Alessandra "Lessa" Fiori

Lessa sat on top of a rooftop that overlooked the house of Gahariet the second oldest. She sat with her legs crossed over each other and her hands in front of her. A deep purple aura formed around her as she meditated with the spirits around her. Her eyes were closed as her dark hair fell over the right side of her face. A slow rain fell over the seaside village. Her hood saved her face from the wet. Little droplets stuck to her legs as she stayed in meditation. The rain was soothing. The spirits were calming down around her. She heard the patter of wings coming towards her. She held out her left hand. The crow landed on her hand. Her right hand reached up to pet it gently then took the note from its claw. She opened it with the same hand and read it. She gave the crow a treat before bouncing her hand letting it fly off.

Lessa ripped up the paper and let the rain soak it. It disintegrated in her hands. She looked up at the rain before standing to a full stand over the village. She jumped from the rooftop on to the stone wall that surrounded the village. She hopped over and climbed down the slippery rock face. She made her way towards the house of the second oldest. She needed only Intel at the moment. She just needed any information on military strategy or weaponry they might be using. She hopped down the rest of the right, moving in to the shadows behind the buildings. She held herself against the wall as villagers passed by. She crept towards the main house. She worked her way around the garden. She hopped up pulling herself on to the pedestal-like column that connected the sharp fence around the garden.

Her small frame fit on it easily, as she hopped of in to the dark garden with a tumble. The trees of the garden gave perfect coverage from the guards on patrol. She made her way to the ivy trellis. She was lightweight so it held sturdy. She climbed the wet wood up before grabbing the gold trimmed railing of the second floor balcony. She placed a foot on the balcony and hefted her legs over the railing. She pressed against the wall as more people passed. She would have to use caution now as there were bound to be more protection inside. She stepped in the hall moving along the carpet to avoid wet footprints. She made her way towards where the note said the study should be. She ducked in to a side closet as someone came down the hall. The petite figure moved with in the shadows over to the door where she pulled out a pick. She whispered a few words before blowing air across it and pushing it in the lock. Pulling the pick back she looked in the keyhole. Happy that she sensed no one in the room, she pressed the door open, closing it behind her. The fireplace was lit and danced off the water drops on her pale skin. It danced over the bright colors of her dragon tattoo.

Heavy curtains blocked what little sunlight managed to peak through the heavy rainclouds scattered across the great valley. Rain poured in sporadic waves, beating heavily against the large windows one moment, before falling quiet only to resume its pounding moments later. Not that the lump inside the room noticed any of this as it lay curled hidden beneath warm silk blankets, surrounded by large velvet curtains draped over a magnificent (if needlessly large) bed. Save for the rhythmic movement proving that the lump was indeed living and breathing, nothing stirred in the large extravagant room. Though to be honest, it didn’t quite look as extravagant as it did only months before when its current occupant first moved in. Now, there were stacks of books littered across nearly every available surface; desks, tops of armoires, chairs, sofas, and of course, the floor. The unmistakable smell of old text permeated the air, leaving a rather stale quality to it.

                                  Bang!

A sudden burst of fresh air breathes through the room as the large doors leading to the sitting room slam open. The lump on the bed barely stirs as a plump, heavily bearded man sweeps into the room gracefully, despite his size and various layers of finery. A large raven embroidered across his back signify his position as a royal advisor to the youngest son of the kingdom, along with the signet ring gleaming on his pinky as he makes a beeline for the large windows. Brushing open the curtains, he allows the feeble light into the room before moving towards the lump with the same self-satisfied and righteous air.

“Your Highness! It is already past noon! You have missed your morning lessons already; I will not allow you to miss this afternoon’s strategy meeting. Don’t you want to plan your next epic battle?”
Tobias Cuthbert’s voice slides from its initial reprimand to a sly coaxing purr as he reaches out to tug at the heavy blankets. Having known Rowan for all of the young man’s life, he knows the best way to coax the sometimes difficult young man into doing what he wants; appeal to his sense of intelligence, curiousity and need to tackle any and all difficult problems.

And as expected, the lump begins to stir as a small head of raven locks appear first, followed by a set of bleary grey orbs. The usually highly alert gaze is dulled by sleep, and rimmed red with a lack of it. Glancing around slowly, Rowan blinks once, twice... three times, before smothering a large yawn. Rubbing his eyes on the sleeves of his dark purple silk night shirt, he pulls himself up slowly. It takes a moment for the boy to connect the form staring back at him with patronizing patience, to the man he has known all his life as his high advisor. Who, having succeeded in his task of waking the young prince, claps his hands smartly, summoning the entourage of maids waiting just outside the door. In a flurry of black and white, efficient hands, and practiced ease, the group of four maids sweep into the room to begin the task of preparing Rowan for the day (or what is left of it). Satisfied, Tobias leaves the maids to their work as he retreats back to the meeting hall to prep the other advisors before the strategy meeting. There was much plotting to be done, and preparations needed when dealing with the youngest heir. Young though Rowan may be, his keen intelligence and eye for detail often made him rather difficult to fool… though one would never expect that to be the case if they were privy to the scene currently unfolding in the young man’s room; eyes still half closed, barely vertical, and being manipulated by various hands like a mannequin on strings.

