                  xxxxI N T R O D U C T I O N

A new viral disease is discovered in 2017 by medical staff in Mexico. Shorly after it is reported that the same disease has known cases in Argentina, Austria, China, England, Jordan, New Zealand, and South Africa. Symptoms are reported to be flu like but are different and varying in severity depending on the patient, there is no consistancy between age groups or gender and appears to have no pattern. Interesting but certainly no more than a few medical scientists become interested at this point. In 2019 global news stations reported that a man in China, who was suffering from dementia, suddenly turned violent and killed five innocent people during a senseless rampage. He was shot once in the head. A few weeks later a similar incident occured in Mexico and rabies was labelled as the possible cause. Within a month more cases of unprovoked mass murders were being reported, and each time the murderer was found to be senseless and derranged during the attack. Within a few months the World Health Organization (WHO) had ruled out many possible causes and encouraged global leaders to fund more research for this disturbing health problem. By 2020 the first link between the virus discovered in 2017 and the attacks that started in 2019 is made, and before the end of the year the link has been proven, anyone who has suffered from the virus has slowly been suffering from mental deteriation, increased aggression, rabid/unprovoked hostility and eventually death. Following this disturbing discovery focus shifts to finding a cure for the newly dubbed CD-892 virus.

Leading into 2028 over half the global population has been infected with CD-892, and the infected are at varying stages of mental deterrioation. Some countries, particularily ones with low GDP, have already crumbled under the effects of the virus, no longer able to afford the care their people need and so their economies have completely collapsed. North America, now working closesly with Canada, remains the most active economically and working towards a cure. Joint military efforts keep people quarrentied, under control and deal with those that are too far gone. In the same year it comes to public attention that the National Insitute of Mental Health (NIMH) has been conducting experiments on animals to find a way to increase mental function and accuity in humans. Not a cure for the virus but a possible means of delaying the mental degredation.

By 2031 most of the global population is dead, dying or being violently slaughtered by deranged humans. America and Canda still remain the global leaders in the race to find a cure for CD-892, but things are beginning to show signs of breaking down. Following the discovery that NIMH is using animal experimentation it came to light that they are primarily using canines for their research, because the number of unwanted dogs in the world vastly increased over the last decade. This year animal rights activists launched an assault on 8 NIMH research facilities spread across Canada and North America in states close to the Canadian boarder. Their actions released nearly 2000 experimental dogs into the wilds, and close to half that number were treated with an experimental drug. That experimental drug known as Anatlen has increased the natural abilities of the NIMH dogs, most notably giving them increased intelligence, improved senses and better reflexes. Also these dogs have slightly longer lifespans, including marginally better immune systems and cell regeneration. Despite the best efforts of the NIMH employees and the government, only 10 experimental dogs were recovered. By 2035 the American and Canadian governments finally collapsed and any hope of curing CD-892 crumbled along with them.

                  xxxxP A R T : O N E

In the year 2039 human society as it was once known no longer exists. Over 98% of the global population has been killed off by the CD-892 virus, however those that remain are safe because of a genetic quirk that makes them immune, but that was discovered too late to help anyone else. Animals once again rule the world and, together with nature, they begin to take over what remains of the decaying human towns and cities. Since their escape the experimental dogs have been thriving, so now second and even third generations of enhanced canines exist in the new world. However in a large Canadian town called Nell, formerly known as Nelson in British Columbia, two separate dog packs formerly lived in peace while in close proximity. The Senki Pack resides on the outskirts of town using sparse buildings and abandoned farmland as their home. Since they have easy access to the nearby Ymir National Park they can hunt game all year round, but have more risk of running into large predators. Lacking good shelter and the varying Canadian climate can be hard on them, with winter months becoming a true grind to survive - but worth it in the end for their bountiful food resources. On the other paw, the Amaro pack take shelter within Nell town, using the abandoned buildings for shelter and insulation during the colder months. Large game infrequently comes their way and they must travel a long distance south to search for larger prey to hunt, or risk a trip through Senki territory to reach Ymir National Park. Mostly the pack relies on scavenging and small prey that have moved into the decaying ruins, but also fish from the revitalized river. Food shortages can become a real problem for the pack, but they are smart - and value the shelter of Nell above all.

