Basics
Now these are not the werewolves of fantasy and smut books, where the man or woman turns into a large wolf on all fours and are typically beautiful creatures in both human and wolf forms. NO in their human forms Weres are quite attractive to look at, if you like the strong large type. Even their women are robust and larger than life. (think Amazons) However when they change it is not a pretty easy picture. They are half man, half wolf creature. The head, tail, and claws of a wolf, but the body of a furred man standing painfully upright.
The moon is not what calls the wolf beast, but instinct and need. They can change at will but with each change they grow closer to the madness of the beast, and less control of their human minds. The change is incredibly painful, should one be watching you can see the bones breaking before reforming themselves to a new shape. Wolves are made two ways, through birth or through bite. Bite is rare as most die from the change. There are both male and female wolves HOWEVER it is a male heavy population as females are less likely than males to survive a bite and their gene pool is very male heavy making giving birth to a female a rare treat. Were's can breed with humans or other weres to produce offspring, however should they breed with a human they always produce male offspring.
Wolves are pack oriented, much like their wolf cousins. They have an alpha leader and a strict hierarchy. This is why they dont just kill each other right away, but wait until the madness takes over a were before putting them down. This is seen as an act of mercy not murder, as no wolf wants to be a slave to instinct that kills anything in sight.
With a Fae bond
Upon forming a bond with a fae, the wild magic that ties them together tames the wild madness in the weres mind making them able to control their beat half easily and with great power. However should their bonded be in danger they go into a deeper madness than before, a kind of berserk rage that only their bonded healthy and well can calm. Due to this should a fae die violently while bonded, the were never lives long after needing to be put down quickly.
Fae and Weres can breed, however it is a toss up what the child will be.. If they produce a female child is will always be werewolf. If they produce a male child it will always be fae.. They will appear full blood in all abilities, not half no one can explain why this occurs but just accept it as the wild magic that bonds the parents. (Weres born of a were and fae pairing still have the madness they must fight)
Not all weres agree with the fae bonds. There are a few that believe letting their kind bond and breed with the fae dilutes their blood and makes them weak.