Ebon walked the halls. He'd been given new instructions by one of his side jobs and he'd be in for a week of backtracking at least. He walked briskly through the corridors.

Slippery eel of a man! I know he's good for the payment, but Gods above, he will pay for this!

He continued to seethe as he passed his sovereign's study. He was broken from his musing as he heard the quiet splish of pooled water on hard wood underfoot. He stopped.

He inspected the floor and followed the minute traces of water he could find to a door. He pushed the door open.

Kira hated the rain, it was dismal and terrible for business. No one wanted to come to the marketplace in the rain. With a soft sigh, she peered outside her tent in hopes of catching some sort of glimpse of a possible customers. She sighed again, a deeper, more hopeless sigh as she noted not a single person was in the square. Kira moved from the entrance to the back of her tent where she lounged empathetically, speaking a soft curse word to herself.

The war had both helped and hindered her job. She had gotten more customers but it had drained her, seeing her customer's death at the hand of the enemy. Most, she hadn't the heart to tell them. Instead, she faked ill or fog or minature disaster, anything to avoid the unfortunate news. Sometimes she hated her 'sight'. It gave her information she did not want to know and led her in a wretched circle half the time.

She brought the small gold teacup to her lips and drank the warm tea water. It soothed her, warming her from her chest down until she finally found the quiet time to be relaxing. Just as quickly as that time came, it went and she felt her mind jerked to that of a shadow, the figure appeared to be searching for something, there was a fireplace, a foreboding feeling, they were looking yet hiding. Was the pictures that moved so quickly, that of the house of Gahariet?! Her hand set the tea cup down and she stood up, reaching for her lavander colored cloak before heading out of her tent. It had been the first time in years that she had seen anything to do with the royal family. The first had been the start of the war.

What would she do? His guards would not let her simply waltz in there even if she claimed that he was possibly in some sort of danger. She was a well known seer but most simply spoke of her to be a fable fortune teller. Why was she moving to protect the leader though? She owed him nothing, at least not personally. The only reason her alliance was aided in his direction was because of the land he owned. Kira was practically running now as the soft rain pelted her face. Kira should have just stayed out of it, it was not her concern.

Yet she felt the sudden urge to act, to cry out and warm him. As she came to the main doors, she began to plead with the guards. "Please, I need to see to Garhariet! I have news, there is a trespasser in his home!!!" She cried out but they laughed, thinking it was merely a show. Soon, she tried to make it through the door, panic overwhelming her. It was a strange thing, her visions made her feel like she was there so it was even more difficult t sit back and watch the scenes unfold. As soon as she made a run for the gate, the guards grabbed her arms and laid her roughly on the ground. They were still laughing at her meager attempts to outdo them as she struggled. All the while still trying to warn them of the intruder.

Gahariet abruptly dropped his parchment on the desk and stood, stomping out of his study and into the hall. He need a break from his work. The rain made it much worse to stay inside though as he walked, he felt the cold and absence of his fire. His boot slipped on wet stone in the hall. "Tch!" Gahariet scowled down at the floor, side-stepping whatever someone had tracked inside, and continued onward. He went down the stairs towards the kitchens. It was on his way there, on the ground floor, that he followed the sound of laughter. A chill passed through him at the colder air there as if the doors had been briefly opened. He glimpsed the guards on duty having the time of their lives.

"What is it you are doing?" He came up behind them to see.

The guardsmen stiffened and bowed their heads. "Ah--she's nothing more than a fortune teller." He gestured to the woman they had thrown from the steps. "She claims to know of an intruder, no doubt an effort to get inside and waste Your Majesty's time and coin on her lies."

Gahariet demanded the doors to be opened. They seemed to realize their mistake, coming to strict attention as their lord went to address her. He walked out, his head and furs being sprinkled with rain.

"Where?" He asked the sopping wet woman. It was obvious the guards did not have enough intelligence to do so and he would die from their negligence in a time of war. If she did not make a satisfying enough reply, then he would leave her in the rain, and if it turned out to be a trap, he did not think it would be much of one. Gahariet stared her down for the answer.