Ever since the great collapse of humanity in 2035 both packs have coexisted peacefully and without quarrel, they even went as far as to trade their resources and lend a paw when the other was in dire need. However that has all changed now. Approximately five months ago the female alpha of the Amaro pack known as Keeli gave birth to a litter of three pups, despite having lost her mate just after getting pregnant. A few months later when they were old enough, and with Senki Alpha Aspen's permission, she escorted her pups through the outskirts of Senki territory to show them the edge Ymir National Park. However Keeli and her pups were attacked by a newly accepted outsider from the Senki pack, the Amaro alphaess was left unconscious but her pups were all killed. Upon hearing the news the Senki Alpha, Aspen and his mate came to the decision to track down and execute the rogue male they had wrongly accepted into their pack. Together they dragged the corpse to edge of Nell town, between the edges of the Senki and Amaro territories and attempted to explain to Keeli that they wanted no part in what the mongrel had done, and they wished the friendship between the two packs to weather the tragedy. However Keeli did blame the Senki Alphas because they had accepted the rogue male and now her pups were dead because of it - so she ordered Amaro to attack. Aspen lost his mate in the attack despite his best efforts to protect her and other Senki pack members. Now both packs are at war with each other. Keeli and the Amaro pack grieve for the lost pups and blame the Senki pack. While Aspen and the Senki pack are enraged by the death of the female alpha and other pack members, and believe they did nothing wrong to deserve such unreasonable actions from Amaro.

Now the story continues two months after the death of the Senki Alpha female. Both packs have been held back by a terrible winter storm, but now the skies are clearing and who knows what might happen...

Alpha are the primary leaders and also the most dominant dogs in the pack. Every pack will either have a pair of Alphas which are mated, or just the one Alpha who is without a mate. Alpha are in charge and their final word might as well be law. Alpha take advice from the Beta and Shaman but can also choose to ignore both, they also have the authority to overrule decisions made by both, and everyone else as well. The Alpha solely controls the decision to accept Rogues into the pack, and the decision to outcast or kill Disgraced dogs. Only they can grant permission for other dogs to have pups and choose who to promote.

Beta is the second in command and both well respected and trusted by the Alpha. Each pack has one Beta that is selected by the Alpha and then must be accepted by the pack. Primarily the Beta assists the Alpha with keeping the pack in order, and they also have the authority to punish and demote dogs to Disgraced within reason. Alphas will trust the Beta to organize the artisans or delegate commands to a Delta. For the most part the Beta is allowed to make decisions as they see fit and for the good of the pack. Although the Beta should also update and seek advise or approval from the Alpha regarding very tough decisions. In the event that the Alpha is absent or temporarily unable to perform their duties, the Beta will take charge of the pack until the Alpha returns. Because a Beta is required to be dominant they are typically selected from the Guard, but Trackers can also be picked.

Shaman is the wise adviser for the pack and very well respected by all pack members. While the Shaman have very little to do with making important decisions, the Alpha or Beta often seek advise from them. Most members of the pack will visit the Shaman when they need advise, wish to hear stories, or learn more about the pack history and culture. Shaman rarely leave their den site and when they do its usually to aid a pack member or for something cultural. During major pack and cultural events its customary to hear a short speech from the Shaman. Typically the pack Shaman tends to be an older dog which is why their knowledge is so respected, but a very mature younger dog can also be just as valuable. Also because Shaman are customarily mellow and kind in personality they are most often a former Mender, but a Tracker could also be selected.

Delta is a special title rank given to one dog who is considered the best at that particular artisan skill. Each pack can have up to three Deltas and there is one for each artisan rank, which are Delta Guard, Delta Tracker and Delta Mender. Deltas are essentially team leaders, their main role is to ensure all the dogs trained in the artisan skill they oversee are working together efficiently to meet the demands of the pack leaders. Also because a Delta is considered the best in their field they should be respected by the other dogs trained in the same skill. Deltas are also expected to oversee the training of young dogs wishing to learn their artisan skill, but do not necessarily have to be the only teacher.

Guard are dogs with the role of defending the pack from anything which could be a threat or potential threat. Besides the Alphas and Beta they are the most skilled fighters in the pack and train hard to stay that way. In addition to defending the pack they are also expected to patrol the pack territory, remark the boarders and scout for any threats in the area. While they are not specialist scouts, they are capable of picking up on the signs of enemies or predators invading the territory. Guard can also be called upon to protect individuals while they perform tasks, and they may be called to join a hunting party to help bring down large game.

In most cases they have the best senses in the pack because they have to track things down - hence their name. Trackers focus on providing food for the pack either by scavenging in the town or by hunting game as a team. They may also be expected to find other things which can be useful for pack survival, such as bedding for colder months. Trackers are also known to assist the Guard with scouting particularly elusive threats, or finding rare herbs for the pack Menders.

