HELLO?
*clank, Clang!*
why is the thread dead?
sad Why, indeed...?

I went to see G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra earlier today. xp It was incredibly stupid, let's make no qualms about it, but I'd actually have to say that I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than Revenge of the Fallen (which isn't saying much, in the greater scheme of things...). lol But I still had fun with this silly little movie, in an entirely forgettable sense. razz That said, I was rather disappointed that there wasn't more of Snake Eyes, as he's easily the most interesting character in this ensemble franchise, & Ray Park appeared well below his usual athletic game (thanks to being restricted by that dumb rubber muscle suit...). stare What's more, can someone please tell me what's up with cinematic revisions these days & their apparent insistance on granting MOUTHS to animated icons of the 80's who are recognized for not having any -- first Optimus Prime, & now Snake Eyes?! eek Anywho, it amused me just how "bish" they made Storm Shadow, by comparison, but of course they went & cast an obvious Korean in the role of the Japanese super assassin (because there are no Japanese actors in the world). rolleyes Naturally, the producers followed typical Hollywood trends & cast the film entirely too young, which spoils things in my opinion, & the Snake Eyes backstory makes no sense (he's presumedly enlisted into the US armed services without uttering a single word), but you just have to accept all that on face value, it seems. rolleyes I gotta say, though, Sienna Miller is freakin' HOT as The Baroness (although she looks kinda dopey with those transition goggles she's stuck with -- give me the smokin' leather-clad babe in the wide-brimmed glasses of old any day!). cool Yeah, that woman knows how to handle herself: [LINK] wink There's even an unexpected (uncredited) cameo by Brendan Fraser as Flint (presumedly). smile But I dunno -- I was surprised that Rise of Cobra wasn't as... well... PATRIOTIC as I'd otherwise have expected it to be (if ever there was a narrative vehicle that quatifies your garden vaiety American cowboy cliché, where the world's only hope rests with the Red, White, & Blue, surely this is it!). neutral I mean, you've got a BRIT delivering the catch-cry, for crying out loud (& honestly, what the hell is Jonathan Pryce doing playing the US President...?!). stressed It seems really strange to me that they didn't recruit the services of Larry Hama to pen the screenplay to this venture, which I've no doubt would have made the end result so much more satisfying... but oh well, it's still entertaining enough, for what it is.

I think it would be a good idea if we discussed some possibilities here in this thread. So, anyone have any ideas?
I had the idea of slipstream ordering and planning a raid on some large dam in arizona, using stealth as follows:

"Sora", the actor, is directed to take up a role in filming a movie which does on-site shoots at the target dam. This gives them a infiltrator and a foot in the door.

as for the dam personnel, Slipstream has blacksight create drones and equip them with very simple pretender shells, basically animate dolls.
These then take the form of some convenient scapegoat, IE, terrorists, radical enviromentalists...a anti-movie riot/mob...ect.

between these two preparations, the Dam staff and other humans on-site can be disabled and moved out of the way by the Doll squad, allowing the Cons to assume robot mode within the Dam's power chambers and drain energon off.

-the scapegoat dolls are conveniently disposed of in whatever means seems plausible, leaving no humans the wiser. Autobots may notice; but that's the point this Rp; the combat between the two. the cons could even expect them to show up to save the humans and have a trap waiting.

Someone's gotta make the first move....
Indeed they do. 3nodding What's more, I'd say that, on the whole, this is an excellent suggestion. biggrin However, that having been said, there is something I first need to ruled out -- forget about drones. talk2hand