Lessa’s extended time at the door made a small puddle at the door on the wood. Her footprints were hidden up until then. The wood floor gave away the puddled footprints. That was one reason she disliked the rain. It gave her away like snow. She hurried over to the desk where some documents lay. She flung her hands down towards the floor to get the excess water off her hands before touching the parchments. She thumbed through skimming the writing to find what she was looking for. The top of the desk was a dead end. She pulled open a drawer with no lock. The drawer was no luck either. She looked down at the locked center drawer. She pulled out the pick again. A few whispers over the thin metal and air from her lips let the pick open the lock. She pulled it open the pick still in her hand. This is what she needed she was sure of it.

Lessa pulled out the rolled parchment and rolled it open on the desk, using the paperweights to hold it open. The light was dim but she could see it was a map. She pulled a small tube from her belt where she kept spare parchment dry. She dried her hands with the inside of her short cape and opened it. The spare parchment was laid over the maps and the x’s were traced. There as shorthand notes written next to each. She rolled it up to small roll and went to the window. She opened it and sent a soft whistle out the window. A raven fluttered in sitting on the sill and shaking the water from its wings. She put out her arm and he jumped on it. She flicked open the tube on his leg and placed the scroll inside. She closed it just as the door opened.

Lessa’s pale blue almost white orbs shot up to see the shadows of a man coming in the room. She flicked her wrist up so the raven could take off and ducked behind the desk. The raven first flew at the man, giving her distraction before flying out the window. She pulled herself in the leg area of the desk. She held her hands out to the very edge of the desk. She whispered softly closing her eyes and a shadow appeared in front of her to block her body from sight beneath the desk. Her may have only been just louder then the crackle of the fire in the fireplace. She could hear as the man readjusted his outfit and began to walk about the room. She had no time the purpose of why she was hear or even that the center drawer was still open a crack. All she could do now is wait.

Kira really hated the rain and now she was disgustingly covered in mud. Not only was she covered in mud, but she was now in front of the heir. She stood up as gracefully as she could, wet, cold and dirty but her mind raced ahead of her. Fireplace, study, scroll, desk, that was really all she could make out in the vision that washed though her. Her gaze met his before she lowered it hastily.

"I saw a fireplace, still lit, roaring hot in fact. A closet, a study of sorts? I saw a beautifully designed desk, but one of the draws had been left open. Shadows, many many shadows and a raven...." The shadows clouded her vision, it was like trying to catch smoke with her bare hands. She wanted to be of further service, unsure if her description would lay light upon the true location of the intruder. Kira had never been inside the heir's estate, she had no idea how large or vast it was. Perhaps there were dozens of separate studies?

"I worry that the person either means you harm, or plans on stealing from you. They are not friendly..." Kira said quietly, wiping mid from her pale, slender face. Rain, mud, heirs, that was the one thing she had not seen coming.

Whoever the intruder was, was powerful, smart and sly. They weren't someone she had the pleasure of coming across often. Then again, standing sopping wet in front of a heir was not her usual either. A blush came to her lips as she stared at the ground again.

"Go with your men, not alone.." She stated simply. Her gaze lingered to the guards where she silently hoped they would be taken out.

Ebon was surprised at the bird's assault. He rocked back on his heels and his hand flew to his sheathed dagger. He saw no threat apparent from this crow and relaxed his grip as it flew from the dwelling.

"Filthy creature." he said aloud as he crossed the room to close the window. He scanned the room. Something felt off. His gaze settled on the desk. Some rain droplets had been blown onto the various parchments on the desktop or thrown there by the bird.

He pulled the window shut and latched it once more.

Wait a minute he thought. In an instant, his weapons were drawn and he was scanning the room.

"It would appear that a winged beast is not the only visitor to my lord's estate this evening."

He moved to the center of the room, between the desk and the door, eyes darting about the chamber, watching for even a blur of motion.

"Do you take me for a fool?" He snapped at her statement, turning to the guard who laughed at her first. "Inspect the grounds, if anything it will serve as your drill, guardsmen. Relay my order to your captain." Gahariet commanded and the man was off quickly to do just that. He would have the captain carrying out the order within the next ten minutes, unless the imbecile took the rain as an excuse like everyone else to be horrible at their jobs, then his wrath would truly be upon them.

Gahariet crooked a finger at the woman. "Inside with me, now." He led the way through the main doors and out of the rain. His furs were shrugged from his shoulders and handed off to a servant. "Escort her to a bath." He pointed to... "What is your name? Give her a warm meal as well, I'll be along shortly." A pair of guards would escort her to a room where the servants would draw a warm bath to see that mud off her. Gahariet would see if this supposed threat had any truth to it first, then he might speak with her.

