The kingdom of Bastille is one only found in story books and legends. Holding both humans and shifters, the two lived alongside one another for centuries. Humans did not mind the beast-carrying two-legged individual which in all ways looked like themselves. In fact, some of them were quite friendly and could accomplish things the normal human could not. The shifters valued the humans and the humans valued the shifters. Sure you had your nay-sayers agains the alliance of the two, but their voices were never strong enough to be heard. Castle walls rose as the royal families began to prosper, ruling over kingdoms and lands, helping to keep the economy stable and seeing over security within the villages surrounding the castle walls. The kingdom of Bastille was the most prosper of all. Being a port on the edge of the coast, they had trade constantly come in and goods going out. The city thrived and the royals only seemed to become richer. Then William Sterling the IV stepped into the light after his father passed from a Fever that swept through the kingdom, taking several lives other than the royals as well. The royal family of Sterling was a pure blood line of humans that normally got along well and oversaw the shifters within their community. The Sterling family had even worked with Shifters to build the kingdom that they currently had today, being the original founders of the land. But William Sterling IV had other plans. He was a vicious king who believed that the shifters wanted to take the throne from the real royals who had earned it and thus banished them from the kingdom. Of course not all of the species left, but chose to remain hidden or to keep their real identity secret, letting others believe they were normal humans. Little to the Sterling's knowledge, that even members of their guard were Shifters, just only so in secret.

William Sterling IV ruled until the old age of 65 when he slipped away in his sleep. Then it was his son's turn to step up to the throne. The son, a young man of 18 at the time, ruled for three years before it was finally said that he needed to find a wife. Under the jurisdiction of his mother, they set out to find a wife with blood that wasn't their own, thinking it finally time to bring in someone new instead of keeping the bloodline strictly with the family. Finally, the perfect woman was found and the son, William Sterling V, was head over heels with the princess from the kingdom across the sea, the kingdom of Alasdair, one that they did the most trade with.

Then, tragedy struck. The king had been murdered.
A week before the royal wedding, the king was found with his cut throat in his own bedchambers. But nothing was found at the scene of the crime. There wasn't a single footprint, hand print, or weapon left. Now, the only person left, as head of the family was the Sterling mother, for she had only given birth to one son during her life, the rest of her inbred children being stillborn babies. So then the crown had to be given to someone else, a cousin of the now dead king. But that cousin has a deep dark secret, one that many others also try to hide. Yet, with the growing responsibilities that he sees within his future, the anxiety is causing him to crack, getting closer and closer to revealing who he and his sister really are, shifter bastards that came from one romantic whirlwind of an affair that their mother had. Now, faced with a marriage to a human from across the sea, he's not sure if he can take all of this.

In the meantime, the kingdom is furious, now turning against the shifters and making their deaths a public mockery in retribution for their king's death. The rumors have spread straight out of the castle walls that the shifters could have been the only ones to get in and out with such a clean kill and that they were the only ones who would have wanted the king dead. Men, women, and children shifters are all killed, mostly by fear and anger driven citizens. Their will have their revenge for the Sterling family one way or another.

TLDR.//: the young king was just murdered 1 week before his royal wedding. The royal family is a bloodline of humans and they believe a shifter killed him, when it was really a rogue from the kingdom of Tythaan, angry of the taxes put on the goods exported out of Bastille. Within the last 2 generations, the shifters have been forced into hiding, being called monsters. Now, the shifters are being killed if found, trying to find some kind of repayment for supposedly killing the king. The king was supposed to be married to a lady from across the sea with Alasdair, but now the cousin will step into the position to marry her and claim the throne as king.

➸If you are someone who I know to have caused problems in other RPs, then I have every right not to accept your into this RP.

➸Use the OOC for for out of character chatting. I do not want to see conversations that have nothing to do with the roleplay within the IC thread.