Primarily they treat with herbs and roots and are expected to collect these so there is enough when they are needed. While they can treat sicknesses and non-lethal wounds, Menders cannot stop broken limbs from healing wrong or repair lethal injuries. In addition to their healing duties Menders are also expected to be on standby to assist females with difficult births and newborn pups. Female Menders are often asked to provide milk and watch newborn pups in the parents absence, until the pups are old enough to be introduced to the pack.

Young dogs can become a Trainee at eighteen months, but most begin at two years so they have more time to decide what to aspire to. Training should be overseen by the Delta, but in the absence of one the Alpha, Beta or Shaman will oversee. Trainees can be taught by one or multiple mentors, and should be allowed to shadow, or assist, skilled artisans while they work. Training takes a minimum of one year and the Trainee's mentors will advise when they are ready to take their test. Performance on the test will decide if the Trainee is ready for promotion, but dogs that fail their test three times or spend longer than two years training will be made Iota instead.

However they are all expected to do what they can for the pack such as keeping an eye out for trouble, assisting the artisans with simplified tasks or pup-sitting. Some females are expected to provide milk for young pups and possibly become full time pup sitters. Former artisans are expected, if able, to tutor pups and young dogs and teach them basic skills to prepare them for choosing an artisan rank, or not.

Pack members should be willing to do anything to protect Pups as they are the future. Pups are not allowed to stray from the den site without an adult. Pups typically rely on just their parents for the first three to four weeks of their life, and possibly some help from a Mender. After that they are introduced to the pack and Iotas take over pup-sitting for the parents. Pups rely on milk from a female for up to three months and then can swap to soft or chewed meat. Older Pups are expected to begin training basic skills which they learn through play, or from an older dog, to prepare them for adulthood.

Disgraced dogs have committed a crime against another pack member, or the whole pack, that is not severe enough to get them outcasted. Dogs which have done something wrong should be reported to the pack Alphas or Beta because only they have the authority to judge the severity of a crime and how best to punish it. If the Alphas or Beta choose to demote a dog to Disgraced this means they have done something quite bad, but not so irredeemable that they cannot atone for it. Any Disgraced dog should expect to be treated poorly and even pushed around by other members of the pack. Auto hitting / pinning a Disgraced is allowed within reason.

Rogues are newcomers actively trying to join a pack, or loners scouting until they make a decision to join a pack or move on. Rogues should join a pack if they plan to stay in the area, because the pack leaders will only tolerate them trespassing for so long. Rogues can only enter the main densite when invited by a pack member, while doing so without an invitation will be seen as a threat and result in the Rogue being chased away by the pack. Rogues that wish to join a pack need to prove themselves, which can be done by sucking up or assisting with pack duties - although not all not tasks are acceptable for rogues to assist with (e.g Pup-sitting or Healing).

Pack laws are essential for pack leaders to maintain order and respect within their pack, therefore it is necessary that all dogs follow the laws of their pack. Failure to follow pack law will result in enforcement and/or punishment by the pack Alphas or the Beta, who also has the power to discipline and disgrace misbehaving dogs. That being said only the pack Alphas have the right to place additional punishments such as outcasting, execution or other extreme measures. Please bare in mind that if you wish to be a dog that constantly breaks rules and/or disrespected their pack leaders, you will have to weigh the consequences. Dogs that misbehave will be dealt with! Even highly dominant dogs should always respect their pack leaders, or face being punished. One of the most important pack laws is to respect hierarchy. Higher ranking dogs command more respect than lower ranking dogs, and to show disrespect to dog with a higher rank is asking for trouble. In this case the higher ranking dog will attempt to force the lower ranked dog into submission - in extreme cases the Alphas or Beta may even step in and assert authority over the situation and deal out punishments. The Alphas are the highest ranking dogs and therefore are the most respected, because of their status they control what goes on in the pack, so other pack members should report unusual and/or important findings to their Alphas. Dogs which wish to have special privileges such as becoming mated, breeding or promotions should seek the Alpha's permission, as only the Alpha has the authority to grant these privileges. Mating with another dog without permission or assuming a rank/role you have not been granted all come with severe punishments. That being said the Alphas will be looking for individuals who go above and beyond their normal duties when considering a dog for promotion, but this should not be taken so far as to believe an aspiring dog can do whatever they want without seeking permission. xx