He heard the clank of armor as guardsmen fresh from their breaks and training began to search his manor in extra pairs or threes. Gahariet went to his study and the work he had left behind. Walking in, he was met with the back of one of his informants. "Ebon, what are you doing in my study?" He glanced about the room. His weapons were drawn though he saw no apparent threat. Gahariet bent, picking up the blown parchments in front and to the side of his desk. Someone had opened his window, so it seemed there was truth to what the fortune teller had said.

The documents had become wet. He set them on the surface as he slid around to the other side where his drawer was left slightly ajar. A drawer he had left locked. He pulled it open, testing the lock, and finding that it had been tampered with. The surface had been recently scratched or else would someone have opened it without the key? Gahariet's gaze shifted to the darkness below. The heat blazing at his back was from the fire where it burned to warm him as he worked at the desk. There, beneath it, was far too dark even as he moved aside to let the fire illuminate what had been disturbed.

"I've already alerted the guard. Please let me know what you find." Gahariet said softly, uncharacteristically so as he moved slowly away with eyes on Ebon. He did not know if the intruder was still there or not, but he suspected magic. Rowan had often been in his studies about them and Gahariet had sometimes listened. The guards at the door would aid Ebon if he needed it. Gahariet retreated from the room to make his way back to that seer.

I take you for a smart yet very prideful man.. she thought to herself as he snapped at her her. For a moment, she paused, unable to follow his command at first. Her feet were wary, she had already inserted herself into a situation that she had no business in. Soon though, her mind caught up with the reality and she followed him in step, her eyes widening as she looked around his vast estate. Kira was no stranger to luxury but this was far past anything she had dared to experience.

Before she the servant could answer with her name, he was off and she followed the servant who seemed to know exactly where to go and what to do. She noted his air of authority seemed to fill a room. Most did not dare to disobey him, although she wondered what swift justice he dealt to have his servants and guards obey as they did. Her mind wandered back to the servant as she looked around the ornate room she had been taken too.

The servant nodded at Kira to take off her ruined garments. Kira was not shy when it came to her form and soon was ready to step into the hot bath that they had drawn. She dipped into it's depth and enjoyed the heat that pulled the cool right off her slender form. It made her forget for a moment why she was there. For a moment though, she simply listened to the sounds around her. There was no yelling, no screaming. The heir had not been assassinated. Kira worried, had her vision misled her somehow?! It had never proved wrong before.

The servants washed her, smoothing over her skin and hair until all the dirt was gone. It did not take long, she did not have time to wallow in pleasure in a hit bath in a time like this. There was still the worry that the intruder was in the castle and Kira would have to remain on alert. Soon, she stepped out and they dressed her in a beautiful, bright blue floor length gown that fit her perfectly. She sighed, perhaps this was what it was like to be a princess.

What would he do to her if he did not find the intruder, Kira gave a slight shudder at the thought but her resolve would not be broken. Someone was in this castle that did not belong.

It was not often random visions captured her attention. Usually she had to touch the person to gather as much information as she did. The vision that she did see meant it was important, drastically important

Her mind paused for a moment as she realized, what if she was right? She scolded herself. She made rules, never to reveal her true sight for fear it would be used against others in a tragic way.

The man relaxed his weapon a moment. It wasn’t until he closed the window that he redrew his weapons. He must’ve heard the whispers of the illusion spell. There was a rush of footsteps all through the house. Someone had alerted them of her presence but who. She didn’t tell anyone. She had to remain steady, hiding with in her shadow. She let the spells rush through her mind like a glossary. That was the problem with knowing so many. Just as she got the idea to make a run for the window, another presence entered the room. She took in a quiet breath and let it out, as her hands felt the pain of straining in the positions too long. It shot shooting stiff pain through her pale cold hands. She dry swallowed as the other presence spoke to Ebon, who must’ve been the guard then made his way to pick up the papers.

Instead of making a hidey-hole she gave herself a cage. The plan would’ve worked if the other weren’t drawn to the room, now it was a trap. The man walked around closing the drawer just above her. His hand very nearly touched her pinky. She held her breath as the man looked beneath the desk. The shadow protecting her from sight he seemed to know something was there. The face surprised her. It was him. HIM. The second Oldest was staring her down with out knowing it. Her forearms began to feel the burn of sustained motion. It crept up her upper arms as he spoke out loud. Then to her relief the man left. She released her arms down as the other man was still in no position to see her. It would not be long before he checked again for himself. She thought of something else.