➸NO OOC DRAMA. And by NO OOC DRAMA, I mean exactly that. If you have a problem with another roleplayer, then please avoid speaking to them or even having your characters interact within the roleplay. If you start drama in the OOC, or with another roleplayer, you have one warning. After that warning you will be banned from the RP. This is a VERY important rule.

POSTING
➸No God-modding. Do not godmod someone else's character and do not auto them. If something like this is going to happen in the roleplay, PM the other person in which your character is interacting and then OK it through me. When fights happen, please make sure you have sorted out how this will go with the other person before you write it and include in the ooc of your post that you were given permission to auto the other character through the fight.

➸Literacy. Each of your posts should be at least 400+ words. THIS IS NOT HARD. Please try to use correct spelling and grammar. We all slip up from time to time, but a severely repeated offense will be dealt with accordingly. If you do not believe you can type 400+ words, then this may not be the rp for you.

➸Include a picture of your character within your post layout along with their name, and what their role (if applicable) is. (If your character is a shifter, then please include at least one picture of what the animal looks like). Please try to pretty your posts up. If you cannot get ahold of a layout, then please let me, or a mod know and we can point you in the right direction to get one.

➸When your character is speaking, bold and color their speech so that it stands out within the post.

➸When mentioning another character, bold their name. This way it is easy to skim a post and see if your character was mentioned or not.

➸Please try to post at least once a week. I understand that we all have lives outside of Gaia, but asking for a post a week is not a lot. If you need to leave the roleplay for a certain amount of time, or are having troubles posting, please contact myself, or a mod to let us know and we can work it out.

➸Include everyone. Please do not CONSTANTLY RP with yourself. Find someone to interact with, especially if certain people can't find anyone else to be involved with.

➸PLOT! PLEASE plot. Please entangle your profiles with other profiles. Good backstories involving others, and future ideas really help move things along and make the story interesting. Also please run all plots by me for an okay.

➸Real pictures only and make sure that you're using pictures of the same person. Do not use a person that is already being used, and do not use a picture that someone is already currently using in the roleplay. Is it fine if your person is dressed in modern day clothes, just try not to have any type of vehicles or electronics in your pictures.

➸NO Mary-sues or Gary-sues. These are characters that are seemingly perfect. Everyone has flaws, everyone has problems, everyone has issues. Work them into your character. Make them unique and interesting.

➸If you have not posted for at least a week, on that 7th day, you will receive a PM from myself. Please see spoiler for what the PM will say.

SHIFTER FORMS
➸If you play a shifter, then you have three forms: human, were, and animal. The hardest form to get into is the were and it takes a lot of time an energy, especially if you character has never tried to shift into it before.

➸Shifting is painful. Bones move, break, and reassemble themselves while muscles tear and pull. It's nothing something that is done often and normally a shifter will want to stay in one form for a long time to avoid getting hurt again.

➸Shifters and humans are evenly matched when it comes to fighting, even in their were form. The only thing they have going for them are possibly teeth and claws. A human can be just as evenly matched with weapons.

➸The only special abilities a shifter gets is slightly enhanced hearing, smell, or sight, not all three. You will choose the 1 trait that your shifter has a keener sense of.

Bastille is a kingdom that runs along the east coast of the country. It deals mainly in sea trade, exporting and importing goods to other countries. The inland kingdoms often travel to Bastille in order to get goods for their people. It is a thriving kingdom with hard working people. Many young men become sailors for part of their life before settling down back in the kingdom to start a family. For some, it's almost a rite of passage that young men travel around the sea for at least a year to fully become a man. Humans and Shifters have always lived in peace until about two generations ago, so the Shifters and Humans hold a lot of the same traditions, values, and family morals.

The main port and largest city of Bastille is along the sea. The village winds in and out of small mountains as it travels up toward the castle, nestled safely into the mountainside. The carpenters learned to deal with the storms that came off the sea, so everything is built in a sturdy manner and able to withstand hot summers, springs storms, and winter blizzards.

