Anger is like fire. . .
It burns it all clean
It burns it all clean
Dezra Reiloch
Dezra hadn’t even spoken to them yet. She had been waiting to see what the warrior – or so she assumed by her bucket o’ metal – would have to say after she had brought up the previous expedition. She had heard a number of things on the matter during her long, tedious talks with the elders, and all of them seemed to have a better idea of how they could have handled it, and liked to explain to her how they had failed. She had put up with it over the last month only because she had an ulterior motive, which had in the end proven to be futile. The level of respect she had seen for those who had lost their lives had so far been negligible, partially because they had attempted to keep the failure as quiet as possible. They hadn’t succeeded, but they hadn’t made any formal announcements or commendations for those who had passed even when the news had gotten out. Dezra had gotten so used to it that she was prepared for more of the same, and this time she intended to be more forward in her response.
And yet already someone was stepping in to defend the woman before she’d even had the opportunity to begin. The earth elemental drew her attention away from the warrior, and as he spoke she took a little extra time to size him up. He seemed a little withered and worn – certainly not a pretty sight to behold. However, he seemed to know what he was talking about and spoke with authority. From what she could tell, he did not stand for insubordination. Under normal circumstances, this would have been something which would have garnered greater respect from her. He had stepped in the middle of an affair that he did not belong in, though, and at least for the time being it left a negative impression on the woman.
Throwing her powers around? His statement drew her awareness to the heat spike around her and she attempted to extinguish it, but there was no change to her expression as she did so, nothing to suggest that she had done so on command nor that she was apologetic about it. Alright, so she’d been a little more upset than usual today, and her innate response had been to literally let off a heat. She felt no remorse for it in regards to the discomfort it had caused the others; she was only disappointed in herself for the outburst, and even that was something so minor that she didn’t mull over it longer than a second or two. No, this self-righteous p***k had the nerve to call her out before she’d even had the opportunity to do anything, and that was the major problem here. How rude!
“If I had meant her harm, do you think I would have waited?” she snarled at the man, her gaze cold and steady. “Perhaps you should put in a little thought before you go off trying to be the gallant defender. The next time you decide to step in, make sure that you know what you’re dealing with – and that it’s actually necessary.”
Dezra glanced briefly over towards the second warrior who had spoken up in defense of the elders. Her head tilted slightly as she looked the woman over. She noted the burns on her skin, and the – was that fear? – in her as she looked to the guardian before she tried to step in. At least the earth elemental had been sure of himself when he had taken a stand, albeit for the wrong reasons. This one, on the other hand, was trying to get the other woman to backtrack on her statements about the elders, and with an obvious discomfort, by the way she was holding her sword. “You think this is about them,” Dezra said slowly. It was an amusing realization, the idea that anyone would think that Dezra might be upset in defense of those old cooks. “Those old bats can rot, for all I care. You can even tell them I said so, if you’d like. I’ve said it to them myself, on multiple occasions in fact.” The strangest little grin drew at the corner of Dezra’s lips as she finished, a devilish little dare for the silly girl to try.
And then, at last, she addressed the red-clad warrior who had started this mess to begin with. “Now, what should you expect? Goodness, you’re so eager..” Dezra took a couple of steps closer to the woman, though there was still quite some distance between the two. Her arms unfolded, and her hands moved to clasp behind her back. She looked momentarily over towards Masao, considering exactly what she should share. She really didn’t want to delve too far into it – it was an unpleasant discussion. She also had to be cautious as she didn’t want to scare her, nor did she want to make light of the situation, She was looking to Masao to see if she could read from his expression what his take on it was. “Well, why don’t we start with what you think you know, and we can correct you from there.”
