must not have been so filling huh?" He said, a bit pissed and visibly so. Going around he grabbed Alice, the little girl would probably scream and fight him but he didn't care at the moment. "Cathrine, Major, uh... guy I'm going to deal with here in a minute. Let's go. We gotta get to the house before any walkers spot us." Grabbing a bag of food he slung it onto his back, everything else would have to stay. The AK hung limp over his shoulder, opposite the little girl. In his hand was the revolver, leading him as he jogged off. As he did a few walkers spotted him, but he'd have to keep moving. He just hoped the others were close behind him and that Maya and her group could lay low where they were without attracting any attention.

RPD-Officer

When Hank told them to stay and the shot ran, Jack was sure they could not stay for long. He looked at Zeke to see how he would react and then Turned from the wall and kicked in the door. There was nothing alive apart from bugs inside the fairly small house. Jack looked around fast and went into the bathroom and opened the cabinet over the sink. "Hmm nice" Inside he found a few pill glasses of morphine pills, penicillin and another drug he did not know what was, 3 pills in each. The person using this was probably just out of surgery and this was what was left. When Jack went back into the living room he spotted a box that read .45 cal inside the tv stand and he kneeled to get it.

Suddenly something behind him stood up from the floor from behind a big couch. It was the owner of the house, or the remains. She had fallen on her newly operated knee when she tried to pick up the remote behind the couch and had been bit a few hours earlier, thinking it was a guy with rabies she hid back home, somebody would help him. She already had all the treatment for infection she needed, so why go to a doctor??.

The walker stumbled slowly onto Jack.

Maya Norley

Maya caught up with the others as they joined the rest of the group. She was as alert as cold be, and it seemed there was a small bit of chaos. Two survivors had joined the group, the Major looked ready to fall over, and there were walkers. Gun shots had already been fired, attracting more. She swore softly, noticing her brother come up and take the little girl. He seemed pissed. Maya hoped she'd be able to help him calm down if she got the chance. She looked over as one of the two new survivors introduced herself as Catherine, supporting a guy that seemed barely conscious, if at all. She glanced over at Jenna, wondering what the quiet redhead thought of the newcomers then glanced back at Catherine and the man. She joined the woman in helping to support the man after grabbing what bags she could in addition to her own, then started leading them to join her brother at the house he was headed towards. Luckily, they weren't too far behind."Nice to meet you Catherine. I'm Maya, the redhead is Jenna, and those two guys are Paulo and Dallas. That guy who just grabbed the little girl is Hank and we're going to join him at what I presume is a relatively safe house." She grimaced as more walkers exited the woods, making sure to keep her foot steps silents and her words low. The shovel was in her free hand, and she didn't check to see if the others were following, knowing that they should all have enough common sense to join them.

Dallas Lee Tucker

Dallas mumbled something along the lines of 'don't mention it' as Paulo thanked him. At least the other man hadn't pushed him away, that was a plus. And the hand holding seemed to settle that little knot of doubt in his chest. Things would be okay. No matter what he'd be alright. Paulo was there, and he'd protect him from anyone and anything that threatend him. And that there made him realize what kind of person he had to be from now on. No room for fear anymore.

At the sound of gunshots he gave a little curse. "What the hell're they doing? Gonna get the attention of every dead head within a mile like that." There was no reason to argue with them, as much as he wanted to, as the damage was already done. There were more walkers showing up even now, and he cursed lightly under his breath. What the hell was going on? As they got closer to the group he could see that there were two other new people. Great. More mouths to feed, even more of a reason to find a farm.

It looked as if they had found a safe house, however, so maybe they could hole up and wait for the dead to leave. "Ah, hell. Go with them, I gotta go back." In his haste he had left his duffel bags in the house they'd been searching. There was food in that they would need to wait this out. Letting go of Paulo he hoisted his shovel and ran to the house. This was a mess, the entire thing was. What had been only three walkers outside was now turning into a lot of them.

Jumping the porch stairs saved him some time as he skidded around the front door and back into the kitchen. Scooping up both his duffel and the borrowed one he started back out. There was hardly any time to keep looking, they had to get to safety or risk drawing an entire mob of them. Something that was hardly any good. It took him barely a few minutes to do this, and he caught up to them again, ignoring how irritated he felt. The new survivors that had joined them would put an even harder strain on their food supplies, but maybe they'd get through. Heck, he wasn't scared. If they needed food he would willingly volunteer to get more.

Jenna Monroe

Jenna had left the house with the others, joining the rest of the group. They apparently had two new people show up, a man and a woman. She inclined her head to them in greeting as Maya spoke to them. She noticed the others were there, that Jack still looked worn from lack of food, and that they had the little girl there. Hank had grabbed her up, and seemed to be pissed off about something, but what the red-head couldn't tell. She saw the zombies heading out of the woods still. Luckily, Jenna hadn't let go of the garden fork, so if any of them got close she was ready to defend herself. She looked back over at Maya. "Yeah, let's hope it's safe." she said. That's all there was to it, was to hope, at least in her mind.