- King William was king of Bastille, a large and wealthy port city that dealt mainly in trade. All the royals are human and for the last three generations, have shunned shifters. They make up the Alliance.
- King William was murdered by Retloc, a rogue under contract from the nearby kingdom of Tythaan, but no one knows yet.
- Shifters were blamed for the murder since King William had banished the shifter community and they had to go into hiding.
- King William was engaged to Lyanna Emeric, the princess of Alasdair.
- Alasdair is the kingdom from across the sea, the kingdom that does the most overseas trading with Bastille.
- Gabriel, King William's cousin is now heir to the throne, being the only male heir.
- Gabriel and his twin sister Avalon are both shifters thanks to their mother's one night stand with an unknown man.
- Gabriel and Avalon believe that their shifter curse can be broken if they try hard enough, leading to such dangerous events such as torture to rid themselves of their demons.
- The Rebellion is a group of humans and shifters who are fighting to have equality restored throughout Bastille.
- Retloc's brother, Aro is the undercover leader of the rebellion.
- Aro, a pirate captain who normally travels abroad has set Bastille in his sights to help his fellow shifters.
- Aro spoke to Retloc and learned that the kingdom of Tythaan had called the hit upon King William, believing that once the king was dead, they could force their way in and take over Bastille, thus controlling trade and taxes.
- The true reason for this take over was mainly because of Lady Sika of Tythaan, the daughter of the Prince of Tythaan, the eldest son and rightful heir to the throne of Tythaan.
- Sika is unable to sleep through the night without having episodes similar to night terrors where she can get hurt and the only cure for this is Dove's Peak, a medicine exported out of Bastille. Because of Bastille's high tax on the items, Tythaan is running out of options and had to take drastic measures.
- Aro, learning of what happened from his brother, kidnapped Lady Sika so that he could use her as leverage to gain control over Bastille himself, thus restoring peace to the broken kingdom.
- After finally get on Aro's nerves enough, Sika was allowed to go into town with one of Aro's deck hands, Sky.
- Sika was able to escape from Sky, but was picked up by Visenya Lenlain, a Courtesan of Bastille after Sika had a bad run in with the royal guards out looking for shifters.
- Sky couldn't go back to Aro empty-handed, so he went after Sika.

- Meanwhile, Avalon had stumbled upon King William's dead body the night it happened, for she had been sleeping with him in hopes of breaking the curse by becoming pregnant with a royal human's child.
- In her panic, she sought out her brother Gabriel who locked her in her room for safe keeping, for no one could know about the pairing. Little did Gabriel know that Avalon thought he blamed her for the death.
- Not understanding the pain, betrayal, and confusion, in Avalon's weak state, she shifted into her animal form and escaped from her bedroom, tearing through floorboards.
- She ended up in the catacombs beneath the castle that were no longer used, yet she was found by Retloc who had taken up residence in the dark tunnels.
- Retloc helped Avalon to calm down, but Avalon got a wild idea that if she became pregnant with any human's child that it would break the curse, and thus slept with Retloc.
- After sleeping with Retloc, Avalon realized the terrible thing she had done and became depressed. Seeing her depression, Retloc took Avalon back to the castle, but stopped on the way when Avalon asked to see the marketplace. In the marketplace, they ran into Shakari, a childhood friend of Retloc and Aro's.
- Aro finally decided to go out and look for Sky and Sika after the two had been gone so long, but knew his brother Retloc was in the city and he would be able to find them faster than himself. As he ran into Retloc, he also ran into Shakari, the woman whom he was promised to during his childhood. But after a bad meeting with her once they were both adults, Shakari now despises Aro.
- The group of four went to a tavern's backroom where they could talk privately about Retloc retrieving Sika. Shakari revealed that she was Sika's cousin and that she was sent here to retrieve the royal. Aro couldn't have Sika going back home and so paid off Retloc to make sure Sika was returned to his possession.
- Meanwhile, the four were being eavesdropped on by a soldier of the royal guard, Col.