Whispers could be heard throughout the room by the guard, as she held her hands in prayer-like fashion to her lips. They would seem to come from everywhere even with in his own mind. A purple aura covered her hands as opened her eyes. One loud motion she slammed her hands on the floor and a banshee rose through the carpeting. The deep purple essence seemed drooped at first before lurching backwards like a tree in the wind. On the swing back, it screeched loudly at the man. The air slammed the door shut. The woman stood up behind it, in the instant. Her piercing blue eyes locked with his as she lurched forward and the Banshee went straight towards the Man.

Gahariet listened to the whispers of the servant girls. They said the fortune teller was stunning in her dress. He wasted no time with them, pushing open the doors to find her in blue. It was his favorite color. "You look much better in that than mud." He stated flatly. His hand lifted to gesture to the connected room. "Accept my thanks."

The servants were finishing up setting a table for them to dine on. The food had been warmed in the kitchens. Platters of freshly caught fish and fruits for the both of them to enjoy together. They were all set in the center along with a few sweets and plenty of ale. He pulled out a chair for her. "You've brought a theft to my attention. I am grateful, though curious, how you came to know of it?" The first thing was this intruder. Ebon was handling it. He had no reason to fear anyone.

Gahariet poured her a goblet as gold as the trim in his white cloth and hair. His reddish colored gaze sought hers. Whatever she knew or could potentially tell him, he would have to get it from her. He offered it to her.

As his liege left the room, he took his gaze from the room around him and gave a nod. He then returned his attention to his search and was taken aback by the phantom before him. It seemed to stumble as it appeared and he planted his feet in preparation to strike.

Then it screamed. The piercing wail tore into his body and seemed to rip the very flesh from his bones. He fell to one knee, vision swimming, until the shriek subsided. Unsteadily, he regained his footing and quickly took in his surroundings. His eyes fell upon the small form that had materialized near the desk.

"Cursed witch!" he shouted.

The beast attacked. He barely saw the spirit move before it was upon him. He jumped at the last possible second and swiped with his rapier. He was shocked as his blade met no resistance. As he landed, the realization hit him: I've been had!

He turned his attention to the ghost's summoner and prepared for the follow-up to her clever ruse.

The dissipated as soon as it came. It was a warning spirit. She used it to strike fear or distract her challengers. Lessa was of small frame, petite and slender. She was as pale as the moon and wore the darkest of grey clothing. Her raven dark hair covered the right side of her face, as her hood outlined it. Her hands were still in prayer-like fashion as she looked upon the stirred emotions of the man. Harsh words were to follow as he called her a cursed witch. That was hitting the nail on the head. But to use it in vane, that was a no no. Her face stayed stern as her mouth moved in whispers. She spun in place and motioned as if to blow snow off her hand. Shadows filled the room, even snuffing the fire out. She took the chance now. She drew her dagger from her belt went towards the man, who was now adjusting to the rooms dim light. Only the moon’s rays peaking in would give light to the room.

Lessa hopped the desk, making her way over to the man. She swung her onyx dagger at the back of his legs. If she made contact the blood would trigger her blade to briefly go red. She slid to a stand swinging the dagger towards the man’s throat. She shuffled back a bit as some of the shadows cleared. She held her dagger so that the blade followed down her forearm. She bent at the knee and drew a second one from her boot. This one was held in the same way but had a loop on the end so she could flip it forward if necessary.

Kira turned as he entered and bowed slightly with a soft yet weary smile. At first his expression was blank, she could not immediately tell whether he had been successful in his endeavor to capture the so called intruder. As he spoke about her looking better not so covered in mud, she almost smiled before noting "Did you not know, mud is the latest trend in woman's fashion. The men in town absolutely go crazy..."

She joined him in the connecting room, her eyes widening to the vast array of food and drink. "You certainly do know how to treat a woman...it's a shame I think your heart is already taken.." She said with a soft smirk, not mentioning anything else on the matter. Kira sat gently at the table, and did not look up when he confirmed her thoughts about the intruder, there was proof of one. And then he asked her the golden question. How did she know what she knew.....

Kira watched him pour a drink, the goblet mind blowingly beautiful. She accepted the glass with a gentle nod and sipped the liquid. Pleasant.. she thought as she finally looked up to him.

"I accept all your hospitality, although I do not think it would be wise to leave you with all my secrets. Perhaps I have informants, perhaps I am a true fortune teller. What would I gain in telling you?" Kira said, licking her bottom lip, still tasting the warm liquid that seemed to warm her insides like that of the warm bath. Kira was on edge though, she was worried she had called into a metaphorical pit of snakes. He could very well strike her down if she did not watch him. As she did however, she found his gaze to pull her in, falling would be more dangerous then she knew.