Dog pack behaviour is similar to that of a wolf pack in the sense that they work together as a team, while having a set heirarchy with the Alpha pair being highest and most respected in the pack. Alphas are the leaders of the pack and together they make the important decisions regarding their pack, but that being said the Alpha Male is typically more dominant than the Alpha Female when it comes to decision making, but this is not always the case. Dogs are broken down into ranks which hold a important role to the pack, but also determine their place in the heirarchy. Higher ranking dogs will normally display more dominance, where as lower ranking dogs will be more submissive. Submission is shown to those that hold high ranks as a form of respect, a simple tucked tail, averting eyes, pinned back ears, and/or lowering their stature (belly close to the ground) are all signs of submission. These signals can also be used to show when a dog is frightened, unsure or just not very confident about something. Dogs which are more dominant will often show it by holding their head high and proud, their tail will occasionally be seen flipped high, and their ears fully erect but this may be difficult to see in some breeds. When trying to prove their dominance the dog will likely perform all these motions while also maintaining eye contact, snarling and invading personal space. Dogs which do not submit to these signals may begin a fight between the two dominant dogs. However if a high ranking dog displays dominance to a lower ranking dog and the low ranking dog does not submit this is disrespectful. High ranking dogs may force lower ranked dogs into submission by being forced to the ground and pinned there. In extreme situations the higher ranking dog may, if possible, bite or clamp their jaw over the muzzle of the lower ranked dog while it is pinned on the ground. Remember that if you are a playing a lower ranked dog and chose to disrespect a higher ranked dog you are asking for trouble - and the Alpha or Beta may even become involved and issue additional punishments. During friendly encounters dogs like to be physical when greeting one another. They will likely sniff over the other dog, usually to check where they have been and/or their health and condition - dogs can learn a lot from their sense of smell. They may also provide licks to the muzzle or simply bump their nose and/or bodies together and/or wag their tails if they are familiar with the dog they are greeting. The level of affection displayed depends on how well the dogs know each other and also their ranks. When greeting strangers, and choosing not to react with hostility, a dogs tail will frozen in posistion which can be down or erect depending on how the dog 'feels' about the stranger (refer to submission and dominance). They may also avoid physical contact, unless its aggressive contact, and thus remain visibly neutral towards the stranger. Besides all these physical indicators dogs can also express their feelings verbally (eg barks, snarls, whines etc). xx

Genetically 'Enhanced' dogs were created during experimentation by the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) prior to the collapse of humanity. Their main objective was to create and improve the drug Anatlen for humane use, while the main purpose of the drug was to improve mental acuity and raise intelligence. This was supposed to be a means of trying to outlast the degenerative symptoms of the virus CD-892. While Anatlen did not put canines on par with humans in regard to cranial power, the improvements were significant enough to give the drug promise. While the effects of Anatlen never helped the humans it does now serve to help surviving experimental dogs, and their offspring, tackle surviving without the species that created them. Anatlen also caused a number of minor side effects that were of no, or little, interest to the NIMH scientists at the time. These include a small increase in strength, agility and senses. Compared to a normal dog, of the same breed, these differences are noticeable but not excessively so. Enhanced dogs can't smash through walls, or speed past cheetahs, or locate a crumb in a landfill, but most breeds, medium and large, are on par with coyotes and small/medium wolves. In addition to those side effects NIMH thought it possible that Anatlen had very, very slightly increased cell regeneration and life span, but the results were so minor that it was considered hardly worth mentioning, or just an anomaly. However it was deemed that enhanced dogs do have slightly better immune systems and appear to heal a little faster than normal. For instance a small wound on a normal dog might take a week to fully heal, where as on a enhanced dog it would take 6 days. Lastly all these enhancements were permanent as a result of Anatlen causing genetic mutation, so the drug would not need to be regularly taken. Anatlen enhanced dogs can also pass on the mutations to their offspring.