A PRETENDER SHELL, BY ITS VERY DESIGN, IS A PARASITIC CONSTRUCT, WHICH EFFECTIVELY LEECHES ITS LIFEFORCE FROM THE VERY SPARK OF ITS INTERNED CYBERNAUT -- WITHOUT BEING INFUSED WITH A CYBERTYRONIAN SKARKCORE IN THIS FASSION, THE SHELL COULD NOT SURVIVE. IT IS THIS ETHEREAL BOND THAT MAKES THE PRETENDERS PROCESS POSSIBLE. A DRONE UNIT, CONVERSELY, DOES NOT POSSESS A SPARK, BEING A MINDLESS MACHINE, & THUS CANNOT BE OUTFITTED WITH A PRETENDER SHELL. IGNORING THE FACT THAT RELYING ON A CONVENIENT COTERIE OF STAND-INS MAKES FOR FUNDAMENTALLY SLOPPY ROLEPLAYING, DRONES ARE ALTOGETHER TOO RUDIMENTARY IN CONSTRUCTION & APPLICATION TO OPERATE AN ANATOMICAL MARIONETTE: AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT CONSTITUTES A DRONE IN THIS FICTIONAL REALITY WOULD BE ROLLER, AS TAKEN FROM THE "G1" CONTINUITY -- A REMOTE-CONTROLLED EXTENSION OF OPTIMUS PRIME, THIS UNIT IS ESSENTIALLY JUST A SERVICE PLATFORM ON WHEELS (while the Roller of OUR continuity has an articulated claw, & is alternatively part of Teletran-01, it's still much the same, when all is said & done). SO, WHILE THE DAM PLAN HAS MY FULL SUPPORT, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO COME UP WITH A BETTER MEANS OF GOING ABOUT IT THAN CALLING IN A THROW-AWAY CREW OF DISGUISED DRONES...

It sounds good to me.

As for the creation of Energon cubes, there's just one small issue. We've already agreed that Energon needs to be refined before it is usable or stable enough for transport. This would mean that you would have to refine the energon on-site. In other words, it wouldn't be as simple as a quick raid. You'd have to entrench your position, especially if you were expecting Autobot retaliation.
Hrm, true, true...but then, maybe that's there current project: rapid refinement. Or at least a stabilizing agent that prevents the substance from exploding.
I have got it. Sandy is into photography, his main obsession is dams. He takes photos of dams at certain view points. Strategical points.

He also loves getting structure plans that are available to the public. Of course, a cybertronian can easily get more than that, especially of a dam.

What day of the week is it in the RP? It might make it easier if we had dates and days, etc.

All I need is WHAT dam we are targeting, so I know what the hell I am RPing. Because I would need to see the landscape of where I am going and a picture of the actual real dam.
Well, as far as location is concerned, why don't we look here: [LINK] whee Merely a suggestion, of course, & feel free to argue conversely, but it seems to be (thematically) appropriate to me, especially given past exploits to come out of the mythos.

G1 transformers actually MORPHED, because there was really no transforming, just everything changing into a shape.
Dude, what the hell are you even talking about?! Seriously, if the original cast didn't transform, as you say, then what exactly do you call this: [LINK]
Oh Sorry Chief, I meant it looked like all the components the transformers were made up of got in the way of each other... So it didn't really look like they were actually transforming.
I do sort of understand......a bit of cheating was done in the old series, and not everything folded quite seamlessly. It wasn't really till stuff like Transformers Cybertron that you could see transformations pulled off without things morphing together......and frankly the bots suffered for it, becoming little more than giant blocks.
Alright, I'll grant you that much -- representative distortion is as much a part of traditional animation as is movement. xd But the same is true of the more "realistic" mechanical conversions depicted in the live-action franchise, which cheat processes just as gratuitously (Bumblebee, for instance, never transforms the same way twice).

One detail I LOVED about the 2007 and 2009 movies is the cybertronian language, and how it is spoken fluently. Thus, does such a rule apply here? I mean, can the various cybertronians communicate in a high-pitched, sonic stream of electronic-audio mesh?
Well, seeing as how Cudboy referred to the indigenous binary dialect of Cybertron on numerous occassions throughout his tenure in the original roleplay, I think it's safe to say that something like that might just apply for us as well. lol So, if that's the case, then you'd presumably find that you'd be dealing with something like this: 01110111 01101000 01101001 01100011 01101000 00100000 01110111 01101111 01110101 01101100 01100100 00100000 01110011 01110000 01100101 01100001 01101011 00100000 01100110 01101111 01110010 00100000 01101001 01110100 01110011 01100101 01101100 01100110 00101100 00100000 01110011 01110101 01110010 01100101 01101100 01111001. mrgreen Paint a clear enough picture for you?

