capricorn of the cardinal signsxxxxxxxxxxxxxx[illusions & water]
A soft, slightly irritated sigh escaped pink lips.
“I‘m going to have a beard by the time you‘re done with that cigarette.”
“Even if I wus ‘ere for a year you still wouldn’t be able ter grow one, Aspen.”
[******** you.”
A flash of those two tatted fingers and a ‘right back at you’ were all Aspen got in response before his older friend went back to puffing away on that cigarette. Normally, he wouldn’t mind hanging out with Sebastian while the other had a smoke. He actually found the smell a bit addicting and calming even though he didn’t smoke himself. But today he was itching for that blasted thing to be finished so the two of them could head on inside and see what awaited them. Even since that fateful day when he was approached with an offer to join this exclusive academy, the excitement had been slowly building and now it was about to burst from the seams. The grounds already seemed so much more luxurious than the small two room apartment he had shared with Seb back in the cities. He wanted to see what the inside of these buildings looked like and even more, his room. When he had read that his dorm would be on the first floor and near his friend’s, he had let out a whoop of joy. The closer to the ground he was, the better he was. Heights were not a friend of his and being near the pierced male next to him was never a bad thing either. Sure the other could get on his last nerves but people who meant a lot to you did that.
The other thing he was impatient to see was what sort of powers everyone else would have. He wasn’t that excited to actually meet the other students; no, meeting new people was more something that got his friend all worked up. But seeing what the others could do? That he was actually looking forward to. Aspen’s slender digits worked and worked at the edges of his sweater – a terrible habit of his when something was on his mind – as the thoughts ran through his head. Would the others have really impressive powers like breathing fire or reading minds? Or would it be lame things like ‘I can move this pencil two inches to the left’ or turning into a puddle of water? Maybe someone could turn people into stone just with their gaze like Medusa! He really had no idea what to expect so his imagination ran a little wild in the meantime.
“Okay let’s go.” the deep voice pulled him out of his thoughts as lilac eyes glanced over to see that Sebastian was done with his cigarette. Finally! His fingers were going to go numb if he had to wait any longer. The capricorn picked up the few bags he had, slung them over his shoulders, and the two made their way inside. The place was rather large and obviously well kept. Right away, his gaze zeroed in a simple lady sitting behind a front desk and waiting for anybody who needed help. Aspen pulled his gaze away and brushed right past her though. They could easily find their rooms their selves and didn’t need help especially not from some gosh forsaken woman. The two of them made their way down the halls, Aspen looking for their rooms and Sebastian preoccupied with looking at all the artwork on the wall. Before he knew, they were there and he stopped right in front of what would soon be, or technically already was, Seb’s room. He couldn’t help but laugh as his friend always ran right into him but thankfully stopped in time. That’s what the artistic fellow got for not paying attention. “This should be your room, Seb,” he informed the other with a nod to the door. “Where’s your room?” he heard the multicolored hair male reply, detecting the sense of worry in those few words. They were so used to living with each other now and it was odd and a bit frightening to be separated like this. Even though they were just across the hall from each other! Aspen remind himself of this little fact and knew that they’d be fine. “I’m right across the hall from you so stop your worrying. Let’s unpack a few things and meet in a hour to go explore the grounds. Alright?” he said reassuringly. He waited until Sebastian had entered his room before turning and heading into his own
---------
An hour later and somehow, the brunette had managed to unpack majority of his things. There were a few miscellaneous things to put away but those could wait. Pictures of his friends and family and Sebastian’s mural that he had painted for him last Christmas were hung on the walls, his bed was adored with way too many pillows and blankets just the way he liked it, his clothes were hung in the closet, and a bookcase was filled with books. The room was already looking more inviting and lived in. Aspen pulled his sweater away from him, feeling the sweat that clung to him from working so hard and so quickly. He decided that a shower was a good idea and heading into the bathroom that adjoined his room.
Fifteen minutes later and he was out, already dressed in a fresh set of clothes. During the shower, he had sworn that he had heard a light knocking sound but figured it had just been his imagination. Now he was wondering if it had been Sebastian though as he looked at the clock and realized he was running a little late to meeting up with his friend. He headed out of his room and over to Seb’s. He knocked on the door a few times and even called out but the other must’ve ran off to go exploring without him. Slender shoulders shrugged as it wasn’t that big of a deal and he headed down the hall to explore on his own.
There was a faint smell of something smoking but there was no way in hell that Aspen was going to go find out the cause of it. If some pyromaniac felt like burning the building on their first day then he certainly wasn’t going to track them down and try to convince them otherwise. He had better things to do! As he wandered a bit, he wasn’t really sure where he was going but figured he’d check out the first floor first and then head to the second floor and so forth. He had already walked by the rooms and the front entrance so he decided to look for the kitchen next. That way, he’d know the place that he needed to avoid throughout his stay. He had gone up two pounds since he was last on the scale. It was getting ridiculous! Two pounds seemed like nothing but on his body it showed…a lot. Pretty soon, people were going to start asking when he was expecting by how round his stomach was becoming. He just needed to lose those two pounds and then it would look better. He told himself he’d pick up on the eating then since Seb was really starting to get after him lately.
A few more twists and turns and he headed to a door that looked like it held the kitchen behind it. One push of the door though and nope, this was the library. He let out another sigh of frustration because really how big could this place be? The building was only supposed to hold the dormitories. He was about to turn around and start his search again when another whiff of smoke hit his nose. Was the pyromaniac in here? Great, just his luck. Aspen figured he might as well deal with this person now especially if they were in the library. As a lover of literature, he just couldn’t let these books be burned to the ground. He didn’t have to wander too far through the aisles before he came across two strangers. He could only see parts of them through the bookcase that still separated them but the one part that he did see of one of them tripping, cutting his hand on a loose nail, and then that wound simply healing itself in a matter of seconds was enough to make his jaw drop a little. Even though he knew others would have powers, he was still in shock at seeing that, enough that he didn’t hear what the two were talking about. His feet move on their own and he stepped out from behind the bookcase. “Holy crap! Your power is that you can heal yourself? Why didn’t I get something useful like that?” he asked the one with silver hair before he could stop the words from spilling out and realize that he was interrupting a bit here. “What can you do?” Aspen asked the one smoking a cigarette, still not aware that he probably shouldn’t be so upfront right now and should be introducing himself instead. Being around Seb for too much did this to him. Fortunately, it was only a matter of seconds though before a soft blush formed on his cheeks and he said, “Sorry that was a bit rude. I’m Aspen.”