Relationships take time to develop and dogs will typically court one another for at least a month before becoming mates. During courtship the male dog will usually become more protective and defensive of his romantic interest. He will attempt to win her over with gifts and affectionate gestures such as being playful, gentle physical contact and maybe even escorting her to isolated places (or places of her choosing). At the start of courtship females which are not interested in the advances of a male may turn hostile. Females may also show males that they are interested in them, but once the courtship starts it is usually the male that attempts to win the affections of the female, even if the female dog was the one to first show interest. Females tend to play hard to get to begin with, though this is not necessarily true in all cases. When they are willing to be courted the female will return the males dog's gestures with her own displays of affection. Instinctively females will seek a strong male to mate with so some females may be impressed by dominance displayed by male dogs, particularly if there are two males are fighting over one female. Those that are courting are often seen together and show their affection for each other in front of the entire pack, however with that being said the pair should seek the permission of the Alphas if they wish to officially become mates, else the Alphas or Beta will forcefully attempt to separate the two dogs. Breeding normally occurs between dogs which have already courted and become mates, it is highly unusual for breeding to occur between strangers. All that being said the mated couple must have permission from their pack Alphas before breeding or else they will be punished by the Alphas. Additionally their pups might also be killed if they are a threat to legitimate pups, particularly alpha pups, or they may be raised by the pack without the parent's input. Breeding will only occur during the breeding season. Also during the breeding season male dogs will become more aggressive towards other males, and more protective of their mates or courtship interest. Female dogs give birth after nine weeks, but for the roleplay they can give birth after one month has gone by in real life time. For pups whose parents are two different breeds they can look more like one breed than the other, they can even look like a pure breed (to make it easier for roleplayers to find pictures). Normal and Enhanced dogs can breed but their pups will turn out either normal or enhanced. Because of the nature of Anatlen and the genetic mutations, the pups will either be one or the other, they cannot have half enhanced and half normal genes. So the presence of Anatlen's genetic mutations can never be diluted down. It is also possible for a litter to have a mixture of enhanced and normal pups. xx

Enhanced dogs created the Amaro pack in the town of Nelson long before the final breath of humanity was passed. In fact the very first enhanced dogs moved into Nelson before the town was even completely abandoned. This was due to the fact that one of the drug testing facilities owned by the National Institute for Mental Health lies five miles south of Nelson. Today the ruins of the facility are still standing but Amaro tend to avoid the ruins, because most remember where their ancestors came from and there are some superstitions about the place. Amaro have always highly valued the town of Nelson for its shelter and security and once the town fully belonged to them it was renamed Nell. Pack members have the option of selecting their own personal space within various abandoned buildings but they can also take shelter with the rest of the pack within a large warehouse. Typically in the winter the whole pack will gather in the warehouse where it is warmer, but they also have access to old human comforts such as sheets and blankets which can be used for bedding and insulation. Although they cannot tell time (not like humans could) the old clock tower in the town still works as it is fitted with a solar powered relay, and so its chimes have become a part of everyday life for the Amaro pack. The loudest chimes occur every six hours and start at midnight so these chimes help tell the pack when it is time to begin work and when it is time for rest. Amaro territory is the easiest to defend from enemies and predators but it also has fewer opportunities for large prey. They still rely a lot on scavenging, but also on the small animals and fish that are now abundant in the town. Each year in the spring before and during the salmon spawn season, loads of salmon swim up the Kootenay river and Amaro will typically gorge themselves on fish during this period. There may even be fish catching related contests involved and the pack generally makes a celebration of it after lean times during the winter months. That being said Amaro should be more wary of bears wandering into the town to take advantage of the fish as well. xx

Senki pack was created by enhanced dogs while they migrated north east through the Canadian boarder shortly after being released from an American drug testing facility, close to the city of Seattle. Eventually the pack reached the outskirts of Nelson before winter set in, but because of their experience with humans in Seattle they were wary of entering Nelson, and so took shelter in the abandoned farm south of Ymir forest. Pack members, particularly the Shaman, will tell amazing stories about the great migration Senki's ancestors took to bring them to Nelson. Once upon a time another popular tale described how Senki came to realise that Amaro were living in the human town, and that while Senki was the larger pack at the time, Amaro had the defensive advantage. But rather than fight, the two packs agreed they could share the land and even work together in some aspects, but since the start of the war this story is seen as more of a joke. Within their den site in the abandoned farmland Senki dogs have very few places they can take shelter. Dogs that require isolation from the pack, particularly for breeding, tend to dig dens as wolves do around the farmland. During the winter however its customary for the whole pack to shelter in the abandoned barn for warmth, as it can get much colder for Senki than it does for Amaro. At the heart of the farm there sits an old, rusting tractor which seems to serve as the pack's main place for meeting, with the Alphas actually climbing onto the tractor to give themselves a higher station. Senki also have the advantage of being close to Ymir Forest which is full of large prey for them to hunt, but they are also in competition and fairly exposed to large predators as well. For one week in spring and autumn herds of mule deer will migrate through Senki's territory and it is customary for the pack to take advantage of this. Many hunts are planned and the week can seem almost celebratory with dogs starting games or competitions to show off hunting skills. However the pack needs to keep a sharper eye open for wolves during the migration, who will also take advantage of the migration. xx