While trying to create my own personal vision of how Basixilus Looks, I had a idea. as Smeagol was previously lamenting his character's lack of offensive menace, I mentioned the idea, it he likes it a lot.
DEATH.
That is, a death-priest theme. Give him a reaper-style feel, with the staff as a now-lost design of a energo scythe, and shift his philosophy: that cybertronians who fight are in torment, and death frees their tortured sparks to go on to primus and peace. It is his job, as a messenger of primus, to grant the only peace possible from a impossible and impure existence. This could have been realized when he was left alone on the battlefields of cybertron.
It also strengthens slipstream's tollerance/sometimes-alliance with him; they would share common goals: remove those who cannot fight, for the sake of their sparks and cybertron's future.

This makes his alt-mode more fitting, and gives him added menace. It also makes the "old man" aspect not so...laughable. That is, the reaper is old and timeless, being more sinister with age, as to remind us that time is the staff to which the blade of death is mounted.mayhap the GM's would give their good graces for the needed revisions to the profile?
Yeah, Basilixus does need major revision.

So if there is agreement, I will change bits and pieces of his profile so it fits with Shotesu's idea!
Funnily enough, I was kinda under the impression that I'd cast similar remarks while issuing approval for this profile's publication -- correct me if I'm mistaken, but did I not speculate that the Decepticon Deathnell, an established character from the original TF: P (who also transforms into a hearse & weilds a scythe), could conceivably be seen as being a disciple of Basilixus & his arcane teachings? ninja Sharing such ideologies stands to reason, if you ask me, so it certainly fits. pirate But sure, why not -- if you'd like to add a section incorporating these concepts, feel free to forward a revised draft my way, OK?

Oh, & just to wrap things up, there's a new promotional item available for those who might be interested: [LINK]

Chief, I am not sure who, but someone on Proxy notified me that the the agents and YOU would go over the idea Shotesu posted and then would vote on approval...

But if a draft of an edited profile would help the final decision then I will do it.

I would make a District 9 RP... But it is hard to decide if it would be a prequel or a sequel...
100101000. 10101000011111-!!!
Yeah, binary makes sense for a race of machines, but what does that manifest as when spoken? While Morse code would suffice, it would take days to say anything at normal speed of beeps and pauses. You could then speed up the sound and boost the frequency so that alternating bursts and silences of digital sound could be crammed into microseconds or less...but then, the sound climbs into the sonic and ultrasonic ranges as the frequency increases.
Furthermore, having lived for untold aeons as a race, the Transformers woudl have no doubt developed concepts infinitely for complex than
"IF:Autobot THEN_Delete;
ELSE
Scan=="intruders" "
so while they may still use binary as base for their language, it's intensity would be inaudible to the human ear and would drive local animals nuts; as wells as flashing about in patterns and streams far too complex or fast for the human mind to grasp. At best, it would be electronic screeching like in the 2007 film, which is really kinda neat.
So....the Roosevelt Dam it is!

'cept, now I need a new plan for invasion. hmm.....wait. barring system/supertstructure damage or a uniquely unfortunate design; most Cybertronians can withstand submersion in water, right? Assuming the pressure is within tollerable levels as not to pin them or crush their armor...
From that regard, the 'cons could simply walk along the bottom of the reservoir in their Robot modes, and bring tools to form a simple airlock on the dam wall as they cut their way in; then they could trigger floodgates already built into the dam by means of hacking-if one bot was on support, then he/she could have previously faked some emergency to draw the workers into one section, and jam the dam's radio and phone lines.
Once in, the cons would double-check the security of their new prisoners and then proceed to the Turbines to begin energy theft. If careful with their ruse, they could hold the dam for a day or two before anyone came out to check, or responded to power fluxuations. having turned a already isolated site into prison, as long as nothing incredibly alarming gets loose, both the Authorities and Autobots would be none the wiser. In fact, if the 'Bots did move in for some reason, they could engage briefly with all the humans in the area sealed in behind huge flood walls. That woudl give us time for, say, a midnight battle atop the dam.... mrgreen