Pack Beta is chosen by the Alphas but then their choice must be accepted by the pack, which is done during the Beta ceremony. It is important that the Alphas pick a dog they can trust to help them lead the pack, but it is also important for that dog to be accepted and respected by the majority of the pack. A Beta which is disliked by most of the pack will struggle to perform his or her duties properly, and create more problems for the Alphas to deal with. That being said it is unusual for the Alphas to pick a Beta who is majority disliked, because the Alphas will be looking for a dog who is respectable. During the ceremony the Alphas will summon the whole pack and present their choice for Beta to the pack members. Dogs that wish to accept the new Beta will lay down and place their head upon their paws as a sign of respect and submission. Where as dogs who object to the new Beta will remain standing, and if they really want to insult the Alpha's choice they will turn their back and walk away (usually while displaying dominant gestures - See Behavior). But of course this may cause problems for the disrespectful dog later on if the rest of the pack ends up supporting the new Beta. Once a Beta has been accepted a special hunt begins in honor of the new Beta, and it is the Beta who leads this hunt. At the end of the hunt the Beta gets to eat before the Alphas and everyone else. xx

Pack Shaman are chosen by the Alphas but in some respects the choice is made by the pack. Since the role of the Shaman is to give advise and support pack members, candidates for the Shaman rank are usually already well liked and respected by the whole pack. Still it is important for the Alphas to decide who would be best suited to help give advice on running the pack, because the Shaman also gives advise to the Alphas on pack decisions not just advise to pack members for personal issues. For this role the Shaman must be wise, knowledgeable and calm under pressure since their composure can be critical during heated and/or emotion situations. That being said it is still tradtional for the Alphas to summon the whole pack together, present the candidate and then ask the pack to decide if they will support the choice - even though it is highly unlikely the majority of the pack will disagree with the choice. Dogs that wish to support the choice will lay down with their head upon their paws to respect the new Shaman, while any dogs that disagree will remain standing or turn their back and walk away (same as the Beta Ceremony). Once a new Shaman has been picked the pack will hunt in the Shaman's honor and he or she gets to eat before the Alphas and everyone else. When pups are born they spend their first month in isolation with only their parents, and a mender if the parents asked one to assist them. Once pups have reached one month old the rest of the pack will gather throughout the day outside the parent's den or isolated location. The parents will introduce their pups to the pack members, and Iotas may offer their help to the parents, particularly parents who also have artisan duties, to assist them with raising the new pups. Often gifts are brought to honor the parents and their pups, this is especially true for alpha pups. Pup ceremonies are a big deal to the pack because pups are extremely valuable for the continuation of the pack, but activities can be considered subdued compared to other celebrations and this is simply because of the age and vulnerability of the pups. Any activities usually stay within the main den site and the most common activities are for pack members, or the Shaman, to tell stories to the pups or for games to be played.xx

When young dogs reach eighteen months of age they are physically fully grown and matured, even if their attitudes say otherwise. At this age young dogs are expected to begin considering how they will benefit their pack in the future. As laziness is generally not tolerated in pack life. Young adults will be expected to visit the pack Deltas, or the pack Alphas if there is no Delta for a particular Artisan rank, in order to help them gauge which rank they are both suited for and interested in. That being said it is also possible that a young dog will be recommended to simply become an Iota, either because they will make a good pup sitter or because they physically unfit for any Artisan rank (e.g Birth defects, illness, size). However that being said some dogs may choose not to even bother trying to aspire to anything and this is viewed as being lazy and frowned upon. Once a young dog has chosen an Artisan rank they want to aspire to they may become a trainee. It is not unusual for young dogs to take a full six months, until their second birthday, to decide. It is also not unusual for Deltas (or the Alphas) to make an eager dog wait until their second birthday before becoming a trainee, especially if they still have some puppy immaturity in them. xx