yay, we can progress.
about the drones though-I didn't mean full shells. I meant literally spraying robo-puppets with a high-tech version of laytex[sp?] skin; given that the Tf's evidently understand cellular matrix layouts and the crafting of such, making a short lived layer of skin cells to wrap about human-shaped machines should be possible. Link them to a central, tactical remote...like blacksight with a holographic display/interface, and you have faceless troops ready to play badguy.

in fashion of G1's "robot master" and IDW's Fascimilies[sp?], these last only a few hours before their fake flesh dies and they pull a "terminator"...revealing mechanical parts. Their extremely simple nature is further stressed by the fact that they lack faces, instead wearing night vision googles and other role-appropriate gear that just happens to hid their lack of features.
Furthermore, humans, in japan, in real life, have made humaniod robots, thought they are jerky in motion and speech. with cybertronian tech, it should be easy to make walking drones that can broadcast speech inputed from the remote (AKA, blacksight or whoever talking through them), thus seeming to be "talking".
This nameless terrorist is the "robot master" refference; while Donnie Finkleberg has been left at home, this mystery force is a excuse for decepticon activity: a terrorist cell claiming technological superiority to all humans, and then broadcasting some typically grandiose goal. Thanks to their temporary nature, they always vanish from where they strike, and a suicide bomber tactic can be used to disguise them self-destructing before they are uncovered to be machines.
This makes a further challenge: the cons must ensure that their clones are never exposed: no bodies, no evidence....and no one seeing the fact these "terrorists" have no faces.
what with all the constraints on them, I'd say they are far from game-breaking, they challenge both sides while providing cover for Decepticon activity.
Alternatively, the 'Cons could use real humans, but would have to do or promise something drastic to get them to obey and not betray....
Interesting suggestion...

Ah... that would be Visual BASIC code, bub, not binary. xp
The Hegemon
While I understand that machines on Earth operate via binary code, assuming that an alien species which developed very much independantly from human technology uses the same binary code for a language is a little silly to me. The cybertronian language is sort of their binary. After all, these ARE alien machines and not of human design. At least in the fictional sense.
It's a good thing I actually know how to translate binary, dude! lol But of course, I never actually said that Cybertronians specifically speak what we here on Earth regard as being the binary language -- they're an alien civilization! xd But for the sake of argument, they would indeed have their own language, & it would logically be machine-based. smile That said, however, what any of this has to do with our roleplay in a practical sense is really quite beyond me... sweatdrop

Cybertronians can withstand submersion in water, right? Assuming the pressure is within tollerable levels as not to pin them or crush their armor...
What's this assumption based upon, I wonder? neutral Don't forget, Cybertronians come from a metallic world completely devoid of any liquid substance -- prior to arriving on Earth, they'd never have experienced water. xp Mind you, I'm not necessarily suggesting that they couldn't withstand an ostensibly hydrated environment, although they do require Pretender shells as a result of long-term exposure to our atmosphere, & said shells can't survive underwater, so make of that what you will... wink

about the drones though-I didn't mean full shells.
OK, your rationale is solid enough, buddy, but I still don't like it -- doesn't it negate the whole purpose of devising a complex character construct for use in an RP arena if you're then just going to rely upon completely dispensible N.P.C.s all the time? confused That's not what roleplaying is supposed to be about. sad Remember, it's the characters who drive a successful story, so don't be too hasty to sidestep their central importance, OK?

Actually, all this talk about movie-inspired logistics (& no, District 9 hasn't been theatrically released over here yet...) has moreorless got me thinking about this: [LINK] biggrin Looks really good, & is kinda in tune with our own Pretenders concept, in a sense. whee The promotional website I've just referenced is good fun too, so chances are we're in for an equally polished product here. 3nodding Here's hoping, anyhow.
as far as I can tell, it goes binary---programing code---macro code (engines and game makers)----visual interface.
meaning one becomes the next; binary is direct, but on more understandable levels becomes the pseudo-code we can better grasp. True enough that when I type in VisualBasic, it's just a interface for arrange said ones and zeroes.
so translation of cybertronian "speech" would at some level, resemble pseudo-code. It's just my point that it would have long since evolved past that, to perhaps form of communication more adept than ours at conveying information.

anyway, as far as my water assumption goes: they have been on earth for at least 7 years, and likely understand what water is by now, as well as being experts on the basic physics of fluid mechanics and pressure.
Seeing as in almost every version of transformers they have submerged at some point (G1 did it fairly often, the movie line has it in RTOF's megatron revival scene. Tf animated had the autobot ship/Omega Supreme parked on the floor of lake michigan, so....) then it's safe to say that armored alien warriors would be able to survive at a mere 2-300 feet under for no more than a hour; considering they have survived salt water depths on average in most previous continuities.
Prolonged exposure would be a problem, but for short dives, hulking mechs should survive in freshwater, assuming no open wounds.
Again, that's a fair enough assumption, yes. 3nodding While I honestly couldn't care less about what canonical franchises have previously done with regard to submariner exploits (seeing as how they're almost universally fraught with nonsensical adaption of reality constraints, to say the very least), it nevertheless stands to reason that our robot cast, having been active since 1984, would have adapted somewhat to the basic environmental rigors imposed by this planet. whee Even so, while it's perfectly feasible, therefore, that the Decepticons could effectively swim up to the dam, the question remains -- where have they initially come from? neutral Are you perhaps suggesting that assorted aircraft fly conspicuously over the site, before swooping down from the skies above to plummet spectacularly into the watery depths below? surprised Not exactly very covert, is it...? lol Wouldn't a more straightforward approach be to simply have them march into the facility disguised in their Pretender shells, blending in anonymously with the local inhabitants to be encountered here? wink Infiltration, & all that... ninja

Anywho, we've entered the final 24 hour phase of the scheduled Camp Chaos event, so I figured it might be a good idea to provide a checklist (of sorts) for those of you who have yet to reach Level 8 in your chosen outfit. smile So then, to this end, please give momentary pause to account for the following roster of assorted boss characters, displayed in order of appearance, whom you'll be required to defeat in your prank-ridden quest to attain the prestigious rank of Supergenius, Thighmaster, Gatsbyesque Dandy, or Rebel:

Actually I had a great idea for us being able to use humans. In an episode of Transformers megatron used a scientist to create a mind control Devise. I could have GreyWing working on one to infiltrate the damn. Which would be the Project he left his fight Hence the Biological protrion of his experiment megatron wanted him working on.

Also, the Decepticon base was under water in the series. The movie just basically made an excuse for them to be "thrown in water" WHICH didn't matter anyway, as they went and freaking grabbed megatrons body out of the same water that was supposed to crush them.
He's right. And the last time I tried to bring logic into defining something, well we all remember how that went. You should also remember Chief, that not all of our Characters hail from Cybertron. Hisa's character and mine are both from colonies. Colonies which have atmosphere and indigenous plant life. I think it's perfectly reasonable to assume that the TFs can survive for extended periods of time while submerged. Whether or not they want to is up to the person controlling them.

As for the use of human-esque drones during the Decepticon assault of Roosevelt dam, it's not so much to keep the Autobots occupied but to keep human law enforcement occupied while the Decepticons carry out their enegeron-oriented activities. It's a plot device that will allow the characters in our character driven story, to engage with other characters, while ignoring things like the fact that the United States government would crack down on the terrorist threat as soon as it showed its ugly head.

And personally, I would like to know exactly what year we're working in, because the last time I checked, the general consensus was 2002. If we're changing that, I'm willing to go back and alter my posts to accomodate.

And Chief, I am so sorry you haven't had a chance to see District 9 yet. It is simply amazing for reasons that I don't fully comprehend.