Trainees must have at least one year of training and their mentor's confidence before they are ready to take their Trainee test. Each Artisan skill has a different test, but every test will be observed by the Leaders and Delta (if there is one). Trainee Guard are tested for their skill, courage and fortitude, and this is done by challenging either Alpha or the Beta to a sparring match. Once the Trainee Guard has selected their opponent, the two dogs will go three rounds (three rolls each) while the others watch. The Trainee does not have to win the match, but winning does lead to some bragging rights, the Trainee just needs to watch that victory doesn't go to their head because a poor attitude can cause them to fail the test. Trainee Trackers are tested on skill, speed and confidence in their instincts. Prior to the day of their test, which is kept secret from the Trainee, a member of the pack will hide with the Delta Tracker's, or Alpha's, help and leave as little trail as possible. Then the Trainee is informed of the test and they get to choose either Alpha, or the Beta, to be their second. Once they have made their choice it is up to them to lead, while the Alpha or Beta will assist, or hinder. First the Trainee must work out which pack member is missing and then they must track and find that pack member. Their second may be feeding them false or truthful information and it is up to the Trainee to work it out which, and trust their instincts and not feel intimidated by their second. Trainee Menders are tested on skill, knowledge and composure and this is done by a Mender, or several Menders, presenting three separate scenarios which they will act out, or verbally state what their symptoms are. It is then up to the Trainee to diagnose each scenario, find the correct herbs that would be used to treat the problem, (they must go out and find the herbs themselves, not get them from the Mender's store), and pretend to treat the problem or explain how they would treat the problem. Of the three Trainee exams this is possibly the hardest test, but with good reason. xx

The airport is located near the dense treeline that divides the land from the Kootenay river. The airport is overgrown and many of the dogs believe this place to be haunted. The wide open runways are eerie and aren't safe for dogs as some predators lurk the area. Most of the area has turned into a swamp scene due to the river sometimes flooding. The airport control center and building are off limits due to the superstitions that the airport is haunted. There are two planes grounded, and stairs opened for access inside, but again none dare to venture around this area.

The Kootenay river divides the small town the pack live in with large open land that were once known as national parks. The first stretch of the river is calm and slow moving [near the airport] but half way along the side of the Lakeside Park, the river turns into vicious rapids that if caught in, could kill you. The river is fully populated with fish as no population is around to stop their breeding and species.

Senki Territory stretches from Ymir forest, and slighting into the city. Their territory is mostly forest and open farmland. It is perfect for hunting but the weather does affect them because of the unstable building they live in. The main barn is where the pack sleeps. The small house near the barn, is where the Alpha and whom he invites sleeps. There are some abandoned cars around the barn where dogs can sleep if they want privacy.

Ymir forest divides the outskirts of the city and the large forest national park area. Most predators lurk into this forest as they come from the national park outside it. Prey also can be found in the dense forest. It is very easy for dogs to get lost within this forest, like the airport some believe that this forest is haunted.

Amaro territory expands all over the city. Their main home is a large warehouse will many floors. It is large enough for the entire pack to sleep inside. It is also better insulated which keeps the pack slightly warmer then those in the barn in Senki.

Nelson is the city where the packs live. Inside most of the buildings are turning to ruins. The gas station is a place where dogs can go to get some alone time. It isn't far from the warehouse and the cars around it make for a comfy spot to sleep in the summer. The houses around nelson are all boarded up. They are rarely used by the dogs, however Senki can use this as advantage during the winter to hide in. The Art Gallery is where the pup sitters will sometimes take the pups on an adventure. The pictures and artwork still in tact is a great way to bring creativity to the mind of the dogs. The Grocery store is where the Amaro pack and still find some food. They have limited their resources there, and the menders can find herbs and other remedies inside that will help them heal. The small park is located in the middle of Nelson. It is another frequent location where pups are taken to train their strength and ability by climbing on difficult structures. The park is also fairly overgrown.

Lakeside once was home to many trails but now is overgrown and a vast land. It is almost like a forest but has many clearings. Deer and rabbit can be found here, but again it is easy for dogs to lose navigation within the park.

                          Please Note:
Rolling a 'Critical Hit' does not give anyone permission to seriously maim, brutalize, permanently damage and/or kill your opponent, unless you have gained the permission of the person you are roleplaying with. Significant flesh wounds that cause serious pain and/or temporary impairment are acceptable. Those who receive wounds to their character should be fair and realistic about it. Additionally please be mindful of the breed you are playing. For this roleplay we have decided that playing a powerful large breed will net no additional perks when fighting other dogs, because the amount of damage you can do with these numbers has been capped (see above) anyway, so the true potential of those breeds will rarely come into play unless permission has been granted. However for the interest of realism if you are playing a small dog that is fighting against a medium - large dog be aware that your hits against them, especially criticals, will not inflict as much damage as their criticals to you. We wanted to keep things as simple as possible with these numbers and hope people can be realistic and fair with their rolls, otherwise we might have to bring in a more complex system to improve fairness. If you feel that someone has misused the fighting system (eg God Modding), please contact Misthral or Breathe Disaster via PM. We shall review the posts and see if action is needed.

                          ALPHA AND BETA
                            Roll 1-3
                          1 - Miss • 2 - Hit • 3 - Critical Hit / Pin

                          GUARD AND DELTA GUARD
                            Roll 1-4
                          1 - Miss • 2 - Light Hit • 3 - Hit • 4 - Critical Hit

                          EVERYONE ELSE
                            Roll 1-5
                          1 - Miss • 2 - Miss • 3 - Light Hit • 4 - Hit • 5 - Critical Hit

                  xxxxH U N T I N G

                          Please Note:
We decided for this roleplay not to use a complex system to keep this as simple and enjoyable as possible, but please be mindful of the breed you are playing and keep your posts as fair and realistic as possible, else a more complex system might be introduced in the future. Playing a large, powerful breed will net no additional perks in regards to the hunting numbers, but you may express their size and strength in your post. However if you are playing a small dog that is hunting prey with health points equal to or greater than 45 points your rolls will do half damage. So whatever the outcome of your roll, you do half the damage to the nearest whole number (eg ½ 25 = 13, ½ 5 = 3).

                          FINDING PREY
                            Roll 1-2 1 - No Prey Found • 2 - Prey found
These numbers should be used when hunting prey with health points equal to or greater than 45 points.
First to roll is always the Leader of the hunting party.
Should they fail then additional rolls can be made by other members of the hunting party, but there is a limit on the number of times the hunting party can roll before their hunt is declared a failure:
During Winter = Maximum of 2 rolls per hunt.
Other Seasons = Maximum of 4 rolls per hunt.

                          ALPHA AND BETA
                            Roll 1-3
                          1 - Miss (0) • 2 - Hit (20) • 3 - Critical Hit (30)

                          TRACKER AND DELTA TRACKER
                            Roll 1-4
                          1 - Miss (0) • 2 - Light Hit (10) • 3 - Hit (20) • 4 - Critical Hit (25)

                          EVERYONE ELSE
                            Roll 1-5
                          1 - Injure Yourself (0) • 2 - Miss (0) • 3 - Light Hit (5) • 4 - Hit (15) • 5 - Critical Hit (20)

                          SOLO HUNTING
The above hunting system should be used for all prey that requires two or more dogs.
Rolling is not required for solo hunting, but please be mindful of the skill and size of your dog.
You may only catch a maximum of two solo prey per post. Be realistic and do not abuse this. Just because solo prey can be caught without pack members to help you doesn't mean they are stupid easy to catch.

Years ago, Cashile Valley was one of the most abundant and desired territories. Its beauty was unmatched. It was perfect. However, a single curse uttered by the pack's blind shaman changed everything. Wrongfully murdered by his alphas, Malachi, overcome by evil intention, punished the wolves and wildlife of the valley by plunging the gorgeous land into a dense, endless fog. Now, the new alpha female, Artemis, is desperate to lift the malady that has affected the Cashile pack for ages. She is the first alpha since Malachi's time to possess the Sense, an ability to receive prophecies from the gods, and many older wolves see this as a good omen. But strange things are beginning to happen in Cashile Valley, and each wolf's strength and endurance will be put to the test. In a land where fog already obscures everything, truly nothing is as it seems.

A day that was like many others for man, the cats and dogs of the town could feel an odd trembling of the earth, and were uneasy. The cats, like the proud species they were tried to hide, to run to even warn their humans of the coming danger. But the two legged creatures did not know what was happening until it was upon them. The earth shook, trembled under both paws and feet. Buildings crumbled, and the near by nuclear plant exploded. Many humans died, dogs and cats alike were trapped or left without their human companions. The wild dogs, and alley cats stood a chance against this evacuating city. But many pampered pets were left behind as humans fled for their lives. Many a kitten and cat were left to fend for themselves, or trapped within a broken house. Some of the alley cats took pity on the house cats and went to their aid, others left them behind to die. Now months after the destruction of their home town, the cats are still trying to live with one another. They have formed their clowders, One of house cats still trying to live the life they had before this grave event ended their pampered lives. And then the alley cats, ones that grew up on the streets and thus understand the ways of the cruel world.
